Matthew Vaughn Eyes Geriatric Superhero Film The Golden Age

Yes, you’d think a man who has just done two superhero films back to back, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, would like to leave the genre for a while to stretch his legs. Well, it doesn’t seem like he will. Apparently Matthew Vaughn, is again looking towards this well worn genre but is at least trying to do something different. This time a film called The Golden Age is on the horizon, set in a retirement home it will focus on retired superheroes who “help out their grandchildren when their parents mess up the world”.

Sounds like a brilliant comic premise like a Space Cowboys/Red kind of idea, and is based on a comic book yet to be released written by British comedian and TV personality Jonathan Ross. For those who don’t know, Jonathan Ross is the husband of frequent Vaughn collaborator screenwriter Jane Goldman, who presumably will be writing the script though no confirmation as of yet.

Vaughn is also looking for a serious bunch of actors in his main roles: none other than Clint Eastwood, Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson. That is the very best definition of a wishlist. As we know Eastwood and Beatty are retired from acting or so they say, and who knows what Nicholson would say. But if that actually came together it would be pretty exciting, anything Vaughn does is of interest to me anyway, loved Kick-Ass and I’m more convinced by the trailer than most people.
