Disney diehards crushed by the Super Bowl trailer it looks like they won’t be getting

Contrary to rumors, a Super Bowl debut of a new trailer for this remake won't be a part of our world.

Disney fans might not get the Super Bowl trailer for the latest The Little Mermaid adaptation they’ve been dreaming of. According to messages between Halle Bailey and a fan on Instagram, the hopes for a new trailer during the big game tonight have been dashed. When asked about a new trailer premiering during the Super Bowl, Bailey answers that although there won’t be a new trailer tonight, there will be one coming out down the line.

The film has already released one teaser trailer, giving fans a look at Bailey as Ariel and some of the underwater scenery echoing the opening of the first film. It’s been a highly anticipated release, continuing the tradition of Disney’s live-action reboots of their popular animated movies. This trend has been happening consistently since Disney’s live-action reboot of Alice in Wonderland in 2010.

The re-releases have had lukewarm results at the box office and mixed reception from critics and fans alike. Their last live-action effort, Pinocchio, which debuted on Disney+ last September, was generally panned. However, if the hype behind The Little Mermaid is to be believed, this latest venture might be just what the studio needs to turn things around for their live-action reboots. The Little Mermaid is due out in May of this year, so it makes sense that fans would want a full trailer release a few months ahead of time. While it might be a while until the next The Little Mermaid trailer is a part of our world, we’ll all be waiting
