Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s performance at the MTV Music Video Awards was just the start of what the duo had in store for us, as their sporty workout routine was emulated in the music video for “Side To Side,” which premiered today on Guess.
The music video shows off what is quite possibly the hottest SoulCycle class that ever existed, coupled with sauna and shower scenes to boot. “Side To Side” was directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who has spent the past couple of years helming videos for some of the biggest artists around. Just this year, she’s been responsible for crafting clips for Meghan Trainor and David Guetta.
It’s surprisingly not the only music video that premiered last night involving a fitness theme, either, as Kanye West also debuted his video for “Fade” featuring actress Teyana Taylor. Both clips had the sex appeal in high gear, and it’s hard to pick out which one made our muscles hurt just from watching.
Despite being nominated in multiple categories, Grande failed to nab a victory in any of the awards she was up for, losing out to Beyonce’s “Hold Up” for Best Female Video and Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” for Best Collaboration. The bright side is that “Side To Side” could be eligible for next year’s VMAs, so the chance of potentially earning her second VMA with it (or maybe another video in the future) is alive and well.
