Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Director Promises A More Diverse Soundtrack This Time

The soundtrack for the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was absolutely superb and became as synonymous with the film as its story or its incredibly popular bunch of ragtag characters. With infectious, feel-good tunes such as Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" and Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love," the compilation actually went on to become the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the Billboard 200 chart.

So, we can expect more of the same for “Awesome Mix Vol. 2,” right? Well, maybe not. In a recent interview, director James Gunn promised that the song choices will still be every bit as good, but also significantly different:

The second soundtrack is great. I think it’s a more diverse soundtrack. I think the first soundtrack [had] a bunch of songs that maybe you heard but didn’t know the name of the song – you didn’t know the name of the singer. In this one, we have some really incredibly famous songs and then some songs that people have never heard. So, it’s a much more diverse soundtrack.”

It must have been tempting to try to replicate the success of the first soundtrack by choosing a batch of similar songs, so it’s definitely irable that Gunn wants to shake things up a bit for the sequel. The recently released trailer featured Sweet’s “Fox on the Run,” so we can probably expect to hear that in the movie. Gunn has also revealed a couple of the other tunes a while back, namely Jay and the Americans’ “Come A Little Bit Closer” and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac – two very solid choices.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theatres on May 5th, 2017, and we can’t wait to see what else the director has picked out for the soundtrack.
