Fellow Grammy winner SZA has revealed that she would love to play electric mutant Storm, too ⏤ and she wants her portrayal to be “gnarly.” During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she revealed that while she didn’t necessarily see a future in acting, there’s one reason why on-screen heroism is her calling.

“I would love to be a superhero!” she announced after Hudson told the studio audience she could see SZA playing one. “My dad, he collects first-edition comics, so he has first-edition Thor comics and Silver Surfer just in the basement. So I grew up, like, super being into Marvel and DC.” Although Silver Surfer was the first character she said she’d love to play, she quickly confirmed what she’d want to do if given the chance to play Storm.

Daredevil: Born Again is shaping up to be peak Marvel TV, and sure, that’s in part thanks to its strong writing, peerless performances, and bone-breaking action. But it’s also to do with the fact that it’s brave enough to be both a grounded legal drama series, and one in which its grounded lawyer protagonist can say the words “mystical amulet” in the middle of a serious courtroom scene.

So far, the Disney Plus series has done a commendable job of replicating and enhancing the specific tone of the original Netflix series by embracing both its gritty nature and its fidelity to the comics. No better is that exemplified than in the character of White Tiger, a brand-new superhero for the MCU who is only casually, off-handedly introduced. Because after 18 years, 35 films, and 25 TV shows, all Marvel needs to do at this point is shrug and say “they’ve got superpowers, you get it.”

Thankfully, Hector Ayala (brilliantly played by the much-missed Kamar de los Reyes) makes for a compelling character, despite how little attention is paid to the ins and outs of his superhero persona. For those who are interested in learning more about White Tiger lore, however, let’s demystify that mystical amulet of his.

First things first: in the comics, Hector actually has three amulets, not the one. The Puerto Rican native was originally just a regular college student at Empire State University (where Peter Parker also schooled) when he discovered the three amulets which had been dropped by vigilante group the Sons of the Tiger. In the source material, the amulets comprise one shaped like a tiger’s head and then two paws, but this has been streamlined to a single head-shaped amulet for the MCU.

The effect is the same, however. When Hector dons his amulet(s), he finds he’s been given your typical superpower gift pack. While operating as the White Tiger, Hector’s physical strength, speed, stamina, agility, and endurance are all amped up to superhuman levels and, as an added bonus, he instantly becomes a martial arts master, too, with enhanced balance, reactions, reflexes, and coordination.

Known either as the Amulets of Power or the Jade Tiger Amulets, the White Tiger’s fabulous accessories originally derive from the mystical city of K’un-Lun, otherwise known as the home of the Immortal Iron Fist. This has yet to be addressed on the TV series — probably because reminding people Iron Fist exists isn’t a great plan — but we can likely assume that the amulet’s origin is the same in the MCU’s canon.

The amulets work in much the same way as the Power of the Fist, then, in that they are wielded by those with the purest spirit and the strongest heart. Just like Iron Fist’s destiny is to protect K’un-Lun, the MCU’s White Tiger stepped up to protect the streets of New York after Matt Murdock retired his Daredevil persona. Tragically, Hector’s time as a hero has been cut short, but the odds are that the White Tiger amulet will be worn again on Daredevil: Born Again as the series continues.

Superhero stories have never shied away from tackling real-world issues, but Daredevil: Born Again is taking things to another level. The series just confirmed that one of its biggest plotlines is a direct confrontation of law enforcement corruption. This is fueled by none other than the misuse of The Punisher’s iconic skull symbol.

Episode 3 of Born Again doesn’t just hint at the issue, it dives in headfirst. Granted, Matt Murdock wrestles with his legal career and his moral code. However, this time, he finds himself up against a faction of NYPD officers. Moreover, these officers have embraced The Punisher’s brand of vigilante justice. It’s not just a small group of bad apples, either. The show reveals a widespread problem within the force. Multiple officers are proudly sporting the skull emblem, and enforcing their own brutal version of the law.

But this isn’t just a fictional storyline. It directly addresses a real-world issue. Over the years, police officers and military personnel have adopted The Punisher’s logo, even though Frank Castle is anything but a hero. Even The Punisher’s creator, Gerry Conway, has spoken out about this. He has emphasized that Castle represents a failure of the justice system, not something to be celebrated.

Daredevil: Born Again is bringing that discussion to the forefront, and it’s already sparking plenty of debate. At the heart of this explosive storyline is Hector Ayala, a man on trial for killing a cop. But the truth is far more complicated. Hector stepped in to stop a man from being beaten, not realizing that the attackers were undercover officers. In the chaos, one officer fell onto the subway tracks and died. Instead of acknowledging it as a tragic accident, the NYPD brands Hector a cop killer. Moreover, it moves to make sure he never sees the light of day again. Matt Murdock takes on Hector’s defence, only to realize that the case is really about a system designed to protect itself at any cost.

Episode 3 goes all in on exposing how deeply The Punisher’s influence has seeped into the NYPD. As Hector’s trial unfolds, Matt sees just how widespread this faction is, with dozens of officers sitting in the courtroom, all marked with the same skull emblem. These aren’t just corrupt cops; they’re an organized force operating with complete impunity, carrying out their twisted version of justice. The irony, of course, is that Frank Castle would hate everything about this. The Punisher may be a ruthless vigilante, but he has no patience for corrupt cops. In the comics, Castle has repeatedly made it clear that law enforcement using his symbol completely misses the point.

Daredevil: Born Again is using its platform to highlight the dangers of officers who stop seeing themselves as public servants, and instead, start seeing themselves as enforcers of their brand of justice. Given how divisive this topic is, you’d think fans would be split, but the reaction so far has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s clear that Marvel isn’t playing it safe, and this storyline alone makes it one of the most compelling superhero shows in years.

Well, this was as inevitable as Thanos. After a month into its theatrical run, the end is now in sight when it comes to Captain America: Brave New World‘s total box office gross, and all the signs are pointing to the Anthony Mackie vehicle avoiding its potential to be a full-blown flop, but running head first into its fate as one of the lowest-performing MCU movies of the lot.

Following its fourth weekend in theaters, Brave New World found some extra cents in between the seats in order to bring its domestic gross up to $176.5 million and its international take to $192 million. All together, then, that means the director Julius Onah-directed effort has an overall box office haul of $370.8 million (via Box Office Mojo). Based on these latest figures, the current predictions for its ultimate box office haul puts it at somewhere between $405 million to $440 million.

That number should come as something of a relief to Marvel, as it’s been reported that Brave New World needed to cross the $400 million mark to break even. So while the movie — which cost a slim $180 million to make, but which probably cost that much again to reshoot and promote — likely won’t make much of a profit, at least it shouldn’t go down as a net loss for the studio. That said, there’s no escaping that Captain America 4 is destined to become one of the MCU’s least financially successful films.

With its current box office gross, Brave New World has now officially reached the overall total made by its great-granddad across its entire run. 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger kicked off the Sentinel of Liberty’s superhero franchise with perhaps less fanfare than you would expect, grossing just $370.6 million by the end of its theatrical release. So the good news for Brave New World is that it won’t hold the (dis)honor of being the lowest-earning Cap movie of the lot.

Unfortunately, it’s still likely doomed to a place in the top 10 weakest MCU films when ranked by box office — although considering the current no. 10 is Iron Man, that probably sounds worse than it is. If Brave New World concludes its time in theaters closer to $404 million then it could become the sixth lowest-grossing, slotting in just behind (or in front of, depending on your point of view) Eternals, with its $402 million haul. Then again, if it pulls off something more like $440 million then it will file between Shang-Chi ($432 million) and Thor ($449 million).

In other words, Brave New World‘s box office numbers are nowhere near as embarrassing as the Multiverse Saga’s biggest bomb — The Marvels, with its $205 million gross — and instead it’s nestled among many of the old-school MCU favorites of Phase One. For a movie that’s a backdoor sequel to The Incredible Hulk, that seems very appropriate.

The end of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga will be here sooner than you think. Although May 2027 sounds like the far future, we’re fast approaching just two years until Avengers: Secret Wars hits screens, following one year on from Doomsday‘s arrival in spring 2026. Filming is already underway, in fact, on Avengers 5, and directors the Russos have just revealed our first concrete detail about the MCU’s attempt to one-up Endgame. And fans all have the same complaint.

While promoting their new Netflix sci-fi film The Electric State (which is, sadly, not getting great early notices, but we’re hoping that’s not a bad sign for their Marvel return), the Russos brothers were asked what the runtimes for Avengers 5 and 6 might be. While the length of an MCU movie is typically one of the last things we learn about it, given that often the final cuts of these things are only locked in right before they enter theaters, the Russos already have a clear vision in mind for their next epic two-part event.

And epic is indeed the word. “If I were a betting man,” Joe Russo revealed in a new interview, “I would say the first one is two and a half, and the second one’s three hours.” That sounds right on brand for the Russos, considering that’s pretty much a direct match to the runtimes for Infinity War and Endgame as well. Although you’d think a full 180 minutes for Secret Wars would be enough to satiate superhero lovers, it seems most have the same criticism to this news: make it five hours and we’re golden.

At first glance, fans wanting Secret Wars to be longer than three hours might seem greedy, but there is a certain logic to this request. After all, Endgame barely managed to wrap up the Infinity Saga in that same space of time and SW has an even bigger job in sewing the disparate, tangled threads of the multiverse together. Besides, having Doomsday and Secret Wars fit so neatly into the format and structure the Russos used before on IW and Endgame only reinforces the idea that the studio is looking to recapture past glories rather than attempt to boldly go where the franchise has never gone before.

If there was any film series that could have the clout to attempt a Brutalist-like runtime, maybe even with an intermission in the middle, it would be Marvel. Going by all the grumbling that a bladder-breaking 180-minute length is too short, clearly many out there would be willing to remain glued to their seats for, say, 3 hours, 30 minutes to 4 hours. Even so, Marvel is likely of the opinion that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Just wait until we get to Avengers 15 at the end of the Stilt-Man Saga in 2055, though. That one’s bound to be 10 hours long.

The series kicks off with a prologue that takes place one year before the main events of the show. Marvel doesn’t slap a big timestamp on the screen, but some solid clues place this part of the story in the fall of 2025. This makes sense because Matt Murdock was still active as Daredevil during She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which takes place in the summer of 2025. 

At that point, he was still in his Daredevil suit, cracking jokes and even meeting Jennifer Walters’ family. However, Daredevil: Born Again reveals that sometime shortly after that, Matt steps away from the Daredevil persona following the death of his best friend, Foggy Nelson. That means the prologue is happening just a few months after She-Hulk, likely in the fall of 2025.

After the prologue, Daredevil: Born Again jumps forward one year. That places the majority of the series in 2026. This also lines up with the real-world timeline since it’s been about seven years since Daredevil season 3 wrapped up on Netflix, and Marvel seems to be keeping the same in-universe gap. By 2026, Matt Murdock has been out of the crime-fighting game for a while, but we all know that won’t last. With Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) making moves, it’s only a matter of time before Matt is pulled back into the fight.

Things get even more interesting in episode 2, which kicks off with a New Year’s Eve celebration. That means we’re officially in January 2027 now. This is a big deal because it connects Daredevil: Born Again to Captain America: Brave New World. That movie, which features Sam Wilson’s Cap, and Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, is also set in late 2026 and 2027. Specifically, the events of Daredevil: Born Again are happening just a few months before that film’s opening scenes. This also confirms that Thaddeus Ross is still the U.S. President during Born Again, and he hasn’t turned into the Red Hulk yet.

Figuring out where Daredevil: Born Again fits within the broader MCU is no easy task. However, the other projects help paint a clearer picture. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law wrapped up in the fall of 2025, around the time the prologue of Born Again takes place. The main events of Born Again then unfold in 2026, leading into 2027, which is when Captain America: Brave New World kicks off. Seven years after the conclusion of the seminal Netflix series, Daredevil: Born Again has finally premiered, and its two-part opener offers everything fans could’ve asked for and more. By which I mean, it definitely has all the blood-pumping, bone-crunching action we were promised in the trailers, but that also comes with a side order of heart-wrenching, gut-punching pain.

When the first reactions to the premiere came in, we were warned there was something “shocking” that happened in the first 15 minutes that Daredevil fans would have a lot to say about. Sure enough, now the episode has gone live on Disney Plus, and though who’ve been waiting almost a full decade to see Nelson, Murdock, and Page again, people can’t stop talking about the brutal way Born Again begins. For a brief five-minute period at the beginning of the premiere, Matt (Charlie Cox), Foggy (Elden Henson), and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) are happy and content. That is until DD’s old enemy Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) strikes, seemingly just for giggles, and kills Foggy. The bulk of the show is then set a year later, after a grieving Matt and Karen have gone their separate ways and Matt has retired his vigilante career out of guilt for failing to save his best friend’s life.

Born Again is turning into a classic case of “be careful what you wish for” as folks have been demanding Disney Plus bring Daredevil back for years, but now it finally has they want to erase that earth-shattering opening scene from their brains.

It should be stressed that it’s been confirmed the decision to kill Foggy off came from the show’s original creative team before Marvel completely overhauled the production. It was then new EP Dario Scardapane who came up with the idea to bring Henson and Woll back to shoot that first 15 minutes, thereby kicking off Born Again on a dark, emotional, and shocking note rather than simply writing out Foggy and Karen off-screen. On the one hand, we’re glad he fought to get the two series veterans back to honor the spirit of the Netflix version. On the other, we could’ve lived without seeing Foggy viciously slain and dying in a pool of his own blood in Karen’s arms while Daredevil wails in anguish. Can somebody call the TVA and tell them to erase this from the Sacred Timeline?

The fact that Marvel movies all come with a metric ton of tie-in merchandise is both a blessing and a curse for MCU fans. On the one hand, it means fans get to give away all their cash to line their shelves with as many toys and trinkets as they can dream of, but on the other, it also means that spoilers become even harder to crack down on. Exhibit A: the Funko Pop.

Many is the time when a sneak peek at an Funko Pop figure has given the game away on some top-secret MCU character about to make their debut. The most egregious example has to be last fall when a U.K.-based toyseller actually shared details on Funko’s Agatha All Along wave too soon and spoiled the hidden identities of both Joe Locke and Aubrey Plaza’s characters.

Just a few months later, it’s happening all over again as the Thunderbolts* Funko Pop wave of figures has landed — and it finally reveals our first glimpse at the Sentry. For those who want to wait to see Lewis Pullman’s uber-powerful character for the first time in live-action, look away now.

Marvel has been extremely careful in its Thunderbolts* marketing to keep the mysterious character of Bob out of the limelight, with Pullman’s seemingly dual role as a harmless rando and a godlike threat to humanity left unexplained in the trailers so far. Of course, fans know he’s going to be revealed as comic book anti-hero the Sentry — and, thanks to Funko, we also know exactly what he’s going to look like. Well, probably.

If the character resembles anything close to this in the movie itself, Marvel fans should be extremely satisfied. The gold and blue color scheme has thankfully been retained for the screen and he even has the oversized belt buckle with the ‘S’ logo on it (Marvel is notoriously shy of giving characters their logos sometimes, just ask Daredevil)! That said, it’s worth bearing in mind this might not reflect the Sentry’s final design in the film.

Some months before Captain America: Brave New World released, we got wind of the Funk Pop figure for Samuel Sterns/the Leader, which depicted him with green skin, a beard, and a bulbous cranium, very in line with his comics design. When the movie came out, however, he looked… not like that. This was because that production went into reshoots after its tie-in merchandise was locked in. Going further back, a Funko figure of the Hulk busting out of the Hulkbuster armor was released for Avengers: Infinity War (even though that ending was removed from the final cut).

All we can do is beg that Marvel didn’t make a late-in-the-day change with Sentry’s look as, by rights, this character design should absolutely pop on the big screen (especially in a film populated by an ensemble of heroes wearing washed-out, darker palette uniforms). It’s likely we’ll get some kind of peek at Sentry in all his golden glory in future promos, so let’s just be patient. Thunderbolts* thunders into theaters on May 2.

Captain America: Brave New World just enjoyed its third weekend at the box office, and one way of looking at it is that it retained its position in the top spot yet again. The other way of looking at it, however, is that this slacker of a superhero blockbuster isn’t quite hitting the numbers it should be for such an uncompetitive time of year. But, hey, at least it has now officially earned more than a certain infamous MCU movie.

All in all, this Oscars weekend made for a lackluster period at the box office, despite it being a time when you’d think cinema-goers would be full of movie-mania. Going by how middling Brave New World fared, though, it seems most film lovers skipped a trek to their local theaters to stay at home and finally rent Anora or The Substance before the Academy Awards started. Whatever the reason, the less than impressive numbers mean Captain America 4‘s fate still hangs in the balance.

Across its third weekend, Brave New World brought home $15 million more at the domestic box office. As per Variety, that means the Anthony Mackie vehicle has pulled in $163.7 million from North America in total. And, thanks to its slightly more robust international performance, that brings its current global gross to a nifty $341.8 million. In the grand scheme of things, that’s nothing to sniff at, but seeing as its biggest rivals right now are all niche releases — e.g. survival thriller Last Breath and horror-comedy The Monkey — you might expect the MCU’s latest crowd-pleaser to be, well, pleasing bigger crowds.

On the plus side, just before the weekend broke, Brave New World at last crossed a somewhat significant milestone. At the very least, the movie has definitely made more money than its most direct predecessor in the MCU — not, not Captain America: Civil War but 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The Julius Onah-directed offering — which brings back three key characters and two legacy cast- from the oft-forgotten Edward Norton caper — is well past the $265 million brought in by Hulk across its entire theatrical run at this point. That is some kind of vindication for Marvel’s curious decision to make a shadow sequel to one of its most middling movies 17 years later.

With another slump in ticket sales inevitable as we head into its fourth week, the big question now is: can Brave New World manage to make enough to cross the all-important $400 million mark, which analysts have determined is how much it needs to dump in the bank in order to break even for Marvel and Disney. If it fails, the film will become the latest slice of the Multiverse Saga pie to be declared a box office bomb, after the likes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. In other words, Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four, the future of the MCU rests in your hands.
