James Gunn is about to unleash Gods and Monsters on theaters and Max.]]>
<![CDATA[

For the past decade, Warner Bros. Discovery failed to create a cinematic universe that lived up to DC’s beloved comic book characters. That will hopefully change with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU. 3k3s3u

Gunn and Safran were given complete control over DC Studios in 2022 and tasked with creating a decade-long storyline spanning movies, TV shows, and video games. So far, Gunn and Safran have been keeping the new DCU under an absolute veil of secrecy, and no one can tell what their ambitious storyline will look like. However, we already have an extensive list of movies and TV shows that are currently being developed.

Gunn and Safran revealed that their decade-long storyline will be split into two chapters. The first chapter, aptly named “Gods and Monsters,” comprises multiple theatrical releases and TV shows. While not everything has a hard release date yet, there’s a lot to be excited for as a DC fan.

Creature Commandos 1j60k

Creature Commandos
Image via DC Studios
 • Release date: December 5, 2024 (Max)
 • Showrunner: James Gunn

Creature Commandos is based on an obscure DC superteam made entirely of classic monsters. Gunn has already proven that he’s the master of using relatively unknown characters to create deeply emotional stories, a feat he managed with both the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and The Suicide Squad. So, since he wrote all seven episodes of the show, it’s only fair to assume that he’ll manage to make us also fall in love with the Creature Commandos.

Although their series will be animated, Gunn and Safran have already decided that whoever voices a DCU character will play the same role in any live-action project reusing the same heroes and villains. Considering that Creature Commandos has a star-studded voice cast, the show will give fans an appetizer of exciting things to come.

Notable voice talent includes Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot/Weasel, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, and David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein. Additionally, Steve Agee will appear as John Economos, and Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller. Since these characters were part of The Suicide Squad, Gunn’s first DC movie will probably be incorporated into the new DCU.

Superman 273cu

David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Krypto the Superdog in Superman

 • Release date: July 11, 2025
 • Writer/Director: James Gunn

If Creature Commandos is the new DCU appetizer, Superman is the main dish. Previously known as Superman: Legacy, the next cinematic adaptation of the Man of Steel will set the tone for the whole DCU and potentially show Warner Bros. Discovery that Gunn and Safran can pull off a massive box office haul. Or the movie will flop, and the new DCU might be buried right as it starts. The stakes have rarely been higher for a single cinematic project, so Gunn himself took the task of penning the script and directing the movie.

Instead of a new origin story, Superman takes place years after the Son of Krypton revealed his existence to the world. That explains why the movie will star multiple heroes and villains, including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

As for the titular character, David Corenswet was chosen as the DCU’s Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult will portray the villainous Lex Luthor.

Peacemaker (Season 2) 2h6z5r

James Gunn shuts down rumors regarding Peacemaker's DCU return
Photo via HBO Max
 • Release date: 2025
 • Showrunner: James Gunn

While the first season of Peacemaker was aired before the DCU reboot, Gunn has already written the script for the eight episodes of Season 2. That means Peacemaker will be absorbed into the new DCU, a smart movie from DC Studios. Peacemaker is a direct spinoff of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, starring John Cena as the titular vigilante. The first season balanced comedy and character growth perfectly, so it would be a shame if the story went to the trashcan after the DCU reboot.

Since Steve Agee’s John Economos and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller are coming to Creature Commandos after appearing in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, we expect Season 2 of Peacemaker to be more entangled with the general DCU. The season is already in production, with Season 2 scheduled to premiere after Superman.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow 4g6xx

Supergirl in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'

 • Release date: June 26, 2026
 • Writer: Ana Nogueira
 • Director: Craig Gillespie

Inspired by the comic book miniseries of the same name by King and Bilquis Evely, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will follow the tragic story of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. While Superman was sent to Earth to be raised by a loving family, Kara grew up in a fragment of Krypton, watching everyone she loved die while she floated through space. As such, the will explain the different personalities of the two Kryptonians.

Gunn and Safran described Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as a “sci-fi epic,” which means the movie will most likely take place in space and explore Kara’s journey. Gunn has publicly praised the script, penned by Ana Nogueira, and went as far as to give her a second DCU project to write, Teen Titans. Plus, the fact that Supergirl was put ahead in the production pile means that DC Studios is quite confident in its success.

Lanterns 3m322z

Green Lantern Hal Jordan DC Comics
Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA
 • Showrunner: Chris Mundy

According to Gunn and Safran, Lanterns will work as a detective story in which the Green Lanterns investigate a cosmic mystery on Earth. Instead of focusing on a specific iteration of the hero, the TV show will feature Hal Jordan and John Stweart. Hal Jordan is the original comic book Green Lantern, while John Stweart became famous thanks to the fan-favorite animated Justice League animated series. Since Nathan Fillion will appear as Guy Gardner in Superman, he will likely reprise this Green Lantern in the series, too.

Gunn and Safran have been playing coy about the new DCU. Still, they revealed that Lanterns is one of the main projects they are developing, and other mysteries at the show’s core will help fans understand the overextending DCU storyline. It’s good, then, that the show is already going into production in January 2025, which means we can expect a late-2025/early-2026 release date.
Lanterns stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.

The Authority 4h1070

The Authority
Image via Wildstorm/DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA

In 1992, comic book legend Jim Lee created the WildStorm universe to write superhero stories outside the constraints of Marvel/DC. DC eventually bought the WildStorm universe, using the Multiverse as an excuse to incorporate some characters into their main line of comic books. That’s precisely what happened with The Authority, a superteam getting their own movie in the new DCU.

The of the Authority believe that the ends justify the means when pursuing world peace, which leads them to take villainous actions against crime, such as killing certain social groups or depositing elected leaders. So, while the Authority thinks of itself as a team of heroes, they are often portrayed as antagonists to the Justice League. The Engineer is one of the core of the Authority, and she will appear in the Superman movie, played by María Gabriela de Faría. That means even before The Authority hits theaters, Gunn will already use its characters in other stories.

Waller 95f1s

Viola Davis as Amanda Waller in 'Suicide Squad'
Image via Warmer Bros. Pictures
 • Release date: TBA
 • Showrunner: Christal Henry & Jeremy Carver

Waller will give Viola Davis her own TV show as the ruthless Amanda Waller after many years of playing the character in multiple DC projects. Initially, Gunn had planned for Waller to take place after the events of Peacemaker Season 1 when Amanda Waller’s dark deeds were exposed to the whole world. However, the DCU-specific needs have changed these plans.

Waller will be back for Creature Commandos, and Peacemaker will get its second season before Waller appears in her titular show. That’s probably why the series is still in the early stages of development, as Gunn needs to rework the story so it makes sense in the DCU continuity.

The Brave and The Bold 4n2e6g

Damian_Wayne_Robin_DC
Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA
 • Director: Andy Muschietti

The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DCU, accompanied by the Damian Wayne iteration of Robin. For those needing a reminder, Damian is the biological son of Bruce Wayne, who was initially trained by the League of Shadows before being rescued and turned into a hero by his father.

The Brave and the Bold will focus on the extended Bat Family and draw inspiration from Grant Morrison’s 2006-2013 run of the Batman comic books. After directing The Flash, Andy Muschietti was chosen to helm The Brave and the Bold. While that might concern fans, since The Flash is horrible, Muschietti deserves the benefit of the doubt. The disastrous result of The Flash was due to many years of development hell and the constant meddling of Warner Bros. Discovery executives. Nevertheless, Muschietti proved to be a good soldier and took the blame for the movie. So, he deserves the chance to show what he can do when granted proper creative freedom.

The DCU version of Batman is expected to be more fantastical than the ones from Matt Reeves or Christopher Nolan. Proof of that is Clayface, a fan-favorite, albeit not realistic, Dark Knight rogue who already appears in Creature Commandos.

Blue Beetle 1z2440

Blue Beetle firing his arm blaster

 • Release date: TBA
 • Showrunner: Miguel Puga

While Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña as the titular character, failed to impress at the box office, the character was mainly well-received by fans. Fortunately, DC Studios has plans for the hero, with an animated series currently developing.

Miguel Puga is helming the Blue Beetle animated series. The live-action movie’s director and writer—Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, respectively — will serve as executive producers. However, that doesn’t mean anything else from the live-action movie will be salvaged, as there’s no official news of Maridueña returning to voice the hero.

Paradise Lost 444d2f

Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA

Paradise Lost takes place in Themyscira, the all-female island where Wonder Woman is born. Set before the birth of Diana, the series promises to deliver a gripping political drama not unlike Game of Thrones. The TV show’s title references Paradise Island Lost, a comic book story by Phil Jimenez and George Pérez about a civil war on the fabled island.

Since Wonder Woman is canonically hundreds of years old, Paradise Lost will occur in the DCU’s far past. The choice to go back in time so much allows Gunn and Safran to create a healthy distance from Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, who will not be back in the new DCU after Wonder Woman 3 got canceled. That way, the new DCU can explore Themyschera’s history and mythology while taking the time to find Gadot’s replacement.

Swamp Thing 4h295

swamp thing
Image via Warner Bros.
 • Release date: TBA
 • Writer/Director: James Mangold

Swamp Thing explores the origins of one of DC’s most beloved horror characters. The movie will be written and directed by James Mangold, the man behind the fan-favorite Marvel adaptation Logan

Swamp Thing is mainly inspired by Alan Moore’s The Saga of the Swamp Thing comic book run, an unsettling body horror story that could result in the scariest DC movie ever. Thanks to Alan Moore, Swamp Thing became a fan-favorite character, so Mangold has the massive weight of expectations over his shoulders. However, according to Gunn, Swamp Thing is a pet project for the director, which is always good to hear.

Booster Gold 51392b

James Gunn has one Marvel star voicing their consideration to play the DCU's Booster Gold
Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA

Booster Gold is the last DCU series in the “God of Monsters” story arc. In DC Comics, Booster Gold is a disgraced football star from the 25th century who travels back in time to gain fame as a superhero. Thanks to the advanced technology he brings back in time, Booster Gold has the power to face supervillains and team up with other superheroes. However, he lacks the know-how of the superhero business, which often leads to comedic situations.

It’s worth noting that Booster Gold frequently teams up with Blue Beetle in the comic books. No one knows if Xolo Maridueña’s version of Blue Beetle will be incorporated into the DCU, but the Booster Gold TV show is an excellent vehicle to bring the hero back to live-action.

Teen Titans 2k3e4p

Teen Titans
Image via Cartoon Network
 • Release date: TBA
 • Writer: Ana Nogueira

Even if Gunn and Safran laid out their whole plan for the “Gods and Monsters” arc, a Teen Titans movie is also being developed by DC Studios. That means it might be a while before Teen Titans hit theaters. Even so, the project already has a writer attached to it, Ana Nogueira, who’s also penning the Supergirl movie.

The Teen Titans are a supergroup classically formed by the sidekicks of DC’s greatest heroes and other young crimefighters. While there’s a popular animated series about the team currently airing, Teen Titans Go!, the grounded nature of the DCU indicates the live-action movie should draw inspiration from adaptations such as Young Justice.

Untitled Bane and Deathstroke movie 20u11

Bane and Deathstroke from DC Comics
Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA
 • Writer: Matthew Orton

While there’s little information about it, DC Studios is working on a script for a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie. Both characters are major villains in Batman’s mythos, men capable of pushing Bruce Wayne to the brink. Plus, both have close ties with the League of Assassins, the organization shaping up to be the leading foe of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Bane was last adapted for the big screen by Christopher Nolan, with Tom Hardy playing the part in The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke, in his turn, had multiple live-action versions over the past decade, from TV shows such as Titans and The CW’s Arrow to Joe Manganiello’s short-lived tenure as the assassin in the defunct DCEU.

Dynamic Duo 5u2m4f

Nightwing and Red Hood from DC Comics
Image via DC Comics
 • Release date: TBA
 • Writer: Matthew Aldrich

DC Studios is planning to expand the Dark Knight corner of the DCU further with an animated Dynamic Duo movie. Batman: The Brave and the Bold revolves around Bruce Wayne’s relationship with Damian, which means the Dark Knight has already had multiple Robins over the years. So, Dynamic Duo will help bridge the gap by following two fan-favorite of the Bat Family: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

Dick is the original Robin, who later becomes Nightwing, protector of Bludhaven. Jason is the Robin the Joker murders in cold blood. Jason eventually returns from the dead and takes up the mantle of the Red Hood, a bloody antihero. The movie will explore Dick and Jason’s formative years before they were pushed to different paths.

Matthew Aldrich, the writer of Pixar’s Coco and Starlight, is penning the project. New Orleans-based Swaybox will handle the animation.

<![CDATA[

Chris Pratt got the Marvel and DC fandoms talking recently when he claimed that he will “100%” be both returning to the MCU as Star-Lord and reuniting with former Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn in the newly minted DCU. In the process, Pratt seemed to cement long-held rumors that he’s all set to play one key DC character.

That character is, of course, Batman. No, wait, put down those pitchforks, I am in jest. Ever since Gunn released the full slate of movies and TV shows that will make up DC Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, fans have felt pretty confident that they knew who would be playing the title role in the Booster Gold TV series. A cocky, comedic-leaning superhero? That’s a character who’s got Pratt’s name all over him.

Except, despite Pratt only ramping up the rumors that he’s the DCU’s Booster Gold, there is another actor on the rise who would be even more perfect for the part. Enter Glen Powell…

Chris Pratt isn’t the DCU’s perfect Booster Gold, Glen Powell is 3d4p27

Image via DC

Glen Powell is having a moment right now. After breaking onto the scene in Top Gun: Maverick, the 35-year-old has followed that up with numerous high-profiles roles that run the genre gamut — he’s been in everything from romcom Anyone But You to disaster flick Twisters to Netflix action-comedy Hit Man. Clearly, one of the few genres he’s yet to tick off is the superhero movie. But the opportunity is surely right around the corner.

And, if it is, then Booster Gold is really the best bet for him. Sure, Pratt would suit the character well, but there is the danger that it would reduce Booster to just Peter Quill 2.0. On the other hand, Powell is primed to give his take on the superhero archetype and his immense popularity right now make it obvious that he would be an incredible asset to a newborn franchise that needs to draw in audiences like the DCU.

One-to-one comic book faithfulness is probably overrated, but, for what it’s worth, Powell is also such a dead ringer for Booster in the source material, what with his tousled blonde locks and face and body shape, that it’s almost uncanny. As for Pratt, it’d be much more fun to see him play a villain next time around — maybe even against John Cena’s Peacemaker!

To be fair, Powell has indicated that he’s not in a hurry to a comic book franchise, with The Hollywood Reporter noting in an interview that he’s looking to avoid “Marvel fare.” But, I mean, he didn’t say he wants to avoid DC fare? Plus, Gunn has a knack for convincing people you never expected to see in a superhero film to in the fun. We are talking about the man who got Bradley Cooper to voice a raccoon, after all.

I’m just saying, Glen Powell is the gold-standard Booster Gold we deserve. Let’s not settle for Booster Silver or Booster Bronze.

Forget the MCU and the DCEU, these heroes are in a league of their own. ]]>
<![CDATA[

The shiny new DCU hasn’t even released a single feature and yet it’s already becoming a pretty crowded place. New DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has begun his relaunch of the cinematic universe in earnest, as the currently ongoing casting process for Superman: Legacy has already raised the hype for the summer 2025 reboot of the Man of Steel’s adventures through the roof in the DC fan community.

Gunn has promised that Legacy will introduce us to “a world where superheroes exist and have existed for quite a while,” so this isn’t going to be a slow drip-feed of familiar characters like both the MCU and the DCEU before it but a crash-course into the rich, storied DC universe that comic book readers are already familiar with. So who are all the superheroes and villains cast and/or confirmed to appear in the DCU to date? Here’s everything you need to know.

Cast l4p3h

It’s true, although Superman: Legacy is being pegged as the true beginning of the DCU, James Gunn has confirmed that Blue Beetle is the first real DCU character. Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maradueña was cast as Jaime Reyes back in August 2021, well over a year before Gunn was even hired himself, and yet its release in August 2023 means it’s in prime placement to be retconned as an early sign of the coming franchise reboot. With any luck, then, Maradueña will be invited back for more projects.

Superman 273cu

Images via Netflix/DC Comics

Just like Henry Cavill kicked off the DCEU, and Christopher Reeve pioneered the whole superhero movie craze in the first place, Superman is launching the DCU. After an exhaustive search, David Corenswet — a man who looks the part so much he could be an AI rendering of the comic book character brought to life, and I mean that in a nice way — was hired in June 2023 to star in Legacy, opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Let’s hope he has a more straightforward career as Kal-El than Cavill.

Lex Luthor k3p47

Jesse Eisenberg in Justice League/Nicholas Hoult in Mad Max: Fury Road/Michael Rosenbaum in Smallville

Nicholas Hoult might’ve failed to land the leading role in Superman: Legacy, but it’s hard to argue that he’s found the role better suited for him in Kal-El’s nemesis himself, Lex Luthor. Similar to Jesse Eisenberg before him, Hoult perhaps is perhaps a little younger than we’d expect Lex to be, but if you’re wondering how he could play a bald villainous character, look no further than Mad Max: Fury Road. Mark my words, he could turn out to be one of the best Lexes.

Mr. Terrific 4z3m2i

This is James Gunn we’re talking about so obviously he’s not wasting anytime in bringing more obscure comics characters to the big screen alongside the usual suspects. For starters, Michael Holt aka Mr. Terrific will appear in Superman: Legacy, with Edi Gathegi cast as the scientific genius and Olympic-level athlete, who’s known to be the third-smartest man in the DC universe (behind Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor). This is Gathegi’s second time in a superhero film after 2011’s X-Men: First Class, in which he played Darwin.

The Engineer 684j1t

The Authority are coming. Don’t know who they are? Don’t worry, you will soon enough. The first member of the underrated DC superhero team has been cast in the form of María Gabriela de Faría, who will be playing tech expert The Engineer. The Venezuelan actress is best known for Nickelodeon series Isa TKM and for her work on prior comic book adaptation, the tragically short-lived Deadly Class. She’s making her DC debut in Superman: Legacy, but expect her to return in The Authority movie.

Hawkgirl 4c6d16

We just met Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman in Black Adam, and while Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero is unlikely to factor into the DCU, it seems Gunn has plans for the Hawks. Isabela Merced, essentially poached from Sony as she’s already due to start in Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, has likewise ed the cast of Superman: Legacy as Hawkgirl. Kendra Saunders, most known from the Justice League animated series, is either a reincarnated Egyptian princess or an alien warrior, depending on the continuity.

Metamorpho 254a3l

When adventurer Rex Mason discovered the Orb of Ra, he was transformed into a shifting mass of chemicals and reborn as Metamorpho. In the DCU, Metamorpho is to be played by Barry star Anthony Carrigan, who already has history in the DC multiverse after playing Victor Zsasz in Gotham. With Metamorpho’s entrance, Gunn has brought together two out of four of The Terrifics, DC’s answer to the Fantastic Four.

Nathan Fillion attends World Premiere Of Marvel Studios' "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3" on April 27, 2023 in Hollywood, California/Guy Gardner's Green Lantern DC Comics

It’s fair to say the DCEU well and truly wasted the vast potential of the Green Lantern Corps, so it’s encouraging that Gunn looks not to be repeating that mistake. First of all, one of Gunn’s best pals and most frequent collaborators, Nathan Fillion, will return to DC — after his cameo as TDK in The Suicide Squad — in Superman: Legacy. This time, he’s playing Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern who most had his time in the spotlight in 1980s comics. And, yes, he will have the red-headed bowlcut.

Creature Commandos 1j60k

A bit like the Suicide Squad mixed with Universal’s Dark Universe, the Creature Commandos animated series will introduce Amanda Waller’s other black-ops team comprised of classic monsters. Their number includes Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), the Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), the amphibious Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), the radioactive Doctor Phosphorous (Alan Tudyk), and original-to-the-screen character Princess Illana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova). Sean Gunn plays both android G.I. Robot. and Weasel, returning from The Suicide Squad. Frank Grillo is Rick Flag Snr.

That’s it for the characters who have been cast at the time of writing, but there are plenty more coming. At the top of the pile, of course we have the Dark Knight himself, plus the Boy Wonder, returning to live-action cinema for the first time since 1997. As helmed by The Flash‘s Andy Muschietti, The Brave and the Bold will focus on Bruce Wayne’s bond with his long-lost son, Damian Wayne, who becomes Robin. Fans are hoping other Bat-Family , such as Dick Grayson and Tim Drake, will likewise appear.

Swamp Thing 4h295

swamp thing

The only other DCU project to have a director attached at this point is Swamp Thing, which will be written and directed by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s James Mangold. The star of two 1980s B-movies and a sadly short-lived streaming series, Swamp Thing is the living lump of green sludge that Dr. Alec Holland becomes when he falls into a mutagenic swamp. The guardian of the Green, the force that binds all plant-life, Swamp Thing is a mystical, tragic character with oodles of potential to explore.

Green Lanterns (Hal Jordan and John Stewart) 48582f

Green Lantern Hal Jordan DC Comics

Fillion’s Guy Gardner is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the DCU’ exploration of the Green Lantern Corps. After years of being stuck in development hell, Gunn is finally working on a reboot of the franchise. Specifically, a Lanterns TV series is in development, described as True Detective-style buddy cop show in which John Stewart and Hal Jordan will team up to solve an Earth-based mystery. Don’t expect Ryan Reynolds to be involved back as Hal. Or for their suits to be CGI.

The Authority 4h1070

The Authority

Perhaps the most left-field project Gunn greenlit for the DCU’s Chapter One is The Authority, a movie based on the superhero team who originally hailed from the WildStorm universe that was eventually folded into DC canon. Their roster includes the electrokinetic Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor — he bonds with cities to draw power from them, it’s kinda hard to explain — Tibetan winged warrior woman Swift, and fan-favorites Apollo and Midnighter — essentially Superman and Batman analogues who are a married couple.

Booster Gold 51392b

James Gunn has said he’s open to casting all his Guardians of the Galaxy buddies in the DCU, and if he’s looking to hire Chris Pratt anywhere then he really needs look no further than Booster Gold. The star of his own self-titled TV series, Booster is a failed football player from the 25th century who travels back in time with some future tech to become a glory-seeking superpowered pin-up, only to learn what it really means to be a hero. The character previously appeared on both Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow.

Last but not least, we just met Sasha Calle’s Supergirl in The Flash, and wouldn’t you know it, Gunn has plans to give the Girl of Steel her own solo outing in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as based on the Tom King comic of the same name. However, it’s currently unclear whether Calle will be invited back for this project or not, although she’s naturally interested. Given that Muschietti is being kept around, though, the chances of Calle being transferred over to the DCU alongside him are decent.

A wealth of possibility lies ahead for the DCU's first hero.]]>
<![CDATA[

Warning: Spoilers for Blue Beetle to follow

Its box office fate might end up being another story, but Blue Beetle‘s creative team has every reason to hold their heads high; though it’s arguably no grand task to lay claim to the high point of the DC Extended Universe, Ángel Manuel Soto’s expertly-woven superhero flick has all the ingredients the incoming DC Universe needs to soft-launch something special, whether that’s Xolo Maridueña’s star-making turn as Jaime Reyes, storytelling that’s several cuts above what we’re used to seeing from this side of the superhero genre, and, of course, one hell of a mid-credits scene.

The mid-credits scene in question revealed that Ted Kord, the original Blue Beetle before Jaime Reyes, is still alive, meaning we now have two conduits for whatever future cobalt-clad shenanigans Gunn and company have in store for us.

But where exactly might these adventures take place? Here’s where Blue Beetle, be it Jaime, Ted, or some combination of the two, could show up next in the Gunnverse.

Booster Gold 51392b

via DC Comics

A quick glance at the slate for Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is all we need to pinpoint the most likely source of Blue Beetle’s reappearance, and that’s Booster Gold, the Max comedy series starring the eponymous, time-traveling embodiment of imposter syndrome himself.

Indeed, with Booster Gold being a longtime friend of Ted – and frequent ally of both Ted and Jaime – in the comics, it’s no great leap in logic to assume that that will be honored by the Max series. There are no plot details to this at the time of writing, of course, but the history between the Beetles and Booster is all we need to be confident about this assumption.

The Brave and the Bold 6o296n

Image via DC Comics

In the comics, shortly after Jaime unwittingly fuses with Khaji-Da and becomes the Blue Beetle we know and love from the new film, one of the first characters he ends up teaming with is none other than Batman, where he aids the Dark Knight in taking down the Brother Eye satellite.

The two heroes are introduced to one another by Booster Gold, whose solo series we already know has the strongest chance of re-introducing Ted and Jaime to the DCU, so who’s to say that the mid-credits scene in Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold won’t feature Booster Gold rolling up to Batman with a young Jaime – one of Earth’s newest superheroes who’s starving for more action – in tow as the caped crusader prepares his next plan?

Ted’s notable history with Batman is also a worthy note here, but the one thing working against this possibility is that The Brave and the Bold will be based on Grant Morrison’s Batman comic run from 2006 to 2013, which Blue Beetle doesn’t get involved in. But then again, there’s a reason we specified the possibility of a mid-credits scene appearance. In any case, of the confirmed DCU films, The Brave and the Bold is the Beetle’s best shot at a comeback.

Lanterns 3m322z

Green Lantern
Image via DC Comics

Buckle up, folks; we’re getting into tinfoil hat territory here.

We know that Lanterns, a detective series featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart – two of the Green Lanterns – will see the two heroes investigate a mystery on Earth, the nuances of which will play an enormous role in the main storyline of the DCU.

In the monthly solo comic series featuring Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle, he learns that Khaji-Da’s with humans had a corrupting effect on it, rendering it out of control of the Reach, an ancient race of aliens responsible for creating the scarab.

He later learns from Guy Gardner – another Green Lantern who will be portrayed by Nathan Fillion in the franchise – that the Green Lantern Corps and the Reach used to be at war, and that the Reach was eventually forced to cease their militaristic efforts, but later covertly continued them, using the rogue scarab to infiltrate Earth as it rebuilt its more loyal artificial intelligence back up.

Is it possible, then, that the scarab just might be the very thing that Hal and John will be investigating in Lanterns, of which the subsequent implications could foreshadow a Countdown to Final Crisis-esque event that Gunn may or may not be leading up to? Well, only time will tell.

Peacemaker t4p

Peacemaker John Cena
Image via HBO Max

This possibility would probably never amount to more than a cheeky cameo, but Jaime has teamed up with Peacemaker in the comics before, and with the second season of the high-flying, John Cena-led dark dramedy series having long been confirmed, that could very well be honored with a wave or two from the newest Blue Beetle.

Following his assisting Batman and squaring off with a corrupted Guy Gardner, some of the earliest moments of Jaime’s superhero career in the comics involved ing up with Peacemaker, with whom he took on challenges ranging from crime bosses to the aforementioned Reach empire.

It would probably be too tricky to squeeze in a major role for him, but who’s to say that Jaime won’t pop his head in the door during whatever plight Peacemaker and company find themselves in next season?

Justice League/Teen Titans 4c6ro

Justice_League_New_Frontier
Image via DC Comics / Warner Bros. Animation / MUBI

Okay, so you wouldn’t be totally off-base in saying that this is cheating a bit; not only is neither a Justice League or Teen Titans project publicly on the books for the DCU as of right now, but the sheer inevitability of Justice League at least – as well as Blue Beetle’s involvement with it – makes for too obvious a pick.

Indeed, there’s no way we won’t be getting a proper Justice League film from the Gunnverse, seeing as the team’s formation is one of the most important moments in the history of DC’s continuity. And while Ted Kord is more likely to be roped into the first iteration of the Justice League, who’s to say that Jaime’s experience with entering the superhero game at a young age won’t come in handy when the DCU’s Teen Titans come rolling around?

Should this all come true, the most obvious subsequent story beat would involve Ted Kord dying and Jaime taking his place in the Justice League – a state of affairs that would have quite the effect on Jaime, having lost his most important father figure (namely, his father) in Blue Beetle – but we were getting ahead of ourselves simply by mentioning a Justice League project; let’s just kick back, let Gunn do his thing, and happily drink in all the fresh comic book adaptation goodies he’ll be sending our way in due time.

<![CDATA[

James Gunn has a tendency to cast his friends and family in his projects, but maybe it’s time to cast his net a little wider for the title role in Booster Gold. Especially since an American Pie alumni recently threw his hat in the ring.

The director and comic nerd has been largely silent regarding his DCU projects recently. Probably because he’s still bathing in the love and positivity from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The threequel showcased some of Gunn’s best directorial traits and has won over many who were on the fence about him. Now as minds return to the future of the DCU, Sean William Scott has expressed his interest in the role of Michael Carter AKA Booster Gold.

That’s right, Stifler himself could finally be the star of a comic book adaptation. Scott’s got to be one of the only stars left in Hollywood yet to enter the comic world but it’s clearly on his mind as he spoke with Comicbook.com and stated his interest.

“I definitely would. I’d love to. I think it’d be fun to do a comic book movie […] I think the first character that came to mind was — Booster Gold”

Sean William Scott – Comicbook.com

There’s Some Fierce competition for the Role 454n43

It sounds like Scott has a genuine interest in the character, so perhaps he’s been a fan for a while. Unfortunately for him, rumors have been circulating that Gunn intended to give the role to longtime collaborator, Chris Pratt. Although nothing has been confirmed for either regarding the rumors, we do know that Gunn intends to bring Pratt into the DCU in some way and Booster Gold seems like a character that he would play perfectly. Whilst many fans have despaired at the idea, Pratt himself has already stated that he would take the role if Gunn thought he was right for it.

Of course, nothing is set in stone, and the door could very much still be open for Scott to take the role and make it his own. Seeing Stifler from American Pie as a time traveling superhero would be all the DCU needs to be better than Marvel. The actor went on to speak more about the possibility of playing the character.

“But I think I’m too old for it… I don’t know if he’s supposed to be younger. I just don’t his age, but … ‘That’s a great character.'”

For context, Sean William Scott is 46 and Chris Pratt is 43. There’s really not much of an age gap. If Pratt has a shot at the role then so does Scott. Without throwing shade at Chris, it would be great to see a new face in the DCU instead of the same ones we’ve been seeing in the MCU for years, plus fans might riot if Gunn casts him again.

Rebooting the DC Universe for what feels like the umpteenth time is no small task for James Gunn, who has been entrusted with getting a sleeping giant to finally hit its stride in a shared canon. Among Gunn’s starting lineup for heroes and villains is Booster Gold, but fans have already made it clear they don’t want Chris Pratt anywhere near it.

Yes, the same man who seems destined to play every animated character on the face of the planet open to the idea of playing the 25th century maverick superhuman. Pratt, who is currently on promotional duties for both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, spoke to Rolling Stone about his future, and name-dropped his interest in potentially playing Mike Carter.

Pratt told the outlet that “if James [Gunn] thought I was right for it, then you know that would I would have to consider it,” although it doesn’t sound like there’s been any concrete talk of casting the former Parks and Recreation star in the comic book adaptation just yet.

The rise of Pratt to become a bona fide movie star is quite something to witness. After losing a considerable amount of weight to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, he went on to get the lead role in the Jurassic World trilogy, while also making his way through action flicks and series like The Terminal List.

The actor isn’t quite as universally popular as some of his Marvel co-stars, especially for misdeeds in his personal life, as well as his alleged of anti-LGBTQ+ church Hillsong, under its Zoe Church.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in cinemas May 5.

Let's hope it's not another J.J. Abrams scenario.]]>
<![CDATA[

As we’ve seen from a handful of projects to have entered development under the stewardship of J.J. Abrams, Warner Bros. and HBO don’t have an issue canning episodic originals based on DC characters if they don’t find themselves won over by the initial pitch.

With that in mind, just because James Gunn and Peter Safran are overseeing the film, television, live-action, and animated side of the comic book company’s output, it doesn’t mean every single one of them is guaranteed to make it to air, regardless of whether they’ve been announced, confirmed, teased, or even vaguely hinted at.

Speaking to Variety about the incoming slate that includes Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold, HBO chief Casey Bloys ominously intoned that if something isn’t working, then he’s happy to explore other options that will.

via Warner Bros.

“As I talked to James and Peter about it, we’re going to develop these things and hopefully they’re all great. If they’re not, we’ll have other options and we’ll see. But what’s most exciting is that they’ve got a plan. Anything that James is excited about in of DC, I’m good with. I just want to make sure for Max that they’re the best shows that we can do.”

We’d wager that they’ll all be safe in their current iterations, but given that cancellation sprees are all the rage these days on virtually every notable streaming service, there might come a day when Gunn and Safran are having to fight an uphill battle to get a DCU project on the airwaves, because quality is apparently what comes first for Bloys and his team.

There have finally been some positive reactions to Gunn's new DCU.]]>
<![CDATA[

Love him or hate him, it can’t be denied that James Gunn has at least had a positive impact on DC Comics sales, and the director has taken a moment to celebrate the positive response on Twitter.

Despite the very loud outcry over the direction Gunn is taking with the DCU, it seems that fans are actually hyped for the Guardians of the Galaxy director’s DC titles. Or at least that’s what the DC comic book top sellers list seems to be indicating.

The list of bestsellers pictured above is almost entirely full of source material Gunn plans to adapt for the DCU’s inaugural cinematic phase.

Gunn also took the opportunity to geek out with a few DC fans over their favorite comics.

Details regarding the first phase of Gunn’s new universe were announced last week, which explains the newfound excitement for DC content. We now know that the first phase will be called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. This chapter will be integral in setting up Gunn’s vision and it’s clear that there is already a very well-thought-out plan in place for how the shared universe will develop.

The list of films and TV series was also announced, with 11 projects in total set to drop over the next decade. It will kick off with Superman: Legacy in 2025. But we’ll also be seeing live-action adaptations of other heroes including Supergirl, Swamp Thing and Booster Gold either as big-screen movies or TV series. However, the release date for these projects has yet to be confirmed.

It’s great to see some positive fan reactions to the newly rebooted DCU. Gunn’s vision has struggled to escape the shadow of the SnyderVerse, which many fans are still clinging to, no matter how many times Gunn has reiterated that it is dead.

How strong are the gods and monsters that are about to reignite DC?]]>
<![CDATA[

The death of the DCEU didn’t come as a shock to many who had grown tired of the lackluster live-action storytelling over the years, but with a new and hopefully improved DCU on the way, good things are around the corner for the fans. James Gunn and Peter Safran are now at the steering wheel for what many hope to be a rejuvenation of the live-action treatment of comic book characters and stories that have stood the test of time.

When it comes to legendary heroes and villains, DC Comics aren’t new to the game. Over the decades, the popular comic book publishers have created some of the most iconic and powerful fictional characters in history. But while tons of these characters have excelled on paper, DC has notably had issues adapting them for the big screen.

Of course, establishing a cinematic universe is no easy feat, and this is evident from the multiple franchises that have tried to do so and failed in recent history. While the DC Extended Universe may not be categorized as a failure, there has certainly been lots of room for improvement. So Gunn and Safran’s proposed establishment of a tight continuity in the new DC Universe is giving many fans hope for what’s to come.

The new DCU 7o6y

In November 2022, it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran will be the new heads of DC Studios. This means that they are in charge of all DC Universe content that will be put out by Warner Bros. in the future. When the pair were placed at the forefront of DC Studios, fans were immediately curious to know what the two creative minds had in store for the future of the franchise on the big screen.

In a video release, Gunn detailed their plans for the next decade of DC content, which will feature movies, TV series, and animated movies. The new universe isn’t just going to feature standalone projects, but will have an ordered continuity between the releases for a seamless viewership experience, and this will be the first time that such a continuity will be established among DC properties outside the comics.

Even though some of the standalone projects in the DCEU were box office successes, many fans had expressed desires to see more of a shared universe between the installments. Gunn also explained that while the DCU will feature soft reboots for popular and beloved characters, there’s so much more to expect from them. After all, he has been known to take less popular comic characters and launch them to global acclaim, particularly the Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel, as well as The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for DC. The success of Peacemaker especially cemented Gunn’s talent and instinct for character work with lesser-known properties.

In their announcement video, Gunn listed 10 new projects that will be coming in the next decade of DC releases. These include five feature length films, four TV series, and an animated TV show, with the culmination of these projects falling under the first phase of the DCU, called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The announced projects feature a healthy mix of both popular and recognizable characters, as well as fan-favorites who have never been given the live-action treatment.

Among these are some of DC’s strongest and most impressive characters, and come 2025, the DCU will officially kick off with a new Superman movie titled Superman: Legacy. There will also be a Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold, which will feature a live-action Batman and Robin for the first time since 1997.

Other known characters that will be getting shows or movies include the Green Lantern, Supergirl, and Amanda Waller. As for their less-popular properties, the DCU will include projects about characters and teams such as Booster Gold, The Authority, Swamp Thing, and even a Wonder Woman prequel series set in Themyscira.

With the information we have available, here are the most powerful of James Gunn’s DCU lineup, ranked from least to most powerful.

10. Booster Gold 311q2u

Michael Carter is a time-traveling hero from the 25th century. Seeking fame and fortune, Michael stole some superhero equipment from a museum, and traveled back to the 20th century where he introduced himself as the hero Booster Gold. The equipment he stole gave him abilities such as flight, creating force fields, super strength, and more, but none of these compare to the size of his ego. A fan-favorite character from the comic books, Booster Gold starts out annoying and burdensome, but grows to win the hearts of his superhero peers.

9. Amanda Waller 2n2d1f

Image via DC

Amanda Waller may not be powerful in the conventional way, as she doesn’t have superpowers or use any high-tech devices to give her an edge. Waller is powerful due to her ruthless nature, high government ranking, and intimidating demeanor. In every media depiction of the character, she is shown as a woman not to be trifled with, and as the director of ARGUS, she has a lot of resources at her disposal. Waller is also the director of the Suicide Squad program, which is one of the most impressive displays of her power. She keeps her people in line and has been nicknamed “The Wall” due to her unbreakable will and stubbornness. The only character to survive the DC purge, she will be played once again by Viola Davis in an television series

8. Batman 6t2s3s

Image via Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics

The guardian of Gotham is another character that may not have superpowers but knows how to use his strengths to his advantage. One of the most iconic comic characters ever, Batman is sometimes called “the world’s best detective,” as his mental prowess is one of his strongest abilities. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire superhero, so he has the resources to create all kinds of gadgets and tools, such as his Batmobile, and all the tools in his utility belt. Bruce doesn’t just rely on his tools, though; he has a strict exercise regimen and is trained in multiple martial arts to ensure that he always has an advantage over his foes.

7. Swamp Thing 4w123

Swamp Thing
Image via DC Comics

The Swamp Thing is an amalgam of scientist Alec Holland and the spirit of the swamp called The Green. When Alex Holland died in the swamp, The Green created The Swamp Thing as its avatar and defender. Swamp Thing is a humanoid plant creature covered in vegetation. He isn’t weighed down by human or physical needs, as he is mostly a plant, and also possesses super strength. Due to his connection to The Green, Swamp Thing can control all forms of vegetation and plant life, manipulating them to do his bidding. He is very powerful and nearly impossible to kill or destroy.

6. Apollo 382h2m

Image via DC Comics

The cast of The Authority hasn’t been confirmed yet, but as Apollo is one of the most important of the team in the comics, it is safe to assume that he will be a part of the movie. Apollo was a member of the Stormwatch Black team who was experimented on by Henry Bendix, the Weatherman. He gained super strength, heat vision, and invulnerability due to this experimentation, and all his powers are derived from solar energy, giving him the name Apollo. He can absorb solar energy and shoot it out in powerful blasts.

5. Jenny Sparks 213a3z

Image via DC Comics

If there is any character from The Authority that must be on this list, it is their leader and founder, Jenny Sparks. Jenny founded the new team with former of Stormwatch Black with the goal of changing and protecting the world. She is known as the “Spirit of the 20th Century,” as she was born on January 1, 1900, and died on December 31, 1999. She has powers over electricity, with the ability to manipulate, absorb, control, and even use it to teleport. She can also transform into an electric form; she becomes pure electrical energy, and thus can transmit herself into electric-powered machines to manipulate them.

4. Hal Jordan 2m3d

Image via DC Comics

In of raw power, Hal Jordan is probably the most powerful Green Lantern. He trained as a military test pilot before becoming a Green Lantern and therefore has advanced military training. His Green Lantern ring gives him powers such as flight, hard-light projections, and creating constructs that are then magnified by his own will. Hal has been noted to be a Green Lantern with one of the most powerful wills, making him able to do things that other Lanterns are unable to, such as killing a Guardian.

3. John Stewart 355714

Image via DC Comics

As the leader of the Green Lantern Corps as well as a member of the Green Lantern Honor Guard, John Stewart is a very impressive character. Due to his Marine training on Earth before becoming a Green Lantern, John is an excellent marksman. He ultimately has all the same Green Lantern powers as Hal Jordan, but where John excels over Hal is in his amazing self-discipline and his sound judgment. Alongside his Green Lantern powers, John also has a connection to The Source, which gives him that extra edge to be the most powerful of the Green Lanterns.

2. Supergirl 266563

Supergirl in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'
Image via DC Comics

Kara Zor-El is the cousin of Superman, aka Kal-El. While she is a very powerful character in her own right and has even defeated Superman in some battles, she has to take second place to her cousin on this list. This is mostly because Kal-El has spent more time on Earth absorbing the power of the yellow sun and has achieved a higher mastery of his powers than Kara. Supergirl has all the classic Kryptonian powers such as super strength, speed and reflexes, laser eyes, and more.

1. Superman 4c91e

Image via DC Comics

Without a doubt, Superman remains the strongest character in Gunn’s current lineup. Superman’s powers include all the “supers:”from super strength, to super speed, reflexes, durability, hearing, and healing. Coupled with his other powers, like flight, laser eyes, and ice breath, it is very difficult to create a hero stronger than Kal-El, with his cousin being one of the few who have come close. As for now, the Man of Steel remains the most powerful member of James Gunn’s new DCU lineup.

James Gunn and Peter Safran recently announced the first wave of movies and TV shows that will feature in the Gods and Monsters Chapter of the new and hopefully improved DCU, based on characters in the famous DC Comics franchise. The first phase, or chapter, will focus on telling complex stories of characters, both popular and relatively obscure. Following the shocking announcement that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing the man of steel, fans can’t help but wonder what other changes Gunn and Safran have planned for the DCU.

Some recasting will inevitably be done for major recognizable names that we have previously seen in the DCEU. This has led to a wave of fan casting as DC fans continue to envision their favorite actors and actresses as their favorite characters. One actor that has been popping up in many fan casts, and rightfully so, is the ever-so talented Jonathan Majors.

Majors first hit mainstream success due to his role in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, quickly nabbing roles alongside some of Hollywood’s most prolific names in future projects like Lovecraft Country and The Harder They Fall. It wasn’t until a role in the MCU’s Loki that would give many comic book fans a taste of the actor’s strength as a performer. Now, with a major reprisal in Ant-Man: Quantumania, Majors is set for the stars.

Kang is one of the most anticipated characters for the future of the MCU as he is shaping up to be the next Thanos-level threat to the universe. After his performance in Loki, fans immediately knew that Majors had what it takes to portray this powerful and intimidating character in all his complexity. But DC fans are also hungry for some of his talents in the DCU.

From his previous roles, it is clear that the actor is a versatile one, and there are multiple roles that he would be absolutely perfect for in the DCU and all the morally gray stories Gunn and Safran plan on telling in Gods and Monsters.

A brief history 1u5s5g

DC comics have had a long and complicated history of live-action adaptations of their comic books. While their animated movies and TV shows have done well in the past, the executives at DC Films have struggled with establishing a strong live-action universe.

DC took a shot at establishing a cinematic universe with the DC Extended Universe, or the DCEU. Kicking off with Man of Steel in 2013, up until the most recent entry, 2022’s Black Adam, the DCEU has been pushing out movies for almost a decade.

In November of 2022, DC Films saw a structure change, switching to DC Studios which will now be headed by Gunn and Safran, veterans from the DCEU. Gunn and Safran recently announced their plans for the future of DC movies, stating that the DCEU will now be called the DC Universe, or DCU.

In their announcement video for the new DCU, they shared that the first slate of projects for this new universe will be titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters and will not only feature a tight continuity, but will serve as a soft reboot for many DC live action characters, beginning with Superman in Superman: Legacy, slated for a July 2025 release.

If introduced to the DCU, Majors also would not be the first actor to feature in both Marvel and DC movie universes. Idris Elba, Willem Dafoe, Laurence Fishburne, and even Captain America himself Chris Evans have all played for both teams.

With that being said, here are 10 roles that would be perfect for Jonathan Majors in the reformed DCU.

John Stewart/Green Lantern 4p6c6v

Another project that was announced for the coming DCU is a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns. The movie will feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and there are few actors more suited to portraying John Stewart quite like Jonathan Majors. John is the leader of the Green Lantern Corps and one of the most popular Black characters in comic book history. He was a Marine before becoming a Lantern and has very strong morals which led to him earning his Green Lantern ring.

Black Hand 22725j

If Gunn and Safran aren’t keen on casting Johnathan Majors as a Green Lantern, he could also play an antagonist to the Lantern Corps. Black Hand, whose real name is William Hand, is an eccentric, genius supervillain who developed technology to siphon the powers of the Green Lantern rings for himself. His obsession with power led him to become the physical manifestation of Death, with the power to drain the life force of those around him. Majors would shine in such an apologetically evil role as fans expect to see him do as Kang the Conqueror.

Superman 273cu

Since Henry Cavill’s exit from the role of the Man of Steel, the question of who will replace him has been on the minds of every fan of the character, especially considering Gunn’s desire to opt for a younger actor. Without a doubt, Cavills’s run as Kal-El is iconic and he embodied the character perfectly while the role was his, but now that a change is coming, Majors would be a great choice to play the last son of Krypton. Though the release date and title of the next Superman movie have been announced, the actor who will be playing the man of steel himself has yet to be revealed.

Victor Stone/Cyborg 6l131z

Victor Stone is another of DC’s most prominent Black heroes. The character has been played by multiple actors in different DC-related projects from Smallville to Justice League. Many fans have complained that Cyborg hasn’t gotten the attention he deserves as a character in recent DC installments, so casting Majors in the role would be a chance for Gunn and Safran to finally give Cyborg a worthy live-action story. Assuming the new Superman and Batman movies slated for the DCU will be leading to a new Justice League, Gunn and Safran could even include a Cyborg solo movie in there somewhere.

J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter 2l4p4k

While the Martian Manhunter is an alien from Mars, he has a history of being portrayed by Black actors in live-action adaptations. He was one of the last survivors from Mars after the planet was destroyed and he came to Earth seeking justice and peace. He was the founder of the Justice Society of America and has worked with the Justice League, Green Lantern Corps, and even local police departments when necessary. J’onn is one of the most morally upright characters in DC comics and is known for his wise and level-headed advice which Majors would nail perfectly.

H’El 1r2h47

H’El was a clone created by Kal-El’s parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van on Krypton. He was made to ensure the continuity of Krypton’s cultures and ways which became a problem when he landed on Earth after the destruction of Krypton. H’El is a great villain for both Superman and Supergirl as his desire to see Krypton restored leads him to believe that the only way to do so is to destroy Earth. Making him a villain in the Supergirl project would be even more interesting, since Kara wanted to help him at first before ultimately deciding to defend Earth.

Batwing 5x4s2s

While Superman and Batwing are vastly different in countenance and personality, Majors definitely has what it takes to pull off the stoic hero and defender of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because his story is Africa-centric, there’s so much room for growth for the character, and Batwing has been a defender of Gotham on numerous occasions. This leaves the part- time guardian of Gotham open for a talent like Majors.

Midnighter 1g2z1h

Among the projects that were announced for the DCU was The Authority, a film about a group of jaded superheroes that work more as anti-heroes. Midnighter is one of the most popular of the team, alongside his husband, Apollo, Jenny Sparks, and a few others. After being experimented on during the Stormwatch program, Midnighter emerged with superhuman strength and reflexes as well as an enhanced healing factor and the ability to foretell how a battle will go before it happens. One of the character’s core traits is his love for violence and Majors is one actor that can showcase his unique personality perfectly.

John Constantine 116l2i

Image via DC Comics

The announcement of a new Swamp Thing movie is the perfect way to introduce John Constantine to the DC Universe. Constantine is a character that has appeared in multiple stories, but was actually introduced in the Swamp Thing comics as a warlock and detective who deals in the occult. The character is witty, sarcastic, and cynical which made him an instant hit with fans. Constantine being an Englishman is a fairly important part of his character, but we’re quite sure that Johnathan Majors can pull off a British accent.

Michael Carter/Booster Gold 3n1y34

Image via DC Comics

Fans were excited to hear that a Booster Gold series has been added to the new DCU lineup. Booster Gold, also known as Michael Jon Carter, is a regular guy from the 25th century who used time-traveling equipment to return to the 20th century where he leads the world to believe he is a superhero. The character starts out arrogant and obsessed with fame, but grows into becoming a worthwhile hero, gaining the respect of his peers. He is one of the more comedic characters in DC’s roster and it would be fun to see Major’s take on the hero.

The complaints are streaming in. ]]>
<![CDATA[

After DC definitely dominated the superhero side of the internet yesterday, Marvel wrestled to take back control today as we welcomed in February by delivering something fans have been waiting months for. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now at last available to view at your leisure on Disney Plus, after the single longest gap between an MCU film’s theatrical release and its streaming arrival since the platform began. You’d think this might keep folks happy, but actually you’d be wrong…

Yes, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally made its Disney Plus debut today, but unfortunately it didn’t go to plan. The excitement surrounding its long-awaited streaming premiere was overshadowed by many fans making the same complaint about the film on social media. The criticism stemmed from the fact that the movie was turning out to be even harder to watch than folks ed from their theatrical viewings — although not because of all the emotional moments, but because of its lack of brightness. I mean, we always knew this was one of the darker MCU offerings, but come on, Disney, this is taking it too far.

Long after Iron Man, Captain America, and many Phase One favorites have departed the franchise, Tom Hiddleston is still hanging around as Loki, but the God of Mischief’s many fans are pondering what his story arc across the rest of the Multiverse Saga will look like. The time-traveling trickster is likely to encounter Kang again in Loki season two, so this has led to much speculation that he could continue to be a key player as the temporal tyrant amasses more and more power in the run-up to Avengers: Secret Wars. , fans have previously guessed that Thor’s brother could be one of three heroes who are eventually responsible for conquering the Conqueror.

Even haters can’t deny Chris Pratt needs to take on this just-announced superhero role after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 7132j

Thanks to his bizarre casting as Mario, Chris Pratt is now the butt of every gag when it comes to movie recasts — just this week, DC folks started joking that he should take over from Zachary Levi as Shazam. But James Gunn’s recent DCU announcements actually paved the way for the Star-Lord star to Marvel’s rival franchise in a role he would be genuinely perfect for. Even his antis can’t help but agree that Pratt is the only choice to lead the newly announced Booster Gold movie. Not only could the timing not be better, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding the saga this May, but Gunn has teased he’s thinking about bringing Pratt into the fold. As Gold? Well, he does need the boost.

Unlike Wakanda Forever, the Marvel news machine never goes dark, so don’t go anywhere.

Not everyone on the internet is sick of the actor yet.]]>
<![CDATA[

Love him or hate him, we might end up seeing Chris Pratt back on our screens, this time as DC superhero, Booster Gold, and fans aren’t even that mad about it.

James Gunn revealed plans for a live-action project for the time traveling hero’s debut into the DCU, and many are actually asking for Pratt to be cast. Booster Gold is a prominent character in the DC comics, he’s even a member of the Justice League. However, outside of his appearance in the comics, Legends of Tomorrow, and a few animated series, the character is not widely known by many.

The call for Pratt to take the role has come a little out of left field considering the opinion many hold of him. The actor has frequently received criticism for being cast in too many projects, to the point that viewers found themselves sick of seeing him. This includes the Super Mario Bros. movie which left many fans upset over the choice to cast Pratt, who doesn’t even try to give an Italian accent to the character.

Even before that, fans labeled the Guardians of the Galaxy star as the worst Chris in Hollywood. It seems that sentiments have changed yet again, proving how fickle the internet can be. Fans gave their opinions on Twitter regarding the possibility of Pratt being cast as the DC superhero.

Many were in favor of him being cast due to the role being a great fit for the actor’s specific skill set, that being the heroic but also comedic leader that he played so well in the MCU. Gold Booster is definitely a better fit for him compared to a character like Mario.

The decision to accept the very real possibility that Pratt will be hired may be to do with the fact that this isn’t a massively well-known character, and he will also be debuting on the small screen. Or it may be that the internet has finally accepted the inevitable truth that nothing can stop Chris Pratt from taking every single leading role in existence.

Whilst some fans did express their disappointment for the likelihood that Pratt will be cast in the role, it seems to be a minority who aren’t excited about the prospect of seeing him taking on another superhero leading role.

James Gunn has made it clear that he wants to bring his MCU family over to the DCU eventually. So even if we don’t see Chris Pratt as Booster Gold, we’ll very likely see the actor pop up in some capacity eventually in the DCU. But for now, fans are okay with that, so he can breathe a sigh of relief.
