‘Captain America: New World Order’ offers first glimpse at the MCU’s newest superhero set to take flight

It's not much, but it's something.

Things change, evolve, and that’s life. Our favorite superhero actors have lives and other jobs and sometimes it’s just time to move on. Case in point: Chris Evans is out as Falcon. Now we’re getting an (albeit blurry) first look.

There’s a photo floating (soaring?) around the internet today purportedly of a picture from the set of the new movie. We get a glimpse of the costume from the back but it’s enough to at least get the flavor of it. Take a look:

Yeah it’s not much, but it’s something. A lot of people are noticing that the costume is actually a “comic accurate” depiction, and a nod to the source material goes a long way for Marvel fans.

The movie costume, of course, is closer to reality than the padded armor look from the comics. When Anthony Mackie played the character, his costume kind of felt like Cap Jr., whereas it’s refreshing to see Marvel pull something out of the pages of a comic book. Even the color scheme is pretty close.

These are the kind of details that can bring the MCU back from its tailspin following the disappointing Ant-Man fiasco, and while Guardians Vol. 3 was great, it served as a reminder of what Marvel is losing now that director James Gunn is moving on to the DCU.

Marvel needs Cap 4 to be successful. The character is a benchmark to the MCU and he needs to be handled with care. The new costume for Falcon seems to be taking the stakes very seriously.

Captain America 4 is scheduled for a May 2024 release.
