The long-awaited sophomore installment is finally upon us!]]>
<![CDATA[

Fans have reacted to the release of a new teaser for the second season of Peacemaker, with series creator James Gunn also weighing in on the fanfare. 6a412b

In case you missed it, a short clip promoting the sophomore installment of the DC series was released on Sunday, as part of a broader supercut teaser revealing other shows coming to Max throughout this year. It marks our most expansive insight into the new season of Peacemaker yet, with clips of John Cena’s return as the titular anti-hero and all the action-packed hijinks you’d expect from a Gunn and DC outing.

While the teaser only lasts ten seconds (which is more than enough time for Cena to remind us of his scene-stealing status), Gunn did provide us with more details in the form of the long-awaited release date for Peacemaker season two. We now know that the show will return for its next victory lap on August 21 on Max, and will encom eight episodes. Ratcheting up the hype ahead of its release, Gunn took to social media to reflect on the teaser for Peacemaker’s second season.

“Counting the days until Peace on Earth,” the DC Studios co-president wrote alongside the clip. Gunn went on to explain that he had “just finished the [Digital Intermediate] & Mix on the Season Premiere” of Peacemaker, and described it as “one of my favorite things ever.” Fans seemed equally enthused with the update, and flocked to X to share their thoughts on the Peacemaker teaser. “I have to rewatch season one again to get ready,” one fan wrote, with another adding that they were “SO hyped for this.”

Cena himself even ed in on the celebratory vibe. “So excited [for] everyone to dance with us again,” the actor wrote. “The [Peacemaker] family has such a special place in my heart and really loved making this season.” The release date reveal adds to a flurry of updates we’ve gotten around Peacemaker’s second season in recent months. In November, we were treated to an even briefer teaser of the show that included a cameo from Frank Grillo in the role of Rick Flag Sr. After that, Gunn revealed that the show had reached a production milestone as it wrapped filming towards the end of last year.

Now, we’re just weeks out from Peacemaker finally becoming a reality, but it’s not the only buzzy show to land on Max this year. The Peacemaker teaser was one of multiple to appear in the streamer’s promotional video, with clips also shown from season two of The Last of Us, the new installment of Hacks, and the Steve Carrell-starring Mountainhead. Naturally, though, it was Cena’s appearance that captured the attention of fans, and honestly, we can’t blame them for being distracted.

Thankfully, they’ll be fed with far more than just Cena content, since Peacemaker s a long list of fellow DC projects in the works, including the much-anticipated Superman, as well as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns and The Authority. In the meantime, fans will get to soak up all of Cena’s greatness when Peacemaker hits screens in August.

<![CDATA[

Viola Davis: one of the undisputed greats whose penchant for commanding a space knows no bounds. Jake Gyllenhaal: a consistently fantastic chameleon who captures extreme energy just as much as that energy captures him. Dave Bautista: a pro wrestler whose rise in the dramatic world has been one of, if not the most exciting to watch out of all the big names who have found themselves in this industry.

Evidently, none of them stand a chance against the combined forces of Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and John Cena (Peacemaker, The Suicide Squad).

Per FlixPatrol, Jackpot!Prime Video‘s latest action comedy flick that has impressed only a few critics thus far— continues to dominate the streamer’s film charts on this day of Aug. 19. Its lightning-fast ascension has seen it stand over the likes of My Spy: The Eternal City (Bautista’s profoundly unnecessary spy comedy sequel to 2020’s My Spy), The Woman King (Davis’ historical pulse-pounder whose lack of Oscar nominations was a blow to the Academy’s reputation), and Road House (Gyllenhaal’s reimagining of the 1989 action flick of the same name that might as well have been an original film).

Questionably flaunting a 32% critic approval rating and a 48% audience approval rating, Jackpot! features Awkwafina as Katie, a struggling actress who happens upon a winning lottery ticket. The catch? It’s the year 2030, and California has ed a law that allows losing ticket holders to kill the winner in hopes of claiming the prize for themselves. Beside her is Cena as Noel, a freelance lottery protection agent (no, seriously) who takes it upon himself to protect Katie in exchange for 10% of the cash prize.

The premise, then, is as fun as can be, but it sounds like the Jackpot! brain trust didn’t make the most of it. If you’re the type to rely solely on your own judgment, the film is available to stream exclusively on Prime Video.

When it comes to films that are cooked up in-house at a streaming company, you can’t do much better than Prime Video. It’s true that every streamer has its ups and downs, but when your ups involve such features as Air, The Idea of You, American Fiction, and Argentina, 1985, the downs more or less read as fine print.

That’s not to say, of course, that the downs don’t exist, and you can bet that the vanguard over at Rotten Tomatoes will ruthlessly serve the just deserts to each and every Prime Video weak link they come across.

But anyone familiar with the volatile warzone of the streaming charts knows that bad critical scores don’t even slow down the viewership numbers of some movies (in fact, in some extreme cases, they’re directly responsible). Jackpot! just so happens to be one of those movies.

Per FlixPatrol, the action comedy flick has soared to the top of Prime Video’s worldwide film rankings today, Aug. 16, just one day after its release to the platform. The film unites John Cena and Awkwafina (a pairing that makes way too much sense when you think about it) as Noel and Katie, the latter of whom kicks off the events of the film by nabbing a winning lottery ticket. Unfortunately, the year is 2030, and a law has been ed that allows anyone with a losing lottery ticket number to legally murder the winner as a means of claiming the winnings.

It’s an excellent premise that, according to its 38% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, maybe didn’t stick the landing it was hoping for. But for our money, we thought it was a blast, so maybe audiences are right to be propping this one up on the charts after all.

Jackpot! is available to stream on Prime Video.

What if The Purge was a buddy comedy starring Awkwafina and John Cena? That’s the deranged question Prime Video tries to answer in Jackpot!.

Jackpot! imagines a future where the economic crisis and wealth divide became so unmanageable that the California government has decided to turn the lottery into a bloody game. One morning each month, a lucky winner of a multimillion dollar prize is announced. The catch? The first person who kills the winner before sundown may claim the reward for themselves. Of course, that unleashes chaos in the streets, as everyone is desperate to win big and escape the horrors of poverty. As for the winner, AKA the Jackpot, they have to fight for their life until the clock runs down and they can finally grab their check.

Set in 2030, Jackpot! follows Awkwafina as Katie, who just returned to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Katie spent a few years caring for her terminally ill mother, and was unaware of the Grand Lottery before it became the most valuable Jackpot in history. To survive, she s forces with Noel (Cena), a bodyguard specializing in protecting Jackpots in exchange for a part of their gains.

Hollywood is no stranger to the idea of future elites pushing the needy masses against themselves to extinguish the flame of revolution, from Rollerball to The Hunger Games. However, Jackpot! stands apart by placing the dystopia right around the corner. That means the version of California where the movie unfolds is not so different from today’s. There’s a growing mass of homeless people occupying the sidewalks, rent has skyrocketed to the point where people must subject themselves to unhealthy living conditions, and billionaires keep increasing their gains while the rest of the world falls apart.

The fact Jackpot!’s dystopia hits so close to home is one of the movie’s most inspired decisions, as it allows the audience to sympathize with the despair that has taken over the murderous mobs running after lottery winners. From its opening scene, the movie forces everyone to question if they would also be throwing knives at another human being if it was a legal way to stop every day’s hustle for good.

The proximity of the movie’s dystopia to the real world also imbues the absurdity of its core concept with new meaning. If Jackpot! was set in a futuristic setting, the contagious money madness could be seen as a characteristic of a different culture. Instead, the unstoppable rat race onscreen reflects everyone’s life to some extent. So, the fact it’s so easy to understand Jackpot!’s unhinged world allows Awkwafina and Cena to unleash an unstoppable barrage of jokes about how twisted real life is, as the Grand Lottery’s deadly stakes feel just like a natural evolution of the current state of affairs.

The self-referential humor of Jackpot! goes beyond the economic crisis and also extends to its two lead actors. Awkwafina and Cena slyly poke fun at their looks and their careers in Hollywood, which adds a meta layer that is delicious to unpack, and disarms the audience into going with the flow and enjoying the thrill ride. Yes, a world that could birth the Grand Lottery may be anxiety-inducing, but comedy is a great medicine to deal with humanity’s slow and steady march towards extinction.

Jackpot! works as well as it does largely due to Awkwafina and Cena. Awkwafina’s mastery of comedic timing allows her to spill punchline after punchline without the need to catch a breath, all while keeping a straight face. As for Cena, his bulky body might be built for beating down baddies, but his skills are best used when he plays a funny action man – Pacemaker proves it.

In Jackpot!, Awkwafina stretches some new muscles by ing the action directly, something she’s not used to doing. As for Cena, his character is the kindest man amidst the apocalypse, treating everyone as best as he can while kicking some serious ass. Prime Video’s latest release allows its stars the latitude to show sides of themselves that don’t usually come up. This ought to please longtime fans of this duo of uniquely reliable stars.

Of course, Awkwafina and Cena are not alone. As announced in every poster and trailer, Simu Liu is also part of the project, playing a cold and methodical bodyguard who competes with Noel for the Jackpot protection fee. Plus, since the whole concept revolves around angry mobs chasing Awkwafina, Jackpot! has the perfect template for a slew of comedians in cameo and ing roles. There is even a surprise celebrity playing themselves with the same self-deprecating energy from which the movie is made.

John Cena and Awkwafina fighting in Prime Video's Jackpot

While Jackpot!’s R-rating allows it to lean hard into ultraviolence, it’s far from a gorefest, and the use of blood and guts is quite limited. Still, without worrying about what they can or can’t do to fit a specific age rating, director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) conjures set pieces that are both hilarious and extremely well-choreographed. Sometimes, we discover a new source of joy, one that fills a tiny void in our souls that we didn’t even know existed. The image of Cena using Awkwafina as a makeshift weapon is one such blessing.

The movie also profits from a clear set of rules defined right at the beginning. During the Grand Lottery, no guns or bullets are allowed. Furthermore, a drone follows the winners, broadcasting their location every 14 minutes. These two elements are cohesively used for the entire runtime of Jackpot! to give writer Rob Yescombe the excuse he needs to introduce unexpected twists to the story.

That said, your mileage ight vary depending on how much you embrace its silliness. Even with a serious subtext ing Jackpot!, at the end of the day, this is a nonsensical movie that wears its frivolousness with pride. We are talking about a grannies with knives, gangs of yoga moms kind of nonsense, which might not be for everyone’s taste. Still, those able to vibe at the same frequency as Jackpot! will have one heck of a good time.

If there’s one universal complaint we can make about Jackpot!, is its lack of theatrical release. This is a high-quality movie filled with electrifying moments that would be better enjoyed on the silver screen. Furthermore, the comedy of Jackpot! hinges on the audience’s ability to laugh at their own tragedy, which is an experience better enjoyed in a room filled with strangers, all laughing at the same stupid things. The streaming game demands direct-to-home releases, but Jackpot! is one of those movies that would benefit from a couple of weeks in theaters.

Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy regretting his decision of not playing one of the Kens in Barbie? Totally understandable given the monumental success of the film. But to hear that John Cena, who had a cameo in the Warner Bros. production, would have not been a part of the film had he listened to the advice of instantly shooting down the offer? I have never been a bigger fan of the WWE wrestler’s devil-may-care attitude.

In the film, Cena appears as Kenmaid, a merman Ken, alongside Dua Lipa for less than a minute. But every point about Barbie, no matter what screentime it got, has attracted major praise, was the biggest 2023 box office winner, and is already the Best Picture Oscar winner even though the Academy Awards is still weeks away. But despite early speculations promising a successful future for the Greta Gerwig project, its success was never written in stone. So, when Cena was offered to play a cameo in the film by Margot Robbie (when he was filming Fast X next to the Barbie set), an agency advised him against accepting the same.

“[The agency is] just going on what they know. And what they know is, ‘This entity, this commodity gravitates toward these things, we should stay in this lane.’ But I’m not a commodity. I’m a human being, and I operate under the construct of every opportunity is an opportunity,” Cena shared during his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, adding that he instantly said yes to the role after Robbie explained he would be involved in the making of Barbie for just half a day.

“But I think the perspective from an agency standpoint was, ‘This is beneath you,’ which I get that. But also to the agency’s credit, immediately they acquiesced, and I was like, ‘No we’re going to do it,’ but all they can do is offer their guidance.”

Cena appreciates the said guidance and understands that it was driven by the motivation to protect his career, which, for the agency, meant ensuring that his accepting minor roles don’t “take [him] out of these lead lap slots.” But he functions on a different belief system — “that good work gets you another chance.” Seeing that the former rapper’s acting star is constantly on the rise in Hollywood, the philosophy obviously works for him.

You can’t see him? Now you’re going to see all of him. John Cena posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he is the latest celebrity to in on the OnlyFans craze. Cena s celebs that have had or currently have OnlyFans pages like Bella Thorne, Iggy Azalea, Denise Richards, and Tyga on a quest to give fans a little more content, giving them the most up-close and personal look.

Fans don’t seem nearly as excited, however, for John Cena’s arrival on the platform. Many of the replies on his post are something to the effect of a firm no thank you, telling him to get a real job, and just general confusion as to why Cena feels the need to embark on this new money-making venture. Although some people including Pro Wrestler Randy Orton and OnlyFans model Myla Del Ray have already offered to collaborate.

One thing that sets Cena’s OnlyFans profile apart from a lot of the other ones on the platform, is that he’s created the under the name Ricky Stanicky. Ricky already has 35 thousand subscribers and more than two thousand likes, with just two posts. The description on his page calls Ricky Stanicky an impersonator, investments banker, socialite, cancer survivor, philanthropist, and method actor. Subscriptions are free.

Ricky Stanicky, coincidentally, is also the name of Cena’s character in his movie of the same name. The movie is about a group of friends, including Zac Efron, who create a made-up friend called Ricky Stanicky who has helped them get out of anything and everything for years. They suddenly find themselves in need of creating their reliable scapegoat in real life and end up hiring John Cena’s character who inevitably takes over and destroys their lives.

The movie comes out on March 7 on Prime Video and is directed by Dumb and Dumber director Peter Farrelly.

Cena’s, or rather Stanicky’s OnlyFans page includes tantalizing captions like “anyone want to hit this one more time” and “how deep can it go,” but given the lack of subscriber fee and alter-ego profile name, there’s a good chance that the profile is just a publicity stunt for the new movie. Fans wishing to see more of Cena may be disappointed.

Regardless, Cena himself encourages his fans to subscribe to Ricky Stanicky’s page, teasing them with what they might get to see. If it does all turn out to be a publicity stunt, fans can look out for his new movie, Ricky Stanicky to be released on March 7.

Why was John Cena’s ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ shelved by Warner Bros. a year after it finished filming? 601mt https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/why-was-john-cenas-coyote-vs-acme-shelved-by-warner-bros-a-year-after-it-finished-filming/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/why-was-john-cenas-coyote-vs-acme-shelved-by-warner-bros-a-year-after-it-finished-filming/#respond <![CDATA[Ash Martinez]]> Fri, 10 Nov 2023 20:59:14 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[David Zaslav]]> <![CDATA[John Cena]]> <![CDATA[Warner Bros]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1622978 <![CDATA[
Just when you thought they couldn’t possibly trash another movie. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Warner Bros. has canned yet another film. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news yesterday, much to the chagrin of John Cena’s loyal fans — sometimes called the “Cenation.” Within hours of the breaking news, fans had put together a petition demanding the Coyote Vs. Acme’s release.

The romp married CG animation and live-action in a style similar to Space Jam and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and was based on a 1990’s New Yorker article. The plot centered on Wile E. Coyote who, after many years of bodily harm caused by Acme products, finally takes the company to court. Despite reportedly completing production more than a year ago, it’s been unceremoniously scrapped by Warner Bros.

Though fans mobilized quickly, it’s not likely to make the studio budge. Even with John Cena’s raw charisma, director Brain Duffield’s claim that test audiences loved the movie, and the film boasting a script co-written by studio darling James Gunn himself, we’ll likely never get the chance to watch the animated adventure.

Why was John Cena’s movie shelved? 5f2f33

Warner Bros’ reasons for shelving the film all point to its latest global strategy. The company is looking to focus on theatrical releases in the coming years, and hopes to release two films a year. It’s not the first time the company has rebranded. It started as Warner Bros. Feature Animation (1994-2004), then changed to Warner Animation Group (2013-2023). The latest iteration of the division, Warner Bros. Picture Animation, is headed by former Dream Works Executive Bill Damaschke, who was appointed back in June 2023.

In 2020, WAG embraced a streaming-first approach to help draw subscription numbers to the fledgling HBO Max. The shift meant fewer resources were going toward theatrical releases, and the studio only released one animated movie per year. The new WBPA aims to shift back toward theatrical releases in the post-pandemic days. Deadline reports that it’s similar across the board, with Sony and Universal executives pushing the idea that, in order to pierce the cultural zeitgeist in a meaningful way, a film must first be released in theatres. We’re a little confused about the reasoning here, many straight-to-streaming or conjunction releases have glued themselves to the public’s brains: Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Encanto!, just to name a few. But none of those releases came close to Top Gun: Maverick’s indelible public draw.

So how does this new approach force multiple multimillion-dollar productions down the toilet? Warner Bros likely didn’t see how Batgirl’s meager $90 million budget, Coyote Vs. Acme’s $70 million price tag, or Scoob: Holiday Haunt’s $40 million could match up against Marvel’s mega hitters like The Marvels’ $270-million-dollar one.

What it really comes down to is money. Each film Warner Bros. locks away in its vault gets Zaslav that much closer to taking a bite out of the company’s $3 billion debt, though it isn’t dollar for dollar. The company is likely only making back a fraction of what it spent, with only the first $15 million being fully deductible. Anything past that, and the company is taking a loss.

Cancelling movies left and right isn’t the only way Warner Bros is edging down the number. The massive slashes in the Max archives are another move the company is attempting. It tried to do the same with Turner Classic Movies (which is integral for preserving classic films) before a group of directors, led by Steven Spielberg, no less, pushed back.

Each piece of archived media is just another way Warner Bros. can cash in on tax breaks – and those dreaded residual payments that shut the industry down for more than 5 months (Zaslav says the company lost some $300-400 million due to protests). It’s hard to feel bad for the CEO when he makes $22 million in bonuses on top of his salary of $3 million.

Unlike those unlucky people involved in Batgirl and the Scoob! sequel, the crew of Coyote had some advanced notice before their production was shoved into a vault for good. Director Dave Green might not be happy with how it all played out, but he had this to say: “I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB’s decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.”

Here’s hoping Warner Bros. didn’t burn this bridge, and that Green eventually gets to catch his Roadrunner.

With Five Nights at Freddy’s hoovering up all the headlines and ticket sales on its way to a record-breaking $78 million opening weekend at the box office, the rest of the new releases didn’t stand a chance, but that’s just one of three major ways in which John Cena’s Freelance has been embarrassed.

The action comedy hailing from Taken director Pierre Morel carries an estimated $40 million budget, but despite debuting on over 2000 screens it barely even cleared $2 million across the three-day frame. Adding insult to injury, the jungle-set caper is still cursed by the unwanted distinction of holding a zero percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

It’s only the second new addition to the rankings in the last four years, and the first since the infamously awful Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which pretty much tells you all that you ever needed to know about just how horrendous a work of film it really is.

Fascinatingly, though, it does hold a 77 audience approval rating. Then again, critics and crowds always tend to be in vehement disagreement over the merits of broad genre flicks, but taking a pasting from reviewers didn’t exactly prevent Five Nights at Freddy’s from shattering countless milestones.

At this rate, Cena needs that second season of Peacemaker to happen ASAP.

He's lucky he's got the DCU to fall back on.]]>
<![CDATA[

Having been granted a stay of execution under James Gunn’s overhaul of the DCU, it’s beginning to look mighty fortunate that John Cena has a guaranteed franchise to fall back on, because action comedy Freelance is shaping up to be a critical and commercial calamity.

Hailing from Taken director Pierre Morel, the light and frothy caper finds Cena’s ex-Special Forces operative taking a side gig providing security for Alison Brie’s journalist as she prepares to interview the president of a fictional country, which ends up being caught in a coup that forces the trio to flee into the jungle and fight for survival.

It sounds like breezy and disposable enough entertainment, but having debuted to an embarrassing zero percent Rotten Tomatoes score and still awaiting its first review that isn’t scathing at the time of writing, it’s yet another misfire from Cena in a filmography that’s filling up with them alarmingly quickly.

If you discount his acclaimed stint spouting James Gunn’s dialogue in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker – along with his brief cameo as a Mermaid in Barbie – then it’s been five years since the WWE icon played a major role in a feature film or TV show that wasn’t resoundingly panned by critics.

Since comedy Blockers hit theaters five years ago, Cena has sat by and watched Playing with Fire Dolittle, Fast & Furious 9, Vacation Friends, The Independent, Fast X, Hidden Strike, and Vacation Friends 2 all be bestowed with “Rotten” ratings on the aggregation site. As things stand, Freelance is the lowest-rated outing of his entire career, so maybe Peacemaker season 2 can’t come quick enough.

It seems Henry Cavill is gearing up for another spy adventure!]]>
<![CDATA[

Fans are finally getting concrete info about Henry Cavill‘s spy-thriller Argylle. The film, set for a February 2 release date next year, boasts a heavyweight roster of Hollywood talent.

Aside from starring Cavill, the film also features Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, and that’s just naming a few.

The movie will have a story-within-a-story type plot. Cavill’s titular character looks to be a suave master spy who fits several genre tropes. However, he seems to be a creation of Howard’s character, Elly Conway, an author. The film seems set to follow Argylle and Conway as their adventures parallel, and the latter discovers her writing may have real-life ramifications.

Argylle will be released by Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films. The movie will land in Apple TV Plus’ catalogue at a later date after its theatrical release. The film has dropped its first full-length trailer, finally giving fans glimpses into the plot and characters.

The spy flick will be directed by Matthew Vaughn. The British director is no stranger to the genre, having helmed The Kingsman franchise.

Possibly befitting the secrecy of the spy world, Argylle‘s production was one shrouded in confusion and mystery. The film is supposedly based on a book that has yet to be released … by an author named Elly Conway. The novel is apparently set for a January 9 release; The Hollywood Reporter previously reported on how little is known about the author, who looks to share a name with Howard’s character. What’s even more strange is that Apple allegedly dropped $200 million for the book’s movie rights … and the book is still not out.

This type of elusiveness and secrecy has befuddled fans and critics for a couple of years now. Regardless, it seems the pieces to this puzzle are finally coming together.

You can’t see John Cena… on the original release date for his new action comedy after the Taylor Swift domino effect notches another victim 6q4663 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/you-cant-see-john-cena-on-the-original-release-date-for-his-new-action-comedy-after-the-taylor-swift-domino-effect-notches-another-victim/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/you-cant-see-john-cena-on-the-original-release-date-for-his-new-action-comedy-after-the-taylor-swift-domino-effect-notches-another-victim/#respond <![CDATA[Scott Campbell]]> Wed, 13 Sep 2023 15:47:11 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[Freelance]]> <![CDATA[John Cena]]> <![CDATA[Taylor Swift]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1586009 <![CDATA[

Not to lean too hard into the memes, but it’s true that you can’t see John Cena. At least, not on the originally-scheduled release date for his action comedy Freelance, which has become the latest title to be affected by the ongoing domino effect caused by Taylor Swift.

While it hasn’t been confirmed or denied as the reason why Taken director Pierre Morel’s latest caper has been pushed down the calendar, the dots are fairly easy to connect. Since The Eras Tour announced its theatrical debut, no less than five movies have packed up and fled their positions on the calendar.

The first to budge was The Exorcist: Believer, which moved back a week to Oct. 6, when Freelance was intended to arrive. However, Relativity Media have now knocked it down by three whole weeks to the 27th of the month, which makes sense when The Eras Tour will have had its moment in the sun and David Gordon Green’s blockbuster legacy sequel also has plenty of time to make the majority of its money.

Not that anyone’s expecting Freelance to be a runaway freight train at the box office, but the prospect of seeing Cena lean into his winning comedic chops as a former Special Forces operator providing security for Alison Brie’s journalist as she prepares to interview the controversial president of a fictional country has the sort of old school charm on paper that worked wonders for The Lost City.

Cena may not be appearing when he was supposed to, but it’s not as if three weeks is a lifetime, either.

Meanwhile, 'Fantastic Four' furor ends the MCU/DCU peacetime. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Is anyone else feeling ever more conflicted with every new bit of info we hear about The Marvels? From director Nia DaCosta’s promise that it’ll be “wacky and silly” to comments that the titular trio will have a “sisterly” bond, the Brie Larson sequel really could go either way. Something exemplified best of all by the latest shocking rumors about its runtime. Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four fan-casting conversation seems set on restarting hostilities between Marvel and James Gunn’s DCU.

The Marvels could be the shortest MCU movie by a long distance, but maybe that’s just what Disney needs 2666z

MCU movie runtimes have been all over the place, with the longest clocking in over 3 hours and the shortest coming in under 120 minutes. But, if what we’re hearing is accurate, then The Marvels could be the swiftest of the entire franchise by a considerable margin. Rumor has it that the sequel will come in at just 1 hour, 38 minutes, including credits. That might sound far too short, but maybe a breezy slice of Marvel entertainment is exactly what the movie needs to be to hook in audiences and end Disney’s terrible 2023 on a high note. Plus, it’s not like everyone loves its 223-minute predecessor.

Calling Carol and Monica “sisters” feels like a controversial retcon waiting to happen 445z5l

Yes, as mentioned above, Nia DaCosta has opened up about how she wanted the sisterly bond between the titular trio to be the emotional backbone of the film, describing as Carol as the “older” sister, Monica as the “middle” sibling, and Kamala as the littlest. On paper, it’s encouraging that the trifecta will become as close as family, but that’s a pretty big retcon to the aunt/niece-style relationship that Carol and Monica had in Captain Marvel. And considering a lot of fans see Carol and Monica’s mom Maria as being like a couple, I’m not sure some will take kindly to this erasure of of Carol as being a second mother figure to her come the film’s release this November.

James Gunn might want to hold on tight to John Cena after the latest Fantastic Four casting conversations 3m5gw

The Fantastic Four fancasting has gone on for so long now that it’s easier to list everyone who hasn’t been linked to the project than those that have. Here’s one more, though, that’s getting people talking: What about John Cena as The Thing? A couple of years ago, people might not have been too hot on this idea, but after the former WWE star has proven himself a surprisingly gifted actor in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, now he could be a dark horse in the race. But if he did become our Ben Grimm, then he might not be able to play in Gunn’s DCU sandbox anymore. So maybe we should let this newfound peace between the two franchises (now that former Marvel man Gunn is in charge) stand for a while before they start poaching from each other.

Just like the quest to find out what the heck happened to Peter Dinklage in the MCU, the search for more Marvel news never ends so stay close or you’ll miss the next shocking discovery.
