Zack Snyder Talks Seriously About Man Of Steel

Apparently nothing is allowed to be fun and light-hearted anymore, because that's not the way the world is, man. Don't you see? Now things have got to be all gritty and dark, because otherwise they're not cool, and you don't want to be uncool, do you? So it's not surprise that Man Of Steel's director Zack Snyder has taken the "serious" approach for his Superman flick. And because he's on Christopher Nolan's leash he kind of has no choice. Probably.

Apparently nothing is allowed to be fun and light-hearted anymore, because that’s not the way the world is, man. Don’t you see? Now things have got to be all gritty and dark, because otherwise they’re not cool, and you don’t want to be uncool, do you? So it’s no surprise that Christopher Nolan‘s leash he kind of has no choice. Probably.

Here’s what Synder had to say recently about his approach to the movie:

“It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.”

Personally, I’ve always considered Superman the most boring of all superheroes. He’s a little stiff for my taste, and I’m really not into the whole invincibility thing. I like watching people get hurt. Punished. Put through the blender. Gosh, I really didn’t apprehend this article as the place I’d finally reveal my masochistic tendencies.

Anyway… are you looking forward to Zack Synder’s take on Superman? How will Man Of Steel fare against Nolan’s trilogy of Batman movies?
