Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Spike After Return to PlayStation Store

Cyberpunk 2077's extended absence from PlayStation appears to have had little to no impact on fan appetite to explore Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077‘s extended absence from PlayStation appears to have had little to no impact on appetites to explore Night City. For those not aware, Sony, having previously removed the title from sale on the console’s digital storefront due to it being deemed unsatisfactory in quality, restored CD Projekt RED’s beleaguered sci-fi adventure last month.

Rather than return with little fanfare or excitement – which wouldn’t have been surprising, considering its well-documented issues and hype having long since ed – behind it, though, the adaptation of Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG has soared straight to the top of PS4’s top charts.

As revealed in its June summary blog post, Cyberpunk was the most ed game throughout the month just gone, beating out the likes of EA’s FIFA 21 and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V in Europe and the US/Canada respectively to claim pole position.

A promising turn of events for CDPR, then, which will no doubt have been hoping to score some good PR in its latest release following an abysmal launch, though the positivity hopefully won’t be screeching to a halt there, either. In addition to delivering several large patches over the last six months, the studio is still on course to provide next-gen versions of Cyberpunk before the end of 2021.

On what date the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are expected to drop specifically has yet to be announced, though last we heard, existing iterations of the title are now considered to be in a satisfactory state, potentially freeing up staff and resources to get the upgrades out the door ASAP.

As is standard practice, Cyberpunk 2077 will be a free on next-gen for all existing owners.
