Although it might seem like celebrities live a charmed life filled with glitzy red-carpet events and designer outfits, a lot of big names have struggled, just like the rest of us. Selena Gomez is one of those folks whose childhood may have been less than ideal despite being a Disney star. The actress was born to 16-year-old Mandy Teefey, who filed for divorce from her husband, Ricardo Joel Gomez when her daughter was five. Looking back, Gomez likens her upbringing to the series Gilmore Girls.

“My mom had me when she was 16, and I do feel that we grew up together,” the actress said during a Variety Actors on Actors segment. “It’s a bond that is very different, and I’m so grateful that I’m so close with my mom that we were there for each other. It felt very Gilmore Girls if that makes sense. It was very much that dynamic for a long time.”

It’s easy to spot the similarities between Gomez’s life and the hit comedy-drama. Gilmore Girls chronicled the day-to-day lives of 32-year-old Lorelai Gilmore and her brilliant teenage daughter Rory Gilmore, who she had at 16. Set in a tiny Connecticut town, the story sees the pair desperately trying to achieve their dreams, with Lorelai aiming to own an inn and Rory working toward a Harvard University acceptance.

Gomez’s mom looked out for her daughter the same way Lorelai was there for Rory. But instead of tests and college essays, Teefey helped with her child’s acting career. That parental guidance came in handy when Gomez landed a role on Barney & Friends at the age of 10. “My mom was fantastic,” Gomez recalled. “She would never ever put me in a room by myself. She was just very aware of things that I didn’t know when I was growing up.”

As Gomez’s fame grew, with a starring role in the Disney fantasy teen sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place and a budding music career, her mom remained unwavering with her and invaluable guidance. “If I had to go to a premiere and I was 16, she would say, ‘You can’t go to the after party, just enjoy that, have fun. Then you’re gonna go home,'” the actress explained before stating that those were the “little things that helped my sanity.”

However, life in the spotlight hasn’t always been easy. Gomez went through a very high-profile breakup with pop star Justin Bieber and frequently struggles with anxiety and depression. The actress was diagnosed with lupus in the early 2010s and received a kidney transplant in 2017. Fortunately, Gomez seems to have found her happy ending with a starring role in Only Murders in the Building. Her work on the series recently earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

Gomez was also nominated for Best ing Actress in a Motion Picture for her work in Emilia Pérez. On the personal side, the actress took to social media on Dec. 11 to announce her engagement to boyfriend Benny Blanco. She celebrated the news with a series of pictures alongside the caption, “Forever begins now.” While it might not have been easy to have a teen mom, Gomez seems to have lucked out and is finally living her best life.

‘I’m screaming’: 2 ‘Gilmore Girls’ characters reunite for a Walmart ad, but fans have legit concerns https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/im-screaming-2-gilmore-girls-characters-reunite-for-a-walmart-ad-but-fans-have-legit-concerns/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/im-screaming-2-gilmore-girls-characters-reunite-for-a-walmart-ad-but-fans-have-legit-concerns/#respond Tue, 03 Dec 2024 20:06:24 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1803891 It's a holiday gift!]]>

It’s a snowy day in Stars Hollow as Kirk Gleason (Sean Gunn) delivers a box to Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) asks for a cup of hot coffee. No, it’s not a new episode of Gilmore Girls (sob), but the beloved couple is back in a new ad for Walmart.

After Luke gifts his love a Keurig and she says “You shouldn’t have,” he quips, “I had to. You’re drinking me out of business.” Luke and Lorelai then stand outside of Luke’s diner with big grins on their faces and I’m lost in this charming, cozy small-town world again.

All right, I’m back… but now I’m craving coffee. Even though fans can revisit the Amy Sherman-Palladino-created show on Netflix (at least for a little while longer), it’s a great Christmas gift to see the actors together again. One fan said it best on X: “I’m screaming.” Is there another possible reaction to seeing these small-town lovebirds back together again?

It’s not all fun and games (or hot coffee and plaid shirts and backward baseball caps), though. One X pointed out the first issue with this new ad: not wanting to Walmart. They said, “A good day for Gilmore Girls but Walmart will not be getting my money.”

It’s understandable that some are disappointed to see such sweet characters in an ad for Walmart, which is known for a host of controversies, not least of all how much it pays its employees. According to The Guardian, a cashier in Arkansas was paid $12.85 per hour, despite having worked there for 11 years. Sam’s Club employees started making $15 instead of $11 per hour in 2021, but Walmart employees weren’t given the same raise. This continues to be a glaring and upsetting issue. In 2023, Rick Wartzman wrote a book called Still Broke and said people should make $20 an hour. As he perfectly put it, “What’s radical to me is to be in the richest country on Earth and have people who get up and work hard every day struggle to the degree they are.”

Other X s mentioned another glaring problem: if Jess Mariano (played by the absolute dreamboat Milo Ventimiglia, aka my celebrity crush) worked at Walmart, why wasn’t he in the ad, too? It’s a crime not to include the rebel who stole Rory Gilmore’s (Alexis Bledel) heart in high school.

Another X isn’t pleased with the commercial for another reason. They wrote, “That is SO not canon” because “Luke would NEVER shop at Walmart.” This is a good point. It’s hard to imagine the (lovable) grump setting foot in a chain store. He even turned his late dad’s hardware store into his diner instead of finding a new location. He’s more of a mom-and-pop kind of shopper.

Graham told People that shooting the Walmart ad was “surreal,” “fun” and “a great opportunity.” She also mentioned that Mae Whitman, who played Sarah Braverman’s daughter, Amber on Parenthood, was on set (and her baby was there, too), which made it even more emotional.

Spending a few minutes back in Stars Hollow may not have been perfect, what with the promotion of a problematic chain and the absence of a key character (I wouldn’t complain if Dean was there), but Gilmore Girls fans will take what they can get, especially since it’s been eight years since that chaotic Netflix revival no one wants to discuss.

It feels like a lifetime since the last episode of Gilmore Girls aired in 2007. Fans of the show are still invested in the characters, and many of us have unanswered questions. So, with this in mind, when Kelly Bishop, the woman who played the role of Gilmore matriarch Emily Gilmore, shared her opinion of her onscreen granddaughter’s boyfriends, you better believe we stopped to listen.

In an interview with Gallery Books, Bishop was asked: “In of Rory’s boyfriends, are you Team Logan, Team Jess, or Team Dean?” To which she responded, “Rory’s boyfriends … well, I have to it, I am Team Logan.” She revealed that despite loving the other options, she was drawn to the character Logan Huntzberger (played by actor Matt Czuchry). “There is something about Logan. There is something about his acting that I particularly liked in working with him.” She notes how this included his “manly quality” compared to the other boyfriends who were “great boys.”

But was picking Logan the right choice, or did Jess Mariano (played by Milo Ventimiglia) or Dean Forester (played by Jared Padalecki ) make a much better choice? Fans appear to be divided because while plenty of people shipped Rory’s relationship with Logan (and the Team Logan forever comments reflect this), others disagree. Plus, there have been a few other names that have even been tossed into the hat!

Fans react to Kelly Bishop saying she is Team Logan

Many commenters feel that Kelly Bishop’s answer is exactly what her character, Emily Gilmore, would have said. “It was because he got her the birkin bag wasn’t it?” a comment reads. “This is the wrong answer, but it tracks for Emily so I’ll allow it,” another fan shared.

Other reactions include, “How can anyone vote for Jess! He treated her sooo bad the entire relationship!!! Come one now girls,” and “to the 2% who voted for dean, are you okay??” Did the interviewer forget to include other important names? “Team you think Tristan deserved a chance,” a comment reads. “Team Marty deserved a chance,” another shared.

The question of who Rory Gilmore should have chosen has been asked multiple times. Actress Alexis Bledel also shared her views on who she feels her character should have picked in an interview with Watch What Happens Live, and even she couldn’t decide. “Jeagan?” she said, combining her three major onscreen love interests. “I can’t single somebody out.”

The debate rages on!

Gilmore Girls hasn’t been on the air as long as some other timeless classics, but it still enjoys a massive, devoted following, as the series has become a comfort show for many. The original seven seasons aired from 2000 to 2007, and many new viewers discovered the series for the first time on streaming platforms. The WB hit has been on Netflix since 2014, but is it leaving the streaming service any time soon?

The series follows mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory, and their relationships with the rest of the family and respective love interests. With its witty comebacks, endless love for coffee, and debates about the best pairings (Team Logan here), Gilmore Girls is always a good idea. Fans got a chance to revisit the characters in 2016 with the four-part miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Although it’s a decade since fans have been able to indulge in the show at their leisure on Netflix, are the rumors that it’s leaving the platform true? Here’s everything you need to know about the future of your favorite Stars Hollow duo.

Fear not, you can still stream Gilmore Girls on Netflix

Netflix will not leave us without our Gilmore Girls fix — at least not yet. Just like Lorelai and coffee, Netflix and Gilmore Girls go hand in hand. While we might have to brace ourselves for when the series eventually does leave the platform — just as Lorelai had to brace herself when Rory left for Yale — that isn’t happening anytime soon.

Netflix has a contract to run Gilmore Girls for at least two more years, until July 1, 2026, which means there are endless opportunities to keep binge-watching the seven seasons from start to finish multiple times over (no judgment here). After July 2026, Netflix will either renew its deal or the series will eventually move to another streaming service. Since Gilmore Girls aired its final seasons on The WB — the bygone days before the network became The CW — the series officially belongs to Warner Bros., so, it might end up streaming on its platform, Max.

Things are, of course, different for the Gilmore Girls revival. The four-episode miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was produced by Netflix, and the platform has exclusive rights to keep it on its platform for 10 years, which means there are also two more years to stream it until Nov. 25, 2026. That’s still a long time.

5 actors who asked for their characters to be flat-out killed (and 5 who probably should have) https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/5-actors-who-asked-for-their-characters-to-be-flat-out-killed-and-5-who-probably-should-have/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/5-actors-who-asked-for-their-characters-to-be-flat-out-killed-and-5-who-probably-should-have/#respond Mon, 29 Jul 2024 13:20:05 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1731737 Some wanted the boot, while others stayed on way too long!]]>

Every now and then, we sit and wonder why some of our favorite TV characters were killed off. Similarly, there are times when it’s a mystery why a character hasn’t been given the boot yet. Surprisingly, some actors actually want to be written out of a story.

Maybe the story’s taken a weird turn, or there’s just no feasible way the character can move forward. It’s pretty hilarious thinking of an actor begging to be killed off, but it’s not as rare as you’d think. With that being said, here’s five times an actor pleaded for the boot, and five others that should have been written out long ago.

Sophie Turner wanted Sansa Stark to die a slow, painful death

While Sansa initially got on our collective nerves, she blossomed into a fierce and determined Queen in Game of Thrones. However, Sophie Turner actually wanted the Queen in the North to be written out after succeeding in her revenge mission. While chatting with Just Jared, she shared that she wanted “ a big death scene” for Sansa. “Something that will last a good episode, like poisoning, you can really drag that one out. Just a long slow death.”

The Vampire Diaries should have left Bonnie dead the first time

Kat Graham deserves a thousand and one apologies for the absolutely mindblowing mistreatment her character Bonnie received in The Vampire Diaries. After all, if Bonnie died early on, we’d have spent the rest of the show missing her fondly. Instead, the character essentially became the writers’ sacrificial lamb every other season, and my girl definitely deserved better.

Jeffrey DeMunn asked for Dale to be ripped apart by zombies

The Walking Dead remains a cultural phenomenon to this day, and it’s anyone’s guess why any actor would willingly want to be let go from such a successful venture. Dale’s death on the show came much earlier than comic book fans expected, but it was all thanks to DeMunn, who prioritized his loyalty to former showrunner Frank Darabont. When Darabont was fired during season 2, DeMunn asked for Dale to be chopped to bits. Talk about friendship!

Kitty from Glee should have been taken out, Mean Girls style

There was little to nothing to like about Kitty Wilde on Fox’s Glee. It was almost as if the writers wanted to make a Santana-Quinn hybrid but failed immensely. Kitty was downright evil and manipulative and had very few redeeming qualities if you ask me. In another Glee-esque world, she would have gotten the Regina George treatment, and whacked into oblivion by a school bus.

Milo Ventimiglia wanted Jess gone in Gilmore Girls

You may have been Team Jess, but actor Milo Ventimiglia told E! News that he actually asked for the character to be killed off, but was denied. “I was the one who actually tried to get Jess killed, and they didn’t go for it,” he said. He wanted the character to get “hit by a bus, a knife in the side of the neck, something bad.” Definitely not the prettiest picture for fans of Stars Hollow.

Lost’s Mr. Eko was over the sandy shores of Hawaii

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Mr. Eko will always remain one of the most iconic characters on Lost. However, the British-Nigerian actor grew tired of filming in Hawaii, especially after losing both his parents. And while the showrunners had big plans for him, his request was eventually granted, and Lost fans said goodbye to Mr. Eko in season 3.

Chyler Leigh initiated Lexie’s tragic death in Grey’s Anatomy

Lexie Grey’s death will remain one of TV’s most heartbreaking moments, but it was actually Chyler Leigh who asked to be written out. She and showrunner Shonda Rhimes came to an agreement after Leigh had expressed the need to spend more time with her family. However, it doesn’t make the character’s death any less gut wrenching.

Believe it or not, Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t dumped Owen yet

While Kevin McKidd is a Scottish national treasure, his character Owen should have been one of many Grey’s characters to end up in the morgue. Grey’s Anatomy has said goodbye to a number of fan favorites, and managed to keep the whiny Owen well into season 21 of the hit medical drama. After everything we’ve been through, Owen’s exit should have happened years ago.

T-Bag deserved way worse than prison

Prison Break is an iconic staple of 2000s television, and T-Bag was the absolute scum of the earth. Time after time, the character evaded death, and when it seemed like he couldn’t get worse, he did! By the end of the series, the character’s fate was left open-ended, but pretty much everyone wanted to say a definitive goodbye to the devious scoundrel.

Gilmore Girls is always the right answer when we have no idea what we’re in the mood to watch. While unfortunately Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) aren’t real, we can pretend we’re hanging out with them in Stars Hollow, eating at Luke’s and talking at the speed of light while enjoying (a lot of) coffee. But is it time to say goodbye to Gilmore Girls on Netflix?

Even though Gilmore Girls premiered on The WB back in 2000, the show still has a massive fanbase. No one can get enough of the sweet Christmas episodes, the funny characters, and the bond at the core of the show. Is it true that we’ll soon no longer be able to binge-watch our favorite show on Netflix? Grab a cup of coffee and find out.

Will Gilmore Girls leave Netflix?

Thankfully, we’ll have a few more years to enjoy Gilmore Girls on Netflix. According to Prevention, Gilmore Girls is staying on the streaming service for now… but could leave in 2026. That’s because GG and Netflix have a deal until that year. Based on this deal, the revival Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life could leave Netflix on November 25th, 2026, and Gilmore Girls could leave Netflix on July 1st, 2026.

We might be biased because of our love for the show, but we would think that since Gilmore Girls is still so popular, Netflix would keep it in its roster. We don’t like hearing that it could leave the service in around two years.

The revival Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life (which we’re still processing because we still have some problems with it) was watched by tons of people, which is why it would be shocking if it was suddenly gone from the platform. The Hollywood Reporter shared that 5 million people aged 18-49 tuned in to see what Rory was like as an adult, see as many scenes as possible of Lorelai and Luke Danes (Scott Patterson), and get another taste of cozy small-town life. According to The Washington Post, both the original and the revival were streamed for 505.8 million hours total, as Netflix shared in a report in December 2023.

We might not when we first realized that the show we had so much love and nostalgia for ed Netflix. According to CNN, it was back on Oct. 1st, 2014. We’re grateful that we’ve been able to sign into our s for a decade now and watch when Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki) and Rory split up or Lorelai works on opening her inn.

Of course, we can’t ignore the fact that even though fans have been watching the show in droves, the cast haven’t gotten the streaming residuals that they deserve. During the 2023 WGA strike, Sean Gunn, who played one of our favorite characters Kirk Gleason, said Gilmore Girls “brought in massive profits for Netflix.” He added, “It gets streamed over and over and over again, and I see almost none of the revenue that comes into that,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

If Gilmore Girls does leave Netflix in 2026, we would hope another streaming service would take it over. The numbers have been so good that it would seem strange if that didn’t happen. Or we’ll just have to find another way to keep rewatching the show because giving it up just isn’t an option. (Do we still own the DVDs? Does anyone still have a DVD player?) All we know is we’ll never leave Stars Hollow behind.

If you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls, then you know that the series is praised for its wholesome and charming storylines, divine characters, and intriguing setting. You also know that it revolves around a single mother and her daughter as they navigate life in a small Connecticut town, a place where Christmas is a big deal.

Stars Hollow is the place that Rory and Lorelai Gilmore call home, and it’s the kind of picturesque place we’d all like to inhabit. It’s a town where Lorelai made a new life for herself and her daughter, and while that whole “everyone knows everyone” thing can be taxing, it also carves out a safe space for our favorite mother/daughter duo.

With a premise that sweet, it’s easy to understand why Gilmore Girls’ Christmas episodes have gone on to become huge fan favorites and help make our holiday season that much better and brighter. So, let’s dive in and share a few of our favorites from the show that are sure to give you an even deeper appreciation for the holiday season.

“That’ll Do, Pig” (season 3, episode 10)

A winter festival is on the horizon, and the residents of Stars Hollow are abuzz with excitement — well, most of them are. Rory is excited to go with Jess, but he’s not really into the whole experience. Another concurrent celebration is that of Richard’s 60th birthday, and there’s a surprise in store for everyone that no one is expecting. This may be a winter episode as opposed to a Christmas one, but it’s still one that’s fun to watch during the holidays. There are gifts, a town-wide celebration, and of course the wintry backdrop of Stars Hollow that sets the perfect festive season mood.

“Santa’s Secret Stuff” (season 7, episode 11)

Rory is in London for the holidays and Lorelai and Chris don’t feel like celebrating without her, so Christmas is on hold until she returns. That doesn’t stop the holiday season from moving forward for everyone else, but luckily Rory returns home soon. She and Lorelai do their Christmas shopping late, the family decorates several trees together, and they even share some holiday traditions as a family. While not everyone loved Lorelai and Chris together (trust us, we get it), it’s still a sweet holiday episode nonetheless.

“Forgiveness and Stuff” (season 1, episode 10)

Lorelai can’t get off work early to get to Christmas dinner on time, so her mother suggests she skip it altogether. An upset Lorelai spends the evening by herself when she realizes there’s an unexpected guest at their home. In addition to the guest, Lorelai finds out that her dad got sick at the Christmas dinner she was uninvited too and as far as holidays go, it’s not one to write home about. All this makes for an episode that fans can relate to, since we’ve all had those significant moments we plan and excitedly look forward to only for them to go every way but the one we expected.

“The Bracebridge Dinner” (season 2, episode 10)

“The Bracebridge Dinner” isn’t just a holiday fan favorite ⏤ it’s a series-best! When Lorelai and Sookie plan a Christmas dinner for their company, they’ve got high standards and expectations for a wonderful party. Unfortunately, the Bracebridge group cancels, and they’re faced with a decision: do they cancel everything or go on with an all-out bash? The Christmas party turns into an event for Stars Hollow instead, and it’s the type of celebration we aim to have for our own gatherings. It’s fun, cheerful, and filled with relatable moments. The holidays bring us together, which can bring out the good and not-so-flattering in everyone. What counts is that at the end of the day, you’re with the people you love the most.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life: “Winter”

Fans were thrilled when Gilmore Girls came back for A Year in the Life, and the characters’ winter season was as warm and fuzzy as we could have hoped for. Seeing our favorite characters for the first time in years was a delight, but the loss of Richard, Lorelai’s father, hurt viewers as much as it broke the characters we loved. His death set the tone of the cold and harshness of winter as well as the struggles characters faced, but the way healing begins to take place in time with spring’s arrival brings some of that warmth back together.

For those interested in taking a deeper stroll down memory lane, all 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls can be streamed on Netflix right now.

Set in the idyllic hamlet of Stars Hollow, where the leaves perpetually appear to be in the throes of a New England fall, Gilmore Girls was less about the rapid-fire dialogue (though, it it, we all tried emulating that) and more about the comforting embrace of its world. Whether it was the town’s eccentric festivals or those iconic mother-daughter moments between Lorelai and Rory, our hearts were perpetually warmed

And those Fall episodes? Simply divine. They weren’t merely television episodes but invitations to a town where autumn was eternal, the coffee flowed endlessly, and problems – while genuine – often felt just Luke’s Diner rant away from resolution. Here are 10 of the best cozy fall episodes from Gilmore Girls.

“Fall” (Season 8, episode 4 – A Year in the Life)

A Year in the Life thrust us back into the cozy world, but with an undeniable air of nostalgia. Episode 4, “Fall,” felt like a gentle, albeit sassy, hug from an old friend. We witnessed the whimsical escapades of the Life and Death Brigade, a scenario so quintessentially Rory yet tinged with the golden hues of maturity. The wild ride symbolized not only Rory’s past but also the uncertain footing of her present. Then, there’s that heart-achingly beautiful wedding.

“They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They" allowfullscreen>

In “That’ll Do, Pig,” Stars Hollow dazzles us with an event that’s part county fair, part pageantry, and wholly, unmistakably Gilmore. Yes, the Winter Carnival has arrived, complete with snow, snacks, and a swine. While Emily attempts to bond with Rory over a day at the spa (cue the mutual discomfort), the real star of the show is, arguably, a pig named Clara. In a twist only this town could deliver, said pig is set to be Rory’s escort at the carnival because, well, why not?

Every year when summer comes to an end, fall brings with it a slew of new holidays in addition to cozy sweaters and plenty of strangely flavored beverages. If you’re looking for some TV to get you into the spirit of the fall season, then we’ve got you covered.

We’ve broken down fourteen of the best episodes and shows (seven of each) to watch as you’re getting ready for sweater weather. These are the shows that will make you feel like fall has finally arrived, whether you want something comforting or a little more unnerving to beckon you further into spooky season.

Only Murders in the Building

Wrapped in fall vibes, with a New York twist, Only Murders in the Building follows three aspiring podcasters who live in a New York apartment building and decide to investigate the death of a fellow tenant.

The series is a comedy with true crime trappings, but it’s also filled to the brim with great coats and sweaters. You’re not likely to find a cozier, more endearing show to put on on a brisk but refreshing fall evening.

Friends season 3, episode 9: “The One With the Football”

Friends was famous for its football episodes, and “The One With the Football” may be the cream of the crop. The episode’s centerpiece is a football game that renews an old sibling rivalry between Monica and Ross, and leaves the rest of the central friends completely baffled.

The episode is hilarious, at least if you can get past the obviously strange childhood that Ross and Monica shared with one another. It’s really all about the jokes, though, and “The One With the Football” has plenty.

Gilmore Girls

There are plenty of episodes of Gilmore Girls centered around holidays like Thanksgiving, but ultimately, the entire series has pretty incredible fall vibes.

The clothes always seem to be built around the fall season, and the small town of Stars Hollow is the kind of place many of us might like to visit in the quiet of fall. The banter at the heart of Gilmore Girls is always great, regardless of the

New Girl season 2, episode 8: “Parents”

Thanksgiving is a seminal fall holiday, so it’s no surprise that many of the best fall TV episodes are centered on that day. In New Girl, which is set in Los Angeles, we don’t get a ton of fall foliage, but we do get a classic family-oriented sitcom setup.

When both of Jess’s parents show up for dinner, she decides to try and pull a Parent Trap on them. Fortunately, this is New Girl, so nothing goes according to plan, and plenty of heartwarming hilarity ensues.

The Haunting of Hill House

Mike Flanagan has proven to be an expert at terrifying Netflix series that all have some sort of fall vibe, but The Haunting of Hill House may still be his best. The limited series tells the story of a family who experienced a tragedy some 20 years prior, and is still living with the fallout of that night.

Thanks to plenty of great performances and a smart central structure, Hill House is plenty scary, even as it delves into the personal lives of each member of this family.

Stranger Things season 2, episode 2: “Trick or Treat, Freak”

Stranger Things always has vaguely spooky vibes, but that was especially true of “Trick or Treat, Freak”, the season 2 episode centered on Halloween ups the tension around the central mystery, even as it gives us a chance to see the central quartet of boys get their Ghostbusters on.

Season 2 of Stranger Things tends to get a bad rap, but there’s plenty to love in the second season, including this outing, which is shockingly the only episode the show has ever done set around Halloween.

This Is Us

Another show that technically takes place at a wide variety of different points in the year, This Is Us is above all else an extended ode to the vibe of Thanksgiving. The Pierson family is constantly expressing gratitude to one another, and paying tribute to the legacy that their parents have left for them.

One of the most brilliant things about the show is the way that family is so intrinsic to it, and that, in addition to its numerous Thanksgiving episodes, makes it a great inclusion on this list.

Gossip Girl season 3, episode 11: “The Treasure of Serena Madre”

As a show that was pretty consistently replete with drama, Gossip Girl is actually an ideal vehicle for an explosive Thanksgiving dinner gone awry. In “The Treasure of the Serena Madre”, it’s drama all the way down the line as Blair begins to suspect that her mother is hiding a major secret and Serena is made exceedingly uncomfortable by some unexpected dinner guests.

The outfits are on point, but this episode is a good reminder that getting together with family isn’t always the rewarding experience it should be.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is the perfect show to gear up for the spooky season and enjoy all throughout. It is a retelling of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and is a dark and horrific show filled with twists. and turns.

Sabrina is a half-human, half-witch who is forced to navigate being both a mortal teenager and maintaining her family’s legacy. While the show is scary at its core, it is also a coming-of-age story with a number of relatable moments.

Twin Peaks season 1, episode 1: “Pilot”

Twin Peaks actually takes place in the winter, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have impeccable fall vibes. Set in a small town in Washington that’s filled with coffee and pie, Twin Peaks is a murder mystery that delves into the evil at the heart of American small-town life.

The pilot follows the aftermath of the discovery that Laura Palmer, the town’s sweetheart has been murdered. It’s not exactly a fun watch, but it is thrilling and off-beat, and it may be just what you need to settle into the fall.

Friday Night Lights

A show about football, Friday Night Lights is probably the best way to feel like you’re watching football in between games. This show, which follows a football team in a depressed Texas town, is all about what it can mean for the team, and the town, when the football team is good.

The show has a sprawling ensemble cast, but it’s also deeply heartfelt. Few shows on TV were more sincere than Friday Night Lights, which could make you weep even as you were thrilled by improbably comeback victory after improbable comeback victory.

Modern Family season 2, episode 6: “Halloween”

One of the best parts about fall is, of course, Halloween. And, no one does it better than the Dunphy’s and Pritchett’s. This Halloween-themed episode is not only a fun fall treat, but it’s also one of the most humorous of the series.

It has all the best parts of a Modern Family episode, with Claire being ultra-competitive, Cam has a complicated history with the holiday, and Jay and Manny poking fun at Gloria.

Parks and Recreation season 3, episode 7: “Harvest Festival”

Another fantastic, albeit questionably-aged fall episode to add to your watchlist is Parks and Recreation‘s “Harvest Festival”. The episode shows Leslie as she finds herself in trouble with a Wamapoke tribal leader who threatens to put a curse on the Harvest Festival.

The festival took seven episodes to come to fruition, creating lots of anticipation for viewers. And, it doesn’t disappoint in of giving all of the fall vibes.

Charmed

One more spooky show to round out the list! Charmed is perfect for getting you in the Halloween spirit, as it follows three sisters who also happen to be the most powerful witches in the entire world.

The show is filled with supernatural storylines and has a warm setting that feels like fall.

Latest Netflix News: Corporate greed is not a good color for Netflix as its answer to the ‘John Wick’ franchise is missing in action https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/latest-netflix-news-corporate-greed-is-not-a-good-color-for-netflix-as-its-answer-to-the-john-wick-franchise-is-missing-in-action/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/latest-netflix-news-corporate-greed-is-not-a-good-color-for-netflix-as-its-answer-to-the-john-wick-franchise-is-missing-in-action/#respond Wed, 09 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1556043 But at least it's good at picking erotic thrillers once in a blue moon.]]>

The battle on the picket line rages on — with nary an end to the striking in sight for either the WGA or SAG-AFTRA — and the straits only get more dire for everyone as time goes on; not only have Hollywood producers kept their heinous promise of withholding negotiations up until and beyond when creatives started losing their homes, but the already sour reputations of Netflix and so many other entertainment entities are getting their shady practices revealed more and more with every ing day (rightfully so, perhaps, but the point remains).

Although, if there’s one area that the streamer has a worse grasp on than business ethics, it has to be its woefully substandard approach to the action genre; from picking projects to getting the ball rolling, it just can’t seem to crack the code despite finding accidental success every other day.

It’s nice that everyone suddenly loves Gilmore Girls; it would be even nicer if the people who made it were compensated appropriately

Gilmore Girls alum Sean Gunn has been one of the most vocal champions for writers and actors alike ever since the strikes began, and with the aforementioned sitcom having made some impressively lucrative viewership rounds on Netflix since it first landed on the streamer, you can bet that that Guardians of the Galaxy star has some comments on the laughable residuals that have come from it.

Indeed, the younger brother of James Gunn is still rightfully displeased with the relatively non-existent payments that have come to him and the rest of the cast despite the show raking in substantial revenue for the streamer. There’s satisfaction to be had in landing a brand-new generation of fans for your work, to be sure, but work is still work, and it’s high time that that little nuance got the respect it deserves.

And if you think that’s bad, wait until you hear how Korean creatives are treated

For those of you not in the know, because Netflix is a streaming service rather than a broadcaster – it is under no contractual obligation to pay any residuals at all to the overseas creatives behind South Korean hits such as Squid Game, Hellbound, The Silent Sea, or countless other originals that shore up a sizable amount of Netflix’s international library. And — as you can imagine — Netflix is quite happy to not pay when it doesn’t have to.

An unnamed Korean industry executive described Netflix’s relationship with Korean entertainment as having given up “profit for exposure,” with another noting that the streamer’s overwhelming budgets and star power have cleanly divided Korea’s history of television and film into “before Netflix” and “after Netflix.”

It’s a disgustingly predatory arrangement that needs to change, but with even domestic creatives having trouble strongarming Netflix and its contemporaries into paying them fairly – that’s one hill that Korean creatives might have a bit too much trouble climbing.

It may have turned the Top 20 into its stomping ground, but Peppermint is notorious for leaving a sour taste in the mouths of moviegoers

With Jennifer Garner set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut next year (she’ll be reprising her role of Elektra from the 2005 film of the same name in Deadpool 3), some folks may find themselves wanting to acquaint themselves with her filmography.

Peppermint is one such film that you’ll be better off avoiding, which is a piece of clearly unheeded advice considering how its recent viewership numbers have brought it as far as the Netflix global Top 20 charts.

Nevertheless, a 13 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes is all you need to know about this particularly shoddy revenge thriller; how you decide to use that information is entirely up to you — of course — but don’t say we didn’t warn you.

But whether a movie is good or bad, Netflix knows their audience like no other

fair play netflix

Action movies both great and terrible are arguably the streamer’s greatest boon, and that statement is especially true when the action in question isn’t always about guns and backflips, if you catch our drift.

Indeed, snapping up content on the spicier side has consistently lined the pockets of Netflix executives over the years, and that seems to be the ethos surrounding their decision to shell out $20 million for Fair Play, an erotic thriller film set to land on the streamer shortly after a two-week theatrical run beginning on Sept. 29.

Its 90 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes certainly sets it apart from the drivel that Netflix usually seems to count on, but we’re certainly not complaining, especially with first-time director Chloe Domont gushing about it the way she is.

Dev Patel pulled quadruple duty for “John Wick in Mumbai,” and Netflix still hasn’t given it a release date nearly three years on

When Academy Award nominee and general critical darling Dev Patel writes, produces, directs, and stars in an action movie that could allegedly rival such juggernauts as John Wick, one might think it would be near the top of Netflix’s pipeline priorities.

But somehow, Monkey Man still doesn’t have a release date in sight, which wouldn’t be a problem if the film’s existence was fresh news, but the streamer bought the distribution rights for $30 million back in March 2021.

Exactly what’s preventing Netflix from getting Monkey Man out the door is anyone’s guess, but considering most of its recent free time has consisted of cracking down on sharing and rolling out more seasons of Emily in Paris, we reckon it has to do with having a ludicrously backward sense of precedence.

‘It’s cool, but we’re not getting any of the monetary benefit from that’: Sean Gunn continues crusading against Netflix for fair compensation https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/its-cool-but-were-not-getting-any-of-the-monetary-benefit-from-that-sean-gunn-continues-crusading-against-netflix-for-fair-compensation/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/its-cool-but-were-not-getting-any-of-the-monetary-benefit-from-that-sean-gunn-continues-crusading-against-netflix-for-fair-compensation/#respond Tue, 08 Aug 2023 06:25:08 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1555652 You can't argue with the logic.]]>

Thanks to his prominent position on the picket lines during the writers’ and actors’ strikes, Sean Gunn has been in the headlines almost as much as brother James recently, which is no small feat when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been tearing it up at the box office and on-demand at the same time the pieces for Superman: Legacy fall into place.

The source of the younger sibling’s ire is aimed squarely at Netflix, though, particularly Gilmore Girls. The series has ranked as one of the platform’s most popular legacy titles ever since it first landed on the library and exploded in popularity, but the cast haven’t exactly been fairly compensated for their work.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Gunn itted that as much as he’s appreciative of Gilmore Girls finding more fans than ever before, it would be preferable were the cast and crew remunerated in a fashion befitting its status as a major draw.

“I think Gilmore Girls was sort of the perfect example of the type of show that has been disrespected by the new model. We had a show that was a modest hit when it was on the air but certainly was not thought of as one of the bigger shows on television. It had a pretty decent life in DVD sales and we were pretty well compensated for that, but when it started streaming in 2014 it really became a massive hit.

They pay this small fee to lots of shows and throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Gilmore became this runaway hit for them and we don’t share in any of that success. It’s cool that there are new fans and I’m glad that they’re seeing work that I’m proud of but we’re not getting any of the monetary benefit from that.”

With no signs of the strikes abating anytime soon, it remains to be seen if Netflix and the other companies at the center of the storm will blink, but for the sake of the industry it would be highly preferable if they did.

Sean Gunn’s video of blasting Netflix at SAG-AFTRA strike is deleted and James Gunn still gets the blame https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/sean-gunns-promptly-deleted-video-of-blasting-netflix-at-sag-aftra-strike-re-fuels-the-james-gunn-hate-train/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/sean-gunns-promptly-deleted-video-of-blasting-netflix-at-sag-aftra-strike-re-fuels-the-james-gunn-hate-train/#respond Sat, 15 Jul 2023 21:43:00 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1536342 The video wasn't even up for 24 hours before it was pulled down.]]>

Just yesterday, actor Sean Gunn called out Bob Iger for calling the demands of the writers’ and actors’ strike not “realistic.” He then proceeded to point fingers at Netflix for not giving him and the actors of Gilmore Girls a share in the massive profits the streamer continues to make by having the popular series on its platform. The video of his comments instantly blew up… only for it to be deleted less than 24 hours later.

Sean’s comments against Netflix were made in his chat with The Hollywood Reporter while he was on the picket lines on July 14 for the first day of SAG-AFTRA’s strike. In his tirade, he bashed the streaming giant for not sharing the continued earnings from streaming Gilmore Girls, the series only home at the moment.

“It gets streamed over and over and over again, and I see almost none of the revenue that comes into that. I don’t understand why they can’t lessen those bonuses to share the wealth more with the people who have created the content that has gotten them rich.”

Technically, it is not Netflix’s duty to give him or anyone associated with the series any residual checks as the duty falls on Warner Bros. Pictures, the production house behind the hit show. Based on what Sean shared, it is evident that no matter what contract WB struck with Netflix — whether it received a one-time flat fee to turn over the rights of the show for a certain time period or it earns parts of the show’s streaming revenue — the cast and team of Gilmore Girls are paid the same amount in residual checks regardless of the millions it added to the studios’ pocket.

But as Sean incorrectly blamed Netflix, instead of Warner Bros., directly for the constant slump in the residual check he earns from the show, those pointing out his folly soon turned to drag James Gunn into the scuffle as he is the new co-head of DC Films. And it certainly didn’t help when THR promptly went ahead and deleted the video.

Some opted to forgo the mistake and look at what Sean Gunn was actually trying to convey — actors, writers, and everyone who worked hard on a project not getting their justified and well-deserved money. Even now, as productions across Hollywood are hitting pause in recognition of the strikes, some studios have found a loophole to continue filming.

James Gunn, who has been beating Marvel in casting the perfect actors for his Superman: Legacy, recently confirmed that his brother will be reprising his role as Weasel as well as ing Creature Commandos as the voice of G.I. Robot. This announcement was once again met with cries that the director is playing favorites — an opinion that is experiencing a resurgence in light of Sean blaming Netflix instead of WB.

Even though Sean Gunn’s comments have been shelved for not adhering to facts, there are many who have openly called out studios for not compensating the actors even as they continue cashing in big cheques.
