Larry David just ended Bill Maher with brutal Hitler Trump parody, no autopsy required

Stop Larry stop! He's already dead!

Centrists are an unfortunate and deluded people, forever tangled up in knots about “decorum” and wailing about “the rules” even as evil giggles and walks all over them. But even these poor souls don’t deserve a figurehead as pathetic as Bill Maher.

Earlier this month Maher engaged in a brutal act of self-humiliation on his show Real Time with Bill Maher. In a segment entitled “Mr. Maher Goes to Washington”, the host recounted how he’d been invited to the White House to meet Donald Trump, during which he was love-bombed so thoroughly and efficiently he had to clarify that he hadn’t actually turned MAGA.

Maher gushed about how “gracious” Trump was, saying how thoughtful he thought he was and went to say he praised Trump to his face for his attacks on DEI “going too far”, his discrimination against the trans community, and his for the Gaza genocide. Let’s just say the phrase “scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds” has never been more accurate.

Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David was repulsed by Maher’s fawning and lack of principles and promptly wrote an article for The New York Times entitled “My Dinner with Adolf“.

This doesn’t ever mention Maher or Trump by name, but instead imagines a 1930s German radio host who’d been a “vocal critic” of Hitler, but “concluded that hate gets us nowhere” and that “we need to talk to the other side”. This not-Maher is then invited to dinner with Hitler, who’s impressed that the Führer laughs at his jokes, charms him with humor, and eventually concludes: “We’re not that different, after all. I thought that if only the world could see this side of him, people might have a completely different opinion.”

Not-Maher blithely strolls out of his dinner with Hitler saying: “I must say, mein Führer, I’m so thankful I came. Although we disagree on many issues, it doesn’t mean that we have to hate each other.” And with that, I gave him a Nazi salute and walked out into the night.”

This is the kind of brutal skewering that can only come from someone nursing a powerful disgust and hatred of both Maher and Trump. It’s still faintly astonishing that Maher, who absurdly seems to consider himself some kind of sensible intellectual, could be so easily and quickly buttered up by the Trump White House. But, as Larry David just reminded us, the time for “understanding” and “dialogue” kind of ends at the point when your opponent is scooping innocent people off the streets and tossing them into a death camp.
