President Trump is continuing his rhetoric of promising that stamping on immigration will be the silver bullet the American economy is in need of.
The Republicans are trying to push a bill at the House that extends the 2017 tax cuts. While they’re going to reduce the taxes for all Americans and restrict access to Medicaid for undocumented immigrants, with an aim to reduce between $560M to $880M in the next 10 years, there has been some skepticism in some corners of Congress. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the move will increase the deficit by $6 trillion, due to the $4 trillion of tax that will be cut — and some of Congress have been decrying the bill as fiscal irresponsibility.
Considering how the tariff plan was also executed to Americans via a Trojan horse, where Americans were convinced that China would pay for them, it’s apparent that “deficit” might also sound like jargon and need explanation. A deficit is basically spending more than you have. Buying $15 candy with only $10 on you. The US government will always need to spend on roads, hospitals, and schools. What this bill means is that the government will have less to spend on them. But the bills will remain the same. That difference is what will grow, and it will need to be handled with debt.
President Trump had very lofty goals on how he would reduce expenditure of this growing deficit when he came in. Elon Musk was going to run point man with DOGE, where the goal was apparently to reduce the expenditure of the government by $2 trillion, but they quickly itted they were incapable of doing that. Trump took to Twitter without any of these issues fully explored and seemingly promised that a cut of Medicaid on immigrants is sufficient.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson vehemently disagreed with this take. He took to Fox Business to declare that he refuses to vote for something that will increase the deficit. In a Republican party that has certainly been measured with how it chooses to disagree with Trump and his MAGA base, Rep. Johnson bluntly said, “It’s not beautiful, I’m sorry.”

As to how these plans are affecting the fiscal health of the United States. The second Trump istration had come in promising to deal with the debt, but what it looks like right now is they’re making decisions that will just increase the debt. As such, Moody has lowered the credit rating of the United States for the first time since 1917.
The reasons as to why President Trump is making this move are honestly hard to understand. However, it’s rather apparent that he surrounds himself with the richest men on the planet, and it’s in his best interest to care about their needs first. Even if their need is flying to Mars.
So hospitals, schools, roads will have to take a backseat. For the Trump istration, what is a priority is rich people who feel like they pay too much taxes.
