Agatha All Along might’ve come away empty-handed from this weekend’s Golden Globes ceremony, but that doesn’t mean Marvel fans should feel despondent. The fact that the critically acclaimed Disney Plus series earned the nomination that it did offers a big ol’ hint that there’s more on the way from Agatha Harkness and her chaotic coven, and Kathryn Hahn teased the possibility of some exciting news to come on the night itself.

Hahn earned her first ever Golden Globes nomination for her turn as the ambiguously wicked witch, but it’s actually the specific category she was nominated for that fans should pay attention to. The WandaVision spinoff’s star faced stiff competition in the race for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series, and although she lost to Hacks‘ Jean Smart, the fact that Marvel chose to categorize Agatha this way rather than as a Limited Series may be an even bigger win.

One clip of Hahn teasing what this could mean on the event’s red carpet went viral, as Westview warriors suggested the actress knows more than she’s saying. “That is a great question, none of us have any idea,” Hahn said when asked about the chances of more Agatha. “But it certainly is… Our ears are perked up, for sure.” Fans weren’t buying the Parks & Recreation alum pleading the fifth. “OH SHE KNOWS SOMETHING,” read @wandasattorney’s caption.

Does Kathryn Hahn really know something about the future of Agatha?

On the one hand, Hahn may well be speaking the truth when claiming that none of the show’s cast, and probably also crew, know anything about an Agatha All Along season 2. We’re aware all too well that Marvel takes its sweet, sweet time in greenlighting more episodes of its TV series — see the mystery surrounding the fate of Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and others years after they premiered. That said, it’s highly likely that she knows at least something about where Agatha the characters goes next.

AAA ended with a huge status quo change for Ms. Harkness by going so far as to kill her off and then resurrect her as a ghost. It’s clear that the next leg of Agatha’s MCU journey will see her act as a spirit guide to Joe Locke’s Wiccan as he sets about finding his lost twin brother, Tommy/Speed. We’re expecting this to occur in the Vision Quest show, although it should be noted this hails from a different creative team than WV and AAA.

This was such a specific set-up for Agatha that it stands to reason Marvel has some particular plan in place for her, so Hahn has surely been given some heads-up over where she’ll appear next. No doubt she’ll have a cameo in Vision Quest, at the very least, with a role in the much-rumored Scarlet Witch movie also a possibility. In true Agatha style, Hahn may well be telling us the truth while simultaneously holding back the full facts.

Whatever happens, we’re unlikely to see Agatha again this calendar year, as Vision Quest isn’t scheduled to hit streaming until 2026. But, hang on in there, witches and warlocks — just there’s glory at the end.

People love Kathryn Hahn, to say the least. The Agatha All Along star reached new levels of fame and acclaim with that character, and she got to show off her singing chops a few times in the show as well. Well, now people want her to use that witchy voice once again in a different Disney movie: the live-action Tangled remake.

As which character? Why, Mother Gothel of course. Is there a better person on this blue earth to play that character? Is there? It’s hard to imagine who that could be. Seriously, just look at the easy resemblance.

So what does Agatha herself have to say about all this? In an interview with ET‘s Denny Directo on the red carpet of the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Hahn gave us all hope. When asked if she would be interested in it, she responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!”

“I mean, I’m really good at karaoke,” she said. She then elaborated on what it was like to sing “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” a catchy, fun and popular song from the show.

“Singing next to Patti LuPone really humbles you,” she revealed. “You get really quiet because [you’re like], ‘What is that? An angel?'”

Hahn is only the fourth actor in the MCU to be nominated for a Golden Globe. Before her came Angela Bassett in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen in WandaVision. Hahn’s official category is Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

She’s facing some pretty steep competition, actually. She’s up against Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Jean Smart (Hacks), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary).

She also shared just where she was when she found out she was nominated for the coveted role. “I was on my way to my OBGYN when I got the call. I mean, I sat in the car on the way there and I saw so many texts that I was like, ‘what’s happening?'”

One of the great things about Agatha All Along is the fact that it’s not a limited series, meaning we’re definitely going to get more Agatha in the future. Hahn didn’t always know that was going to be the case.

“When we saw that it was nominated in this category we all got very excited about some possibilities. … Agatha is everything you want as an actor in one part.”

The news that we’re going to get a live-action Tangled remake is only about a week old at this point. The original came out in 2010, so it’s primed for a revival for a brand new generation. The movie was a take on the Brothers Grimm story about a princess with incredibly long hair locked in a tower.

Mother Gothel keeps the princess, named Rapunzel, in the tower to keep her youthful. She’s eventually rescued by a charismatic thief named Flynn Rider. No news yet about casting, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.

2024 has been a great year for people who like witches, because it offers a wide variety of wonderful characters. Kathryn Hahn reprised her WandaVision role, Agatha, in her spinoff sequel Agatha All Along, with Ariana Grande taking the role of Glinda the Good in Wicked. And while the characters can’t interact in fiction, in real life, Grande and Hahn gave us the crossover we never knew we needed.

Agatha continued to be as conniving as we’ve experienced in WandaVision, plotting again and finding ways to get her magic back after Wanda entrapped her. However, Hahn gave us so much more than we expected, with brand-new musical numbers, and a series of killer outfits. Meanwhile, the superstar Grande gave us the Glinda of our dreams with her rendition of the Good Witch in the first of the two-part musical adaptation of Wicked, alongside Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

While canonically, Grande’s Glinda and Hahn’s Agatha won’t be able to interact, we got a glimpse of how powerful the team-up would be in real life.

‘Glinda All Along’ is the sweetest interaction you’ll see today

Both Grande and Hahn attended the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Luncheon on Dec. 17, 2024. The event featured more actors like Pamela Anderson, Adam Brody, and Zoe Saldana, but it was the interaction between Grande and Hahn that stole everyone’s hearts.

Several videos surfaced online showing the two stars meeting and casually chatting. The two women seemed thrilled to meet each other and, in one clip, Grande can be heard telling Kathryn, “I have loved you forever. I love you so much,” as Variety captioned the moment, “two witches walk into a bar.”

“THE DUO I NEEDED,” wrote an ecstatic fan in the comments. “This has been the season of the witch, and we are LIVING for it!!” highlighted another. “this is my multiverse of madness, the crossover of the century, this is the queer media they speak of,” shared a different .

The singer wore a vintage champagne satin gown with a belt at the waist, a 1959 Christian Dior by Yves Saint Laurent, further enhancing her delicate features while pulling her away from the signature pink shades she’d worn for the Wicked tour. Grande paired it with sheer tights and beige Jimmy Choo pumps, accessorizing with Swarovski jewelry and bringing back her ponytail, with elegant light makeup and brown lips.

Hahn, meanwhile, opted for a more casual ensemble, going for an oversized chiffon olive top-inspired pleated blazer with matching pants and gold metallic-pointed heels, her hair falling down in curls. She accessorized with drop earrings, and natural makeup.

Agatha All Along pays tribute to The Wizard of Oz

Agatha All Along is a cinephile’s dream come true, as it pays homage to different cult classic moments and eras. In episode 7, one of the trials down the Witches’ Road turned the remaining witches into Disney characters, with Agatha becoming Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. Agatha comments during the episode that The Wizard of Oz drew inspiration for Elphaba from her, which is why the outfit was fitting.

There were many other references to The Wizard of Oz, including Agatha calling the Teen “Toto.” Even the coven of witches can represent The Wizard of Oz counterparts, as Agatha is Dorothy, with the Teen as Toto, Rio the Wicked Witch, Jen the Scarecrow, Alice the Tin Man, and Lilia the Lion, among others.

Now that Grande and Hahn met in real life, it gave us the Glinda-Agatha interaction that was missing.

We’ve been under Agatha Harkness’ spell from the very first moment she sashayed into WandaVision. So, when Agatha All Along, her very own spinoff, dropped earlier this year, fans were glued to Disney Plus to see what mischief Marvel’s cunning witch would conjure up next. 

But now that season 1 has come and gone, the big question is: are we getting a season 2? If you’ve been scouring the internet for answers or refreshing your X feed in desperation, you’ve probably come across some polarizing rumors about the witches’ fate. Well, Kathryn Hahn, the queen of sinister smiles herself, isn’t giving too much away either.

What did Kathryn Hahn say about a potential season 2 of Agatha All Along?

In a recent interview with Variety, Kathryn Hahn addressed the swirling rumors with the blend of charm and mystery she’s become known for. While she’d be thrilled to step back into Agatha’s heels and jacket, she revealed that Marvel Studios hasn’t sent her any updates. 

We always thought of [Agatha All Along] as a trilogy with the Vision show, but who knows? They run a tight ship over there. I’ve heard nothing.

Hahn’s comments have fans speculating that Marvel might be planning a larger narrative arc involving Agatha and Vision—especially since the latter’s storyline was left wide open after WandaVision. If you’re still holding onto hope, Hahn gave us another nugget during her chat on the Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast. Reflecting on her time filming the first season, she called it an “amazing” experience and shared how much she loved working with the cast. And when Jesse pressed her about season 2, Hahn stayed coy but hinted at a broader Marvel strategy. 

No. I mean, I donʼt know. All I’ve heard is that there is a trilogy. Next one would be focused on Vision. That always has been the long game.

With a potential trilogy in the works, this little tidbit might explain why Marvel hasn’t rushed to announce a second season of Agatha All Along. But Agatha is, in fact, part of a much bigger picture. Whatever storylines they’re saving for the sinister witch, the pieces of the puzzle are definitely falling into place.

So, is season 2 happening?

According to recent reports from Production Bulletin, a second season might already be in the works, with production slated to begin in fall 2025 at Trilith Studios in Georgia. Even the series creator, Jac Schaeffer, stated that he hoped that the MCU would have time to unpack Agatha and Rio’s backstory. However, Marvel hasn’t confirmed a second season of Agatha All Along. While reports about production plans sound promising, the studio is notorious for playing its cards close to the chest. Add Kathryn Hahn’s cryptic yet playful remarks to the mix, and we’re left with more questions than answers.

For now, all we can do is rewatch Agatha All Along, soak in Kathryn Hahn’s Emmy-worthy performance, and hope Marvel doesn’t keep us waiting too long. Whether Agatha returns for a second season, a Vision storyline, or something entirely new, let’s cross our fingers and toes that Hahn graces our screens soon enough.

Despite — or maybe because of — its unparalleled global popularity, the MCU hasn’t usually been an awards magnet, but now and again there’s a Marvel movie or show that makes such a splash the major awards bodies have to sit up and take notice. Speaking of, Wanda and Vision need to make room as Agatha Harkness has now ed them in a very exclusive club.

Agatha All Along becomes only the third MCU project to do this at the Golden Globes

The full nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes are in, and for the third year in a row Marvel Studios has received at least one nomination. Congratulations to our favorite wicked witch Kathryn Hahn for landing a seat at the table for the Best Female Performance in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy category.

With Hahn up against such heavyweights as Jean Smart (Hacks), Quinta Brunson (Abbot Elementary), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), a win is by no means in the bag. Even so, in this case it really is an honor just to be nominated as this ups Marvel’s acting Golden Globe noms by a whole 25%. Hahn is only the fourth MCU star to gain recognition at the Globes in its entire history.

Although this is the MCU’s 10th Globes nomination overall, it is only the third to be handed to one of its TV series. Unsurprisingly, it was Black Panther that broke through first of all, landing three noms for Best Motion Picture — Drama, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song in 2019. Fast forward to 2022 and sequel Wakanda Forever landed another Best Original Song nod, alongside Angela Bassett actually winning for Best ing Actress — Motion Picture. That same year, both Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany received Best Actress and Best Actor in a Miniseries nods.

In 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 then cropped up in the newly minted Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. This feat has been repeated again this year, with Deadpool & Wolverine likewise finding itself among the category’s nominees. So that makes two Golden Globes nominations for Marvel going into 2025 and seven in three years. Not too shabby for a franchise that couldn’t even scrounge up a single nom for its first decade.

Whether Hahn pulls a Bassett and wins or not, by achieving this accolade she’s already proven the Ballad of the Witches Road right — there really was glory at the end. With any luck, this will help convince Marvel to make good on all those rumors of a second season being in the works.

Agatha All Along has come to an end and it needs to be seen to be believed. The final episodes take a sharp turn, delving into Agatha’s (Kathryn Hahn) backstory and giving Billy (Joe Locke) his superhero moment.

As Agatha correctly predicted, Billy is his mother’s son. He takes after his mother, the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and dons the most dramatic garb to save Agatha from Rio, aka Lady Death (Aubrey Plaza). With a shining crown befitting Wanda’s true son and a billowing cape, Billy has officially taken over his birthright as the comic character Wiccan. Locke opened up to Deadline about the outfit and the little details fans may have missed upon the first watch.

“There’s runes on it. Like his jumper, there’s a Wand crown and a Vision mind stone on each side of his leather 3D printed top. The attention to detail is amazing. On my normal road look jeans, there’s a square on the knee of leather, and it’s the same leather that they use then on the costume. We had it so the jumper would get red and more red and red after I get stabbed in episode four, and then that turns into the cape. So it’s almost like the road kit turns slowly into the Wiccan kit.”

All while Billy has been walking the Witch’s Road, more than enough attention has been devoted to his maternal influence. There is no questioning that he came from Wanda. However, not enough respect has been devoted to the robot father who raised him within Wanda’s hex. Last fans saw Vision, he was a reconstructed version of his former self, relearning the memories of his life with Wanda. Paul Bettany will reprise Vision again soon, but his previous life is just as important. Billy’s costume refers to his cybernetic father and the good influence he had on him in his early memories.

Wanda is the powerhouse of the family, but Vision is the soul. He tried to get Wanda to stay grounded and be a good role model for their made-up children. Billy is now officially real and on the lookout for his missing brother, Tommy. Maybe the Maximoff family isn’t so fractured after all.

Agatha All Along had many revelations

When Agatha and what remains of her coven finish the Road, viewers are gobsmacked with the truth of the situation. The Road was never real. It was just a story that Agatha used to tell before Billy made it real with his impressive reality-bending powers. These were all satisfying twists, but the heart of the story is an emotional one. The entire time, Agatha was bonding with Billy because of the child she also lost. Fans finally see the truth of what happened, and it is not what rumors would have anyone believe.

In the 1700s, Agatha made her son Nicholas from scratch and loved him as much as any mother would. He aided her in killing witches for power and even devised the origins of the Witches’ Road song. But death comes calling for him and as it turns out, it was inevitable. Upon his birth, Agatha pleads with Rio to not take Nicholas and she agrees, but only for a short time. Rio gives him years but eventually takes him in his sleep when he’s six years old. This is a devastating realization, explaining how Agatha could go so wrong later and the resentment she holds toward her former lover.

Agatha All Along pulls everything together in the final confrontation when the titular character sacrifices herself for Billy. She’ll never it it, but he was a proxy for the son she lost. Billy coming into his own is something her son never got the chance to do and it bonds them forever. Literally.

Most actors crave an Oscar or even the much-coveted EGOT, but Kathryn Hahn seems positively pleased as punch to be the new recipient of a much more niche yet still history-making accolade.

For those unaware, Hahn became the first woman to bare her naked buttocks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to her title role in Agatha All Along. While this groundbreaking feat was criminally overlooked by the Emmys and whoever’s in charge of monitoring EGOT hopefuls, Hahn got flowers for her butt-bearing feat during a recent interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show. 

“You do realize you are the first woman to show your butt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?” the host told Hahn. In perhaps the purest example of girls ing girls, Hudson said she had gotten something for Hahn “to commemorate that moment,” before whipping out an Agatha-purple (on par with Brat-green at this point) plaque inscribed with what will now become Hahn’s defining crowning glory, superseding even that hilarious scene from Step Brothers. 

“First Woman to Show Her Butt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” the plaque read, prompted well-earned pride from the butt-bearer herself. “This is the best,” Hahn exclaimed while receiving the award, before hopefully joking that it meant she “can quit now.” The actress said receiving the award feels like “I walked on the moon,” opening up the possibility for an even more niche award for the first person to bare their butt while on the moon. Elon Musk will probably (and regrettably) get that. 

For all her history-making efforts, Hahn is actually the second person, but first woman, to show their naked butt in a Marvel title, with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor gifting all of us with that honor in 2022’s Love and Thunder. “To know that it’s behind Thor is pretty great,” Hahn said of her fellow recipient. “Thor and me, just our butts encased in gold.” Put both of those encasings on Etsy and I’ll be the first in the queue. 

While it’s not a part of the MCU, fellow superhero title The Boys would probably run out of plaques to give its cast and characters, so plentiful are the bare and often gorily mangled body parts. Elsewhere in the interview, Hahn revealed that the butt scene in Agatha All Along was actually her idea, sparked by a direction in the original script that said “Agatha puts on her robe and goes outside.” 

Since, as Hahn says, Agatha was in “a feral state,” she thought it made sense for the character to be naked, because “she wouldn’t even be thinking about [it.]” It’s not the first time the witchy Marvel entry has made history, with the dual release of the final two episodes marking the first time an MCU TV show has dropped the finale episodes at the same time. 

In yet another surprising moment for the show, a recent episode even channeled Dolly Parton, proving that — with its queer-coded characters and cast of gay icons — Agatha All Along is the campiest Marvel title to date. So camp, in fact, that its star is now receiving awards for the milestone that is baring one’s bum. Kudos to you, Kathryn!

Every episode of Agatha All Along reveals another fascinating piece of the Agatha puzzle. While she features in the Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) episode sparingly, the presence of Kathryn Hahn’s character is felt throughout.

A witch in the era of the Salem Witch Trials, it is no exaggeration to say that Agatha has been around for a long time. Viewers may still have questions about the whereabouts of her son, Nicholas Scratch, but one thing is not up for debate. It certainly seems like Agatha was the inspiration behind Dolly Parton’s landmark banger, “Jolene.” In a blink-and-you-‘ll-miss-it moment, Billy scours the internet to find any clues to his missing brother, landing briefly on a news clipping from the ’70s.

Going by the details Dolly Parton listed in her song, Agatha fits the bill. We can all understand how Agatha can take anyone’s man. According to Billy’s internet search, Jolene was just one of many monikers that Agatha took in her centuries of existence. It also gives credence to what exactly the witch’s many crimes were over the years.

Viewers are given no exact answer as to why Agatha’s mother tried to kill her in the Salem days. Only that she was “born evil.” Billy spots many indicators of this, with Agatha seducing Dolly Parton’s husband on the low end of the spectrum. She also is implied to be responsible for the death of 32 people during the famous Hindenberg crash.

Oh, Jolene.

Only the sole survivor of the Witch’s Road could do such a thing.

Agatha All Along episode 6 offers more juicy details

Episode 6, “Familiar by Thy Side” answers the questions fans have been waiting half a season for. It finally confirms what many of us figured out, which is that Teen is Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) son. This reveal wasn’t too surprising after the Funko reveal, but what was surprising was the way Billy made his way back into the MCU. Because while Teen is Billy Maximoff, he also isn’t.

The flashback-heavy episode shows how Billy made his way to the Witch’s Road with Agatha as his tutor. When the episode opens, it focuses on the bar mitzvah of William Kaplan. Played by Locke, he enjoys a festive celebration of becoming a man before his life is tragically cut short. William dies in a car accident at the exact moment Wanda’s Hex starts to go haywire. WandaVision viewers will Wanda’s sons Tommy and Billy started to disintegrate but it turns out, the latter’s essence went somewhere else. Billy merges with the dead body of William, becoming an amalgamation of the two — even though this erases the events of Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness.

So starts Billiam’s journey to find out who he is. Three years later he finally learns that Agatha was a famous witch and trapped in a spell. Maybe if he releases her and takes her on the Witch’s Road, he can revitalize his other half: Tommy.

Wanda and Vision (Paul Bettany) still have mysterious statuses in the MCU. Wanda appears to be dead but as the Scarlet Witch, there’s probably a way out of that. Viewers haven’t seen Vision since he disappeared in the WandaVision finale. That leaves Tommy who may have the answer to what Billy is missing. With the rest of the coven dead — and Rio (Aubrey Plaza) suspiciously missing, all Billy and Agatha have is each other. The last half of the season is primed to have an even windier journey as the two witches continue their journey down the road.

Marvel films and shows have long been accused of being formulaic. Agatha All Along, however, is proving that there’s still some creativity left in the entertainment juggernaut.

The WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn as the titular Agatha Harkness might still only be midway through its first season, but it has impressed critics and viewers alike. Best of all, the quirky series has managed to do all of this while reportedly being the cheapest live-action series Disney has produced since it bought the rights to the MCU.

Although no official budget has been released for Agatha All Along, the series is said to have been cheaper than the previous least expensive Disney/MCU production, Echo, which cost around $40 million. This is in stark comparison to The Acolyte, which cost around $30 million per episode, totaling $180 million for the entire first season. The budget for Agatha All Along is even more astounding when compared to something like the Avengers franchise. Avengers: Age of Ultron, for example, is said to have cost $365 million, most of which was spent on special effects. Despite only half a season being released, it seems safe to say that Agatha really has managed to stretch its budget effectively.

Some have marketed this as a Marvel achievement, but because this is the internet and we can’t have anything nice, others have taken the very worst interpretation of events, pointing out that this efficient use of a budget might not be a good thing.

Agatha All Along not only has a female lead, but a female-dominated cast, so it isn’t totally unreasonable to think that the relative cheapness of the series is a case of the very real and documented Hollywood gender pay gap rearing its ugly head. With that said, you will always find terrible, pessimistic, and downright wrong takes on social media, and this falls into that category.

There are plenty of more likely explanations for the smaller budget, namely that the series has a comparative lack of CGI in it than many recent MCU products. For something that can often render terribly on-screen, the technology is remarkably expensive. With less of the technology for the showrunners and writers to fall back on, the creative team behind the series seems to have focused on making something good rather than something flashy. After what has felt like an endless kaleidoscope of formulaic plots and over-the-top CGI, Agatha‘s relative realism and reliance on practical effects is a breath of fresh air.

This, plus some great performances from big names like Aubrey Plaza, Debra Jo Rupp, and Patti Lupone, is one of the reasons audiences are appreciating Agatha All Along. While Marvel is known for its star-studded casts, it doesn’t always work out as well as it has with this series (as MCU fans who were excited for Secret Invasion will tell you). There’s also the fact that the show is wrapped up in its own world, ensuring the well-documented MCU continuity errors don’t take away from the experience. In many ways, Agatha All Along is one of the least Marvel-y pieces of content in the franchise, and it’s all the better for it. Perhaps Disney and Marvel are finally learning that you can still do a lot with a little.

Kathryn Hahn has been in the entertainment industry for a long time, but she’s getting more attention now that she’s leading the new Marvel series, Agatha All Along, the spinoff from WandaVision. The actress’s personal life is also attracting a lot of interest, and one popular question is if she’s had any plastic surgery.

Over the years, Hahn delighted everyone with her quick wit and charm as a ing actress in many films, mostly rom-coms, including 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, 2013’s We’re the Millers, and 2022’s Glass Onion. She has also appeared in series like Transparent and Parks & Recreation, and led Tiny Beautiful Things.

In 2021, Kathryn Hahn starred in WandaVision, where she played Wanda’s nosey neighbor, Agnes, after voicing Dr. Octavia “Liv” Octavius in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, she turned out to be a powerful witch named Agatha, and the character has just received a spin-off series, Agatha All Along. With more popularity comes a lot of scrutiny, too, especially after Agatha All Along episode 3, so let’s ask the real question: has she ever gone under the knife?

Kathryn Hahn denies having plastic surgery

It’s 2024, yet plastic surgery still comes with a negative connotation. People — usually women — are harshly judged for altering their appearance via plastic surgery, yet they are also constantly judged if they don’t adhere to the impossible beauty standards. So, when celebrities do go under the knife, they often lie about it (looking at you, JLo and the olive oil comments).

Kathryn Hahn sparked plastic surgery rumors after appearing in an Amazon Back-to-School commercial, where she looked different than her usual self, with more prominent cheekbones and a slimmer nose.

The Transparent star didn’t address the plastic surgery rumors at the time, yet she talked about it in April 2023 during an appearance on Good Morning America. Talking about what advice she’d give her younger self, one of the things she said was being more relaxed about her appearance and, subsequently, her nose. “I would say chill out about your nose, it’s perfect,” she said. Ironically, it’s now her nose that’s raising eyebrows.

In 2021, she also itted that she was feeling braver about wearing no makeup in her late 40s after her skin cleared. She highlighted the importance of good skincare, and teased again that she hasn’t had any plastic surgeries. “I rarely wear makeup in my real life. A lot of the roles that I have done recently, I wear little-to-no makeup,” the WandaVision actress told People. “Oddly, I wore more makeup when I was in my 20s. I feel like I’m wearing less and less the older I get.”

Hahn itted at the time, “I wore a ton of makeup until I got my acne under control,” and added that her skin cleared after having kids, and shared that “I have a big skincare routine every morning. I wash my face. I have a toner. I have a bunch of serums. I love a face oil. The older I get, I’ve been definitely investing in skincare.” 

Her slimmer nose doesn’t change the rounded tip, so a rhinoplasty procedure seems unlikely. However, Botox could be an alternative, although some fine lines on her forehead seem to suggest that she is not a regular . The fact that her eyebrow shape has also changed over the years could’ve impacted her look and given the impression of plastic surgery. Weight loss might have led to an overall slimmer look, too. With little evidence to refute her plastic surgery denial, we might have to take it for granted. However, now with her titular role in Agatha All Along, we can guess witchcraft is involved, because she looks fantastic.

Marvel Studios has free rein to adapt comic characters as it sees fit, and Agatha Harkness is one of those cases. Introduced in WandaVision, the power-hungry witch is a far cry from her comic counterpart.

Contrary to popular belief, Agatha has a more heroic past in Marvel. Generally connected with the Fantastic Four, Agatha was hired as a governess for Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s children. She reveals herself to be a witch and helps them with varying conflicts. But when it comes to her offspring, Agatha All Along seems to be more in line with comic canon.

The first clue occurs in episode 1 of the new Marvel series. Trapped in the fugue state that Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) left her in at the end of WandaVision, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) struggles to endure her new reality in a Mare of Easttown-esque show. The similarities are undeniable, down to Agatha’s trauma over losing a child. In this new reality, Agatha has a room in her house belonging to a child who is obviously no longer there, with a plaque reading Nicholas Scratch. While this could be a sly reference to series like Mare of Easttown and True Detective: Night Country where female detectives need to have dead children, it actually has a deep connection to Marvel comics.

Who is Nicholas Scratch?

Anyone with significant knowledge of lore or even a cursory understanding of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will recognize the name. Nicholas Scratch is one of the many names for the devil. However, Nicholas Scratch is a character that has been in Marvel canon for some time. Agatha may differ slightly in the comics, but that isn’t necessarily the case for her offspring.

In the comics, Agatha does have a son named Nicholas Scratch whose reputation precedes him. True to his moniker, Nicholas Scratch is a heavy-weight villain in the comics. Nicholas was raised in the secretive magical community of New Salem, Colorado, which was founded by the survivors of the Salem Witch Trials. Agatha would go on to leave the community so she could integrate with the human population, but Nicholas grew into his villainy. He ultimately takes over the leadership of New Salem and turns against his mother, whom he believes to be a traitor against her own kind. He would also go on to sire the Salem Seven, seen at the beginning of Agatha All Along.

The Marvel television series has twisted canonical events but may have plans to make everything come full circle. Nicholas Scratch has yet to make a corporeal appearance in the series — that we know of — but is still likely to have abandonment issues because of his mother’s dealings. Agatha is rumored to have traded her own flesh and blood for the Darkhold, otherwise known as the Book of the Damned. Should Nicholas Scratch make an appearance, we can confidently count on him being none too pleased about his circumstances — if that is indeed the truth of the matter. Agatha All Along has already had many twists, and fans should stay tuned to see what happens next.

So, we’re here again. Marvel has presented us with yet another sexually charged same-sex duo that we don’t quite know how to digest in Rio Vidal and Agatha Harkness. So many times in the past we’ve been cheated out of any proper resolution to palpable queer on-screen chemistry, yet, for one reason or the other, every new time we still hope for a different conclusion. Will Agatha All Along break the spell?

The witchy miniseries has already done more than nearly every other Marvel Cinematic Universe property in the past, except maybe Deadpool & Wolverine and The Eternals, by explicitly declaring Teen as queer. Moreover, Teen — played by Heartstopper‘s Joe Locke and who we’re all convinced is actually Wanda Maximoff’s son Billy aka Wiccan — feels a lot more central to Agatha‘s narrative than its peers were to their respective films. But is Marvel ready to take the next step and give us an explicitly gay romantic storyline involving a title character? (And no, Loki doesn’t count).

At this point, we’re wondering if there is any other possible interpretation to Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn’s scenes in the first couple of episodes of the new Disney Plus show. The two exchanged suspicious looks and gibes that hint at a shared past, including two mentions of a black heart. “Yes, I do [have a heart.] It’s black. And it beats for you,” Plaza’s Rio ominously (and sensually) stated after a fist fight with Hahn’s Agatha, right before licking her bloody palm.

Then, Patti LuPone’s Lilia Calderu used a black heart to symbolize the missing piece in Agatha’s coven — a witch possessing Earth Magic, which we know to be Rio, not just because of the callback but because Agatha avoided the subject and found a non-magical person to step in instead. I mean, is there even an heterosexual explanation for all of this?

Fans were very receptive to the scenes between the two, understandably so. The enemies (to lovers, we hope) have chemistry for days. “Just watched the best sex scene of my life,” one fan jokingly expressed. “The sexiest scene in MCU history,” someone else agreed. Mind you, they were fully clothed the entire time, but it did feel like we were watching more than just fighting.

If this was any other party, we’d be carefree and excited about the possible future of these two characters. Don’t get us wrong, we’re still very much looking forward to new episodes of Agatha All Along, but where Rio/Agatha is concerned, after being let down so many times in the past, we’re going for caution over hope.

Plaza may have promised “a gay explosion” by the final episode in an interview with Variety, but we also when Natalia Portman called Thor: Love & Thunder “so gay” only for it to be… not that. Using the promise of gay content to attract queer viewership when the reality turns out to be a throwaway line or a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment is probably among the top 10 commandements of the Disney rulebook, so we won’t let ourselves get too worked up over Plaza’s words just yet.

With that said, Marvel has never been this gay, and, yes, your honor, we’re guilty of eating it up. Now, let’s see what episode 3 has in store for our new favorite baddies, and then we’ll reconvene.
