Billie Eilish finally shares her ‘Barbie’ song contribution

ing Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and more musical prodigies on the 'Barbie' album, Billie Eilish is in line to release a 'Barbie' song.

One of the two mystery spots on the 17-song track list for the Barbie movie has been filled by the Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish. The 21-year-old star took to Instagram on Thursday to announce a new song for the much-anticipated Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer Barbie movie.

The announcement proved fans’ speculations true about her involvement in the movie, which was fueled by the comments of Barbie the Album‘s executive producer Mark Ronson just hours earlier. He hinted at one of the two unannounced songs being Billie Eilish’s saying:

“One of the artists is obviously one of the f-cking greatest living artists around but also had a very personal, idiosyncratic tie to Barbie as well,”

Following this, Billie Eilish announced her new song titled “What Was I Made For,” set to be released next Thursday, July 13. The “Bad Guy” singer shared the announcement on Instagram and captioned the post,

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! 🧸🎀🩰💗“What Was I Made For?” COMING OUT JULY 13TH AT 7AM PT. !!!!!!!! 🙈🥰 WE MADE THIS SONG FOR BARBIE AND IT MEANS THE ABSOLUTE WORRRRLLLD TO ME. THIS MOVIE IS GONNA CHANGE UR LIVES AND HOPEFULLY THE SONG WILL TOO. GET READY TO SOB💐👀🌸🥹🫧💞”

She also tagged her brother Finneas O’Connell on the post, implying that “What Was I Made For?” is a collaboration between the two as usual. Her fans instantly took to the comments section and expressed their over-the-top joy at the news.

Billie Eilish has won seven Grammy Awards as of July 2023 and holds a record for being the youngest artist in Grammy history to win all four general field categories — Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year — in the same year. She is also the first person born in the 21st century to win an Academy Award.

Last month, Barbie the Album was announced to have 17 tracks, including originals from popular artists like Dua Lipa, Lizzo, The Kid Laroi, Ava Max, Khalid, and more. Actor Ryan Gosling is also among the star-studded performers’ list and has sung an original song to add a more personal touch to his iconic character, Ken.

The album will be released on July 21, on the premiere of the Barbie movie. So far, 4 songs from the track list have been released, including Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” and Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s “Barbie World.” The 16 songs of the album currently announced include:

  1. “Pink” by Lizzo
  2. “Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa
  3. “Barbie World” (with Aqua) by Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice
  4. “Speed Drive” by Charli XCX
