Atlus Picking Up Dragon’s Crown, Assists With Development

The Vanillaware title Dragon's Crown, previously rumored to be cancelled, is back on track to release day with the backing and development of Atlus. With the rumors of the game's demise running rampant around the internet after a lack of progress updates from both Vanilla Ware and Ignition Entertainment, it's refreshing to see a bit of good news. Atlus previously worked with the team to localize their two PlayStation 2 era titles, Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere, so it's good to see the project backed by familiar faces.

The Vanillaware title Dragon’s Crown, previously rumored to be cancelled, is back on track to release day with the backing and development of Atlus.

With the rumors of the game’s demise running rampant around the internet after a lack of progress updates from both Vanilla Ware and Ignition Entertainment, it’s refreshing to see a bit of good news. Atlus previously worked with the team to localize their two PlayStation 2 era titles, Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere, so it’s good to see the project backed by familiar faces.

Atlus‘ PR spokesperson Aram Jabbari issued a press release earlier on the PlayStation Blog announcing the company’s intent. However, with all of the manpower and effort that Atlus is pouring into the project, “It’s still way too early in development to be talking about specifics, but we can say that the game simply cannot retail for $29.99.”

Dragon’s Crown is currently on track for a 2013 release.

UTV Ignition Games Hands Over Dragon’s Crown

Marina Del Rey, CA–April 19, 2012–UTV Ignition Games today announced that Dragon’s Crown will be published by Atlus. Developed by Vanillaware, the 2D action RPG will be available in multiple formats including PlayStation®Vita.

UTV Ignition has now exited from all internal development of Dragon’s Crown, with Atlus acquiring the publishing rights. “While we are saddened to no longer be associated with the Dragon’s Crown project, we are very confident that the title is in excellent hands with Atlus,” stated Lokesh Dhar, senior vice president of UTV Ignition Entertainment. “Since the initial announcement, information on timing and features in the game have changed and other details regarding design and functionality are yet to be determined. We are confident that Atlus and Vanillaware will deliver the finest game possible.”

In Dragon’s Crown players take the role of one of six adventurers who must roam labyrinths in search of treasure and the legendary “Dragon’s Crown.” With 2D multiplayer action, up to four players can connect around the world to play through the game together.
