It looks like Robert Pattinson is continuing his streak of appearing in A+ movies as the actor is allegedly being eyed for a role in the Dune: Messiah. i2i4i

The third and final film in the Dune franchise will adapt the Frank Herbert novel of the same name. Director Denis Villeneuve will also be returning along with Timothée Chalamet in the lead. As if that wasn’t reason enough to be excited, now we’ve got Pattinson reportedly being eyed for a role.

The film will likely follow the plot of the second book in the series. Messiah picks up 12 years after the plot of Dune with Paul ruling as emperor and messiah to the Fremen. The film will likely follow a similar plot. Unfortunately we’ll have a bit of a wait until we can possibly see The Batman star arrive on Arrakis. Dune: Messiah is set to release in theaters next year on December 16.

What role will Robert Pattinson play? 2i6l4c

According to a report for The Hollywood Reporter, a source has claimed that Pattinson is being considered as the film’s chief villain. Personally I couldn’t think of anyone better suited to play the foil to Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. We could possibly see the actor as Scytale, a character from Herbert’s books who has yet to make an appearance in the film adaptations. However, this has not been confirmed.

Pattinson apparently hasn’t been made an offer yet, so this is far from a done deal. But he would certainly make a fantastic addition to the cast. The actor has proven himself to be more than capable of taking on any role. His recent double role in Mickey 17 has further solidified him as a truly generational actor.

He might be a little busy 661d3w

But as great as it would be to see Pattinson in the next Dune movie, he has a pretty busy schedule. He’s reuniting with director Christopher Nolan for his Greek epic, The Odyssey, which is expected to release Summer 2026. Meanwhile, there’s also the much anticipated Batman sequel which is due to start filming later this year. Robert is in high demand in Hollywood and it’s difficult to imagine him finding the time to work on another big project like Dune: Messiah amidst everything else.

But maybe, if the stars align, we’ll get a collaboration between Villeneuve and Pattinson. The director has worked with numerous talented actors before, but we have yet to see this particular pairing. Even if we don’t get Robert Pattinson in the third Dune film, we can still hope to see him in another Villeneuve project later on.

Quentin Tarantino actually has a point, sometimes.]]>
<![CDATA[

Quentin Tarantino has had some bonkers takes over the years. From the diminutive, like saying he didn’t buy that Martin Scorsese was shocked by audiences celebrating the violence in Taxi Driver, to the confusing, like claiming he doesn’t consider George Clooney a movie star, to the funny, like insisting he looks like George Clooney. And then there are the absolute unconscionable takes, such as defending Roman Polanski against his rape charge involving a 13-year-old because they were “dating.”

Tarantino has delivered horrible takes throughout his 30-plus-year career, but every so often, he makes a good point — of course, between crafting generation-defining movies. This time, Tarantino caught the wrath of the internet for expressing his enjoyment of Joker: Folie à Deux. During his appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino shared that he liked the film’s musical scenes, praised Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as the best he’s ever seen, and felt flattered by the movie drawing inspiration from Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, a film he wrote. Tarantino even remarked that the Joker sequel was the kind of movie he dreamed of seeing made from his script.

Now, of course, we disagree. Joker: Folie à Deux struggles to balance painting a sympathetic figure of its lead, while simultaneously critiquing the audience that embraced the original film. The sequel fails at serving both these masters. That aside, Tarantino is right: he still has every right to enjoy whatever movie he chooses. Variety reports that during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, he went on a profanity-laden mini-tirade, assuring everyone that he will, in fact, continue liking whatever he chooses regardless of what people say about him in the comment sections of articles reporting the story and that we can all do the same, saying, “You read the comments: ‘Quentin is a f-cking asshole. That movie f-cking sucks. He’s a f-cking asshole for saying that.’ Why am I a f-cking asshole? I liked the f-cking movie! That makes me a f-cking asshole? You either like the movie or you don’t.”

Tarantino also addressed criticism for not watching Dune, saying, “Then they’ll say I’m a f-cking asshole for not seeing something — what the f-ck do you care what I see or don’t see?” This stance is a bit bizarre, given that he was railing against franchise filmmaking when he made that claim, arguing that Dune exemplifies an era dominated by endless remakes. Even if we’re being generous, Joker is undoubtedly part of a franchise, while also borrowing heavily from Scorsese classics, and the sequel takes inspiration from Tarantino’s own work. So it’s not exactly breathtaking for its originality. Regardless, he’s right — nobody can watch everything. That said, his apparent issue with Denis Villeneuve fimmaking seems rooted in something deeper than he’s letting on.

At the end of the day, we’d all prefer to hear Tarantino sharing his thoughts on what constitutes a good movie rather than his views on other subjects. This is clearly his realm, and even when he’s wrong — and he is wrong on these two particular film takes — his opinions are harmless and often fascinating. Especially now as Tarantino nears his contentious retirement, it would be nice to have a figure like him continue guiding movie lovers worldwide on what to watch, even if those films are no longer his own.

Tarantino’s recent media appearances have been to promote The Video Archives Podcast, which he co-hosts with Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary. The podcast, where they always bicker over movies, is a genuinely fun listen for cinephiles.

<![CDATA[

Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune films are not just a triumph for the director but a much-needed gift for audiences craving epic cinema. But what’s next for Villeneuve? Well, he’s sworn off doing the only project fans demand.

Denis Villeneuve was already an excellent filmmaker before the Dune movies came out and launched him to wider recognition. But way before everything, he was a teenager with a love of cinema—especially a franchise that shaped all our childhoods. So, if you get a chance to step into the same world you once ired and create something of your own, you’d jump right into it no? Well, Villeneuve won’t.

In a recent chat with The Town Podcast, Villeneuve revealed that the Star Wars movies went through his “brain like a silver bullet” and had him obsessed with the galaxy-wide adventures of Jedi at just 10 years old. However, his love for the franchise only lasted five years, and in his words, “It all derailed in 1983 with Return of the Jedi.” Even though wider discourse agrees that this third film was a significant downgrade in comparison to A New Hope (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980), the film caused Villeneuve an ick for the franchise.

“I was 15 years old, and my best friend and I wanted to take a cab and go to L.A. and talk to George Lucas — we were so angry! Still today, the Ewoks. It turned out to be a comedy for kids.” (via THR)

Turns out that George Lucas could not stand tall on the expectations of the 15-year-old Villeneuve, and now the whole world has to take the fall for it. So 40 years ago, our beloved Villeneuve resolved to stay away from the franchise. Though we’re sure he must have still kept up with the films in secret, he very clearly announced that he no longer dreams of making a Star Wars film.

Star Wars became crystallized in its own mythology, very dogmatic, it seemed like a recipe, no more surprises. So I’m not dreaming to do a Star Wars because it feels like code is very codified.”

So, Villeneuve isn’t going anywhere near the Stars, not even Star Trek as he bluntly stated, “I’m not a Trekkie.” While he’s open to exploring another Dune sequel, the director made it clear he’s steering clear of franchise projects. Instead, Villeneuve plans to focus on original, unique films moving forward — and honestly, we’re all for it. After all, Villenueve’s pre-Dune movies like Arrival (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) were a breath of fresh air that we won’t mind getting again.

Villeneuve made another bold statement before ending the podcast, announcing that he would rather not work with streaming giants like Netflix and instead make movies for the big screen only.

“The big screen is part of the language, to share a story together, to receive the communal emotional experience of cinema in a theater. We’re not meant to be alone, we’re meant to share together. … I believe the theater experience will prevail.”

This goes in line with the warning The Shawshank Redemption actor Tim Robbins shared a few days ago about how the future of cinema is in danger because of streaming services like Netflix that do not promote original or visionary filmmaking. Jon Watts also recently shared how he no longer trusts Apple’s streaming service, causing the demise of his Wolfs sequel. So, it’s high time we bring the real cinematic experience back, and Villeneuve might be the perfect guy for the job.

Christopher Nolan is asking all the hard questions about 'Dune' that everyone has pondered.]]>
<![CDATA[

After the marvels of Dune, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has legion of ers in his court, including fellow blockbuster director Christopher Nolan. However, there’s one aspect about the movie that mildly amused Nolan – and no, it isn’t the sandworm’s toothy grin.

For a book that many deemed unadaptable – and bless David Lynch for trying – Villeneuve proved the impossible possible by reimagining Frank Herbert’s Dune epic for the big screen. Oscar buzz follows in its wake, as many believe Dune: Part Two will be the film to secure Villeneuve his much-deserved Best Director trophy. Heck, Josh Brolin, who plays Gurney Halleck in the series, claims he’ll quit acting if Villeneuve doesn’t get nominated at the very least.

Brolin isn’t the only big Hollywood heavyweight lavishing praise on Villeneuve and Dune: Part Two, as Nolan heralded the motion picture during a recent For Your Consideration . Sitting in conversation with Villeneuve, Nolan told his peer: “I watched the second half [of Dune] and I think it’s a miraculous job of adaptation, of taking that second half and making an incredible conclusion of the story.”

However, Nolan couldn’t help but ask the question that probably every single person watching Dune has thought about before. He said: “I have a lot of questions about how you did that, starting with: Usul, Muad’Dib, Paul, Lisan al Gaib. How many f**king names can you give one character and expect us to keep up with it">helm the third film in the trilogy, Dune Messiah. Hopefully, Nolan has his notebook ready so that he’s able to jot down and keep track of all the different names for the characters.

Thanks to Denis Villeneuve’s highly marketable Dune franchise, the spice to Frank Herbert’s ambitious world is flowing. There have been many attempts to peddle the sci-fi series to the masses, and it looks like this one is sticking.

As fans wait in anticipation for the imminent Dune sequel modeled after Dune Messiah, there is some new content to look forward to. Dune: Prophecy is the newest content set in the world of the Imperium, scheduled to debut in November. The series focuses on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the cabal of female magic s who intend to guide the politics of the universe.

The trailer follows two Harkonnen sisters, Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams). They don’t sport the sparse hair that is common on Geidi Prime in the current films, but they are interested in maintaining control. This desire to be at the seat of power never leaves the Harkonnen family. 10,000 years later, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) plots to control Arrakis and its spice mines. As the saying goes, whoever controls spice, controls the universe.

The trailer implies that these controlling desires stretch back thousands of years. But Valya and her Sisterhood have more to worry about than controlling the Emperor (Mark Strong). A new player comes onto the scene who vows to destroy their plans. Valya finds the main opposition to her work is Desmond Hart (Travis Flammel). He promises to wipe out the Bene Gesserit and their plans to influence everything in the universe.

“I see the corruption in your heart. The same way I see the blood trailing your every step,” he says ominously in the trailer. He insinuates to the Emperor that he has some mystical power that allows him to confront the Sisters. But he will meet one tough customer in Valya. Watson told Deadline that her character has a complex backstory that informs her character.

“What was really delicious to me as an actor about coming into this world was that these women are from a truly, truly, recognizably messed-up family. They’ve had an awful childhood and it’s sort of propelled them away. And nothing, nothing in this world is good and bad; everything is compromised and strange, and yet what Valya Harkonnen sets her sights on is really determining the right path for humankind. That’s her ambition.”

She also knows enough to keep her true intentions close to the vest.

“I run a school for young women. We’re not a threat to anyone,” she proclaims to him innocently. In contradictory scenes in the trailer, she uses the Voice to control those around her while using a blade for bloody satisfaction. Harkonnens are one of the biggest threats in Dune and Dune: Prophecy is just the beginning.

Harkonnens are major players in Dune 2f6l1

In the current timeline of the series, the Baron may be dead, but his genetics live on. Rebecca Ferguson’s Jessica is part of this order and the secret child of Baron Harkonnen. Somehow, she is even more ambitious than her father, pushing her son, Paul (Timotheé Chalamet) to accept his fate as the Kwisatz Haderach. Her tenacity practically stretches back in time to her foremothers and their intentions for the Bene Gesserit.

Like Jessica, the women in the series know how to plan several moves in advance. They keep their aspirations a secret but are undoubtedly just the first dominos to fall in Paul’s conception. Though Mother Superior (Charlotte Rampling) urges Jessica to only give birth to girls, she gives Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) a son, which in turn makes the Lisan al Gaib come a generation too soon. The Imperium waits for bated breath to see how Paul will lead them down down Golden Path. But until then, viewers can watch how it all started when Dune: Prophecy airs on November 17 on Max.

Denis Villeneuve has been living and breathing Dune for the better part of the last eight years. What started as a teenage obsession with Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel, has become an epic cinematic journey, and Dune 3 couldn’t come any sooner.

After bringing Dune and Dune: Part Two to the big screen, the Canadian director finally took some much-needed time off. Or at least, that was the plan. His idea of a “break” involved what he referred to as “going into the woods.” But, as it turns out, the wilderness didn’t keep him away for long. Villeneuve is back with some exciting updates on the highly anticipated third installment of the series.

Where we last left off 63z3x

Back in September, Villeneuve gave fans a sneak peek into his creative process during an interview with Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men. Even though he is juggling multiple projects—an adaptation of the sci-fi novel Rendezvous with Rama and a film about Cleopatra—he’s been focusing on Dune: Messiah, and is already in the process of writing the script. This installment will be based on Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, which Villeneuve envisions as the final chapter in the franchise.

This third film will continue the story of Paul Atreides, but Villeneuve has made it clear that he doesn’t see the three films as a traditional trilogy. To him, Dune and Dune: Part Two are a “diptych,” meaning they work together as two halves of one complete story. But Dune: Messiah will be its own unique beast, something that stands apart. Furthermore, Villeneuve emphasized that he wants the third film to feel different, and with its own identity, so fans can expect a fresh take when the time comes.

Are we out of the woods yet"> 5vp3s

Let’s say that I thought that after Part Two that I would take a break, that I will go back in the woods and stay in the woods for a while to recover. But the woods weren’t really suiting me, and I would go back behind the camera faster than I think.

While fans might still have to wait for concrete start dates, it’s clear that Villeneuve is eager to return to the world of Dune sooner rather than later. Therefore, diehard fans can rest easy knowing that the story isn’t over. And with Villeneuve at the helm, the next chapter is bound to be something special.

All good things must come to an end, even the best Marvel love story ever told. Venom: The Last Dance will regretably be the last entry into the Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom saga.

Arguably the only decent Sony franchise film, Venom was first released in 2018 before the Morbius and Madame Web debacle. The film portrays a struggling reporter, Eddie, with canonically no connection to Spider-Man, who becomes a host from an alien goo from space. Venom is ravenous and morally grey, but through his relationship with Eddie, the two become better people for it. Or, one better person, and one better parasitic alien. Their dynamic is genuinely touching, which makes the third film in the trilogy bittersweet. The only solace fans will have is a themed popcorn bucket of their very own when the film hits theaters.

Is the Venom popcorn bucket available yet? 21k3f

In recent years, popcorn buckets have become more and more popular. Though always a part of the movie-going experience, viral popcorn buckets like the Dune creation created a cultural moment. The receptacle was made in the form of the enormous sandworm, Shai-hulud, and it didn’t take long for those with their mind in the gutter to think of other uses for the bucket. The release of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s addition doubled down on the suggestive nature, as only a piece of Deadpool merchandise can do. No one can say if the Venom bucket will discourage creative thinking, but at the very least, movie-goers can fit their hands to retrieve kernels of popcorn relatively easily. The teeth alone will hopefully be a deterrent for those NSFW minds.

If fans are looking to get a jump on their Venom shopping, they may have to swallow some disappointment. Though the announcement for the popcorn bucket was released, there was no confirmation when the merchandise would drop, or for how much money. Popcorn buckets are high commodities so the theaters may be keeping this one close to the vest. As the new movie will release in October, it’s safe to say that fans won’t have to wait too long for the bucket — or news on the newest villain in the Sony universe.

From the promotional material released so far, fans have put together that the final boss in the Venom franchise will be none other than world-killer, Knull. Marvel fans will probably know him best as the creator of the All-Black, or the Necrosword featured in Thor: Love and Thunder. Though not pictured in the divisive Taika Waititi film, his fingerprints are all over the Marvel universe. Knull is responsible for creating the symbiotes as a way to destroy entire planets. His crimes were many, condemning him to a prison. By the looks of The Last Dance, he is out and now every symbiote far and wide is fleeing in any direction they can reach. There is no official word on who will be portraying the iconic villain, but anticipation is high for the third film in the saga. Fans will have to wait for that and the popcorn bucket when the film hits theaters in October.

Everything you need to know before the show comes out.]]>
<![CDATA[

Prequels can be pretty hit or miss. For every The Godfather: Part II we’re also stuck with a Solo: A Star Wars Story. The idea for a prequel is always an easy sell, though. You’re in the same universe as a beloved franchise, and sometimes even with the same characters. That’s what we’re dealing with in Dune: Prophecy, a series set “10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.” The main character of the show is Valya Harkonnen, played by the excellent Emily Watson.

The trailer for Dune: Prophecy gives us our best look at Valya, as well as what the show is going to focus on. Besides Valya, we also meet her sister Tula, and together they create the Bene Gesserit, a sisterhood with the mission manipulating breeding of royals until the chosen one is born – known as the Kwisatz Haderach. He would eventually rule the universe and the idea was he would be under Bene Gesserit control. It’s more complicated than that but that’s all you really need to know.

In Dune, Paul Atreides becomes the chosen one, but he rebels and the Bene Gesserit lose control of their breeding program. The story of Valya Harkonnen is the beginning of this process, and it tells the story of her eventual rise to Mother Superior, the leader of the Bene Gesserit. Because it’s set so far in the past, we’re not going to get any cameos from any Dune characters, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

This essentially gives showrunner Alison Schapker a lot of space to create a world with the same aesthetics as the movie but without having to be bound by its plot. Let’s take a closer look at Valya and the universe of Dune: Prophecy.

Who was Valya Harkonnen? 4q6s30

Warning: The following may contain unintended spoilers for the Valya Harkonnen storyline in Dune: Prophecy, so read at your own risk.

Valya Harkonnen was a member of House Harkonnen from the ice-choked planet of Lankiveil. She went from humble beginnings to become the Mother Superior (the most senior sister) of the Bene Gesserit, a name she coined. She was one of the first Reverend Mothers (an advanced level Bene Gesserit sister) ever.

If you’ve seen the movie or read the Frank Herbert novels, you know that Paul Atreides’ mother Jessica Atreides was a Reverend Mother of the Bene Gesserit. Valya was the first of that lineage. You’ve probably also noticed the Harkonnen connection. Valya’s story shows just how deep the rift between House Harkonnen and House Atreides really is, and how it started thousands of years before Paul faced off with Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen to become the emperor.

When Valya was young, House Harkonnen had fallen into disrepair, and she blamed that on Paul’s ancestor Vorian Atreides, who bested the Harkonnens during the Battle of Corrin. He was also the first one to use the name Atreides and the one who established house Atreides into one of the great houses. Her whole life she planned revenge, and she even taught her siblings Griffin and Tula that they had to eradicate house Atreides once and for all.

Tula will appear in the new series played by Olivia Williams (The Crown). Valya began her rise when she ed the Sisterhood of Rossak (the pre Bene Gesserit sisterhood), where she was a gifted student of Mother Superior Raquella Berto-Anirul.

She became one of the most trusted sisters and was taught many of the sisterhood secrets. She was told by Raquella to spy on her fellow sister Dorotea (who will appear in Dune: Prophecy as Reverend Mother, played by Camilla Beeput). Dorotea steals the Rossak Drug (a poison similar to the water of life) and takes it, while Valya only pretends to do so. Dorotea survives and eventually becomes a Reverend Mother.

There are two more important things you need to know about Valya. She was a trained Swordmaster, a task she took on to help the sisterhood cause, but really to kill Vorian. This makes her just as deadly in battle as she is using the voice. Ah yes, the voice. It was used sparingly in the newer movies but it’s a powerful Bene Gesserit tool used to mentally control others. Valya developed the voice herself, and if you Paul’s mother Jessica used it on occasion to control people and get her way.

Later in life, Mother Superior Raquella was dying and wanted Valya and Dorothea to be co-leaders of the sisterhood to settle the rift between them and the sisterhood as a whole. However, Valya used the voice to force Dorotea to commit suicide and she became the sole Reverend Mother Superior, and eventually renamed the sisterhood Bene Gesserit and molded it in her image.

This is Valya’s storyline in the books, so it remains to be seen how much of that will be pulled from for the new show.

Is Valya Harkonnen a character in the Dune books? 501334

Dune: Prophecy covers a period not included in Frank Herbert’s novels, but it does include characters in the prequel novels written by Frank Herbert’s son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Valya first appears in Sisterhood of Dune, and her story continues in Mentats of Dune and Navigators of Dune.

Dune: Prophecy is set for release in the fall of this year, although Max has yet to release a firm date.

More desert power!]]>
<![CDATA[

Dune: Part Two, one of the most anticipated films of 2024, was released in theaters on March 1st, 2024. The sequel to the six-time Academy Award-winning Dune, based on the Frank Herbert novel of the same name, takes on the second half of the 1965 sci-fi classic.

The first part of Dune made an impressive $433 million at the box office in 2021, and given its Oscar glory and good word-of-mouth with audiences (and a little Timotheé Chalamet fever among the public helps, too), the sequel has only taken desert power to the next level, earning over $700 million in theaters and topping several “best of 2024” lists by critics, thanks to its star-studded cast, storytelling, and IMAX-optimized visuals.

If you missed the movie in theaters, or want to relive the epic once more, here’s everything you need to know about Dune: Part Two’s availability to watch from home.

The buzzy sequel has been enjoying an illustrious run at the box office, but how long will that last?]]>
<![CDATA[

Dune: Part Two has become one of (if not the) most exciting cinematic events of 2024, becoming more successful than its 2021 predecessor and grossing some $240 million at the domestic box office since its premiere on March 1.

Beyond its box office success, the Denis Villeneuve-directed drama has been credited with ushering in a sci-fi resurgence and has boasted buzzy viral moments thanks to its all-star cast including Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, and Anya Taylor-Joy, among many others.

Dune: Part Two’s theatrical run been so successful that fans who’ve yet to catch the film in cinemas might now be fretting that it’s too late. Here’s what we know about when Dune: Part Two is leaving theatres, and when it might land on streaming.

When is ‘Dune 2’ leaving theaters? 6sx42

Reports indicate that Dune: Part Two could leave cinemas anywhere from 45 to 53 days after its initial premiere. The latter count would mean that Dune: Part Two would leave theatres sometime around April 15, 2024, while the 53-day theatrical run would end later that month on April 23, 2024.

While Warner Bros., the production company behind Dune: Part Two, has usually opted for the 43-day cinematic run, it was revealed in 2022 that the studio had begun pulling films from theatres on a case-by-case basis, depending on ticket sales. For example, the lackluster performance of Shazam: Fury of the Gods saw that film leave theatres just 21 days after its premiere, while Barbie’s box office success led to a 53-day cinematic run before hitting streamers.

It’s also worth noting that Dune: Part Two’s run in IMAX theatres differs from that of regular screenings, with the IMAX showings running for two to three weeks and ending in mid to late March. In any case, the success of Dune: Part Two puts it on track to enjoy the 53-day theatrical run, with various sources indicating that it will hit streaming service HBO Max sometime between mid-April and May.

This theatrical window aligns with many clues we’ve been given as to Dune: Part Two’s arrival on streaming. In late March, 2024, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that the film would probably be made available to watch online in Spring 2024. For their part, recent Amazon listings mention that the Blu-ray for Dune: Part Two will be available on May 14, in keeping with the 53-day theatrical window.

While it might be exciting for fans to catch the blockbuster on streaming, pundits have suggested that pulling Dune: Part Two from theatres too early would be unwise. Forbes writer Paul Tassi said that it would be “a very, very bad decision” to rush the movie’s streaming release, since it would hamper its ability to become a box-office success.

Here’s hoping Dune: Part Two adopts the Barbie model to allow fans a true movie-going experience.

Barbie proved to be unstoppable at the box office last year, but it turns out she can be superseded on streaming. And don’t tell Alexandra Shipp’s Writer Barbie, but one of the films triumphing over it is a spinoff of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The other two happen to star near-miss Ken Timothée Chalamet, the Warner Bros. It Boy himself, who’s just signed a lucrative first-look deal to keep him at the studio. And who can blame the company for shelling out the big bucks (specific figures have not been revealed, but you can bet it’s bigger than Ken’s ego) when Dune: Part Two is earning universal acclaim and exceeding $575.5 million globally.

Multiply the Chalamet Charm by a double dose of Jason Momoa and you apparently have a formula for streaming success.

Only the combined forces of Timothée Chalamet and Jason Momoa can put Barbie back in her box 5c287

As per FlixPatrol, the typically totemic Barbie is no longer in the top three most-watched movies on Max right now, with the gold, silver, and bronze positions on the worldwide charts being claimed by Wonka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Dune.

Those three movies cover all three sections of the Chalamet/Momoa Venn diagram. Wonka is a Timmy C vehicle, the Aquaman sequel naturally brings back Momoa as the king of the sea, and Dune features Chalamet as sand messiah Paul Atreides, with Momoa in the ing role of Duncan Idaho (not the actor’s favorite character name, FYI).

We’re expecting Momoa to return for a cameo in the Dune franchise one of these days, but it seems the pair are inadvertently reuniting sooner than expected for this streaming stratagem to show Barbie who’s boss. Both actors are two of WB’s go-to stars, so clearly the studio needs to cast the pair in some kind of oddball buddy-cop movie and audiences would go gaga for it.

Or, you know, if Jake Gyllenhaal’s imagined Batman needs a Nightwing to help battle Momoa’s Lobo, Chalamet is right there. Send us an email, David Zaslav, and we’ll talk.

The answer is more complicated than a simple 'yes' or 'no.' ]]>
<![CDATA[

Now that the much-anticipated Dune: Part 2 has come into our lives, people are ravenous to find out what happens next. For those who don’t know, Dune is an adaptation of one of the most celebrated science fiction franchises in history, by a brilliant man named Frank Herbert. Herbert published Dune in 1965 and it quickly became a phenomenon. With all this interest, people have heard rumors of the direction of the story and many are curious: does Paul Atreides become a worm in Dune?

The answer is slightly more complicated than a simple yes or no. You see, there are six Dune books, and Paul Atreides aka Muad’Dib aka the Lisan al-Gaib aka Usul is only around for the first three. After that, his son Leto II takes control of the narrative in book four: God Emperor of Dune. The cover of that book, which features a giant sandworm in some iterations, has some people questioning whether Paul eventually makes that metamorphosis himself.

It’s easy to see how this could confuse the casual Dune movie watcher. Will Timothée Chalamet turn into a worm in the next movie? Is that the future for Paul Atreides?

Well, we are here to assure you that this specific future is not in the cards for Paul. But then whose fate involves becoming a worm? Read on to find out who turns into a worm, but only if you don’t mind the spoilers ahead.

Which Dune character turns into a worm? 5c1969

At the end of Dune: Part 2, Paul usurps the throne from the emperor and crowns himself the new leader of the known universe, cementing that by marrying Princess Irulan. The movie does take some liberties with the book; for example, in the book Alia Atreides kills Baron Harkonnen and in the movie it’s Paul. In fact, we only get to see Alia in one dream sequence, whereas in the movie she’s a talking infant with incredible mental powers.

Paul eventually has two children: Leto Atreides II and Ghanima Atreides. In the books, Chani gives birth to the twins but dies in childbirth because Princess Irulan is a jealous hag and poisons her. In book three, Leto II becomes the main character and in book four he becomes a worm. There have been many visual interpretations over the years of the worm God Emperor. Here’s a particularly good one:

Leto as a Sandworm in Dune

Suffice it to say, the plot of Dune gets weird in the later books. That’s part of the fun, though. In the third book, Children of Dune, Leto II merges his body with a sandworm so he can live practically forever. He gets sand trout (worm larvae) and attaches enough of them to his body that they form an exoskeleton and become a part of him. Over thousands of years, he completely transforms into a worm.

The fourth book, God Emperor of Dune, follows the adventures of Sand Leto and takes place 3,500 years after Paul Atreides became the Emperor. The book has some really fun parts where Leto surfs through the sand like it’s water, but he’s also a cruel, singular leader who obviously makes some enemies (there’s a rebel uprising on Arrakis).

While we don’t get to see Paul become a worm (and it might be too much to expect director Denis Villeneuve to make it all the way to the fourth book), we do see Paul riding a worm. It’s exciting and well-shot, just like the rest of the movie. So, a win-win for us fans either way.
