While many are predicting that next week’s Avengers: Endgame will serve as Thor’s final outing in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth has insisted that he’s happy to keep his run going for as long as Marvel allows.

During an appearance on This Morning, the Australian actor suggested that while the Avengers: Infinity War will bring some form of closure to the God of Thunder’s current arc, that doesn’t mean his story has to end here.

“I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me,” Hemsworth said. “I’ve loved it so much. But the combination of this many characters in this Phase Three, as Marvel calls it, you’ll never have this interaction with this many people again. Who knows what the future holds and whether they do prequels and sequels or whatever, I’d be open to anything. But right now, this is where we finish up.”

Until Endgame reaches cinemas, that’s probably as definitive an answer as you’ll get from Hemsworth about his character’s future. For what it’s worth, however, a fourth Thor movie. And though the Valkyrie actress itted that she doesn’t know how real her intel is, she’s apparently been told that Marvel is hoping to bring back Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to helm the project.

Speaking of which, while Thor has been in the MCU since Phase 1, many would argue that it wasn’t until Waititi’s 2017 film that he really started living up to his potential. With that in mind, you could perhaps make the case that it’s still a little early to retire the character, even though his similarly seasoned peers Iron Man and Captain America both seem on the verge of exiting.

In any case, you can imagine that Hemsworth has a better idea of Thor’s future than he’s currently letting on, but we’ll likely find out if he’ll still be around for Phase 4 when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
