Things go from bad to worse for the lackluster sequel. ]]>
<![CDATA[

The negative response to Captain America: Brave New World has begged broader questions about Marvel exec Kevin Feige, especially amid criticism from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld. 1t345

In case you missed it, Brave New World premiered earlier this month to decidedly tepid reviews and an even more lackluster box office haul. The film, which sees Anthony Mackie take the Captain America mantle from Chris Evans, has made history (in a bad way), earning the lowest CinemaScore of any movie within the MCU. Yep, the B minus rating, though not particularly low, is nonetheless lowest earned by any film in the franchise.

Heck, even the almost universally loathed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels and Eternals managed to score a B plus on the site, which measures a film’s appeal based on early reactions. On the opposing end of the spectrum, Brave New World’s rating pales in comparison to titles like The Avengers, Black Panther, and Avengers: Endgame, which each earned a respectable A plus CinemaScore.

The disastrous score has placed increased scrutiny on Marvel boss Kevin Feige, who has been called out by Liefeld in a recent episode of the Deadpool creator’s Robservations podcast. The comic book writer, who created both Deadpool and Cable, revealed that he is severing ties with Marvel after more than three decades in its orbit, citing multiple slights levelled against him by Feige.

One such moment was at the July premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine in New York, where Liefeld claims he was ignored by Feige on the red carpet, and that he and his family were not invited to the after party. Liefeld also claimed that photos of himself and the Deadpool & Wolverine team were deleted, and that his request to receive a special credit at the beginning of the film was denied by Feige and other Marvel bosses. “It was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me,” Liefeld said of the apparent in-fighting led by Feige.

In a follow-up interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Liefeld declared that “Marvel’s treatment of creators has never been their strength,” adding that “without the worlds, the characters and the concepts that we create… there are no films to shoot.” Liefeld then doubled-down on his thoughts of Feige while commenting on Brave New World’s box office slump over the weekend, which saw an 82.4% drop from the film’s domestic opening day. “Get Feige off the mound,” Liefeld wrote in response to the news. “He’s spent.”

That message was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but it’s not the first time Liefeld has taken aim at a major comic book studio. In 2023, the Deadpool creator set his sights on DC, saying the studio lost its way after the release of Man Of Steel and had “skip[ped] steps trying to exceed Marvel.” Given the Deadpool franchise’s penchant for fourth-wall breaking, we wouldn’t be surprised if, in the next entry, a jab was hurled Liefeld’s way as a result of his comments.

"IN GUNN WE TRUST!" ]]>
<![CDATA[

What’s that, in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the MCU’s greatest threat to date. After over a decade of shooting itself in the foot, DC might just finally have got its act together. Our first look at next year’s Superman is here at long last, and even though it’s only 30 seconds long folks are already foreseeing that the DCU is about to be the new superhero movie franchise of steel.

While the full trailer doesn’t go live until Thursday, DC has dropped this 30-second promo (yes, it’s a teaser trailer for a teaser trailer) which is leaving Superman lovers blindsided. Cleverly keeping David Corenswet’s Kal-El out of the limelight, and instead teasing the city of Metropolis, the Daily Planet, and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, this first look is a masterclass in building up hype and awe for the Last Son of Krypton’s return to the skies, and our screens.

It promises such a traditional yet powerful superhero tale that Marvel’s Kevin Feige might well be quaking in his baseball cap…

The teaser trailer for Superman‘s teaser trailer is here, and it’s teasing something special nu2s

As scored to John Murphy’s gorgeous remix of John Williams’ classic theme, with tantalizing glimpses of Superman flying through the Arctic (get ready for the Fortress of Solitude!), this Superman first look is everything the fans could’ve asked for. It’s delightfully quintessential for a genre that’s become more and more reliant on multiversal crossovers to stay fresh. With his big first DCU movie, Gunn looks to be on a mission to prove that going back to basics isn’t a bad thing.

And, going by these first reactions, it looks like a lot of fans would agree with him. All it apparently takes is 30 seconds of people squinting at the sun and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at the back of Superman’s head for everyone to lose their minds.

Some don’t even need to see the trailer, they’re instantly ready to hook the film into their veins.

Superman’s flying high again and the tears are already falling.

And can we take a moment to appreciate how perfect the choice of tagline is? “Look up” works literally, as a hint at the film’s themes of hope and optimism, and also as a promise that things are looking up for superhero cinema.

The message is clear, Marvel: you finally have some proper competition so it’s time to up your game.

To be fair to Marvel, The Fantastic Four: First Steps looks to be another superhero movie that feels fun and fresh simply because it’s a throwback to classic superhero storytelling, so with any luck 2025 really will be the year that comic book films fix themselves. With Sony’s Spider-Man Universe dying a death, maybe nature is healing. In the meantime, the full teaser trailer for the return of the Man of Tomorrow is coming, appropriately enough, tomorrow before it soars into cinemas on July 11. Soon, we’ll what it’s like to believe a man can fly.

Ok, so, who's going to make the Gunn/Feige 'Girl, so confusing' fan video?]]>
<![CDATA[

Whether he its it or not, James Gunn is a pupil of Kevin Feige through and through. The design for the Superman poster is only the latest example of how much of his Marvel knowledge he has brought to the DC camp.

Although we have yet to see Gunn’s first official film production under the DC Studios banner, it’s already become pretty clear that the comics’ giant struck gold when they stole the director from its biggest rival. Along with all of his insider info.

To the outside world, the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker feels like a student attempting to become the master by applying everything he was taught. And, with Marvel experiencing a decline since the heydays of Endgame, it could just work.

First up on the big screen is David Corenswet’s debut in the highly-anticipated Superman, for which Gunn has just shared the first poster. Fans were quick to point out the similarities between the image and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s signature design style, particularly that of its very first film — 2008’s Iron Man.

Yes, they share a color palette and a certain dramatic flair, but it’s DC Studios’ new logo that received most of the heat as a near direct copy of its competitor’s — the classic comics’ logo followed by the word “Studios” in between two straight lines.

The Parent Trap twin vibes become even more apparent when you that rebranding the company from DC Films to DC Studios was one of Gunn’s first moves after being appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of the branch in 2022. He also dropped the “E” from DCEU (DC Extended Universe), to both differentiate his projects from the Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck Justice League era, and to, no doubt, emulate the resonance of the “MCU” initialism.

Don’t get us wrong, Gunn has proved, beyond doubt, that he is a capable filmmaker and storyteller — one of the superhero genre’s best, even. But he has arguably yet to earn his stripes as an executive. What might differentiate his cinematic universe’s identity from the one that basically created and popularized the concept, however, is that the 58-year-old is a self-professed champion of characters, whereas Feige tends to value the plot.

When speaking with Rolling Stone on the occasion of Guardians 3‘s release in 2023, Gunn’s assessment of superhero fatigue was equal parts a subtle dig at Marvel’s recent shortcomings and a razor-sharp observation on the broader state of the genre. It’s no wonder his collaborations with the comics giant were some of the franchise’s most successful and critically acclaimed.

It has to do with the kind of stories that get to be told, and if you lose your eye on the ball, which is character. We love Superman. We love Batman. We love Iron Man. Because they’re these incredible characters that we have in our hearts. And if it becomes just a bunch of nonsense onscreen, it gets really boring. But I get fatigued by most spectacle films, by the grind of not having an emotionally grounded story.”

We’ll have to wait and see if he delivers on that promise or just ends up regurgitating Marvel’s tired formula when Superman, which he both wrote and directed, hits theaters July 11, 2025.

<![CDATA[

Every MCU fan has their own least-favorite entry in the everlasting franchise. Thor: The Dark World, Eternals, She-Hulk (boo!)… The choice varies, but I can confidently say that everyone is wrong. There is only one categorically correct answer to the question of which is the worst Marvel project ever, but it’s one that is so bad that most have stricken it from their memories as if they ever saw it at all. But Kevin Feige is now teasing that it could make a return.

Cast your minds back to a time long ago. Before Disney Plus was around to drain your bank and the MCU’s creativity, the studio had to rely on either Netflix or network TV to make some small-screen spin-offs of its cinematic universe. Sometimes this resulted in superhero splendor of the kind Disney has yet to repeat — see Daredevil — or times it created muddled, mindless content that soured the Marvel brand — looking at you, Iron Fist season 1. The worst of the bunch, though, has to be Inhumans.

Lasting for all of eight episodes back in 2017, the ABC series was supposed to launch a key new lore into the MCU, but it turned out so awful that Marvel quietly brushed the entire enterprise under the carpet and (almost) never spoke of it again. Check Rotten Tomatoes and you’ll see that Inhumans is the worst-rated MCU production by a considerable margin — it has a wince-inducing 11% Tomatometer, far below Iron Fist‘s own meager 37%.

But they don’t call Marvel the House of Ideas for nothing. Kevin Feige is never one to throw an idea away, and now he’s threatening to resurrect the Inhumans in a new way.

Is Marvel quietly working on an Inhumans reboot? 36b67

While appearing at D23 Brazil this past weekend, Marvel prez Feige was on hand to answer CinePop‘s question about whether the Inhumans could ever return to the franchise. The producer seemed positive about their chances, noting that Anson Mount already came back as a variant of his character, Inhuman king Black Bolt, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “We’ll see where, if, and when, they return,” Feige briefly teased.

That’s a suitably non-committal but teasing answer from the walking, talking vault of secrets, but is Marvel really endeavoring to resurrect the Inhuman Royal Family? Honestly, there’s no real reason for them to do so. During the 2010s, Marvel was keen to push the Inhumans as a replacement for the X-Men given that Fox had the rights to the more famous team. Now that the X-Men are being folded into the MCU, going back to the Inhumans would almost be a waste of resources. That said, it sounds like Marvel is at least entertaining the notion of doing more with them. Don’t forget, for a while there about a decade ago, Vin Diesel was set to star as Black Bolt in an Inhumans movie.

Mount was easily the best part of the ABC series — he came up with his own sign language for the silent character — so another cameo from the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star would always be welcome. Just let him keep his mouth this time, please, Kevin.

We can't see anyone complaining about this!]]>
<![CDATA[

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are two of the most iconic characters in recent cinematic history. The Marvel pairing first appeared in Fox’s X-Men franchise but blew the doors off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in this summer’s biggest blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine.

The superhero buddy movie was a roaring success, having grossed nearly $1.4 billion worldwide, and fans hope and expect to see both eponymous characters again in the MCU soon. However, the two characters may reappear sooner and more often than fans anticipate if Marvel Studios’ head honcho Kevin Feige’s latest comments are anything to go by.

Feige told the Brazilian entertainment website Omelete at D23 Brazil, “The plans with Deadpool and Wolverine will always be the same: we’re always wondering where we can fit them in, and how fast” (Deadpool is already set to appear in a Christmas-themed short this year).

That will come as music to the ears of millions of Marvel movie fans, leaving them wondering precisely when the two super-healing heroes will reappear in MCU movies.

The most obvious MCU movies to expect Deadpool and Wolverine to pop up again are in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), both of which could bring characters from different universes into play, given that they’re significant chapters in the franchise’s Multiverse Saga.

However, there’s still a possibility that new projects will be announced and squeezed in at short notice, such as a Deadpool & Wolverine sequel — after all, Marvel Studios would be ill-advised not to capitalize on the phenomenal success of the first movie.

All that said, Feige told Omelete that Marvel Studios intends to reduce the number of movies they’re releasing annually and will be reverting to the pre-2017 model of two per year. Given the existing slate of scheduled films, assuming the two-movie rule is implemented soon, a Deadpool & Wolverine sequel could come no earlier than 2027 (only Avengers: Secret Wars is officially down for a 2027 release). It means the two Avengers films do indeed appear to be Reynolds and Jackman’s most likely imminent appearances, with any others coming later.

Feige said, “I think I can say that we are back to normal, more or less. In the past, we had four films and four series a year, and I think we’ll go down to two films, three series – but that won’t be the case for 2025, specifically. It turns out that we’ve been working on these titles for a long time, and they just happen to be ready for release now.”

Reynolds is 48, and Jackman is 56. Marvel Studios’ fondness for the pair means they’ll likely be playing Deadpool and Wolverine into their 50s and 60s, respectively. Heck, going by Feige’s comments, the studio would be happy to squeeze them into projects until their ages are approaching triple figures, which would bring renewed extreme meaning to the name “Old Man Logan.”

Our beloved superhero now shares X-Men's solid MCU future. Their comeback is no longer an "if." Whew!]]>
<![CDATA[

As part of the D23 event in Brazil, Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, has revealed the MCU’s exciting plans for the X-Men and the return of a beloved character everyone feared had retired.

The closing of the Infinity Saga represented the end of the line for multiple key Marvel heroes, including Robert Downey Jr.’ Iron Man, Scarlet Johanson’s Black Widow, and Chris Evans’ Captain America. Yet, the “Multiversal Saga” kept the trend alive when it supposedly killed Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It definitely didn’t help when Olsen expressed discontent with the film’s plot and commented on how her character was treated. Along with this, her absence from subsequent projects, which extended to avoid even mentioning the Scarlet Witch, sparked fears that the actress was done with the MCU for good.

Of course, the success of Agatha All Along led to an uproar of disgruntled fans who wanted Wanda to return, followed by Olsen herself adding her voice to the crowd, hinting she wanted to return sooner than later.

It looks like everyone’s wishes will come true. In a revealing interview with Brazilian outlet Omelete, the Marvel Studios president has strategically shifted from “no comment” to a surprisingly candid acknowledgment of Wanda’s future in the MCU. In Feige’s words:

“We’ve recently had Agatha All Along on Disney Plus, and that series has been great for us. Since then, there have been a lot of questions about Wanda in fans’ minds… So all I can say is that we’re excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can come back.”

It’s settled, then. Feige is still playing coy about the how and the when, but the lingering “if” has been erased for good and there’s no longer any doubt the Scarlet Witch is coming back to the MCU. The timing couldn’t be better, considering the character’s comic book history with the X-Men, who’ll soon become the center of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kevin Feige reveals when the X-Men will enter the MCU 5r4257

In the same interview where he spilled the beans on the Scarlet Witch, Feige revealed an unprecedented level of long-term planning that extends well beyond Avengers: Secret Wars. Unlike the approach to Endgame, where the focus was primarily on reaching a conclusion, Marvel Studios now has a clear roap for its future.

“When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a matter of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story will be until then and beyond. The X-Men are an important part of that future.”

It makes sense that Marvel Studios is already planning what to do once the “Multiversal Saga” is done. Since Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has been getting a lot of heat from fans, who have openly denounced the lack of consistency regarding quality. It’s a fact that the MCU has stretched too thin while juggling too many movies and TV shows, which is why Marvel Studios is aiming to downsize in the near future. So, since the “Multiversal Saga” didn’t work out as planned, Feige is bringing the big guns and putting the X-Men at the center of the MCU for whatever comes after Avengers: Secret Wars.

That’s an exciting perspective. The X-Men have headed some of the best Marvel Comics crossovers, including House of M, centered on the Scarlet Witch. Plus, with Mutants roaming free in the MCU, it’s only a matter of time before we get the dreamlike Avengers vs X-Men movie we all hoped for since Disney bought Fox. You know what? I agree with Feige: Let’s rush to the end of the “Multiversal Saga.”

<![CDATA[

Blade fans shouldn’t get their hopes up of seeing Marvel’s beloved vampire hunter in the MCU anytime soon. In fact, by piecing together Kevin Feige’s latest comments on Marvel Studios’ plans, it looks like the Blade‘s future is no longer a dicey gamble and has already crossed the fence.

By now, you know the drill. In July 2019, Marvel Studios made waves at San Diego Comic-Con when they revealed that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would play the iconic vampire hunter. Since then, Blade has seen a parade of writers and directors take on the project and abandon it, forcing MCU fans to question if the Daywalker would indeed get his movie.

As part of the D23 event this weekend, Feige sat down with Brazilian outlet Omelete to discuss the MCU’s overall plans for the years. As expected, the man behind Marvel Studios’ curtains used the opportunity to declare his love for Ali’s Blade, a project recently booted from the MCU’s release calendar after being trapped for years in development hell. As Feige puts it:

“We’re committed to Blade. We love the character. We love Mahershala’s version of him. And rest assured, whenever we change direction with a project or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re updated on what’s going on. But I can say that the character will make it to the MCU.”

While it’s a relief to hear that Blade’s MCU future is ensured, other parts of Feige’s interview throw some water on fans’ expectations that Blade is finally on the right track. That’s because there’s no way to fit the movie into Marvel Studios’ new reduction goals.

Blade currently has no future… at least not for the next few years 5e4o5

When discussing the MCU’s future, Feige underlined how the studio’s goal is to focus on quality instead of quantity. That means downsizing the number of yearly releases. As Feige puts it, Marvel Studios is trying to return to the same rhythm it had during the “Infinity Saga.” As he explains it:

“I think it’s safe to say that we’re back to a normal rhythm, more or less. In the past, we had four films and four series a year, and I think we’re going to go down to two films, three series – but that won’t be the case in 2025, specifically. It turns out that we have been working on these titles for a long time, and they happen to be ready for release now.”

That doesn’t bode well for Blade. The MCU calendar already has three movies on the schedule for 2026, one of them being Avengers: Doomsday. While Blade could potentially take the slot of one of the two untitled movies, these will most likely go to projects that tie directly into the “Multiversal Saga,” such as Spider-Man 4 and the rumored Scarlet Witch return. As for 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars has already claimed the May 7 spot. With Marvel Studios focusing on two movies per year moving forward, the earliest we will watch Blade in theaters will be by the end of 2027 if we are truly optimistic.

On the bright side, the latest rumors tell us Blade will launch a supernatural storyline that spawns multiple projects. However, Feige’s most recent updates tell us we’ll have to wait years before knowing what that means. So, for now, Marvel’s promise to bring Ali into the MCU fold and add him to its roster of superbeings is temporarily erased. While we would like to trust Feige here, projects like Blade that get stuck in development hell, undergo a gazillion changes, have a star whose fame is only climbing as the days , and have no discernable future apart from lofty promises hardly ever climb out of their frozen pits.

Dreams do come true. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Agatha All Along brought Ms. Harkness and her chaotic coven’s journey to a close, but this clearly isn’t the end of the (Witches’) road for this corner of the MCU. For starters, there’s one thing we’re all waiting on, and that’s the resurrection of the Scarlet Witch — something we were banking on happening in this very Disney Plus series following Wanda Maximoff’s demise in Doctor Strange 2. But, just like that promised “gay explosion” ending, it never came.

For those who need some reassurance that Wanda really hasn’t gone the way of so many needlessly deceased MCU female characters before her, it’s worth re-examining comments made by the Scarlet Witch herself, Elizabeth Olsen, in the wake of the Agatha finale. Fans have been waiting for some kind of indication that a Scarlet Witch movie is in the works at Marvel Studios, but one hasn’t been forthcoming. And yet Olsen already practically said as much back in 2023.

During a convention appearance last year (but which is now recirculating on social media), Olsen was asked what her dream scenario for a Wanda comeback would be. Intriguingly, Olsen pleaded the fifth on that one as she teased that she’s afraid to answer as Marvel’s prez Kevin Feige tends to make dreams come true.

“Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something,” said Olsen, to much jubilation from the crowd. “Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character and then he does it [Laughs] so I don’t know if I can share…I just want to come back.”

What makes Olsen’s reply so interesting post-Agatha is that we know the series’ creators had several strict no-nos enforced on them by the studio. Agatha wasn’t allowed to include Billy’s twin Tommy, his boyfriend Hulkling, and, most importantly, it had to leave Wanda’s fate in limbo. Obviously, Feige has big plans for the Maximoff family to come. While this could play out in either Vision Quest or the rumored Wiccan spinoff, the fact that Olsen was so careful not to get into specifics in the above 2023 Q&A heavily hints that she’s had talks about a feature-length return as the crimson sorceress. And maybe those talks have progressed further over the past 12 months.

Olsen has elsewhere hinted at how she’s not the biggest fan of Wanda’s sudden heel-turn in Multiverse of Madness, so we’d imagine that, if Feige has asked her what she wants from a comeback, it would be to back-track on portraying the Scarlet Witch as a villain. On the other hand, rumors have claimed that Wanda will be back for Avengers: Doomsday… but this time on the arm of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Maybe Olsen’s dream was to play Downey’s love interest, perhaps just to spite Gwyneth Paltrow, maybe it wasn’t. If only we had a way to see into the future to find out. Where’s Patti Lupone when you need her?

Mahershala Ali fans, Marvel fans, vampire-heads… We’re all desperate to get news about this new Blade movie that is looking more unlikely to get made by the day. Luckily, Black Panther alumni Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan took matters into their own hands and gave us the Blade prequel we didn’t know we needed.

What if we told you Killmonger’s ancestor was a vampire and maybe even Blade’s Maker? And Kate Bishop’s great-grandmother was involved in some way… We’re still ironing out the details, okay? But this is our pitch to make Coogler and Jordan‘s movie Sinners an official part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since we’re beginning to get real pessimistic about the future of Blade.

Could Sinners be the reason Blade hasn’t been able to get off the ground? 622a2t

While we’re sure Coogler and Jordan — who are frequent collaborators and friends and have also worked together in both Creed and Coogler’s first movie Fruitvale Station — are eager to step outside the Marvel world and carve their own path in the industry with an original IP film, we’re afraid the crossover potential with Blade is just too great. And fans are noticing it too.

“So, Disney can’t get a Blade made, but Warner Brothers allowed for Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan to produce their own Vampire film that will “eventually” be owned by Coogler after a few years. This is a level of pettiness that needs to be seen to believe,” one media commentator astutely observed. Is this personal for the DC Comics parent company?

Others have theorized that releasing Blade so close to Sinners would have been a marketing nightmare and could be a reason behind the Marvel film’s strange delay. Delroy Lindo, who was announced as part of Blade‘s cast early on and then ed the Sinners ensemble, exited the former in June, right in the middle of production for the latter.

Sinners was ultimately pitched, sold, filmed, and promoted faster than Marvel could finish the Blade script or find a director. Six writers and two directors have worked on the project so far, though no filmmaker is attached to it at present, and it’s unsure whether the most recent draft — from the mind of loyal Marvel scribe Eric Pearson, who’s worked on nearly every Marvel film of the last decade — will be the screenplay’s final version.

The last we heard of Blade‘s status came from Feige himself, who reassured fans the studio was “so committed to [the movie] that we’re not going to make it until it’s right.” A recent report claimed Marvel would make a final decision about the film by the end of 2024. Keep in mind this film was announced in 2019, and originally given a 2023 release date, but at least Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth are still interested.

What we know about Sinners 51fu

Sinners was kept a secret for most of its production, and, for a while, all we knew was that it would be a “period thriller (some have said it takes place in the Jim Crow-era South) involving the undead,” per The Hollywood Reporter. Rumors of vampires were also rampant. Now, Warner Bros. has released its first trailer and it looks really good (albeit cryptic and confusing — as any good trailer should be).

The official synopsis, shared on X by film reporter Erik Davis, says the film will follow twin brothers, both played by Jordan, who will try to “leave their troubled lives behind.” When they return to their hometown to “start again,” however, they discover “an even greater evil waiting to welcome them back.” Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, and Omar Benson Miller also star, with Jack O’Connell playing the villain.

Warner Bros. was the ultimate winner of a fierce bidding war for Sinners, which will hit theaters in the United States March 7, 2025. Back in May, we picked it as one of our most anticipated original movies releasing next year.

when Marvel Studios managed to upstage Deadpool & Wolverine, the biggest movie of the year, on its opening weekend by revealing that Robert Downey Jr. was coming back to the MCU to play Doctor Doom? Yeah, that was weird. Ironically, just like that Ryan Reynolds movie, while it got people talking, not everyone talking about it had nice things to say.

On paper, bringing back the Iron Man icon as one of Marvel’s most legendary villains must’ve seemed like a win-win scenario, but Marvel may have underestimated the fandom’s ability to find fault with every storytelling decision made in the Multiverse Saga. Many view Downey’s (re)casting as a shameless attempt to recapture the franchise’s bygone glory days by throwing a unique and beloved character under the bus.

That viewpoint has only been cemented following Downey offering his first words since his Comic-Con unmasking about why he elected to make the surprise move back to the Marvel multiverse.

“[Feige said] how can we not go backwards, how do we not disappoint expectations, how we can continue to beat expectations,” Downey told The Hollywood Reporter when recalling the meeting with the studio president that convinced him to take the title role in Avengers: Doomsday. “Let’s get Victor Von Doom right.”

Unfortunately, Downey’s words are now being thrown back in his face over and over again online. Luckily, he’s got a metal mask to protect himself.

One big problem some fans have with the Downey-Doom debacle is that it keeps a fresh talent — possibly even an actor of Romani descent — from getting their spot in the limelight.

“This was the wrong choice,” boldly declared one reply. Premature? Maybe, but it’s how a lot of folks are feeling.

Others are theorizing that Downey’s meeting with Feige is just a big fat fib to cover up Kevin’s casting goof. What if… he meant to call Cillian Murphy instead but when RDJ answered he just rolled with it?

Officially, we won’t get to see Downey’s Victor Von Doom in the flesh metal until Doomsday comes on May 1, 2026. However, the odds are high that he may sneak himself into July 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps somewhere. Maybe then everyone will get on board with the casting, but for the moment not all are convinced this Victor is a victory.

Marvel fans are revolting... No, wait, that's not how it sounds. ]]>

After what feels like 10,000 years since the last MCU movie release (it was only seven months? Oh, OK), Marvel is back, baby, with Deadpool & Wolverine. Hype is at an all-time high for the long-awaited X-Men-flavored threequel, but the truth is that Marvel might be going too far with its overzealous attempt to get as many rear-ends in reclining seats as possible.

On the upside, it turns out it’s been Agatha Keanu Reeves all along…

Nobody’s denying that the Deadpool & Wolverine marketing has done a spectacular job of getting us excited for this multiversal crossover party of a movie, but it remains to be seen whether all the cameos we already know about will spoil our enjoyment of the actual in-theater experience.

After recent trailers blew the surprise of both Dafne Keen’s X-23 and a certain Loki character‘s involvements, many have taken to social media to vent about it. “This did nothing but spoil an awesome moment that would have been great to see at the theaters,” complained one X . “This trailer is actually incredible. BUT WHY DID THEY SPOIL THAT RETURN???!!” criticized another. Others are getting characteristically sarcastic about it: “Might as well spoil all the cameos in the movie…”

It’s reached such a level that even Kevin Feige himself has deigned to address the upset. While praising the marketing department for their work, the Marvel president itted that “I don’t disagree” when asked about the worrying spoiler levels in the trailers. He even went so far as to say: “If you’re already interested in the movie, stay away.” Well, that would’ve been useful to know before we got spoiled, huh, Kev?

Multiverse Saga no more? Has Marvel already killed off its current arc and replaced it with a new one? 1q572u

Speaking of shocking things Kevin Feige has said while promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, the Living Baseball Cap himself has outright confirmed that the new film marks the “beginning” of what he’s calling “the mutant era” of the MCU. Seeing as “The Mutant Saga” has long been believed to be the next story arc set to follow the current one, Feige’s curious comments leave us wondering whether Marvel has quietly cancelled the remainder of the Multiverse Saga and is launching the Mutant Saga earlier than expected. What with Avengers 5 going back to the drawing board, there’s the tantalizing possibility that it could be rebooted as Avengers vs. X-Men. Even Hugh Jackman is teasing it.

Keanu Reeves is to blame for a major X-Men movie decision that changed the Marvel multiverse 6x40g

The decision to ditch the colorful comic book costumes in the original X-Men film in 2000 is one that’s been mocked by the fandom as a cowardly move for over 20 years now — Marvel even sneaked a perfect joke at the fashion choice’s expense into X-Men ’97. Kevin Feige, who was a producer on that movie long before he rose to the top seat at Marvel, has finally itted the logic behind the choice, however. It turns out it was all because The Matrix had just come out so Fox execs wanted to cash in on its success by dressing the X-Men up in black leather like Neo and the gang. We’re somehow still waiting for Reeves to actually appear in the MCU, but it seems he’s been subtly influencing the multiverse all along.

For years now, Nova has been at the top of most Marvel fans’ lists of priorities for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fact that Kevin Feige keeps teasing the character’s debut without any actual results isn’t helping the anticipation.

During a press run for Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel president was once again questioned about the state of the untitled Nova project by ComicBook.com and his answer provided more details than we have possibly ever had. According to Feige, Nova’s introduction in the MCU will happen in a series and not in a film, as was previously thought.

The Marvel boss also confirmed the show will focus on the first, most famous Nova, Richard Rider, but that we’ll have to hold on to our butts because it’s nowhere near production. “It’ll be three or four years out,” Feige offered.

It’s coming together. Richard Rider, yep.”

That’s a long time to wait still, considering fans nearly saw all their dreams come true during Avengers: Infinity War, where an earlier cut of the film reportedly included footage of Thanos destroying the planet Xandar, with the writers also considering throwing the beloved Nova Corps leader as the last remaining survivor in the mix. An early Infinity War concept considered using Richard Rider as a stand-in for the Silver Surfer as the one who informed the Avengers that Thanos was coming. That job ultimately landed on Bruce Banner’s bulky green shoulders.

Before that, fans of the Nova lore had already been teased with the inclusion of Xandar and the Nova Corps in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Many thought that was a sign Richard Rider would soon come. Fast forward ten years, and, if Feige’s plans pan out, we’ve still got another four to go.

Richard Rider’s comics origins date back to 1976 in Marv Wolfman, Joe Sinnott, and John Buscema’s Nova comic where the character appears as a Long Island teenager who is ed down Nova-Prime powers by a moribund Nova Centurion. Richard is tasked with avenging the Nova Corps after they were decimated by Zorr. His journey then takes him on multiple intergalactic adventures, crossing paths with The Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos, the Black Order, and multiple other characters now known to fans of the MCU.
