The box office forecasts for Avengers: Endgame just keep getting higher, with ComicBook.com now relaying word that the MCU’s latest feature stands a good chance of being the first ever film to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide on its opening weekend.

According to the outlet’s sources, the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is “all but guaranteed” to $950 million in its global opening, and is likely to get as high as ten figures. No doubt a huge proportion of this total will come from China, where the film broke the opening day record on Wednesday with a $107.5 million haul. At the time of writing, the movie’s overseas total sits at $305 million.

On the domestic front, Endgame managed to take in a record-breaking $60 million from Thursday night previews, while Friday brought in $98 million, bringing its current total up to $158 million. As it stands, it’s now expected to far exceed the current opening record of $257.5 million held by Infinity War once Sunday rolls around. In fact, some analysts believe it could even hit $350 million on home turf when all is said and done.

Anthony and Joe Russo’s last film would go on to gross $640.5 million domestically, amounting to a box office multiplier of around 2.4x. Should Endgame hit $300 million this weekend with the same amount of legs in the coming weeks, then we’re looking at a domestic total of about $720 million.

This number would still fall over $200 million short of the current all-time record of $936.7 million held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which had a multiplier of around 3.8x. However, if (and granted, this is a very big if) Endgame finishes its run at the same ratio, then it could end up with a domestic total of $1.14 billion.

All in all, the figures bode very well for Avengers: Endgame, but we’ll find out if the film can match these projections as the weekend progresses.
