Starring Russell Crowe as a detective with Alzheimer’s and Karen Gillan as his co-star, Sleeping Dogs is a movie that didn’t release to any particular critical acclaim, achieving an average rating of just 5.1/10 on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic’s weighted average of ten reviewers gave the movie 45/100. Not exactly the kind of scores studios or stars hope for when going out for review.

Contrary to review scores, though, it seems like Sleeping Dogs has received a new appreciation from fans on streaming giant Max, as it sits at a very respectable number 2 most watched of its movie offerings. Way ahead of some much more popular competitors such as Crowe’s own Gladiator, given a boost by the recent sequel, Gladiator II. It’s something that does happen — sometimes, critics get it wrong, and a movie fares much better with the general public than it does with reviewers. Having watched Sleeping Dogs, it’s not bad, although it’s easy to see why it didn’t do quite as well at the box office.

Except it seems like “not bad” is “good enough,” as Sleeping Dogs is doing much better on Max than even one of 2024’s most controversial — and popular — movies. It Ends With Us, a movie which also had mixed reviews, ended up being a smash hit with audiences. Reportedly costing only $25 million to make, the movie grossed over $348 million. Despite the critical reception, in this case, the audiences took to the movie and voted with their wallets.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in 'It Ends With Us'.

It Ends With Us is a heavy romantic drama movie with themes of domestic abuse and violence, and lead actress Blake Lively was hit by criticism for her actions during press tours and for using the publicity surrounding the film to promote her other business ventures. The marketing around the movie received negative attention for its floral themes and the absence of the movie’s main theme of domestic violence, and the drama didn’t stop there.

It Ends With Us was plagued by drama between the cast too, and that’s ignoring the drama surrounding the original book and its author, Colleen Hoover. Lead actor (and director/executive producer) Justin Baldoni did the press tour alone, and appears to be persona non grata with the rest of the cast, apparently due to being “difficult” to work with. Baldoni is notably the only cast member to openly discuss the film’s difficult and heavy topic during the tour. Post-production even saw a spat between Lively and Baldoni surrounding competing recuts of the movie.

It’s safe to say that for fans of drama, It Ends With Us has enough both in and out of the movie to satisfy. Even with the drama surrounding it, audiences loved It Ends With Us at release, and it seems like they still do, as it’s number 8 on Max’s most watched movies even coming to the end of 2024.

But nothing lasts forever, and maybe it’s time to give another movie the chance to shine, as HBO subscribers are doing with Sleeping Dogs. Perhaps it’ll even take the top spot from Twisters.

Scottish actress Karen Gillan shared her pregnancy cravings on TikTok, and it’s not as bad as you would imagine. While other pregnant women crave odd food combinations, such as spaghetti with pickles or Cheetos with peanut butter, the actress’ desire is pretty simple and straightforward — raw vegetables.

In her TikTok video posted on Oct. 25, Gillan can be seen biting on a yellow vegetable with a loud crunch, saying, “I can’t get enough. What the hell?” The comments section was flooded with replies, with others congratulating the actress and some sharing their pregnancy cravings including raw onions, pizza pockets, and lettuce and mayo sandwiches.

Gillan revealed her baby bump at the premiere of her movie The Life of Chuck at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 6. The 36-year-old actress wore a simple yellow dress that showed off her pregnant belly. She cradled her tummy as she posed for photos on the red carpet. This is Gillan’s first child with her husband, Nick Kocher, whom she married in a secret ceremony in Scotland in 2022, only revealing the marriage a year later in an Instagram post.

Kocher works in the entertainment industry as a comedy writer, but he also dabbled in acting. In fact, he and Gillan have acted in a couple of films including The Bubble and Late Bloomer. In an interview with the Live with Kelly and Mark in 2023, Gillan talked about her husband and revealed how they met. Gillan made the first move after seeing him on her “recommended friends” list on Instagram and “slid into his DMs.” She followed him on Instagram thinking he would DM her first, but he didn’t. So, the actress found him on X, followed him, and sent him a message.

Karen Gillan’s second threequel movie will be released in 2026

Gillan, who is most known for portraying the character of Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has appeared in all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Now, the actress is gearing up for her second threequel movie, this time for Jumanji.

In Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Gillan played the role of Ruby Roundhouse, a character described as a “killer of men” and highly skilled in karate, tai-chi, aikido, and dance fighting. Gillan told Den of Geek in 2017 that she was trained to do stunts while working on Marvel movies, so she knew she could perform well in Jumanji as well, but she was surprised to discover the amount of fight scenes she had to participate in. “It was just hard work. There was one particular fight scene in the movie that is so long, and I had to do the whole thing in one take,” she stated.

She reprised her role in Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), and the second movie had even more stunts than the first, and she even picked up a new skill — using nunchucks. While Gillan had a stunt double, she said a lot of the shots in the movie were actually her using the nunchucks. “I was really pleased that they pushed me to rise to the occasion,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

According to reports, Jumanji is getting a third installment, and it will be released in Dec. 2026. Apart from Gillan, other stars returning for more action are Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. We’ll just have to wait and see whether Ruby Roundhouse gains new skills in the sure-to-be action-packed threequel.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice may be the big horror release of the week on a theatrical level, but the Toronto International Film Festival is set to upstage it with a Stephen King adaptation that could not possibly be less Stephen King-coded.

This is The Life of Chuck, a post-apocalyptic drama film based on King’s 2020 novella of the same name. Per Vanity Fair, King was skeptical about the mileage of a Life of Chuck adaptation, but having now seen the film, he described it as “a happiness machine.” King’s review, of course, is the most important one of all, so The Life of Chuck couldn’t be off on a better foot here.

Of course, the artistic firepower behind the production has long suggested a homerun. Tom Hiddleston headlines a cast that also features Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, David Dastmalchian, Carl Lumbly, and Heather Langenkamp. Weaving it all together is writer-director Mike Flanagan, who Netflix subscribers will recognize as that horror storyteller that you should never, ever bet against (see: The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher).

The Life of Chuck follows—surprise surprise—a man named Chuck, whose mundane yet profound life takes center stage as the world begins to literally fall apart. What sets The Life of Chuck apart from its post-apocalyptic brethren, however, is its very pure commitment to hope. The end of the world isn’t played as a disaster worthy of all of our screams, but as an upheaval of social pressure that allows human beings to speak to each other with unprecedented sincerity.

If that sounds timely, that’s because it is. As Flanagan puts it in the same Vanity Fair article, “the sense that [our society] is breaking down, that the world is moving on, has been increasingly palpable.” He makes particular note of the degradation of politics, which has indeed mutated into a horrifically combative machine that exists to divide rather than unite.

The Life of Chuck, then, has preemptively marked itself not as a call to action, but a call to permission. Permission to love one another and cherish the feeling of pure experience. To be fearless about owning our insecurities, whether they’re trivial or existential. To relentlessly seek out life’s beauty both in spite of and because of life’s pain.

Indeed, it’s a far cry from the usual Flanagan meal, but The Life of Chuck might just also be exactly the one we all need. The film will premiere at TIFF on Sept. 6, where it will hopefully be picked up by a major distributor.

All modern ‘Doctor Who’ companions from NuWho, ranked worst to best https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/all-modern-doctor-who-companions-from-nuwho-ranked-worst-to-best/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/all-modern-doctor-who-companions-from-nuwho-ranked-worst-to-best/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2023 22:02:03 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1615250 Bad Wolf, the Girl Who Waited, or the Impossible Girl?]]>

Doctor Who fans are always debating their favorite incarnation of the titular character, but what about the companions who serve as the main POVs for the story?

While the so-called “NuWho” has only gone through a handful of Doctors, this new era has featured a host of companions. From those early days when the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler ran from adventure to adventure, to the days when Donna Noble constantly challenged Ten, and even the Girl Who Waited and the Impossible Girl and every other enigmatically titled girl showrunner Steven Moffat incorporated into his tenure, here are all of Doctor Who companions from the 2005 reboot, ranked worst to best.

16. Dan Lewis

Dan Lewis, portrayed by the amazingly talented John Bishop, only appeared in one season during Jodie Whittaker’s final run as the Thirteenth Doctor. While the character was charming — if maybe a tad too eager to go flying off with an alien — he did manage to go down as one of the recurring faces in modern Who. It’s just a shame that he also happened to star in one of the show’s worst seasons, narrative-wise.

15. Ryan Sinclair

Ryan Sinclair is another one of former showrunner Chris Chibnall’s creations that never really stuck the landing, nor became relatable for fans. There was a brief period where Ryan’s clash with his biological father gave us some measure of real drama, but that can be easily overlooked in an otherwise convoluted tenure. It’s worth noting, of course, that Ryan’s disability works rather well in the context of the story, but that doesn’t go a long way toward redeeming him as a character.

14. Yasmin Khan

Yasmin was kind, just, steadfast, and loyal. And as Whovians will tell you, that’s the perfect combination for a Doctor Who companion. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Yasmin was brilliant in her own right. The only problem was her episodes, and Jodie Whittaker’s tenure as a whole, which failed to give us any memorable moments. I can perfectly recall the image of the lawful police officer running alongside the Doctor in different scenarios, but there’s never really anything setting her apart.

12. Graham O’Brien

Graham is the only character from Chibnall’s ensemble that really worked. His seemingly infinite wisdom, his humble bearings, and his quick wit all helped turn him into a memorable companion playing opposite Jodie Whittaker. Frankly, Graham is so cool that we wouldn’t say no to having him return at some point during Ncuti Gatwa’s run.

13. Mickey Smith

Mickey was always a fun addition during Russell T. Davies’ first era as showrunner. As a former boyfriend of Rose Tyler, Mickey goes on numerous adventures and even plays a pivotal role in some of the season finales. While originally coming off as an incompetent bystander, Mickey grows into the role of hero and becomes a soldier by “Journey’s End.” He also has a lot of comic relief moments, which is why we him fondly even after all these years.

11. Wilfred Mott

The late Bernard Cribbins didn’t have to give so much energy to Wilfred Mott, but his one-of-a-kind acting chops turned Wilfred into one of the Doctor’s greatest companions. Sure, he only followed Tennant’s incarnation around for two episodes, but that timeless portrayal of Donna’s grandfather is something we’ll never forget. After a decade, Cribbins returned to portray Wilfred one last time in 2023’s Doctor Who 60th anniversary special.

10. Bill Potts

Bill Potts came into the Doctor’s life in a very pivotal moment, but the way Steven Moffat’s last season as showrunner was structured didn’t give her a lot of leeway to truly come to life on the small screens. Still, we think Bill is one of the finer companions in the reboot ensemble, and we hope to see her again somewhere down the line.

9. Nardole

Nardole was, hands down, the funniest companion since Doctor Who‘s revival in 2005. The brilliant Matt Lucas portrayed the perfect comic relief character, and his addition to season 10 was one of the best decisions the producers made in the Peter Capaldi era. Besides, let’s not forget that Nardole is a badass, and there’s nothing secret about it, babydoll. If you know, you know.

8. Martha Jones

A lot of people in the Whovian community think Martha Jones was underrated, and I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. Freema Agyeman had a tough act to follow after Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, but she still managed to turn Martha into one of the most iconic characters in NuWho. The only reason we won’t rank Martha any higher on the list is because of her short-lived run, lasting only one season.

7. Rory Williams

If Doctor Who was South Park, then Rory Williams’ name would’ve been Kenny McCormick. It’s utterly hilarious how many times Arthur Darvill’s character dies on-screen in Doctor Who, but that’s not what really makes him such an iconic member of Eleventh’s gang. Rory is incredibly brave, exceptionally loyal, and utterly unmoved by the sheer absurdity of traveling all of time and space inside a police telephone box. We all love our Last Centurion.

6. Jack Harkness

Jack Harkness is the more unhinged version of The Doctor, embracing their humane side and riding it to absolute hilarity. Jack was so well-received by fans that he eventually got his own spinoff in the form of Torchwood, running counter to the titular protagonist and protecting Earth from all extraterrestrial threats. Jack is the embodiment of chaotic neutral, so it’s no wonder that The Doctor can barely tolerate his presence on some of the adventures.

5. Donna Noble

Donna Noble is someone you don’t want anywhere near the TARDIS when it decides to throw a fit. She was a companion to the Tenth Doctor in season 4, and though her run was just as brief as Martha Jones’s, Donna somehow managed to become an iconic part of Doctor Who in its long history.

4. River Song

River has one of the most ambitious narrative arcs in the entire Doctor Who timeline. When you meet her first in season 4, she’s an archeologist from the Doctor’s future. Little did we know that she would turn out to be the most important person in his life. River returns in season 5, and his identity is finally revealed through a shocking twist in season 6, bringing her story full circle. She might not have been a regular companion, but you never really expect River to pop up until she does.

3. Amelia Pond

Moffat tried to take Doctor Who back to some of those fairy tale roots, so of course he wrote Amelia Pond as “the Girl Who Waited,” a perfect complement to Smith’s Raggedy Doctor. Karen Gillan portrayed Amy for three seasons, becoming the longest-standing companion until that time. Amelia was hilarious, nonchalant, and ive, turning into the new Doctor’s best friend until her final episode in 2012.

2. Rose Tyler

It’s very difficult to pinpoint exactly where Rose belongs on this list, but she’s definitely among the top three companions in NuWho. The character first made her debut in 2005 next to Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor, and it was in part thanks to her energy that Doctor Who managed to overcome years of insipid obscurity and become a sensation in the U.K. again. She had the best chemistry with David Tennant, and their relationship — often bordering on an impossible romance — emotionally traumatizes Whovians even to this day.

1. Clara Oswald

I’m well aware that this might be a controversial pick for the first spot. Due to her bossy personality, Clara often clashed with the Doctor in ways that fans didn’t necessarily find appealing, but because of that very trait, the character is also a perfectly written companion. Clara and the Doctor became very co-dependant and started to mimic each other’s personalities, and the strength of their bond was such that it threatened to unravel all of time and space. Clara may not have been the most awesome companion, but she certainly changed and challenged the Doctor the most.

Who is the most underrated hero of the MCU? No, I’m not talking, say, Moon Knight or Mantis. The correct answer to that question should be Sarah Halley Finn, Marvel Studios’ expert casting director who’s been with the franchise all along. Finn really should be recognized as the MCU’s secret weapon as it’s thanks to her never-ending procession of spot-on casting choices that Marvel has been able to continually and consistently put out hit after hit and supply many of the most beloved movie characters in modern film history.

However, although those perfectly cast actors might seem clearly the best choices for their characters in hindsight, finding the right person to play Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has been a Herculean achievement every single time, with the MCU almost taking some very different turns on numerous occasions. As Finn revealed to Vanity Fair, there are many near-miss Marvel hero castings that came close to coming to . These days, it’s fascinating to look back on them and, like the Watcher, ponder the question, “What if…">Keanu can still play a new version of Ghost Rider.

After almost a year of waiting, we’re finally inching close to the 60th-anniversary special of Doctor Who, which is resurrecting David Tennant and Donna Noble after more than a decade of absence.

Since the announcement that the two fan-favorite characters were making a return, Whovians have been speculating about a possible return for other incarnations and companions, like Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor and Peter Capaldi’s 12th, not to mention Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond or Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald.

Well, it seems that returning showrunner Russell T. Davies is already teasing more cameos. The official Instagram for Doctor Who recently posted a teaser of the 60th, and Davies replied to the clip by posting a cryptic, emoji-laden message.

Now some fans are speculating (per RadioTimes) that the emojis haven’t been chosen at random. Below you can see Russell’s reply:

Instagram

Could the apple be referring to Amy Pond? You’ll , of course, from that incarnation’s first episode, “The Eleventh Hour,” where Amy decided to trust the Doctor after he showed her an apple she’d given him 12 years before that day.

via Twitter

For that matter, it seems that the clock emoji is showing the 12th hour, hinting at Peter Capaldi’s long overdue return. Is the Magician finally returning to the TARDIS after his last episode in 2017?

via Twitter

Of course, this could be Russell T. Davies just cruelly teasing Whovians at this point. Then again, it could also be a not-so-cleverly disguised hint. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time RTD has tried something like this. But I guess we’ll learn the truth for ourselves one way or another when the 60th anniversary premieres this November on The BBC.

Karen Gillan reacts after a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ co-star is spotted heading out for a snack https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/karen-gillan-reacts-after-a-guardians-of-the-galaxy-co-star-is-spotted-heading-out-for-a-snack/ Fri, 02 Jun 2023 13:31:42 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1504786 What a sneaky little fella.]]>

It’s a common occurrence for co-stars to get closer to one another as shooting progresses, so since the Guardians of the Galaxy cast are on their third outing together, it’s no surprise they’re as close as can be. So close, in fact, that when one of them does anything of note, the others must react to it, be it good or bad. And that’s exactly what our Nebula, Karen Gillan, did.

But Gillan might be getting her wires crossed a little since this wasn’t exactly a co-star of hers. There’s a viral video going around that shows a raccoon getting a donut from a Dunkin’ drive-thru. Gillan took to Twitter to articulate what we were all thinking. Rocket, is that you?

Saving the entire galaxy and defending Knowhere isn’t an easy task, nor is it one to be performed on an empty stomach. We can’t blame Rocket for wanting to stop off for a quick bite to eat. Regardless, it’s Gillan’s reaction that truly encapsulates how hilarious this moment is. It’s even funnier once we learn that the entire Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was basically a love letter to Rocket Raccoon fans.

It’s been all eyes on Bradley Cooper’s Rocket since Vol. 3 released as we uncover more of Rocket’s past and learn of his encounters with the High Evolutionary, a sinister being who performs barbaric experiments on children and animals in the hopes of creating the “perfect” species to inhabit his new world, Counter-Earth. We find out that Rocket went through a lot of trauma before meeting the Guardians, including losing three of his best friends aboard the HE’s ship.

As for Karen Gillan, there’s never a dull moment when she’s around. She really is the total opposite of her Marvel character.

Karen Gillan has definitely evolved her career over the last decade, though if you compare the role she is most well known for (that being the MCU’s Nebula), to the role that kicked it all off for her, there are some similarities. The Scottish actress is proudly celebrating 14 years since she was officially announced as the new companion in Doctor Who, Amy Pond.

Doctor Who is a beloved British sci-fi series with a global reputation, with the Time Lord simply known as The Doctor whisking off earth-born companions around all of space and time, the series is essentially a never-ending escapade. 14 years ago to date, Gillan was announced as the new companion to Matt Smith’s new iteration of The Doctor, and the two of them did wonderful things together.

Much like her MCU character, Amy Pond, traveled through space, though her own mode of transportation was a little more high-tech, with the Doctor’s TARDIS being able to take the pair to almost any point in space and time. She fought off aliens and monsters, saw civilizations old and new, and helped those in need wherever she could. She may not have been as physically strong as Nebula, and certainly more human, but Amy had an inner strength that audiences saw time and time again, making her such an endearing part of the series.

The actress starred in the show from its fifth season to mid-way through the seventh season, where she met a somewhat tragic end in a shocking twist. Fans loved the actress in the series, finding her chemistry with both Smith as The Doctor and also Authur Darvill as her romantic interest turned husband Rory Williams, to be exceedingly fun to watch. This role certainly kicked things off for Gillan, as she then went on to star as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy a year later.

She has since starred in massive hits such as her continued work in the MCU, her role in the Jumanji reboot, and the COVID comedy The Bubble, among many others. You can see her now in theatres in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

We’ve spoken about the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Curse and the Eternals Curse, but, honestly, the whole of the Multiverse Saga has faced its fair share of bad luck at this point. For instance, as yet another of Marvel Studios’ productions is forced to hit the pause button, the number of movies that can actually feasibly make it out before Phase Five ends is swiftly dwindling. On the plus side, at least folks are realizing the grand cosmic reason why we had to sit through the aforementioned Ant-Man 3.

As Thunderbolts s the Indefinitely Delayed Club, Marvel has just 2 Phase Five films running smoothly

Yes, Thunderbolts has become the latest Marvel production to be forced to halt due to the impact of the WGA Strike, following on from both Blade and Wonder Man. While Captain America: New World Order is shooting, Deadpool 3 which likewise just entered production — is actually set to launch Phase Six when it releases in November 2024. So with Thunderbolts and Blade due in July and September next year respectively, they are running out of time to get going before they cause the entire Multiverse Saga schedule to fall like dominoes. To be clear, I’m not blaming the striking writers. Hurry up and pay them properly, Hollywood!

With Quantumania well and truly in our rearview mirror now that it’s finally on Disney Plus, Superhero fans are actually starting to realize the upside to enduring the mercilessly criticized threequel. With early reviews for both DC’s The Flash and Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming in this week and being wildly positive in nature, it seems like the universe was simply testing our commitment to this genre by making us sit through the MCU’s t worst-reviewed movie ever only to then treat us to three popular offerings back-to-back, if you include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

James Gunn and Karen Gillan’s bombshell means Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 could turn into a Marvel soap opera

Speaking of which, the MCU fandom is also currently chewing over the potential impact that a surprising revelation from James Gunn could have on the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The director has confirmed that Karen Gillan believes Nebula has always had a crush on Peter Quill, a concept that he s. With the two of them backing up this claim, that basically makes it canon. So I guess that means we’re headed for Marvel’s most soap-opera storyline ever — a guy getting together with the sister of his ex-girlfriend who came back from the dead? — in Guardians Vol. 4.

The latest announcements, fan reactions, and answers to questions you always wanted to know — like Hailee Steinfeld revealing who would win in a fight between Kate Bishop and Spider-Gwen — will be here a lot sooner than Thunderbolts. Sorry, too soon?

Marvel diehards are convinced Karen Gillan’s MCU potential isn’t limited to Nebula https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/marvel-diehards-are-convinced-karen-gillans-mcu-potential-isnt-limited-to-nebula/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/marvel-diehards-are-convinced-karen-gillans-mcu-potential-isnt-limited-to-nebula/#respond Wed, 24 May 2023 01:10:32 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1498298 Fans believe that there is more that 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor, Karen Gillan, has to offer the MCU, if we remove the blue paint.]]>

Karen Gillan‘s character of Nebula has been a staple of the MCU for some time now. Kickstarting things off back in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, the actress showed her commitment to the role by actually shaving all her hair off to play the blue, bald-headed, cybernetically enhanced alien. But fans believe there is more on offer for Gillan than she has played so far.

Gillan is a talented actress, one who got her start playing Amy Pond in the popular BBC series Doctor Who. She has since made the leap across to Hollywood and has starred as a prominent character in the MCU and also in the Jumanji franchise among others. She has appeared in a number of MCU projects, notably the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise helmed by James Gunn, but she also made an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Despite having played such a prominent role, many believe there is more than Gillan could do within the MCU outside of Nebula. It wouldn’t be the first time that an actor has taken on more than one role within the franchise. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the notable superhero Doctor Strange and also provided the voice of the dimensional villain Dormamu in his first movie. Most recently actress Linda Cardellini gave her voice to the character of Lylla, Rocket’s otter friend, but you have also seen Cardellini in the MCU already as Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s wife.

Perhaps the most obvious comparison we can make is that of actress Gemma Chan. She too was covered in blue in her first role for the MCU, as Minerva in Captain Marvel. That didn’t stop Marvel execs from bringing Chan back to star as Sersi in Eternals, sans blue makeup. Fans believe this is definitely something that could be done in the case of Gillan, who would look completely different without all the prosthetics and bald cap.

Many point out the fact that Chan has already done just this.

Others also note that Gillan doesn’t use her natural Scottish accent as Nebula, so if she were to go back to that it would be easier to separate her from her current role.

Gillan actually made a short appearance in Doctor Who before she became Amy Pond. They must have liked her so much that they asked her back.

It all depends on what execs and directors want though at the end of the day.

And you never know, Gunn might want to snag her to be a part of his new DC Universe.

Gillan has been a part of the MCU for over a decade so she may want to go on and find new challenges outside of it, potentially coming back for cameos in the future rather than playing Nebula as a main role again. We never know though, perhaps there is a lot more the Scottish actress has to offer the franchise before she finally calls it quits.

James Gunn connects Marvel to one of Stephen King’s best works following author’s glowing ‘The Flash’ review https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/james-gunn-connects-marvel-to-one-of-stephen-kings-best-works-following-authors-glowing-the-flash-review/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/james-gunn-connects-marvel-to-one-of-stephen-kings-best-works-following-authors-glowing-the-flash-review/#respond Thu, 18 May 2023 05:31:15 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1494225 The horror genre can cross over in the superhero movies.]]>

In celebration of Stephen King finally liking a superhero film in the form of DC’s The Flash, Guardians of the Galaxy director and DC Studios’ co-head James Gunn went on to Twitter just to prove that the superhero genre could crossover to the horror scene.

Gunn shared an image of Karen Gillan and her stunt double during the shooting of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director left a simple caption that reads, “The Shining ’23,” a reference to a horror film based on one of King’s novels. The image has a strong striking resemblance to the Grady Twins, characters from both the books and films that were killed by their father and haunt the Overlook Hotel.

King has not responded to Gunn’s tweet that referenced his iconic horror novel. However, fans had a good laugh seeing that the director was able to recreate one of the most iconic scenes in horror cinema.

King attended the advanced screening for DC’s The Flash, despite his history of him claiming that he isn’t a fan of the superhero films. The author gave the film positive reviews and Gunn confirmed his attendance, because fans were understandably a little sketpical. The author’s comments are one of many praises this DC blockbuster received thanks to early screenings.

During CinemaCon 2023, The Flash had a worldwide premiere, which featured a near-complete cut of the film. Despite its incomplete nature, audiences praised Ezra Miller’s performance despite his controversies and claimed that this was the best superhero film they’ve seen. Critics did warn keen moviegoers to take these praises with a grain of salt and to wait until the film comes out on June 16, 2023.

It’s time to think out of the box if a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star is in the running for Lex Luthor https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/its-time-to-think-out-of-the-box-if-a-guardians-of-the-galaxy-star-is-in-the-running-for-lex-luthor/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/its-time-to-think-out-of-the-box-if-a-guardians-of-the-galaxy-star-is-in-the-running-for-lex-luthor/#respond Mon, 15 May 2023 01:24:57 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1491481 With the hunt for the Superman cast in full swing, one name has popped up to play the bald-headed 'Superman' villain.]]>

The hunt for the new cast of DC’s reboot of Superman is underway and the rumor mill is working hard. Already we have heard of a handful of front runners, but some sources indicate that James Gunn may be picking a certain villainous character from amongst his Guardians of the Galaxy cast, and now we have an interesting contender to add to the mix.

Lex Luthor is an iconic villain and the foil of Superman who uses his wealth to find new and creative ways to take down a literal godlike man. The role has been played by multiple actors in the past, from Kevin Spacey in Superman Returns (2006) to Gene Hackman in Superman (1978), to the much-maligned version of the character played by Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

Now, Gunn is looking for new blood to take on the part, and with rumors swirling that he has spoken to a Guardians cast member, some people think he could go for a completely out-of-the-box approach altogether, and cast Karen Gillan.

This is probably to do with the fact that the actress has already sported the classic bald-headed look that Lex Luthor is so known for when she shaved off all her hair for the first Guardians of the Galaxy film to play the role of Nebula. Though she has since grown her hair out and instead opts to wear a bald cap instead, we know that she can rock the look. It’s not a look that a lot of Hollywood actresses usually opt for, though when they do it makes a strong statement; think Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta, or Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Now, it is very unlikely this will actually be the case, but if they were to go a little more left-field with their casting we would applaud them. It would be very interesting to see this role gender swapped, and have a powerful, wealthy, and slightly unhinged female antagonist to foil Superman.

However, it would appear that British actor Nicholas Hoult is currently ahead in the race to play the villain after a short list of actors made its way into the public eye. He is currently the only actor who appears to be in consideration for the character, and we know for a fact that he has the range to take it on. With only speculation to go on though, we must be patient and wait for an announcement from Gunn and DC as to who we will be booing in theatres next.
