The Bachelorette season 20 saw its titular star, Charity Lawson, whittling down the prospective men to find one made of true husband material, and picking her dream man in the form of Dotun Olubeko. Though the finale was full of tears as she bid farewell to Joey Graziadei, she turned to Olubeko with joy as she accepted his proposal of marriage.

The season came to an emotional end as Lawson had to make the hard decision between two men she claimed to love, telling her family they are “the greatest two guys I have met, ever.” In the end, though, she had to make a decision, and though Graziadei was certain he would end up with a fiancée at the end of the show, she ultimately picked Olubeko, just as we predicted.

Throughout the show, it was obvious he was besotted with her and shared her goals of building a future together. It became apparent that Charity felt the same way, and though she held a special place in her heart for Graziadei, it wasn’t as deep a love as she felt for Dotun.

It’s been a year since the season 20 finale, with the engaged couple living away from the cameras and the often-unreal world of filming a reality television series, so did they stick it out and make their way down the aisle?

Are Charity and Dotun still engaged?

The Bachelorette‘s season 20 finale was a three-hour-long doozy, with an After the Final Rose live segment catching up with many of the contestants and checking in to see if Lawson and Olubeko were still engaged. The two announced at the time that they were still together, which was confirmed again when they showed up together at The Golden Wedding the following year.

In a special moment after Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist tied the knot on The Golden Wedding ⏤ which aired on ABC Jan. 4, 2024 ⏤ Olubeko announced that he and Lawson planned to get married in the fall of 2025.

The show doesn’t particularly have the highest success rate of couples staying together, though, with only four out of the 19 seasons prior still remaining together to this day, as of October 2024. Even Gerry Turner, the first Golden Bachelor, announced his split from Nist three months after their televised wedding.

While Charity and Dotun have teased their wedding plans on their Instagram s, posts featuring the couple as of late have been few and far between. Alarm bells rang for fans of the couple on September 7th, 2024, when Charity told US Weekly that the two had put their wedding plans on a “pause.”

“We’ve taken a pause on it and I’m totally fine announcing that. I feel like people ask all the time, ‘How’s wedding planning? Or where are we at?’” Charity, 28, told the publication. The phrasing and word choice of “pause” — along with the headlines that followed — seemed to suggest the wedding was off entirely. However, Lawson clarified what she meant by a “pause,” explaining that the pressure to organize the wedding within a swift timeframe was not worth the stress it caused the couple.

“For me, I got in this space where I just felt this constant pressure of, like, I need to check off something every month or every week. And it got to the point where I’m like, ‘I don’t wanna do that right now,’” Charity elaborated. “I’m also still just easing into life and normalcy again. Obviously, we’re still getting married. We’re taking a moment, taking a beat.”

Last night (March 18) during the Bachelor “Women Tell All,” third place finisher Rachel Nance finally broke her silence, standing up against keyboard warriors and sharing an extremely important message for fans of the Bachelor franchise, and that is to think before you type.

Taking the stage after her tear-jerking elimination, the Hawaii native almost instantaneously erupted in tears once again, sharing with Bachelor Joey Graziadei, host Jesse Palmer, and 16 of her fellow contestants — as well as viewers at home — some of the hateful things that viewers have been saying online about her race, culture, and overall identity.

“I’ve just been getting like a lot of hateful messages. As soon as the episode aired, there were a lot of like racist comments toward me and just, you know, calling me the N-word or calling me a jungle Asian, all because I got a rose. It’s just been very frustrating… My parents, they really enjoyed the little hometown episode, and then for them to just see people, you know, attacking our culture and attacking me. I’ve kind of been in this scenario before, but this is like a whole new level. It’s just hundreds of people messaging me stuff.”

Giving Rachel a moment to dry her tears and gather her thoughts, Jesse chimed in with a message to fans of the Bachelor franchise.

“This season of The Bachelor, the love for these women, for the most part, has been really remarkable, but for all of the love that Joey and these women have received, there’s also sadly been a noticeable rise in hate on social media… Here’s the thing, Bachelor Nation — We love your strong opinions, but I think it’s so important that we uplift these women who are brave enough to be vulnerable and to share their stories with Joey and with all of us at home. “From there, we talked like that for a week or two, and we realized we had so much in common and liked all the same silly things, like Tenacious D. She was like, ‘I actually have tickets to see them next week in Nashville,’ and asked if I wanted to go see them with her. I ended up buying a ticket to go see her, meet her in person, and go to the show. It was amazing! She had to pick me up incognito at the airport and it was the funniest thing ever. We just instantly clicked. We had been talking for a couple of weeks, but there was no awkwardness at all in person and we just flowed the entire time.”

After the concert, Bowers and Mandrell committed to a long distance relationship, going back and forth to visit each other in California and Tennessee, along with FaceTiming every single day. Now, Bowers has plans to move to Nashville on January 6 to live with Mandrell and her daughter before tying the knot sometime in the near future.

To make the night even better, the fan-favorite team dances will return to our television screens, with Team 4 Everybody (consisting of Alyson and Sasha, Ariana and Pasha, Jason and Daniella, and Barry and Peta) dancing to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by the Backstreet Boys, and Team Young’n Style (consisting of Xochitl and Val, Lele and Brandon, Charity and Artem, and Harry and Rylee) dancing to “Gangnam Style” by PSY.

Whichever team has the best dance will have additional points added to their overall score for the evening, so the stakes are definitely at an all time high.

To top off everything “Music Video Night” has in store for Dancing With The Stars fans from coast to coast, world-renowned singer, dancer, and choreographer Paula Abdul will Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli as a special guest judge.

Bachelor in Paradise fans woke up feeling a bit like we’d been put through the wringer, experiencing a hangover without having taken a drink. This was thanks to the dramatics of Kat Izzo, Brayden Bowers, and the visit from fan-favorite Charity Lawson. 

This season of Paradise might as well be tag-lined “it’s the producers against everyone,” because we’ve never seen so much seemingly intentional gasoline added to a fire, and that only escalated when Lawson walked down the steps onto the sand and wowed everyone there — well, almost everyone.

As viewers know, many contestants on this season of BIP are from Lawson’s season, and one of her exes was less than excited to see her the ranks this season. So why, exactly, was Lawson suddenly walking into Paradise? What does it mean for the men she used to date, and will we ever get a night of restful sleep after watching a Bachelor Nation series? 

Let’s take a look. 

Why did Charity Lawson show up in Paradise?

First things first: Lawson didn’t come to paradise looking for love; she’s still going strong with Dotun Olubeko, the man who stole her heart during season 20 of The Bachelorette. So you can feel relief in knowing that, much like Hanna Brown’s appearance at the beach this season, it’s a bit more complex than just another addition to single hopefuls looking for romance.

In seeing the cast of BIP this season, Lawson realized that many of her friends were spending time down at the beach, and knowing her girls were going to be searching for love with some of her exes, she wanted to get the scoop, and spill some tea. One Paradise dweller was particularly bummed about her visiting the beach, and that was Aaron Bryant. Many viewers had mixed feelings about Bryant on his journey with Lawson, but things ended up on okay with them, as Lawson notes when she speaks to Jesse Palmer upon arriving in Paradise.

Of course, things aren’t always what they seem, and Charity shares that she heard some things about him in the following weeks and months — things that led her to question his motives, and he seems to be someone Lawson is eager to talk about in Paradise. If you were watching Bachelor Nation last night, it likely angered you to no end that The Golden Bachelor and BIP both ended on significant cliffhangers, and for BIP, that meant that we only saw Lawson begin talking to Bryant’s current beau, Eliza Isichei. 

Audiences did know what that conversation might look like, however, as we also saw Izzo continue stirring the pot last night by telling Isichei that Lawson had warned her off of Bryant, too. So why would Lawson be warning her friends about Bryant? Well, as he explained to Isichei; his dating history was a bit complex in the months leading up to paradise:  

“I just want to be truthful and let you know exactly what I’m going through. So I had an ex last year, we broke up in August right before her birthday because of the toxicity in our relationship. She’s been trying to put my name out there because she thinks that I broke up with her to go on the show, when the truth is, I had not been talking to her since August. I got the call in December. I was seeing someone else at the time and she ended things in October. I actually, she stopped seeing me.”

He continued by saying that rumors were swirling that he’d been the one to end a relationship because he wanted to go out for BIP, but that there was no truth to them. Of course, this left Isichei questioning things, but she really wanted only one thing — to get the truth from Lawson herself. As we all know, in Paradise — if you ask, you shall receive — unless you’re us asking Brayden to treat Rachel right, or Izzo asking for a great birthday, that is. 

Bryant confronted Izzo on the beach as we saw flashes of Lawson and Isichei begin talking, and then — things quickly ended. That’s right, viewers saw a preview for next week’s episode where things will only grow far more dramatic than they’ve been — and we’re about up to here with the drama this season!

Bryant questions Lawson’s intent to ruin things for him; Isichei looks like she may be tethered between opening her heart and closing it forever, and Izzo seems like she’s put her claws so far into John Henry that she’s forgotten that he’s partnered up with someone else. Things are getting messy in Paradise, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings; in the same breath, we hope it’s some amount of solace for a few of these hopefuls. We really did like where things were going for Bryant and Isichei, and we hope there’s some truth to be uncovered in their situation that allows them to move forward together in a more vulnerable and trusting nature. 

Someone has to leave Paradise happy …right?

The singles in season 9 of Bachelor in Paradise are off to a running start in their search for love, and the arrival of John Henry Spurlock in episode 4 certainly shook things up. Now fans want to know everything about the hunky newbie, including how tall he is.

Who is John Henry Spurlock?

John Henry Spurlock was a contestant on the 20th season of The Bachelorette featuring Charity Lawson, which premiered on June 26, 2023. You may him for stepping out of the limo on day one wearing a scuba diving helmet. The 31-year-old Wilmington, North Carolina native was eliminated in the second week, but has since reemerged for the current season of Bachelor in Paradise.

While there’s no official record of John Henry’s height, an amalgamation of estimates from a number of different publications have the reality star standing around 6 feet tall. More than his height captured everyone’s attention when he arrived in paradise, though. All that time he spends in the gym seems to be paying off, and the other singles certainly noticed!
