‘That calling is there’: Chinless Donald Jr. dreams of ‘presidency’ while defending his daddy’s economically illiterate trade policies

Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, Trump Jr. stated, “Maybe one day… that calling is there,” when asked about his potential political ambitions. This marks one of the clearest indications yet of his possible interest in following his father’s political footsteps to the White House.

As per Politico, during his appearance at the forum, Trump Jr. also took the opportunity to praise his father’s impact on American politics, asserting that “my father has truly changed the Republican Party.” This comment highlights the significant influence the Trump family continues to wield within Republican circles, with the younger Trump positioned as a potential heir to his father’s political movement.

Currently serving as executive vice president of the Trump Organization, Donald Trump Jr. has become increasingly involved in political matters. He helps shape his father’s second istration by ensuring that loyalists and ideological ers are appointed to positions within the executive branch. Additionally, Trump Jr. has taken on the role of a key defender of his father’s policies and messaging on social media platforms.

Trade policy defense amid economic concerns

A significant portion of Trump Jr.’s remarks at the Doha forum focused on defending the istration’s approach to trade policy. He addressed concerns about the potential economic impact of these policies by stating that “changes take time” and suggesting that public fears were largely a result of media “hysteria” rather than substantive issues with the policies themselves.

The comments come as the istration faces scrutiny over its trade strategies, with some economists and business leaders expressing concerns about their long-term effects on the U.S. economy. Despite these concerns, Trump Jr. maintained that the istration’s trade policies pose no threat to the strength of the American economy.

Earlier this year in March, Trump Jr. denied reports that he was considering a presidential run in 2028. At that time, he emphasized his role in advocating for his father to select JD Vance as vice president, describing Vance as “an instant power player” within the Republican Party. This earlier statement stands in slight contrast to his more recent comments at the Qatar Economic Forum, which seem to leave the door open to a future candidacy. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump himself has previously hinted at the possibility of running again in 2028, despite constitutional term limits that would prevent him from serving a third term as president.
