Nordic Has Acquired THQ’s De Blob IP

de Blob, formerly of THQ, has found a new home thanks to Sweden’s Nordic Games, which bought the intellectual property through a recent asset sale. Through this acquisition, the mid-level publisher has now acquired its fourth franchise from the burning wreckage that was once THQ, with the others being Darksiders, Red Faction and MX vs. ATV.

Originally released in 2006 as a PC-exclusive school project from students at the Utrecht School of the Arts, de Blob later went on to appear on Nintendo’s Wii console. Following its success there, the colour-based platformer — which tasks players with painting environments in order to bring them back to life — then sprouted a sequel that made its way to PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Now, with this acquisition, it’s sounding like a third game may soon be in the works.

Here’s what Nordic had to say about its latest purchase:

“de Blob is just a great and truly unique franchise”, comments Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games.

“We are excited about what the future holds for this polychromatic extravaganza as the newest addition to our portfolio. We will evaluate opportunities with the existing games, as well as potential sequels.”

Stay tuned for more information pertaining to de Blob as it develops. While you’re waiting, though, make sure to check out the series’ first two instalments if you’ve yet to do so.
