A new biography, Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, provided a different take on the situation. As found by People, A royal staff member shared a much more complicated story, explaining that both women were under a lot of emotional strain in the days before the wedding.

According to the book, the staffer described a tense conversation about the bridesmaid dresses, where both Meghan and Kate later regretted things they had said in the heat of the moment. The emotions ran so high that both women cried a great deal, showing that the disagreement was much more intense and mutual than earlier reports had suggested.
Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, added more details. He wrote about a text exchange with Meghan four days before the wedding, in which Kate raised concerns that Charlotte’s dress was too big. Meghan tried to fix the issue by suggesting a visit to the tailor, who was already at Kensington Palace, but Kate reportedly asked for all the bridesmaid dresses to be remade. According to Harry, this back-and-forth left Meghan extremely upset and in tears. Kate later apologized by sending flowers and a note expressing regret.
Apparently, the high-end tailor who worked on the bridesmaids’ dresses gave an interview. He confirmed that last-minute changes were needed for all six dresses and acknowledged how stressful such adjustments can be right before a major event. While he didn’t see any arguments firsthand, he understood why ill-fitting dresses would cause distress on such an important day.
His team worked hard in the final days before the wedding, finishing the alterations just hours before the ceremony. It seems Kate and Meghan had little in common from the start, and they faced the challenges of ing the royal family in very different ways. Meghan, described as someone who likes to hug, was reportedly taken aback by how formal Kate and Prince William were.
