‘Nothing has been proven about this dude’: Anthony Mackie breaks ranks to comment on Jonathan Majors controversy

Marvel might be staying silent, but Captain America isn't.

So far, Marvel’s approach to the controversy engulfing Jonathan Majors is to simply pretend the actor the studio hired to serve as the big bad of the entire Multiverse Saga doesn’t exist.

He was omitted from the marketing to drum up the buzz for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arriving on digital and on-demand, while even the movie’s Disney Plus synopsis doesn’t mention either his name or that of Kang the Conqueror, even though he’s the primary antagonist of the entire film that also features literally thousands of times in the post-credits scenes.

Putting its fingers in its ears and waiting for it to blow over is the company line, but Anthony Mackie isn’t having it. In an interview with Inverse, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America became the first high-profile figure associated with the superhero sandbox to publicly comment on the matter, and he didn’t hold back.

“That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

He does have a point, when Majors has been ditched from several advertising campaigns and film projects since the allegations first went public, when they signed the actor to a lengthy and lucrative contract that would see him as as the next Avengers-level threat.
