But also, who isn't facing extinction from the Minions at this point?]]>
<![CDATA[

No matter how incompatible your personal tastes might be with his work, it’s impossible to deny the impact that Christopher Nolan has made and continues to make in a cinematic landscape forever changed by COVID-19 and the rise of the nostalgia market. Even now, with a box office that bows almost exclusively to fandom films, Nolan is still capable of pulling massive audiences with his standalone juggernauts, the next of which will be an adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. 6s233u

But it was Interstellar that marked the beginning of the latest and greatest Nolan era as the first film to follow the conclusion of his Dark Knight trilogy. Since then, Nolan’s films have flourished on the back of his singular impulses more than ever, and try as some folks might, the effectiveness and perseverance of his style is undeniable.

And the Netflix charts would agree. Per FlixPatrol, Interstellar is currently the eighth most-watched film on the United States’ Netflix film charts at the time of writing, though it seems to be having a tough time keeping up with a fifth-place Despicable Me and a sixth-place Despicable Me 2. Indeed, depending on the day, even IMAX-worthy spectacle will struggle against the calculated gibberish of Universal’s one-eyed merchandising critters.

Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey as Joseph Cooper, a former NASA pilot living on a dystopian, blight-ridden Earth who’s recruited for a mission through space in the hopes of finding a new home for mankind. A wormhole just might lead him to the answers he’s looking for, but perhaps those answers are closer to home than he initially realized.

Nolan famously forgoes immediately comprehensible logic for the sake of a viscerally cinematic experience if need be, and Interstellar is certainly one such case. The awe-inspiring biomes, scientific density, and existential girth of Interstellar makes for a particularly chunky soup that doesn’t easily accommodate the film’s plot (or, depending on who you ask, the film’s xerox of a plot).

In this way, however, Nolan’s filmmaking method fundamentally challenges the way that most people tend to watch movies, and arguably invites viewers to actively think about how they watch movies, and how they can change those habits. With that in mind, Interstellar is perhaps the quintessential Christopher Nolan film, as it prompts us to think about ourselves and our place in the universe, and how we’re capable of addressing our relationship to our existence, just as Nolan’s style prompts us to reconsider our relationship to watching a film.

As for how exactly Interstellar does that, there’s perhaps no better example than this quote on love from Anne Hathaway’s character, Dr. Amelia Brand: “Maybe it’s some evidence, some artifact of a higher dimension that we can’t consciously perceive. I’m drawn across the universe to someone I haven’t seen in a decade, who I know is probably dead. Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can’t understand it.”

Quick, someone ask him about ‘Wicked’ vs. ‘Gladiator 2!’]]>
<![CDATA[

You wouldn’t think of King Charles as the kind of guy to be a movie buff, and yet it seems the U.K. monarch still manages to find time during his busy schedule to sit down and watch some spectacular kino. Perhaps it’s his way of escaping all the royal drama that’s constantly going on.

Director Christopher Nolan and his wife, film producer, Emma Thomas, both recently received a knighthood and a damehood from the king for their contributions to film, ing other honorees like Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1917), Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Blitz), and Stephen Frears (The Queen, Victoria & Abdul).

Not only did the pair get the chance to meet and have a conversation with Charles, but he also confirmed that he had indeed seen Nolan’s latest film, Oppenheimer, and that he very much enjoyed it. Speaking on the matter, Thomas said, “He’d seen Oppenheimer, and he liked it, so that was very gratifying to hear.” Clearly, Charles is a fan of Nolan and Thomas’ work – sorry to disappoint the Barbie fans out there.

Like most, Charles was a big fan of Oppenheimer 5x4c6p

The 3-hour-long biopic starring Cillian Murphy recounts the life story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist responsible for the creation of the nuclear bomb. It makes sense that the king would like it, considering the film received near universal praise upon its release last year.

Oppenheimer was nominated for 13 Oscars and took home seven, including the big one — Best Picture — as well as statuettes for Nolan, Thomas, their leading man, and Robert Downey Jr. in the ing Actor category. It’s arguably one of Nolan’s most successful movies to date, and half of one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of the 2020s.

Revealing more about their discussion with Charles, Nolan commented on how it felt knowing the king had seen their movies.

It was very nice that he knew our work and was aware of it, and, yes, he was hoping that I would take this as encouragement to do more of it.”

Now I want to know if Charles has seen the rest of Nolan’s filmography. It’s hard to imagine him sitting down and watching The Dark Knight trilogy. Was he able to wrap his head around Inception? What did he think of Tenet? Has he seen Memento? All questions that need answering.

Anyway, there you have it, King Charles is an Oppenheimer boy, his words of praise towards Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas reveal which side of the camp he’s on in regard to the Barbenheimer debate. However, it’s not actually been confirmed whether or not he’s even seen the Barbie movie. It doesn’t really seem like his sort of thing, but then again we can’t judge a book by its cover, maybe he did see Barbie, and maybe he really liked it too.

Despite Oppenheimer generally receiving a more positive reception than the competition, let’s not forget that Barbie did incredibly well too, receiving a ton of positive attention. On top of that, Greta Gerwig’s movie about the world’s most famous doll was commercially more successful than Nolan’s magnum opus, making $1.45 billion worldwide.

Hollywood gets stranger by the day.]]>
<![CDATA[

Guy Pearce requires no introduction to film connoisseurs. As one of Christopher Nolan‘s earliest collaborators, many fans wonder why he hasn’t worked with the prestigious filmmaker again. Now, the reason has been revealed.

Previously, Pearce and Nolan teamed up for 2000’s Memento. The neo-noir thriller, which is based on a short story written by Nolan’s brother Jonathan, captivated the world and turned the entertainment industry onto Nolan’s talents as an filmmaker. Five years later, the director tackled Batman Begins and his career’s trajectory shot straight to the stars.

At the time of Memento‘s release, Guy Pearce was no newcomer to the movie scene. He’d already caught the attention in films such as The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and L.A. Confidential, with Memento only solidifying his status as one of the best actors of his generation. His career didn’t stall there either, as he went on to appear in everything from Prometheus and Iron Man 3. Strangely, Pearce and Nolan never worked together again after Memento. Considering how the British-born filmmaker tends to cast the same group of actors across multiple projects, this raised eyebrows. Was there perhaps behind-the-scenes tension between Nolan and Pearce on Memento‘s set?

Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby reading in Memento
Image via Newmarket

As it turns out, no. Pearce sat down with Vanity Fair and revealed he was in the running to play Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins and Nolan wanted him for The Prestige too. He said:

“There was an executive at Warner Bros. who quite openly said to my agent, ‘I don’t get Guy Pearce. I’m never going to get Guy Pearce. I’m never going to employ Guy Pearce.’ So, in a way, that’s good to know. I mean, fair enough; there are some actors I don’t get. But it meant I could never work with Chris.”

Pearce explained how he was flown over to London, England to discuss the role of Ra’s al Ghul, but when he arrived, it had already been decided he wasn’t going to be in the movie. The part went to Liam Neeson. Instead, Pearce ended up going for dinner with Nolan, who also offered to show him the Batmobile.

Expectedly, the internet is shook by the news. One commentator on X wrote, “I need Luigi Mangione to take care of that executive asap.” Others couldn’t believe that Warner Bros. would be that shortsighted about Pearce’s talents. Of course, there was the odd lickspittle or two in the comments who decided to stand up for Warner Bros. and be a good little studio bot.

Pearce’s revelation showcases the wild nature of Hollywood, though. Often, all it takes is one narrow-minded studio executive to take a dislike to an actor and it is curtains for them. Pearce could have played a major part in the Nolanverse and countless other Nolan films such as Inception, Interstellar, and The Prestige, but someone with terrible taste in actors prevented it. This coming from the same studio that cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a few years later.

That said, there’s hope on the horizon that Guy Pearce and Christopher Nolan could team up again in the near future. Since Nolan’s no longer exclusive to Warner Bros., it’s possible that the pair could work on something else again – unless some other brain-rotted studio executive decides to interfere there as well.

10 years later moviegoers still love this great sci-fi story.]]>
<![CDATA[

Christopher Nolan has made one hit movie after another — with his most recent success story being 2023’s Oppenheimer — but many years before that arrived, he released a sci-fi masterpiece called Interstellar. Now a decade later, the movie is back in theaters and enjoying a second lease of life with great success.

Interstellar is a movie about preserving the future of mankind as scientists seek a new home for humanity as the Earth’s future looks to be an inevitable death. In the leading role, Matthew McConaughey plays NASA pilot Cooper, who ventures into a wormhole to see what planet would be right for the survival of mankind.

On Dec. 6, 2024, Interstellar returned to theaters for its 10th-anniversary screenings exclusively on IMAX. Over the weekend it set the record for the largest post-Thanksgiving weekend in IMAX history, proving that even 10 years later, people still love this film with as much enthusiasm as they did a decade ago.

Over the weekend, Interstellar earned $13 million globally despite the fact that theaters are already stacked with a whole selection of other megahits at the moment. Showing alongside the classic Nolan flick are Gladiator 2, Wicked, and the newly released animated hit Moana 2. Domestically, Interstellar earned $4.5 million during the weekend selling out several of its show times. Thanks to this success, there have now been new showings added to allow fans who missed out initially to have the chance to see the movie on an IMAX screen.

Which is perhaps the best way to view the cinematic spectacle that is a Nolan film. Interstellar was a success when it was first released in theaters back in 2014. The movie initially earned more than $681 million, however, since it has been re-released several times over the years, that number has been propelled to box office earnings of an incredible $736 million. That’s enough to fly to another planet and back again.

It’s not just a box office darling. Interstellar is also a success on the rewards front. The movie has been nominated for more than 100 awards and secured 44 of them. The biggest of these was the Oscar for Visual Effects back in 2015.

Since Interstellar, Nolan has crafted plenty more award-winning movies including Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer. However, the legendary filmmaker is currently working on a new project that looks to bring a ton of popular actors to the screen in one starry ensemble.

Nolan’s secret project has already recruited Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Anne Hathaway, but we don’t even know what it’s about yet. Of course, having a great cast doesn’t mean a movie will be interesting, but given Nolan’s record of success, we’re excited to see what it is.

If you’re someone who has become familiar with Nolan for his newer filmography, Interstellar is definitely one to go back and watch, and the best part is that you don’t need to go to the movies to do it. Interstellar is available to enjoy streaming on Paramount Plus now.

For those who want to watch the movie in its IMAX glory, Interstellar will remain in theaters until Dec. 13, so you’ve got a few days to head out and enjoy the film in the absolute best quality that is available. You can find the best screening for you on the IMAX website here.

Christopher Nolan is asking all the hard questions about 'Dune' that everyone has pondered.]]>
<![CDATA[

After the marvels of Dune, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has legion of ers in his court, including fellow blockbuster director Christopher Nolan. However, there’s one aspect about the movie that mildly amused Nolan – and no, it isn’t the sandworm’s toothy grin.

For a book that many deemed unadaptable – and bless David Lynch for trying – Villeneuve proved the impossible possible by reimagining Frank Herbert’s Dune epic for the big screen. Oscar buzz follows in its wake, as many believe Dune: Part Two will be the film to secure Villeneuve his much-deserved Best Director trophy. Heck, Josh Brolin, who plays Gurney Halleck in the series, claims he’ll quit acting if Villeneuve doesn’t get nominated at the very least.

Brolin isn’t the only big Hollywood heavyweight lavishing praise on Villeneuve and Dune: Part Two, as Nolan heralded the motion picture during a recent For Your Consideration . Sitting in conversation with Villeneuve, Nolan told his peer: “I watched the second half [of Dune] and I think it’s a miraculous job of adaptation, of taking that second half and making an incredible conclusion of the story.”

However, Nolan couldn’t help but ask the question that probably every single person watching Dune has thought about before. He said: “I have a lot of questions about how you did that, starting with: Usul, Muad’Dib, Paul, Lisan al Gaib. How many f**king names can you give one character and expect us to keep up with it">helm the third film in the trilogy, Dune Messiah. Hopefully, Nolan has his notebook ready so that he’s able to jot down and keep track of all the different names for the characters.

Christopher Nolan is working on a new movie, and while we don’t know anything about its plot what is known is that it’s going to star a lot of the biggest working actors in Hollywood today, and now another has ed the cast.

Charlize Theron is the latest star to the cast of Nolan’s film, but again, what her role in the movie is hasn’t been shared, nor has any information about what the movie truly is. Yeah, it’s really being kept that secret, at least for now.

What we do know is that Theron s a cast stacked to the moon with talent. Previously announced names attached to Nolan’s movie have included Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Anne Hathaway. We expect you will already know who many of these actors are, and if we had to bet there will probably be even more giant names added to the cast in the future.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the leads in the film will be Damon, Holland, Hathaway, and Pattinson, while Nyong’o and Zendaya appear in ing roles. We’ll have to wait and see what this all means when more details on the project are unveiled.

Nolan will once again work with Universal after the partnership struck gold in 2024 with the release of Oppenheimer, which fell just short of the $1 billion dollar mark at the box office. It will be the second film for the pairing after Nolan’s public fallout with previous longtime studio partner Warner Bros. Perhaps this could mean Nolan has found a new home for all of his projects.

Alongside Nolan, the movie will be produced by his wife Emma Thomas. As far as release details, all that’s been shared is that Universal is targeting its release for July 17, 2026. It is expected to begin filming during the start of 2025. Of course, once production begins and we get closer to this date there should be more details revealed.

It’s not often that a film with this many big names attached continues to remain a secret. If you’ve seen any details floating around regarding the movie’s plot online so far then you can forget them, as sources who spoke to Deadline have confirmed that those loglines floating around online are wrong. In all fairness, this level of secrecy is only getting us more excited to see what it’s all about.

Nolan is coming off the back of one of his biggest films ever with Oppenheimer which continued a long string of hits for the director starting all the way back in 2000 with Memento. Safe to say this secret movie is in good hands.

After almost assembling the Avengers for his feature, Christopher Nolan has now hunted down a major DC member to the lead. Holland’s Spider-Man is going into every multiverse it seems.

After the flawless casting magic in Oppenheimer, it’s crystal clear that Christopher Nolan is a wizard at pulling actors from every universe and throwing them together in one mind-blowing ensemble. I mean, who would’ve ever thought Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. would make such a stellar pair? It was like a superhero met a Shakespearean and somehow, it worked wonders.

But for his next feature, Nolan is doing something everyone has been secretly rooting for—the Spider-Man alongside Batman. Well, not exactly that, but pretty close! Nolan has recently signed Robert Pattinson for his top-secret project which is already shaping up to be a masterpiece with a star-studded cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, and Nupita Nyong’o.

Though the details surrounding their roles are still locked in a vault somewhere, sources are spilling that Damon, Holland, Hathaway, and now Pattinson will be the core leads of the feature. (via The Hollywood Reporter) And with that, fans have officially shifted gears from shipping Holland and Zendaya on-screen to dreaming about the epic team-up of Holland and Pattinson.

There's no genre of film that Nolan cannot pull off with this cast.]]>
<![CDATA[

Christopher Nolan sets his films up for the Oscars stage right when he begins casting. But how is he getting EVERYONE on board? And can he please sign Chris Evans too?

After proving that Oppenheimer was a masterclass in star power by casting Robert Downey Jr., Nolan decided to double down on his MCU connections for his next top-secret project. Enters Tom Holland aka MCU’s current Spider-Man and the Ultimate Rizz Master, along with his lady love Zendaya. Because who wouldn’t want to rope in extra audiences with Hollywood’s hottest couple on screen together? And we heard Holland might be circling a lead role to boot (via Deadline).

But just when we thought this casting couldn’t get any juicier, Nolan has now signed the Academy Award-winning actress and fellow MCU veteran, Lupita Nyong’o, into this top-secret cinematic gem (via The Hollywood Reporter). The actress, who most recently acted in the alien invasion thriller A Quiet Place: Day One this past summer, has previously portrayed T’Challa’s ex-lover and Wakanda’s undercover spy Nakia in 2018’s Black Panther and its 2022 sequel, Wakanda Forever.

With the film’s MCU star count going up to three with her casting, one X joked “They assembling the Avengers for that.” But hey, Nolan’s picking the best of the lot. Nyong’o’s screen presence is such that she bagged the Academy Award for her very first feature film role as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s biopic 12 Years a Slave (2013). She was also named one of Africa’s 50 Most Powerful Women by Forbes in 2020 and has recently started her podcast, Mind Your Own, which navigates what it means to belong, told from the African perspective.

This brings us back to when we all thought “there’s no way Nolan can ever top this cast,” after he had brought together Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh for Oppenheimer. But look at him, never failing to prove us wrong for the good. Because just as soon as the Oppenheimer fire died down, Nolan is standing ready with a new script in hand, and an A-list cast that makes The Avengers look like a community theater production.

Nolan also previously roped in Anne Hathaway to add some more female star power to the film (via Deadline), making this her third collaboration with Nolan after 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises and 2014’s Interstellar. And one name that cannot be missing from Nolan’s cast—Matt Damon—also has his role confirmed, presumably in a lead capacity this time (via Deadline). Like Hathaway, this is also Damon’s third time working with Nolan after 2014’s Interstellar and 2023’s Oppenheimer.

Now having all that talent in one room, Nolan still hasn’t had a slip of a tongue of what the film would be about. All we know is that shooting is expected to begin in early 2025 and the film will have an Imax release on July 17, 2026. Some say the film will be Interstellar 2, but we’re not fueling the fire yet without confirmations from Universal or Nolan.

You probably caught him being a total heartthrob in Hit Man, Twisters, or Anyone But You, but Glen Powell has reflected on his lesser-known role in a superhero movie, one you probably forgot he was even in.

To shed light on this obscure role, I invite you to cast your mind back to 2012 when a younger (yet equally good-looking) Powell made an appearance in The Dark Knight Rises. If that revelation came as a shock, that’s probably because Powell’s role in the Batman film — the finale of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy — was brief, to the point where his character doesn’t even have a name and is simply credited as “Trader #1.” You can see him getting his head bonked against a desk by Bane at 1.33 in this video:

This pre-fame appearance saw Powell play a stock exchange trader who gets knocked out by Dark Knight Rises villain Bane, who is portrayed by Tom Hardy. Between Powell, Hardy, Christian Bale, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it seems Nolan has a penchant for casting anyone who has contributed to my gay awakening in the past couple of years. In any case, Powell looked back on his small yet impactful role in the Batman threequel in a recent profile for Vanity Fair

The actor said that despite it being a minor role, he still “[s] everything” about his experience while filming. “I on Dark Knight Rises the feeling of being able to walk onto a set and you knew everybody in the world wanted to be on that set,” Powell said. The actor went on to reveal that even though it was an unnamed character, he still “auditioned several times” for Trader #1 role. “I was getting to work with the greatest director on the planet, Christopher Nolan,” Powell said.

Naturally, having not yet reached the level of acclaim as his colleagues at the time, Powell’s experience on The Dark Knight Rises left him star-struck. “You’re sitting there and all of a sudden Tom Hardy walks in as Bane,” he said, describing his castmate’s presence as “electric” and “out-of-body.” The ever-humble superstar that he is, Powell went on to express gratitude for the role, which he said came at a time “when nothing was going on” in his life.

“I was just fighting for every inch,” Powell said, “and when Christopher Nolan casts you in his movie, it’s a validation that’s hard to explain.” Now, years later and at the height of his own success, Powell said he had since discussed the chance Nolan took on him with the director himself. “I’ve talked to Chris about this, we’ve run into each other at different things. I saw him during his amazing Oppenheimer run,” the actor recalled.

What did Nolan have to say all these years later and with a slew of blockbusters under Powell’s belt? “He’s very proud that he plucked me early,” Powell said, “I’m just very grateful that he took a shot.” As an interesting little aside, Powell isn’t the only star whose role in a superhero movie you may have forgotten, with Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, Bridesmaids’ Chris O’Dowd, and Olivia Munn taking on small roles in The Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 2, respectively.

Anyway, I’m off to watch Powell’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in The Dark Knight Rises, since no amount of screentime is too short for him.

Zendaya and Anne Hathaway reunite]]>
<![CDATA[

There’s no filmmaker of his generation that has mastered the art of mass-market spectacle like Christopher Nolan, and he’s officially back. This time with Zendaya and Anne Hathaway.

Recently, Deadline reported that Christopher Nolan is off the mark and he’s deep into casting his next film with exciting names trickling in slowly, and fans are understandably excited for what the filmmaker has in store for them. Initially, the information that came from industry insiders was that Tom Holland is going to co-star with frequent Christopher Nolan collaborator Matt Damon in a spiritual remake of the 1980s action thriller Blue Thunder about a specialized police helicopter.

But it wasn’t until recently that fans really started digesting which direction Nolan is going with this new film when it was announced that the film has also cast Zendaya and Anne Hathaway. The two had earlier appeared in a Paolo Sorrentino-directed Bvlgari commercial, where they were dressed in some of the most elegant gowns that have ever been sewn. Fittingly, in the comment section of the commercial on YouTube, there were fans who hoped that the two would one day appear in the same film. Well, on June 17, 2026, these fans will get their wish granted.

On the popular Ringer podcast, The Big Picture, the hosts also speculated about which direction Christopher Nolan might take with the premise of Matt Damon and Tom Holland flying a specialized helicopter. They joked that Nolan will stick to the themes he explored numerous times before — namely, time travel and a dead wife. It’s astounding when you start to actually think about how these themes heavily feature in Christopher Nolan films.

So perhaps either Zendaya or Anne Hathaway’s fate is determined in the film. Another direction Nolan might take in this yet-untitled film is to stack the cast full of marquee names, like he did in Oppenheimer or Inception. Fans are already making jokes about how sometimes these stars are underutilized in these films, and a fan took to Twitter to predict that Zendaya and Hathaway are only going to get two lines each.

Deadline, however, reiterates that all this leaking information about the nature of the film and the cast are just rumors for now, because Nolan has not confirmed a single thing. And we prefer it that way. Nolan is one of the few remaining filmmakers that still creates events around the release of his films, so we’d rather find out the full context inside the theater as Nolan intended.

Regardless of what the movie ends up being about, a new Nolan film in the pipeline is always cause for celebration. We’re especially happy for Tom Holland who, unlike the other of the cast named so far, hasn’t had too many films outside the Spider-Man series that were particularly successful at the box office. And if Nolan’s run is anything to go by, that will soon change. As for Zendaya, this might fully cement her as a movie star, as it might enable her to finally fully shed the image of her demanding role as Rue from Euphoria from fans’ minds.

It’s official, we’re not getting Marvel’s much-anticipated Blade reboot, after all. Well, at least for the time being. Disney has officially wiped the Mahershala Ali vehicle from its 2025 calendar, proving that Wesley Snipes’ wise Deadpool & Wolverine prophecy was as spot on as we feared. And, to rub salt in the (neck) wound, we have not one, but two MCU stars making vampire movies instead.

Yes, if I had a nickel for every time a Marvel veteran was announced to be starring in a vamp-flavored film while Marvel publicly and embarrassingly failed to make Blade, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice. The latest example of this unlikely trend concerns confirmed Spider-Man 4 protagonist Tom Holland, who we know is teaming up with Christopher Nolan for the Oppenheimer director’s next project.

While it’s yet to be announced, the word on the grapevine states that Nolan will be breaking out into the horror genre for the first time with his new film, as it’s rumored to be “a period horror about vampires in the 1920s.” In other words, it sounds like Nolan could be developing a kind of Interview with a Vampire for our times with Holland and Matt Damon in the leads.

The funny thing is, though, that Holland is not the first Marvel graduate to get a vampire movie off the ground while Blade remains trapped in its coffin. Black Panther‘s own Ryan Coogler is partnering up with Michael B. Jordan once again for their offering, Sinners. Ironically, this one already flipped Blade the bird when it swiped Delroy Lindo — who was supposed to appear opposite Ali in the film before he ditched it to work with Coogler instead.

Nolan vs. Coogler? The battle of the auteur vampire movie? Do we have a new Barbenheimer on our hands?

If the rumors are true and Nolan is realizing his own take on vampires while Coogler is doing the same, yet Marvel — who has a vast, pre-existing lore to draw from that does half the work for them — can’t make Blade… Well, that would just be the latest humiliation for an MCU movie that seems doomed to remain trapped in the ninth circle of development hell.

Putting the Blade of it all to the side for a second, though, can we all just appreciate these three beautiful words: vampire Tom Holland. Huge if true.

To be fair to Blade, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that Marvel could pull it together in the next couple of years and Ali’s version of the monster hunter finally sees the light of day as one of those three new MCU films Disney just scheduled for 2028. And yet, if both Nolan and Coogler manage to wow audiences and critics with their own stamps on the vampire genre, it might make Marvel’s already herculean task even more difficult. The stakes just got higher, you might say.

Tom Holland is reportedly in talks to star in Christopher Nolan’s next top secret movie, but will have to juggle the role with his concurrent filming schedule for Spider-Man 4

News broke on Oct. 21 that Nolan had tapped Holland to appear in the film, ing the already announced castmate and lead actor Matt Damon. We don’t yet know the title of the Nolan film — his first since the Oscar-winning blockbuster Oppenheimer — but sources claim the movie will not be set in the present day.

Whether that means it will take place in the past à la Dunkirk, or the future like Interstellar (if I understood that movie correctly) remains to be seen, but we do know the project will be written and directed by Nolan, and distributed by Universal Pictures.

The untitled movie also has a release date slated for July 17, 2026, so it will be some time before we see Holland in something other than that iconic web-slinging suit. On that front, it has been reported that Holland’s role in the Nolan movie will have to be managed alongside his obvious place in Spider-Man 4, the follow-up to the multiverse-crossing Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He’s the title character after all, so he can’t exactly call in sick and go to another gig, even if that gig is with one of Hollywood’s buzziest directors. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that in addition to the Spider-Man installment, the Nolan project might also be impacted by the filming scheduled for Avengers: Doomsday, the Robert Downey Jr.-starring vehicle which Holland will also likely appear in.

Those claims of both the official filming schedule for Spider-Man 4 and Holland’s role in Doomsday have not yet been officially confirmed, but they outline a pretty busy year for the actor if they do turn out to be true.

While managing a Marvel actor’s filming schedule might be the curse of directors like Martin Scorcese or Francis Ford Coppola — both of whom have denounced superhero movies — Nolan seems a little more sympathetic to the genre, not least because he helmed the Dark Knight franchise.

Just this year, the Inception director praised superhero movies for keeping cinemas afloat during the pandemic, going as far as “thank[ing] God for Marvel” movies. Meanwhile, Holland himself seems content continuing his Spider-Man streak, even with a role in a Nolan movie lined up.

“I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films,” Holland said in an interview earlier this year. “I owe my life and career to Spider-Man, so the simple answer is yes, I’ll always want to do more.” Both the Nolan project and Spider-Man 4 will arrive after a brief movie hiatus for Holland, who hasn’t appeared on the big screen since the 2022 action film Uncharted.

In other Spider-Man 4 news, Holland revealed earlier this month that while the scripts for the inevitable blockbuster aren’t finished, the early drafts “really lit a fire in me” when he read them with girlfriend and co-star Zendaya.

“[We] read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of fans’ respect.” Let’s see how it all pans out, but if anyone can juggle two blockbuster filming schedules, it’s the guy with spider-like reflexes and the Peter tingle.
