Meghan Markle’s recent story about a failed attempt to dye her hair at home during the COVID-19 pandemic has unexpectedly started a fun exchange with a Hollywood legend. While telling the story on her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex joked that her self-dyed, very dark hair looked like Cassandra Peterson’s famous character, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. This light-hearted comment, however, was noticed by the 80s horror star herself.

Markle explained that while living in California with her family during lockdown, she tried coloring her hair herself, but the results were not great. The dye turned her hair much darker than she expected, which led to her comparing it to Elvira’s signature jet-black hair. The Duchess shared this as a funny, self-deprecating moment, but it prompted an unexpected reply from Peterson.

As reported by The Sun, the 73-year-old actress, known for her bold personality and comedic style, responded on Instagram. She shared a screenshot of a news article about Markle’s Elvira comparison and added the playful caption, “Hey princess, if you ever need beauty advice from a queen just let me know.”

Ariana Grande, tapped to play the Good Witch Glinda in the film adaptation, may just need to ditch the “good” part of her title, now that news is swirling.

In a recent appearance, Cassandra Peterson — the one and only Elvira — was chatting with fans when she dished the deets on a jaw-droppingly rude encounter she had with the 31-year-old star. Grande’s team reportedly requested several dozen tickets — for free, no less — to the horror icon’s show. When Grande and her posse waltzed in, Elvira acquiesced to requests to pose for photos and sign autographs for each and every one of them, like the queen she is.

When she’d polished off all of Grande’s “friends and relatives”-related favors, however, things took a turn. Elvira asked Grande if the two of them could take a photo together. And what does this young star, who just asked for free tickets, the VIP treatment, and both photos and autographs for two dozen people, do? She refuses.

“No, I don’t really do that,” the Wicked star reportedly said. As if that wasn’t enough, she then ditched the theater before Elvira’s show began, leaving the horde of strangers she forced into the audience behind to enjoy the show.

It’s unimaginably rude behavior, but it really didn’t come as a surprise to many. After all, it’s far from the most obnoxious thing Grande has done. The star has earned a reputation, after years in the spotlight, and it’s not a great one. She’s been broadly accused of Black-fishing and Asian-fishing, as she adjusts her makeup, style, and aesthetic to appropriate various cultures other than her own, and her apologies have never sat well with her accs.

Then there’s the donut incident, which occurred back in 2015. The pop star, then still on her rise, was caught on CCTV footage entering a donut store in Los Angeles and spoiling the selection for everyone when she made the disgusting decision to lick the offered products. She was promptly called out for this, and several apologies followed, but it showed fans the often-questionable behavior that seems to be a norm for Grande.

Her atrocious treatment of Elvira only underpins this perception further. Grande’s wispy voice and demure demeanor may suit Glinda best, but her real-life treatment of other people is far more in line with proper villains, like Madame Morrible or The Wizard himself.

Grande did speak out not long after Elvira’s story circulated, but many criticized the star for her supposedly “mean girl behavior.” She issued a half-hearted apology to the horror icon, and pointed to recent trauma associated with the 2017 attack on her Manchester show as the culprit behind her behavior — a reasonable excuse. The star then somewhat dampened the impact of her apology with a line about her mother’s opinion of Elvira, noting that “she might have different feelings” due to Elvira’s decision to call Grande out. Quite a few people found the response to be lacking, but when you’re as big a star as Grande, even widespread backlash won’t slow you down much.

 While undoubtedly one of the world’s hottest stars today, Ariana Grande has developed a reputation as occasionally being somewhat obnoxious. The singer, songwriter, and actress, regarded as a pop icon with millions of adoring fans, is set to star in Wicked, the first of a two-part film adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s stage musical of the same name.

However, not for the first time, Grande has also made headlines for all the wrong reasons this spooky season. A horror icon described her meeting with the “Thank U, Next” singer as wholly unpleasant.

Cassandra Peterson, also known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark was chatting with her fans during a Q&A session at Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park, California, when she named Grande her worst celebrity encounter.

In a video that’s gone viral on various popular platforms, Elvira told the story of when Grande took a troop of family and friends to see one of her shows, saying, “I’ll tell you briefly… she came and she brought 20 guests, so she wanted 20, 21 tickets. We’re like, ‘Okay,’ and we give her the tickets. She comes backstage and she asks if I could take pictures with all of her friends and relatives she brought. I take a picture with every single one of them. I sign autographs for every single one of them. Then I say to her, ‘Can we take a photo together">on her Instagram, Grande replied apologetically and explained how, when the incident took place seven years ago, she left early because she was suffering from an anxiety attack.

Grande wrote, “i’m so disheartened to see this. i actually don’t even getting the chance to meet you because i had an anxiety attack and to my memory, left before the rest of my family (this was around 7 years ago and at the time i was really not great with being in public crowds or loud places)… but if i’m mising this moment, i sincerely apologize for offending you so. thank you for being so nice to my mom, she told me how lovely you were (she might have different feelings about that now but i’ll talk to her… clearly, we all have our days!) sending love always. ♡ you’ll always be our queen of Halloween!”

Grande’s fans responded in their droves ing her, writing things like “YES ARIANAAAAAAA,” “people are so quick to turn to hatred, for such a petty reason too,” and “this is why we love you ! always responding with love and explaining yourself even when you shouldn’t have to. you’re so strong for enduring all that you unfortunately have to endure and your strength is so irable. love you so much more than i can express.”

Anxiety is a horrible thing to experience, and anxiety attacks can be crippling. Assuming Grande is telling the truth about why she appeared rude to Elvira, it’s a legitimate excuse for her behavior. Grande’s new movie, the above-mentioned Wicked, hits theaters on Nov. 22.

Elvira is an icon of the horror fandom. Since she burst onto the scene in 1981, the horror host has acquired a legion of dedicated fans. So, when it was announced that the horror host and movie star would be getting her own Monster High doll, her fans got hyped. However, the doll’s release has sparked backlash on social media, with many fans claiming that the launch has been mismanaged. 

The doll was announced five days ago via social media, with the pre-orders going live today, Friday the 13th. A later series of posts described the collectible by saying: 

“The Macabre Movie Maven The Mistress of the Dark Welcome #Elvira to #MonsterHigh, in signature jet-black hair, her aunt’s magic ring, and more screamium details. This Friday the 13th at 9am PT, only on @MattelCreations. #MonsterHighAlumni #FridayThe13th”

However, three to six minutes after the dolls became available to pre-order, the website said they were sold out, leaving many fans upset and empty-handed. Monster High collectors and Elvira fans took to social media to express their shock and frustration at the release, with many complaining about how quickly pre-orders were exhausted.

Many Twitter posts say that on their computers, the dolls were showing up as out of stock the second the pre-order opened, suggesting that the launch may not have gone as smoothly as Mattel would likely have hoped.

Some s tagged Mattel in posts about technical issues with the pre-order site. Several posters made posts saying that the doll sold out while they were checking out, robbing them of their pre-orders at the last possible moment.  

The biggest and most common theme was people wondering why the dolls sold out so quickly, with one questioning if Mattel made “more than 3 of these.”

Others were quick to blame bots and scalpers for the quick sell-out, with some s expecting the dolls to end up commanding a very high price on the second-hand market due to their appeal to Elvira and Monster High fans.

Some suggested that those who brought the dolls to scalp them on eBay and other sites should suffer a suitably macabre fate.

But, based on posts by other Twitter s, it seems some were able to snag a pre-order for the doll, showing that the pre-order system was working. 

Many Monster High collectors are commiserating with Elvira fans, arguing this is the norm for Mattel, with many of Monster High‘s limited edition dolls having similar issues when they are released for pre-order. 

Neither Elvira nor Mattel has commented on the release at the current time.

Elvira, the Queen of Halloween, ed a score of other celebrities who’ve ed the alternative social media site Mastodon now that Elon Musk is the boss of Twitter.

Elvira, whose real name is Cassandra Peterson, announced her move on where else, Twitter, saying that she’s now a part of the #mastodonmigration.

This means you can now find Peterson on the new site along with James Gunn, who recently posted an image potentially teasing a new DCEU character. Remains to be seen if the move can coax any more of the general public onto the site, but she did get a game almost canceled because of her breasts recently, so maybe.

New Twitter owner Elon Musk is aware of the exodus because he took to his own Twitter to mock the site in a series of now-deleted tweets. Musk responded to famous New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman’s tweet that he was moving to Mastadon.

Musk called the site “Masterbatedone,” which is not even kind of a good portmanteau, and then he mocked Krugman’s “dirty” screen, implying Krugman had been using it for surreptitious means.

As for Peterson, she currently has two posts on the site and 105 followers, a far cry from her more than 338,000 on Twitter. She also used Twitter and not Mastodon to promote her latest book called Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark.

Hachette described the book as “an unforgettably wild memoir. Cassandra doesn’t shy away from revealing exactly who she is and how she overcame seemingly insurmountable odds. Always original and sometimes outrageous, her story is loaded with twists, travails, revelry, and downright shocking experiences.”

A fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing (MMORPG) mobile game called Adventure Quest 3D was temporarily delisted from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play store over breasts. Elvira‘s breasts, to be exact.

For those who don’t know, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is a horror hostess character who pops up around Halloween time and has made cameos in a number of movies and TV shows. She’s known for being curvy and showing off said curves.

Developers of the game over at Artix Entertainment used Elvira’s cartoon likeness to celebrate the games “Cursed 20th Anniversary of Doom.” The image shows Elvira on a couch lounging with a knife on her belt and a dress that shows some serious cleavage.

Apparently the cleavage was too much. “Legit putting the ‘Cursed’ in our Cursed Anniversary,” Artix said in an announcement about the delisting.

“LOL! Apparently our AdventureQuest 3D‘s special guest image was a little too spicy for the app store XD. The app was temporarily unlisted until our new store images are approved. We sent them in this morning, cross your fingers for a speedy reinstatement.”

Elvira herself announced when the game was back online.

Fortunately, the delisting didn’t affect people who already had the game, just people who wanted to get the game for the first time.

“As soon as the game is re-approved to be listed on the store you will be able to and the game,” Artix said during the blackout. “We are still scheduled to release ‘Elvira Hosts Artix Entertainment’s Cursed 20th Anniversary’ special event PART II this week.”

As a result, these low-budget gems are rarely considered to be significant in horror, although David Bruckner’s The Night House is willing to change that narrative. The 2020 supernatural horror was unfortunately released during the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that its wings weren’t able to fully fly high, yet genre enthusiasts found the film to be an unforgettable experience that transcended Rebecca Hall’s emotional performance to new heights. As a result, horror fans on Reddit are keeping strong in their opinion that the movie is worth multiple watches and deserves a fair token of praise.

Horror’s most well-known and buxom hostess, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has given the world the answer they’ve been waiting over forty years for.

The valley-girl gothic queen of the trashy B-movie rose to fame in the late 80s with her titular show, and actor Cassandra Peterson has answered a long-standing question from her followers — how did they manage to have their chest always look as prominent and shapely as they did?

Just ahead of Halloween, Peterson responded to a tweet remarking on how she kept the double-sided tape makers in business for several decades with her iconic look. Surprisingly, Elvira didn’t require any sort of enhancement from tape to stay well-shaped while in costume. She didn’t lay claim to any gravity-defying magic, either, just sewing skills — hers, or somebody’s — and an old-fashioned sewn-in longline bra. A true girlboss horror inspiration to all those out there.

Elvira has remained a horror icon well beyond Peterson’s years. Now 71 years-old, she’s still at the forefront of discussions for best horror series hosts, most well-known women in the genre, and as a queer icon. Peterson has attempted to bring Elvira back to modern audiences, with her announcing intentions to make an animated series with the Mistress of the Dark in 2018, but with seemingly little success. The character is far from being laid to rest however, with Peterson appearing as Elvira as a guest in everything from Scooby-Doo to RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Elvira has lived-on in parody form as well, with The Simpsons featuring a character called Booberella a very on-the-nose pastiche of her already pastiche-like character.

At age 71 Peterson is pickier about when she portrays Elvira. Part of this is due to the fact she feels like she can now be her authentic self. She stated: “I can go everywhere as myself now, I don’t have to dress up as Elvira. I can do conventions, show appearances, as myself. I think my autobiography is what changed that.”

She goes on to say: “I’m not really out there doing Elvira as much. That’s not to say I’m not doing Elvira again, but it’s a lot. I can’t do this drag much longer.”

Peterson is thankful for the acceptance she has found in the horror community since coming out. She stated: “My hardcore fans don’t give a rat’s ass what I do. Most of them say being out makes them like me even more.” She goes on to say that the horror community thrives on being inclusive. She adds: “The horror genre really stands out as an inclusive genre of filmmaking. It’s so inclusive of different races, different sexualities, different genders, everything.”

Most of Peterson’s favorite horror films are older, such as the B-list films Plan 9 from Outer Space and Manos: The Hands of Fate. A more high-brow favorite is Dracula’s Daughter. Peterson stated about the film: “It’s insane how gay it is. She is a powerful feminist vampire and has a really strong, strong presence.”

Peterson is proud of the evolution of women in horror films and her role in it. She stated: “Women have come a long way in horror movies. They become the killer, they become the survivors. I think that is a reflection of where we are in society, moving in that direction instead of women always being the hapless victim who dies in the end. Women have much more of a presence now.”

Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that rules in favor of the Constitution of the United States protecting a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose regarding abortion, has recently been overturned — and the whole world is in shambles. The Supreme Court deliberation ended in a 5-4 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and as a result, almost half of the United States are expected to outlaw abortion. As expected, much of the world is outraged by the careless and selfish decision of Republicans to strip women of their basic human rights.

Among several other celebrities, Cassandra Peterson, known by her stage persona Elvira (Mistress of the Dark), has spoken out against the court ruling, saying she’s “mad as hell” that the Supreme Court would even allow such a ludicrous law. Peterson earned international fame for her portrayal of the horror hostess in Elvira’s Movie Macabre. The now-70-year-old took to Twitter to express her frustrations, posing as her alternate self in her traditional vampire getup and baring her fangs to the “thieves” who have “stripped women of their fundamental constitutional rights.”

Following the Supreme Court’s decision, each American state will be allowed an opportunity to outlaw abortion at its own discretion. Many Republican-led states, which have been pushing to ban abortion for many years, are expected to implement the law as soon as possible, whereas Democratic-led states have the right to keep abortion legal. Still, many Americans are standing with Elvira — and other horrified superstars — to make their voices heard and oppose the degrading law.

Is Elvira no more? ed on? Ceased to be? Pushing up the daisies? Comic publisher Dynamite Entertainment is going to celebrate the Mistress of the Dark’s fortieth anniversary by answering just that question. A new IndieGoGo started today towards a new Elvira limited comic issue entitled The Death of Elvira has already been fully funded four times over, so fans will soon be able to sink their teeth into this Landmark comics project featuring their favorite Queen of Screams.

Dynamite’s IndieGoGo page describes the “supersized anniversary issue” from the creative team of writer David Avallone and artist Silvia Califano as “a throwback to the classic whodunnit horror stories of the past.” The synopsis reads, “Elvira’s wake is a star-studded mad monster party, as every boy and ghoul show up to swap their favorite memories of the dearly departed. They’re ed by film directors, actors, and maybe a stalker or two. Maybe even… the killer!”

Potential investors in the comic can opt into a variety of packages that feature perks and limited editions, including a six-pack of each variant cover, sets of trading cards, and photos signed by Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson. The exclusive perks are unavailable anywhere else.

But will Elvira return? Or have the rumors of her death been exaggerated? Killing off a major icon isn’t exactly an unknown marketing ploy. Superhero comics have been doing it for years. “We were looking for a way to really honor the 40th Anniversary of Elvira, and I thought the best way to do that would be a recap of her incredible life and career,” writer David Avallone told CBR. “But I needed a dramatic reason to do it… and decided to go with the most dramatic reason possible: her death!”

And perhaps the most intriguing piece of the puzzle came when actress Cassandra Peterson — best known for her portrayal as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark — was cast in the movie.

In Zombie’s The Munsters, Peterson portrays real estate agent Barbara Carr in the fictional Mockingbird Heights, who she describes as a “normal woman” while speaking with Variety. Peterson also praised her co-stars in the movie, revealing that she had “so much fun” on the set in Budapest.

Here, I am playing this character that’s so so different from what I normally do, I’m playing a super straight character. Barbara is a normal woman, this real estate agent. It was exciting and terrifying, but it was really cool. I had the best time with all of the actors that I was working with, and we had so much fun. The people there, the set, they built the house — oh my god, it was just all magical. It was like ‘The Munsters’ came alive. It was insane.

Peterson’s appearance as Carr is equipped with a red wig and pink suit, which is obviously much different compared to her memorable gothic-inspired appearance as Elvira. Nevertheless, Peterson has insisted that audiences are “really going to love” what Zombie and the rest of the crew have created. While The Munsters has yet to receive an official release date, audiences can expect a unique, Zombie-esque spin on the ‘60s original.
