James Gunn gives props to the unsung heroes of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

These little humanimals made 'Vol. 3' much more fun.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is famed for the eponymous team’s interplanetary adventures that have taken them across the numerous habitats; from Xandar and Knowhere to Sovereign and Ego, the Guardians have left their imprint across the stars.

During these missions, they encountered plenty of alien species. Blending features and facial traits of several animals and insects, these aliens have been friends and foes to the Guardians, but in practicality, it takes great work to bring these creatures to life.

Gunn’s space venture hires a pool of talent comprising practical effects experts, makeup and prosthetics teams, and other designers and stylists to bring these characters to life, which was truer than ever in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Taking to Twitter, Gunn paid tribute to the women who stood in as numerous Humanimals across the shoot, where he can be heard expressing his gratitude and appreciation for them playing multiple parts in Vol. 3.

The extras played creatures resembling kangaroos, vampire bats, turtles, and cockroaches, and they must have sat through a lot of makeup and costume styling in the process. Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has multiple leads wearing makeup and prosthetics, such as Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Yondu, Ayesha, and lately, Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary, but the background players deserve some love, too.
