Heroes from all walks of life are stepping up this November 5 to make a historic decision between America’s first female president, or a twice-impeached convicted felon.

Donald Trump is making his third bid for the White House, and against all odds he’s got a legitimate shot at winning. A devastating number of voters are ignoring the felony counts, the attempted insurrection, the laundry list of disqualifying factors, and the risk to our future to cast a ballot for a man tied as the oldest presidential candidate in history. The idea that Trump could win is a truly terrifying thought to many Americans, and Star Trek alumni George Takei is among them.

The 87-year-old star has long made his political opinions known, but he took to X in the lead-up to Election Day to deliver a far more serious tone than usual. While he’s typically lighthearted and jokey with his political messages, Takei was nothing but serious in his Nov. 4 post.

Takei took the stand with a flourish, digging into his lengthy tenure as an American, and as a voter, to help reassure panicked Americans. He reminded us all that we’ve seen plenty of discord before, and — while it sometimes feels “as if that’s all there’s ever going to be, strife and division, neighbor against neighbor,” — there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The Hollywood treasure went on to explain how many times he’s faced the same hopelessness as the rest of us, and reminded us how far America has come across his lifetime.

When he was a boy, Takei — born to Japanese-American parents — would have been blocked, in many states, from marrying a white person. Now, some 70 years later, he’s married to a white man, proudly touting his status as a gay icon and a proud Japanese-American. His life experience should speak to us all, as it outlines, better than most things can, just how much progress we’ve made as a people.

That progress is not about to end just because an orange-tinted dirtbag decided he didn’t have enough power and money already. As Takei wrote, “The GOP thought older women voters wouldn’t care about abortion rights, or old gay fellas like me would let them bully our community once more. Wrong and wrong. Our numbers are superior, and our resolve is strong. We will outvote them, and we will defeat them. Just you watch.”

The Star Trek treasure ended his post with a message specifically aimed at voters. Calling the 2024 election a “red alert moment,” he prompted Americans to take to the polls and make their voices heard. “Help us win this fight, which is the same fight as ages past, but reimagined for 2024,” he wrote. “Be a part of the winning side of history.”

The message comes at a vital time. Anyone could win this election, but we can ensure the right person emerges victorious. Each and every vote counts in this painfully tight election, so make your voice heard. Get out and vote, and watch American history be made before your very eyes.

No, really.]]>

Comedian Tim Hinchcliffe has caused outrage on both sides of the political spectrum with his joke that Puerto Rico is “a floating island of garbage” at a Donald Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, along with a string of controversial gags that leaned heavily on tired racist stereotypes.

Trump has yet to respond personally to the backlash, but his campaign has issued a statement saying, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign” (as per CBS New York). However, his running mate JD Vance has said, “We have to stop getting so offended” over jokes (as per C-Span), and Hinchcliffe himself has doubled down on his idiocy, telling those offended by it to “change your tampon” in an X post.

Telling jokes is one thing — most topics are fair game within reason when it comes to making people laugh — but being insulting to United States citizens at a rally designed to win the vote of the American people is offensive and, frankly, moronic.

Prolific Trump detractor and Star Trek legend George Takei has taken to X to predict the long-term reactions to Hinchcliffe’s “joke.”

Takei has suggested neither Trump nor Vance will ever apologize for what Hinchcliffe said. He wrote, “You’ll hear everything but an apology from Trump and Vance about their opening act comedian calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at the MAGA hate fest yesterday. And that tells you all you need to know.” X s reacted in their droves.

How did X react to Takei’s post?

Predictably, a bunch of MAGA morons who’d go completely berserk if someone made a joke that offensive about Donald Trump at one of Kamala Harris’ rallies chimed in, telling Takei that Trump or Vance shouldn’t have to apologize for something a comedian said. That they would defend a man who referred to an area that’s home to around 3.3 million Americans as “a floating island of garbage” is laughably hypocritical (but not in the least bit surprising).

Thankfully, some people agreed with Takei. They expressed their views that the joke was in bad taste, from showing their for Kamala Harris to suggesting the joke wasn’t funny.

Should Trump lose the election on Nov. 5, many will point to Hinchcliffe’s distasteful attempts at humor as potentially a pivotal moment. After all, why would anyone want to vote for a man whose rallies refer to over 3 million of the people he wishes to preside over as living on “a floating island of garbage"> function myFunc(currentPage, tableId) { let loading = true; let data = { action: 'azp_product_table__pagination_ajax', route: 'get_formated_products', currentPage: currentPage, tableID: tableId, } let loader = '

‘She could eat anyone alive’: George Takei, Rob Lowe, Piers Morgan, and more react to Dame Maggie Smith’s devastating ing https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/george-takei-rob-lowe-piers-morgan-and-more-react-to-dame-maggie-smiths-devastating-ing/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/george-takei-rob-lowe-piers-morgan-and-more-react-to-dame-maggie-smiths-devastating-ing/#respond Fri, 27 Sep 2024 16:05:10 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1760150 It's a tremendous loss for us all.]]>

The entertainment world is in enormous mourning after the tragic ing of respected actress Maggie Smith. As an outpouring of love for the incomparable British icon continues, a handful of fellow celebrities have already spoken about how wonderful she truly was.

Best known for her remarkable roles as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the ever-popular Harry Potter film series and as Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey, it’s hardly a surprise that a wide range of celebrities are collectively mourning with the rest of the world — especially for those of us who have literally grown up with the Harry Potter movies.

Fellow acting legends George Takei and Rob Lowe have spoken out about Smith’s sheer brilliance. “A grand star of screen and stage has departed,” Takei wrote in a post shared on X, heavily insisting that “fans both old and young shall miss her dearly.” Lowe, surely like the rest of us, firstly expressed how saddened he was by her unexpected ing, describing her ability to “eat anyone alive” while acknowledging how funny she was and how she will forever remain one of a kind.

Fellow Brit Piers Morgan has also chimed in on the upsetting news, referring to Smith as both a “magnificent actress” and, of course, a “magnificent lady.” Morgan continued his statement by regarding Smith as “entertaining, sharp, and witty” while insisting that her death is “a sad loss for Britain.”

Smith’s death was confirmed in an official statement from her children, stating that she “ed away peacefully” on Friday, Sept. 27 at the age of 89. In the statement, her children assured the public that she was surrounded by family and friends, and certainly a colossal amount of love and respect.

At this time of writing, Smith’s co-stars from the famed Harry Potter franchise have yet to publicly speak about her ing, but one can only assume words of love and iration from her former colleagues will soon begin to pour in as the days, weeks, and months go on. One thing is certain, however: rewatching the nostalgic movies will definitely never be the same without her, and neither will Hogwarts.

Aside from her unforgettable roles in the aforementioned major franchises, Smith is also just as fantastic in the Sister Act movies and Hook. And while her ing is truly upsetting, there’s simply no denying how memorable she will forever be in regards to the realm of cinema.

‘One of the most consequential presidents in American history’: Barack Obama, Bette Midler, Mark Ruffalo, and more react to Joe Biden’s DNC speech https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/barack-obama-bette-midler-mark-ruffalo-and-more-react-to-joe-bidens-dnc-speech/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/barack-obama-bette-midler-mark-ruffalo-and-more-react-to-joe-bidens-dnc-speech/#respond Wed, 21 Aug 2024 09:48:24 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1742353 There has been an outpouring of following the president's rousing speech. ]]>

Political junkies are currently enjoying the heights of Democratic National Convention-mania, as the long-awaited event coasts off the buzz of its shiny new nominee, Kamala Harris.

Feeling like something more akin to the Oscars (but with far greater implications, obviously), the convention has seen an array of big names take to the stage, from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Hillary Clinton and outgoing president Joe Biden.

Introduced by his daughter Ashley, the current president spoke on the first night of the convention and enjoyed a four-minute-long standing ovation led by some 20,000 attendees. Biden’s speech touched on everything from his legacy and landmark achievements while in office to his unwavering of Harris.

While he still has five months in office, Biden’s speech was effectively a farewell, and has drawn praise from a whole host of high-profile figures, led by former president Barack Obama, who reacted to Biden’s address on X.

“What I ire most about Joe is his decency, his resilience, and his unshakable belief in the promise of our country,” Biden’s former boss wrote. “I am proud to call him my president, and I’m so grateful to call him my friend.” Obama — who will also speak at the DNC alongside former First Lady Michelle — wasn’t the only notable Democrat to sing Biden’s praises.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg — once thought to be a contender for Harris’ running mate — shared an image of himself at the convention alongside his husband, Chasten. “Thank you [Biden], for always putting our country first.”

Buttigieg was pictured holding a ‘We Love Biden’ sign, which doubled as a chant heard sporadically throughout the president’s speech. For her part, Harris — who made a surprise appearance on stage on the first night of the convention — commended Biden for his “historic leadership” and said she will be “forever grateful” to him.

On the Hollywood front, praise for Biden was led by When Harry Met Sally director Rob Reiner, who thanked Biden for his “extraordinary service” throughout his career. “Biden will go down as one of the most consequential Presidents in American history,” Reiner wrote. “We love you Joe.” Meanwhile, Billy Baldwin also thanked Biden while providing an anecdote about the president from his time as a political intern.

“Joe Biden came to our office one day and asked me my name,” Baldwin recalled. “He always ed my name. That meant a lot to the young 20-year-old activist working on the hill.” The View’s Ana Navarro-Cárdenas kept her message simple, posting a selfie with a love heart symbol and Biden’s speech in the background.

Hocus Pocus star Bette Midler got in a quick swipe at presidential candidate Donald Trump before describing the atmosphere during Biden’s speech. “A great speech and a great night,” the actress wrote. “Not a dry eye in the house.” Also name-checking Trump in response to Biden’s speech was Star Trek star George Takei, who sent his well-wishes to the former president now that “Joe isn’t going to swoop in and retake the nomination.”

For his part, the Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo (who we already know is not a Trump fan), offered a more holistic take on the events of the DNC, gushing about how “God is loving Democrats tonight” and describing the energy in the room as brimming with “love, kindness, respect, inclusivity, hope, unity, and decency of heart.”

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill ed Ruffalo by offering his boots-on-the-ground perspective of the first night of the DNC, writing that a “sense of euphoria sets in” among the crowds as they envision a presidency without Trump. Political commentator Van Jones went a step further with his praise, declaring tearfully that Biden’s DNC speech was “a legitimate moment of catharsis and love.”

The positive reaction to Biden’s speech mirrors the similarly gushing praise he received when announcing his decision to withdraw from the presidential race. Buttigeig, Hamill and Takei were among the notable names to commend Biden’s decision at that time, alongside the likes of Barbra Striesand, Gavin Newsom, and Andrew Yang.

‘When did Trump decide he was orange?’: George Takei slaughters Donald Trump’s idiotic Kamala Harris assertion in the most savage way possible https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/george-takei-slaughters-donald-trumps-idiotic-kamala-harris-assertion/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/george-takei-slaughters-donald-trumps-idiotic-kamala-harris-assertion/#respond Thu, 01 Aug 2024 11:10:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1733458 It's really not hard to make Trump look stupid.]]>

Donald Trump‘s most recent display of unadulterated idiocy occurred during a recent conference at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). In a room full of Black journalists, the tangerine tool succeeded in offending every single one of them by insisting that Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee in the 2024 presidential election, “was Indian” and made the decision to “turn Black.”

It was a frankly, unhinged thing to say in any situation, but especially in that company and from the man who calls himself “the best president for Black Americans since Abraham Lincoln.”

Thankfully, there are people in the public eye who are prepared to call Trump out on his stupidity and counter his idiotic statements with mockery. George Takei is famously one of them, and the former Star Trek actor responded to the former Cheeto-in-chief’s foolish words with a post on X. The post said, “When did Trump decide he was orange? I knew him as white before.”

With those few words, Takei instantly highlighted the dull-wittedness of Trump’s assertion, slaughtering him and making him look like the brainless dolt he is. Of course, it garnered a significant (and mixed) response from X s.

How did X react to George Takei’s post?

Many people replying to Takei were on his side and expressed as much by either finding his post funny or openly agreeing with him.

One said, “I have been calling him Orange POS since day one, will never ever call him by his name, always a Orange POS,” and another wrote, “It was after a visit to the Sunkist farms.”

Others who agreed included someone who said, “As much as I disagree with just bout everything you say, I must it this is pretty funny,” one who replied, “He was also a democrat when he identified as white,” and another who commented, “This is a perfect tweet.”

Various other anti-Trump posters had their say, with one replying, “He’s an asshole whatever colour he is. And a racist one at that,” and another saying, “Wait…he’s white? 🍊🍊🍊

Of course, plenty of Trump’s cultists chimed in. They included one moron who said, “Trump is on your mind 24/7. You’re obsessed , Sulu. He’s not gay. He won’t date you,” and one who asked, “Is that supposed to be funny?”

Trump dishes out high school bully-esque mockery at every opportunity, but he doesn’t like it when it’s returned tenfold. If he saw Takei’s post, he’d have a tantrum like a two-year-old. Still, as the old saying goes, if you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.

In a surprising move, President Joe Biden announced he will not seek re-election in 2024, bowing out of the race at age 81.

While his tenure had its triumphs and challenges, his advanced age and apparent fatigue in recent public appearances raised questions about his continued ability to bear the immense pressures of the presidency. Despite the issues he faced in office, Biden’s choice to the torch can be seen as a mature decision, giving a younger generation of leaders a chance to step up. He’s earned respect for putting the country first.

Many prominent figures like Mark Hamill, Barbra Streisand, Barack Obama, and even former Republican congressman Joe Walsh have applauded Biden’s selfless move. But leave it to the inimitable George Takei to really hit the nail on the head. The Star Trek icon didn’t mince words, pointing out the stark difference between Biden’s graceful exit and Donald Trump‘s infantile tantrums and desperate attempts to cling to power.

Trump has been mired in controversy, facing multiple investigations and even becoming the first former U.S. president to be criminally indicted. From allegedly mishandling classified documents to accusations of election interference and inciting an insurrection, the twice-impeached Trump has consistently prioritized his ego and ambitions over the rule of law and the integrity of our democracy.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer. On one side, we have Joe Biden — flawed, sure, but ultimately a dedicated public servant who knows when to the baton for the good of the nation; on the other hand, we have Donald Trump — a narcissistic, power-hungry man-child who undermines democracy and the rule of law at every turn in pursuit of his ego and self-interest. Trump may still have his cultish MAGA base, but for the rest of us, the choice between integrity and corrupt ambition is no choice at all. Thank you, George Takei, for always telling it like it is.

Donald Trump is going down, and as you can imagine, everybody had something to say about it, from his detractors to his biggest fans.

One of the convicted felon’s biggest haters has to be George Takei, and you’ve got to give it to him, he’s really been consistent with calling out Trump’s nonsense for years now. Takei, Mark Hamill, and Stephen King, just to name a few, have provided us with plenty of witty commentary and take-downs since the businessman became the 45th president of the United States.

George Takei has a new name for Donald Trump

But now, it seems Takei and his peers are going to have the last laugh since Trump was found guilty on 34 counts on May 30th. In fact, the Star Trek actor has already come up with a new nickname for him, and we have to it, it’s perfect.

Like it or not, he’ll be going down in history as the first president to be charged as an actual felon, so referring to him by the number of charges rather than his presidential number will probably be a more appropriate way to him. Then again, it could result in him being confused with Eisenhower, who was actually the 34th president.

There are some who still believe that, come November, we’ll be referring to Donald Trump as 47. At the moment, that possibility is still on the table, so we’re going to have to wait and see what happens after the judge hands out his sentence. But even if Trump does avoid jail and somehow wins the election, he’ll forever be ed as Mr. 34, AKA the only president in history to be criminally charged.

It’s hard to believe, but there was a time in the United States when Rudy Giuliani was one of the most respected and revered politicians around. He began his rise during the Ronald Reagan presidency as Associate Attorney General, and then he became the Mayor of New York City, where he was serving during the 9/11 attacks.

He handled them with grace and amazing leadership and was named Time Person of the Year in 2001. He even ran for president and had a big lead at first (then he got beat by John McCain)! Oh, how things have changed. Now he’s broke, a national joke and even Star Trek George Takei is taking easy shots at him.

This all centers around a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that hit New Jersey near Whitehouse Station on Apr. 5. Giuliani appeared on his X show America’s Mayor Live and said his theory is that God is sending earthquakes to Democrat-leaning areas while sparing conservative ones.

You can’t make this up! Giuliani said that he was in the “communist state of New York” and then Connecticut and then he “just escaped all the earthquakes then we got to Massachusetts which probably had some earthquakes.” What about New Hampshire? “No earthquakes” which obviously tells Giuliani that God is sending him a message. By the way, that’s incorrect, which I guess should surprise no one coming from the man who held a press conference at a lawn care shop.

Here’s WMUR which states specifically that the earthquake was felt “across parts of New Hampshire.” Does fact-checking Giuliani matter? It sure feels like he’s going to say whatever he wants no matter what ends up being the truth.

The communist states are getting earthquakes. Look at California. You can’t have more earthquakes than California. You want to figure out why. Now they’re going to say I’m a conspiracy theorist, I’m crazy. You know why? Because they don’t have a sense of humor. They’re not even human anymore. They’re Marxist automatons.”

Yeah unfortunately that’s a real thing conservatives believe, that there are Democratic robots walking around masquerading as human beings. This is the world we live in. A post science, post sanity world where facts don’t matter and it’s more important to “troll the libs” than actually have something substantive or helpful to say. Here’s where Takei comes in. He shared the article about Giuliani and gave a poignant response that cut to the core of the issue: “What a sad pathetic little man.” For those that , like Takei, when Giuliani was actually someone people could respect, it hits that much harder.

Of course other people were more than ready to clap back at America’s so-called mayor.” Here are some samples:

“God is also sending a message by bankrupting and disbarring him.” “This, once “America’s Mayor”. Really very sad.” “He has always been a corrupt charlatan. He was more sly in his youth and leveraged 9/11 to repair and boost his image.” OOh here’s a good one: “America’s Alcoholic.” Others pointed out how ludicrous it was to mention California when it’s LITERALLY ON A FAULTLINE.

Someone else pointed out something that Giuliani seemed to miss in his scientific calculations about earthquakes: Alaska is the most seismically active state in the country, and no state is redder than Alaska. The only time Alaska went blue was in 1964 when Lyndon B. Johnson won the presidency in that historic landslide. Why even bother with the facts, right? They just get in the way! Can’t wait to hear how chemtrails are a lib conspiracy next week.

Any film that is mostly casted by minorities is always subject to knuckle-dragging keyboard warriors bashing out nebulous complaints about reverse-racism or rampant misandry, or whatever incel-adjacent buzzword is trending that week on the right-wing internet. And, predictably, the film Joy Ride, which stars mostly Asian-Americans, has been subject to similar criticisms, even though as of this article beng published it has an impressive RT rating of 91 percent on the famous Tomatometer.

So, according to all the reviews we’ve seen so far (and that RT rating), the film doesn’t need too much defending from the sort of criticism that falls into the Ben Shapiro school of bad takes. However, Star Trek star and Twitter hero George Takei still decided to make fun of one such early reviewer for what is obviously an opinion driven more by personal and political beefs than an actual appraisal of the film.

Screengrab via Twitter

Now, privileged yet utterly mediocre white guys giving their silly opinions about things they don’t understand is the bedrock of cultural criticism in the West, but in recent years most people have realized you don’t actually have to engage with these overgrown toddlers when they’re saying something silly. And Takei’s sarcastic response to the original tweeter showcases the best way to deal with this kind of attempt at courting contrarianism for views: by making fun of them. After all, there’s no worse thing in the world for these types of folks than the notion people think they’re a joke (see: Musk, Trump, etc.), so comedy at their expense is a powerful tool.

Joy Ride tells the story of childhood best friends Audrey and Lolo as they attempt to journey across China in search of Audrey’s birth mother. Accompanying them is Audrey’s former college roommate Kat, and Lolo’s strange, K-Pop obsessed cousin Deadeye. Along the way they encounter a surprising amount of debauchery, and the quartet bond as they discover more about themselves and each other. So, it’s no surprise that more regressive-minded people have a problem with it.

Emily in Paris star and Tony Award-nominated Ashley Park plays the role of Audrey, with Lolo being taken on by comedian Sherry Cola. Academy Award-nominated Stephanie Hsu is Kat, a character who is a famous actress in her native China.

Plenty of early reviewers of the film have noted the movie’s raunchy comedy, and likened it to the brilliant and similarly groundbreaking Bridesmaids – which became an iconic female-led production when it was released over a decade ago. Joy Ride is directed by Crazy Rich Asians writer Adele Lim, and is her feature-length directorial debut. The world premiere of the film was back in March at SXSW, and it is due to be released in theaters in the U.S. this Friday (July 7).

The light in the world dimmed a little bit today as Tina Turner, a multitalented singer, songwriter, author, actress, and of course — dancer, ed away at age 83. Her powerhouse status as an artist, woman, and mother is something almost unexplainable — and you’d be hard-pressed to find a person alive who didn’t feel inspired by her story, talent, and ion.

As news of her death found its way to the ears and eyes of those who loved her, social media tributes began pouring out; people who knew her and even those who didn’t were sharing beautiful tokens of appreciation, adoration, and devastation at her loss. Everyone from former president Barack Obama to the immensely talented Forest Whitaker, and many more, have poured their hearts out in honoring the legend that will always be Tina Turner.

Angela Bassett, who played Tina Turner in a 1993 biopic, shared a beautiful and sentimental statement about Turner using her pain and heartache to “change the world” (via Variety).

How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world? Through her courage in telling her story, her commitment to stay the course in her life, no matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a space in rock and roll for herself and for others who look like her, Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, comion, and freedom should look like. Her final words to me – for me – were “You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.” I shall hold these words close to my heart for the rest of my days. I am honored to have known Tina Turner. I am humbled to have helped show her to the world. So on today, while we mourn the loss of this iconic voice and presence, she gave us more than we could have ever asked. She gave us her whole self. And Tina Turner is a gift that will always be “simply the best.” Angels, sing thee to thy rest…Queen.”

Barack Obama called Turner unapologetically herself, someone who spoke and sang through her joy and her pain.

Beyoncé turned her website into a tribute to Turner, calling her a queen and sharing that she’ll love her without ceasing.

Forest Whitaker shared that in honoring her, we should take a moment to consider her greatness and resilience, two traits she had in droves.

Oprah’s tribute to Turner will bring a tear to your eyes, not that the others haven’t — but there’s something vulnerable and kind in how she describes starting as a fan of Turner’s before turning into a friend.

Darius Rucker knows a thing or two about soulful music, an iconic voice, and a storytelling heart — and he only does because of Turner’s inspiration in his life.

Jennifer Hudson thanked Turner for all she gave the world, reminding all of us how gracefully Turner lived with all of the good and evil she faced.

President Biden pointed out Turner’s humble beginnings as a farmer’s daughter in Tennessee. She worked hard to achieve the dreams she chased, and even though it wasn’t always easy — it was a worthy endeavor.

Kerry Washington shared that she used to stand around making Tina Turner impressions for anyone around, feeling so inspired that she couldn’t help but channel the icon.

George Takei quoted an iconic Turner song to pay homage to her, and he easily sums up her light and love.

Of course, no one paid better homage to Turner than she did herself when she spoke about what she hoped her legacy would be. The faith Turner had in herself and the power she knew she held in her hands was something immeasurable; Turner did get better, and all because she worked hard to ensure her dreams would be hers.

We’re sending our thoughts to Turner’s loved ones during this difficult time, and may we never forget that when you believe in yourself and work hard for your dreams, anything is possible.

George Takei uses ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ to perfectly point out a problem plaguing America https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/george-takei-uses-rupauls-drag-race-to-perfectly-point-out-a-problem-plaguing-america/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/george-takei-uses-rupauls-drag-race-to-perfectly-point-out-a-problem-plaguing-america/#respond Thu, 18 May 2023 17:38:46 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1494752 Once again, activist George Takei takes a stand.]]>

Among the many, many political and societal issues surrounding the United States, the matter of opinions will always be the fire starter. There are the conservatives who would much rather silence the LGBTQ+, Black, disabled, and remotely “different” voices all around the world than ever give them basic human rights. Oppositely, there are the liberals, who campaign for positive change and equality for all. And then, there’s George Takei, who defies classification. But he does encourage everyone to watch Rupaul’s Drag Race, so we can take a wild guess at which label he falls under.

It all came to a head once Donald Trump took over, but America has been divided for decades. Conservatives believe that propaganda and peer pressure are forcing their children into “becoming” gay, transgender, etc. They also feel that shows like Rupaul’s Drag Race preaching for gay visibility and inclusion for the art of drag is two steps back for society, not forward. But as long as Takei is around, those homophobes don’t have much influence.

For a long time, Americans have been at war with one another over the entertainment material their children consume, be it books, shows, films or some other form of media. Takei took a stand on the topic, making a point out of mutual understanding. Ultimately, it all boils down to keeping one’s nose out of other people’s business. There should be no influence had over another person’s children, even if the culprit thinks it beneficial.

Takei is essentially asking to let kids be kids. If they want to watch Drag Race, they should be allowed to watch Drag Race — or any other show for that matter. It shouldn’t be the harmless content itself that deters parents from exposing their children to these platforms for the voices of minorities, only the viewing discretions for foul language and other age-restricted segments. There’s plenty of inappropriate things about Drag Race, but it isn’t the exposure of gay people nor drag queens, it’s more the expletives used by the queens.

In the end, does it really matter what book a kid reads or if they’re keeping up with every season of Drag Race? If they’re not harming anyone, what difference does it make? We can sleep a little easier knowing that George Takei stands with the LGBTQ+ community on this, always acting as a prominent voice in the fight for LGBTQ+ and immigration rights. As a gay man himself, we can always count on Takei to have our backs, even if he has to fight the entire American government.

George Takei gives the internet a bitter pill to swallow about Donald Trump’s CNN town hall https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/politics/george-takei-gives-the-internet-a-bitter-pill-to-swallow-about-donald-trumps-cnn-town-hall/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/politics/george-takei-gives-the-internet-a-bitter-pill-to-swallow-about-donald-trumps-cnn-town-hall/#respond Thu, 11 May 2023 01:45:24 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1489246 The man speaks the truth. ]]>

If you had the displeasure of being tuned into tonight’s CNN town hall hosting former U.S. President Donald Trump, we feel for you. After a straight hour of dodging questions, lying through his teeth, and making inflammatory remark after repulsive anecdote – all in front of an audience of rabid ers, it’s almost feels like the guilty verdict in his sexual assault case, just yesterday, never happened.

CNN is being widely scrutinized by people from just about every political leaning for either the way they covered Trump, or why the network gave him a prime time television slot to spout drivel in the first place. This includes prolific sci-fi actor and active Twitter George Takei, who gave his followers a bitter pill to swallow after the dust had settled from the clown fiesta that the Town Hall turned out to be:

If you cast your mind back to the news cycle back leading up to the 2016 presidential election, Trump’s bid for Presidential candidacy started out as a bit of a meme, which quickly spiraled out of control and ultimately led to him becoming the leader of the world’s most powerful nation. As Takei astutely points out, it’s giving Trump the sort of platform that we saw tonight, that puts us in a dangerous spot in which, despite all of his misdeeds, Trump could again emerge as a frontrunner for 2024.

From his persistent refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election, his willingness to pardon Jan. 6 insurrectionists, denial of knowing his sexual abuse victim, to the outlandish claim that he could resolve the Ukraine war in 24 hours – and everything else in between – the segment was an absolute mess.

Perhaps we should’ve heeded Mark Hamill’s words and tuned into what he was watching tonight instead of CNN. Maybe we’d have been better off.
