If you have ever wondered what the last song you might ever hear will be, you have likely hoped for something stirring, emotive, and all-encoming. Perhaps an orchestral number, deeply emotive and painfully haunting. But how about a bit of “Dancing Queen">a former spy coming to grips with the reality of his past after he returns to London Station.

Fassbender is also enjoying the success of critical darling Kneecap, released earlier this year. The film, acting as something of a biopic for the Northern Ireland-based, Irish-language hip-hop act of the same name, has been embraced by critics all over the world, bringing a hilarious and heartfelt mix of comedy, social and political commentary, and of course, music, to the mix.

It remains to be seen how much music will be in his future, but for at least a little while, we suspect Michael might find good reason to avoid boats.

Do we know the famous actor who screamed at ‘Dune 2’ star Rebecca Ferguson on set? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/do-we-know-the-famous-actor-who-screamed-at-dune-2-star-rebecca-ferguson-on-set/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/do-we-know-the-famous-actor-who-screamed-at-dune-2-star-rebecca-ferguson-on-set/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 14:09:35 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1666592 It's time we stop letting big name celebrities get away with acting like babies.]]>

We’ve all had to deal with nasty co-workers in the past, but fans of Rebecca Ferguson were surprised to hear her recount an experience with a co-star who screamed at her on set.

Speaking to Josh Smith on the Reign podcast the Dune: Part Two star recalled one particularly traumatic job in which “an absolute idiot of a co-star” yelled and generally acted unprofessional and condescending towards her. “This human being was being so insecure and angry, because this person couldn’t get the scenes out.” Whilst it happened in front of the crew, she says that no one had her back due to the co-star being number one on a call sheet.

During the interview, Ferguson makes sure not to name the individual, but the story does have a happy ending with the actress standing up for herself, “I being so scared, and I looked at this person and I said “you can F off. I’m gonna work with a tennis ball.”” Honestly, good for her, whoever this person was, they sound like a real piece of work. Fans of the actress commended her for standing up to the unnamed co-star with fellow actors such as Dwayne Johnson even responding in .

But many were also angry, not at Rebecca obviously, but at whoever it was that spoke to her like that. People on X (formerly Twitter) jumped to the defense of the star, vowing to get their hands on this rude person one way or another.

Who screamed at Rebecca Ferguson?

Ferguson has made the wise choice not to reveal who she was talking about as doing so could come back to bite her. But fans still want to know, especially because they are clearly very famous, to the point that no one was willing to call them out on their behavior. In all honesty we don’t know for sure who it is, however, there are theories. These theories are based on circumstantial evidence at best so it’s probably best not to draw any hard conclusions from these just yet.

Fans threw a few names out there, such as Hugh Grant, who starred in Florence Foster Jenkins with Ferguson. The evidence against him is that the two have very few photos together from after the film, and in the photos that do exist, they are standing very far apart. There have been a few cases where Grant has been somewhat abrasive and rude to people, even when he knows others are watching, so this theory could hold water. Others suggested it could be Tom Cruise although there’s very little evidence to back that up, she’s worked with Cruise on multiple Mission Impossible movies and is set to appear in the next installment set to be released in 2025.

Interestingly, Dwayne Johnson was suggested by multiple people. The pair worked together on 2014’s Hercules, but they have zero photos or interviews together. If that’s the case then Johnson’s tweet takes on a whole new context, instead of offering it could just be an attempt to cover up and make himself appear innocent; whilst Johnson’s reputation has gone down a bit recently, I doubt he’s this bad of a person, but hey, anything’s possible in Hollywood.

We could go on all day listing each and every one of Rebecca Ferguson’s famous co-stars, we have Michael Fassbender, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and many more. It’s a real mystery, but knowing the internet, the truth will be revealed eventually.

Review: Taika Waititi takes the message of ‘Next Goal Wins’ a little too literally in this wholesome if unfocused sports comedy https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/reviews/review-taika-waititi-takes-the-message-of-next-goal-wins-a-little-too-literally-in-this-wholesome-if-unfocused-sports-comedy/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/reviews/review-taika-waititi-takes-the-message-of-next-goal-wins-a-little-too-literally-in-this-wholesome-if-unfocused-sports-comedy/#respond Mon, 13 Nov 2023 14:26:17 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1623617 While not his best work, this soccer comedy is still a true Taika Waititi gem.]]>

If there is one thing that should be respected and celebrated in Taika Waititi‘s work it’s that the New Zealand actor/director/producer polymath loves to have fun – wholesome, genuine, earnest fun. His most recent venture, the sports comedy Next Goal Wins about the American Samoa soccer team and the grumpy American-Dutch coach who leads them to their first-ever win, doesn’t stray far from this sentiment, even if it never rises to the sharpness and preciseness of his previous work.

Through haphazard storytelling and heavy-handed dialogue, there is one message at the core of Next Goal Wins, and it seems to, intentionally or otherwise, describe the guiding principle of Waititi’s career: playing is ultimately more important than winning. The director, who also penned the script with The Inbetweeners creator Iain Morris, upholds that maxim by trying different things, even when not all of them land. The result is a movie filled with isolated geniality, lost in an aimless and messy narrative without a distinctive voice or tone.

The editing and pacing in Next Goal Wins are often awkward and incredibly distracting as if an unfinished draft was accidentally submitted as the real thing. Protagonist Thomas Rongen (a committed Michael Fassbender), undergoes massive emotional and character growth in a short amount of time and with questionable continuity, driven by a melodramatic tragic personal history and an alcohol problem.

Real tribulations borrowed from Rongen’s real life are handled with a strange combination of levity and histrionics. Waititi has finely tuned this formula before in triumphs like Jojo Rabbit, but it falls flat here.

Rongen starts the film as a disillusioned washed-up coach with anger management issues, whose last resort before forced retirement is coaching the struggling American Samoa national team. Famous for losing 31-nil to Australia in the qualifiers for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and setting the record for the biggest goal gap in international soccer, the squad is composed of amateur players whose multiple day jobs become a recurring, wholesome gag throughout the movie.

The story unfolds more or less how you’d expect. The two sides clash, as the coach has never had to train a team from the ground up before, and doesn’t know where to start. Rongen, who has no plan whatsoever, oscillates between wanting to be the hero who turned the team around and treating the whole thing as a dull job he’s just forced to do. The changes between one approach and the other are sometimes so drastic that you start fearing you somehow missed a scene in the film.

Fassbender’s ing cast — led by the consistently funny Oscar Kightley as Tavita, the president of the American Samoa Football Federation, and Non-binary actor Kaimana’s heartfelt performance as fa’afafine Jaiyah Saelua (the first trans person to compete in a FIFA World Cup qualifier) — holds the film together. Fassbender has good chemistry with both and their interactions are highlights throughout, with the exception of the questionable scenes where Rongen asks Jaiyah about her genitals and deliberately calls her a “he” as punishment for being distracted in training. Although likely done for the sake of staying true to the real story, the culmination of their arc doesn’t exactly right these wrongs, particularly since the film takes liberties elsewhere with its depiction of true events.

The team works well as a collective character, displaying an unexpected desire to have fun as true enjoyers of the “beautiful game,” instead of being hyper-focused on winning. Connected to them is the sense of community in the town where they live, which is beautifully captured by Waititi. Rooted on shared spiritual beliefs, practices, and a strong sense of identity and national pride, the American Samoans, from the convenience store clerk to the friendly assistant coach, are the true stars of the film.

You believe and become attached to Waititi’s depiction of this town as it overflows with love and a true celebration of an overlooked and underappreciated culture. It’s also in this microcosm that the humor works best, calling on well-intended caricatures and precise visual gags to portray the country’s essence. At one point, Tavita says the main exports of American Samoa are “NFL players and tuna” and disses the other Samoa for being cocky about their 24-hour McDonald’s. Later, when Rongen enters his new rented apartment, we see a shrine to both Jesus and Dolly Parton.

In its best moments, Next Goal Wins is a wholesome, hilarious, inspirational tale with a twist, but it never stays that way long enough to be considered a success. Despite several attempts, some of them desperate, it never quite manages to make its protagonist an interesting character, and as authentic as the world surrounding him feels, it’s not nearly enough to make up for a lukewarm and confusing emotional arc.

Still, Next Goal Wins is a true Taika Waititi gem that only needed some TLC to go from reasonable to great after suffering major delays and reshoots. Thankfully, the director continues to play, not all too concerned with winning, and even if that game plan hasn’t always worked out, when it works, it really works.

What is Zoë Kravitz’s dating history? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/what-is-zoe-kravitz-dating-history/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/what-is-zoe-kravitz-dating-history/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2023 14:59:18 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1615291 Has she found true love at last with her most recent relationship?]]>

During her wildly successful career in Hollywood, Zoë Kravitz has had a number of high-profile relationships ranging from flings with Ezra Miller and her marriage to Karl Glusman, all the way up to her recent engagement to Magic Mike star Channing Tatum.

The Mad Max actress usually keeps her personal relationships on the down low but this is Hollywood we’re talking about; nothing stays secret for long. So here’s what we know about her dating history.

Ben Foster

Zoë Kravitz and Ben Foster met on the set of the 2008 comedy-drama, Birds of America. This was one of her earliest movie roles with the actress being 19 at the time of the film’s release. The couple were spotted attending a gala hosted by Madonna which confirmed that the two were indeed an item. However, the relationship did not last very long, and the two split ways shortly after.

The stars met during filming for the 2010 comedy, Beware the Gonzo, which saw Miller in the starring role and Kravitz playing the DC star’s on-screen love interest, something which spilled into the real world as the pair were seen kissing in the same year the film released. The couple weren’t an item for long though, as they reportedly split up soon after. They would later work together on screen again in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Chris Pine

Around 2010 rumors began circulating that The Batman actress and Captain Kirk himself were dating. Kravitz was seen hanging out with the Star Trek actor at the Met Gala that year, however, neither Kravitz nor Pine have ever confirmed that they were in a relationship.

Michael Fassbender

The two actors initially met on the set of X-Men: First Class back in 2010 after which they began a relatively low-key relationship up until 2011. Despite breaking up, the duo remained on good with Kravitz attending the premier of Fassbender’s film The Counselor in 2013.

Penn Badgley

Rumors started back in 2011 that these two were an item, however, both kept their relationship out of the public eye for the most part. The couple remained together for two years before splitting up in 2013. A source close to the couple told US Weekly that the relationship “really did end on good ” and that “they are at two different stages in their careers […] they just didn’t have time for each other.”

Drake

Kravitz and Drake were spotted kissing at a Beyoncé concert in 2013. However, there wasn’t much more news on that other than the pair appearing in a few Instagram posts together. Kravitz did confirm in 2017 that she and the Canadian singer were in fact an item during an appearance of What Watch Happens Live, “We hung out for a minute, but we’re very good friends.”

Twin Shadow

George William Lewis Jr, better known by his stage name, Twin Shadow, worked with Kravitz on a song back in 2015. The musician, who has collaborated with the likes of Haim, was working on his third album at the time. They were in a relationship for a few months, making multiple public appearances together before parting ways shortly after, even going as far as to unfollow each other on Instagram, a sure sign that any romance is well and truly dead.

Karl Glusman

The pair started dating in 2016 after a friend introduced them to one another, by 2018 Glusman had popped the question. They were married in June 2019 with plenty of A-list guests in attendance including her Divergent co-star, Shailene Woodley along with other big names such as Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon. Obviously, Zoë’s parents, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet were also in attendance as well as her stepfather, Jason Momoa.

Kravitz and Glusman appeared to have a pretty strong connection but despite this, the couple filed for divorce at the beginning of 2021 as confirmed by US Weekly. By the time the divorce was finalized in August that year, they had been married for a little over two years.

Channing Tatum

The pair were first linked in the same month that Kravitz’s divorce with Glusman was finalized. Channing worked with Zoë, starring in her directorial debut, Pussy Island which has yet to be released. A month later, the pair were seen leaving the Met Gala together. It was confirmed by People at the time that they were indeed dating. Recently they were photographed leaving a Halloween party and an engagement ring can clearly be seen on Kravitz’s hand as she walks next to Tatum.

Of course, Zoë has yet to make a big announcement about the engagement, which, to be honest, is sort of her style. We’ll probably hear about the wedding months after it’s already happened, too.

The volume of award wins or nominations a cast and crew has in their past isn’t really a barometer of how things will turn out should a cavalcade of prestigious names be brought together for the same project, but that still doesn’t excuse just how badly The Counselor turned out.

Even if you rattle off the names involved who don’t have at least one Academy Award nomination to their name, then we’re still talking about a crime thriller penned by No Country for Old Men and The Road author Cormac McCarthy that stars Cameron Diaz, Natalie Dormer, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell, and others.

the counselor
via 20th Century Fox

Then, when you factor in four-time Oscar-nominated Ridley Scott directing the likes of two-time nominee Michael Fassbender, four-time nominees, one-time winners, and real-life couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, along with seven-time nominee and two-time winner Brad Pitt, then you begin to see how badly it failed to do justice to the sum of its parts.

We haven’t even mentioned Oscar-nommed cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, composer Daniel Pemberton, or the four nods and one victory for editor Pietro Scalia, either, which makes you wonder how on earth The Counselor couldn’t fly any higher on Rotten Tomatoes than the 34 and 24 percent approval ratings it was respectively awarded by critics and audiences.

Probably because it’s not very good, with the labyrinthine tale of a hotshot lawyer desperate for cash being pulled into the world of drug-running easily one of the most disappointing movies of the last decade when it comes to its talent-to-turnout ratio.

Big names always draw ’em in on streaming, though, even if there’s sure to be a lot of viewers wishing they hasn’t wasted their time after FlixPatrol outed The Counselor as one of iTunes’ top-viewed titles.

‘The Killer’s post-premiere reception at Venice Film Festival leaves David Fincher looking confused https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/the-killers-post-premiere-reception-at-venice-film-festival-leaves-david-fincher-looking-confused/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/the-killers-post-premiere-reception-at-venice-film-festival-leaves-david-fincher-looking-confused/#respond Sun, 03 Sep 2023 23:19:19 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1579539 To be fair, reacting to a five-minute standing ovation seems like an awkward task.]]>

David Fincher has reportedly been left scratching his head following the premiere of his new film at the Venice Film Festival. The director, who attended the festival to debut his latest Netflix thriller The Killer, was said to have been puzzled by the five-minute standing ovation it received after its screening at the Lido.

Fincher was one of only a few of The Killer contributors to appear at Venice, with co-stars Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton skipping the festival amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The director walked the carpet alongside a small group of Netflix executives, and signed posters of his previous films like Fight Club and Seven.

Screengrab via YouTube

The praise continued following The Killer’s premiere, though it was reportedly lost on Fincher. According to Variety, Fincher was seen fidgeting uncomfortably as the audience applauded the film, before flailing his arms in the air and mouthing: “what is this?” Fincher ducked out of the theatre quickly before returning to the stage for the rest of the standing ovation.

The Killer’s positive reception at Venice aligns with critical praise it has received since its Venice debut, with pundits describing the film as “terrific” and particularly lauding Fassbender’s performance.

The film, which sees Fincher enlist frequent collaborators and scorers Trent Reznor and Atticus, marks the director’s latest Netflix venture, having previously worked with the streamer for the titles Mindhunter and Mank, as well as co-producing House of Cards.

The Killer is one of multiple films to receive praise at this year’s Venice Film Festival, with the Emma Stone-starring Poor Things and Wes Anderson’s Roald Dahl adaptation The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar also tipped as favourites. The Adam Driver vehicle Ferrari, meanwhile, was met with a lukewarm reception by some critics.

“It’s a really provocative and interesting movie,” Netflix chief Scott Stuber said of The Killer. “It’s a really fun, big movie in the hands of one of the best filmmakers.” The Killer will be released on Netflix on Nov. 10.

David Fincher’s ‘The Killer’: Release Date, Cast, and More https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/david-finchers-the-killer-release-date-cast-and-more/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/david-finchers-the-killer-release-date-cast-and-more/#respond Tue, 29 Aug 2023 22:31:31 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1575253 Get inside the mind of an assassin in this highly-anticipated film.]]>

A teaser trailer dropped for David Fincher’s highly-anticipated assassin drama, The Killerpsyching fans up for its release. This marks the first film by the award-winning director since the release of his 2020 critically acclaimed black-and-white flick, Mank. After viewing the new trailer, fans predict Fincher will deliver another masterpiece, so let’s dive into what you can expect from The Killer.

Who stars in The Killer?

The Netflix production stars Michael Fassbender, who you may recognize from his portrayal of Steve Jobs in the eponymous biopic, or as Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse. Fassbender plays an unnamed assassin described only as “the killer.” Other cast include Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, and Sophie Charlotte.

What’s The Killer about?

The Killer enters the mind of a contract killer who begins to regret his lengthy career as an assassin. According to Colliderthe logline for the film describes it as:

“A man solitary and cold, methodical and unencumbered by scruples or regrets, the killer waits in the shadows, watching for his next target. And yet the longer he waits, the more he thinks he’s losing his mind, if not his cool. A brutal, bloody and stylish noir story of a professional assassin lost in a world without a moral com, this is a case study of a man alone, armed to the teeth and slowly losing his mind.”

Despite the amount of press surrounding the film’s release, creators have managed to conceal most of the plot’s details, making it a bit of a mystery.

Who wrote The Killer script?

Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, best known for writing Se7en and Fight Club, adapted The Killer from a French graphic novel series of the same title. The comic series, written by Matz Narks and illustrated by Luc Jacamon, consists of ten issues, and became relatively successful in the United States after being translated into English.

Why was The Killer delayed?

As one of Fincher’s ion projects, the director first brought the idea for the film to Paramount around 2007. According to Collider, the movie was nearing production with Brad Pitt (potentially) in the lead role when Paramount backed out for “unknown reasons.” Fincher brought the project to Netflix in 2020 as part of his four-year deal with the streaming network, which included his film Mank.

Netflix producer has a lot to say about The Killer

It’s not just fans who are excited to see Fincher’s film take the big screen. Scott Stuber, the Head of Global Films at Netflix, praised both the director and Fassbender for their work on the movie in a 2022 interview reported by Variety

Stuber had this to say about the duo:

“[Fassbender is] charming and great-looking and funny and all these things that you want him to have chances to show in film. He’s a giant star ready to explode in the world, and he’s just looking for those parts that can take advantage of who he is as a person. Opportunistically you see what [Fassbender] has done with talent throughout his career, and how he constantly elevates people to do their best work. The combination of those two we’re really excited about.”

The Netflix producer described The Killers as a “provocative and interesting” movie “in the hands of one of the best filmmakers, and someone we’re really lucky to have a relationship with.”

What we can tell from The Killer’s trailer

Watching the teaser trailer, it’s clear that the unnamed assassin, played by Fassbender, has been at this kind of work for quite a while. His actions are practiced and methodic as he repeatedly reminds himself to “stick to the plan.” However, his voice becomes unsure as the trailer continues, indicating he may have waivered from his rules. While the trailer gives little away, it’s clear The Killer will be an action-packed movie you won’t want to miss!

When will The Killer be released">Venice Film Festival in early September before appearing in select theaters starting Oct. 27. There’s no information yet on what cities will receive a theatrical release, but that’s to be expected as we’re still two months out. Don’t worry, though, as Netflix will be adding The Killer on Nov. 10, so fans won’t have to wait long before streaming the highly-anticipated film.

With James Gunn’s DCU reboot underway, fans are eager to know who will be playing the latest incarnation of the world’s greatest detective. Some names have already been thrown into the mix, including more than a few Marvel actors who we’d like to see don the cape and cowl.

The topic of who should play Gunn’s Batman was brought up in the r/DCCinematic subreddit, where s shared their thoughts on the best picks for the role. One name that got a lot of was Marvel actor Lee Pace, who played the fearsome villain Ronan in the 2014 Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

The common consensus surrounding Pace was that he would give Kevin Conroy vibes. For any fans of Batman: The Animated Series, this would be music to their ears. Of course, the actor already has a great shot at the role due to him having already worked with James Gunn on Guardians. So not only is he a great choice, but a very realistic one too. Rumors have suggested that he could very likely have a role in in Gunn’s DCU.

Although not all fans were as excited at the prospect of Lee Pace taking on the role. The main complaint against him being that he would be too old for the role, being 43 right now. Although, as far as flaws go, that’s a relatively minor worry if everything else checks out.

Another popular pick is Ben Barnes, known by most Marvel fans as the villain Jigsaw in Netflix’s The Punisher series. He also played Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia, if you thought you recognized him from elsewhere. It’s agreed that Barnes certainly has the look and he has shown that he can play a gritty and dark character, as well as a heroic one.

Although Barnes will have the same problem as Pace, as he is only 2 years younger than him. In simpler , he will be in his mid forties by the time the film finally gets made. Then again, he does have the benefit of looking young for his age, so he might be able to get away with it.

Image via Marvel

A few honorable mentions from the thread include Jon Hamm and Michael Fassbender, while some are still holding onto the hope that Ben Affleck will be kept on as the Dark Knight. Although there’s not much hope for seeing any of these actors take on the role, especially considering the fact that all of them are older than Lee and Ben. With that said, their chances aren’t great.

If Gunn is serious about having a younger Batman/Bruce Wayne in the DCU, he may not go with any of the fan predictions and instead opt for a more unknown actor. But who knows? That might be the best direction to go if you want a fresh start.

X-Men maniacs losing their minds at talk of the original Marvel villain making ‘Deadpool 3’ return https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/x-men-maniacs-losing-their-minds-at-talk-of-the-original-marvel-villain-making-deadpool-3-return/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/x-men-maniacs-losing-their-minds-at-talk-of-the-original-marvel-villain-making-deadpool-3-return/#respond Thu, 16 Feb 2023 15:18:35 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1426569 Could one of the first big screen Marvel villains be making their return?]]>

It turns out we may be seeing quite a few familiar faces in the Deadpool 3 as rumors suggest Ian McKellen will be making a return as the villainous Magneto, and fans are losing their minds over the possibility.

The rumor started after Patrick Stewart himself teased that he and long time pal McKellen had plans. Fans have theorized that Magneto will be making an appearance in the third Deadpool installment, as well as likely having a cameo in the Secret Wars movie scheduled for release in 2026.

As you can imagine, the news was music to the ears of fans who are looking forward to seeing heroes across many of the alternate Marvel universes popping up in titles. We’ve already seen Charles Xavier making an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and so it looks like the studio now has McKellen on standby.

Fans were also curious if this meant other versions of their favorite heroes and villains would be appearing in Deadpool 3. Many are hoping to see a cameo of Michael Fassbender’s version of Magneto in the film as well. Anything’s possible with the multiverse, although there currently is no news to suggest Fassbender will be making an appearance.

Ryan Reynolds made the announcement that Deadpool 3 was underway last year in a video that also confirmed Hugh Jackman would be returning as Wolverine. We also know that the film will be the first R-rated MCU movie, although not much else is known about the plot of the movie or how it ties in to the multiverse saga.

McKellen’s last appearance as Magneto was almost 10 years ago, in 2014’s X-Men Days of Future Past. The actor is 83 years old now but it sounds like he’s still game for another round as the infamous Magneto and the fans are here for it.

Deadpool 3 is set for release Nov. 8, 2024.

Taika Waititi calls his long-delayed ‘Next Goal Wins’ the ‘Cool Runnings’ of soccer https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/taika-waititi-calls-his-long-delayed-next-goal-wins-the-cool-runnings-of-soccer/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/taika-waititi-calls-his-long-delayed-next-goal-wins-the-cool-runnings-of-soccer/#respond Mon, 21 Nov 2022 23:38:57 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1355874 "Most of my films are about people who live on the margins, or are a little bit left out"]]>

Taika Waititi‘s not exactly one to keep his dance card empty. Between various producing, writing, and directing duties on projects such as Thor Love and Thunder, Reservation Dogs, and Our Flag Means Death, Waititi hasn’t had a lot of time to concentrate on his non-Marvel-related feature film Next Goal Wins. But with many of his projects wrapping up or going on hiatus, it seems the New Zealander director is finally able to talk details about the forthcoming sports comedy.

“The story is about the worst soccer team in the world, who famously experienced the biggest loss in an international match against Australia, 31-0, which is about a goal every four minutes,” Waititi told Entertainment Weekly. “After suffering that huge defeat, they applied to the soccer federation to find a coach who could get them from the very, very bottom of the FIFA rankings.”

The story is based upon the true story of the American Samoa national football team documented in the 2014 documentary that shares the same name as Waititi’s film. The movie features Michael Fassbender as Dutch-born, America-based coach Thomas Rongen, who was hired to coach the dismally-rated team to success.

The film will also feature newcomer Kamaina, who portrays Jaiyah Saelua, the first transgender player to compete in a FIFA World Cup qualifier. “Jaiya is a trans player — one of the star players of the team — and a lot of the film revolves around her relationship with Thomas Rongen,” Waititi told EW.

Although not a soccer fan himself (he favors rugby, more popular in his native New Zealand), Waititi was drawn to the underdog nature of the documentary. “Most of my films are about people who live on the margins, or are a little bit left out, and it just fit right in for me. It’s a true story, but it’s got all the elements that all the great sports films have. It’s basically the Cool Runnings of soccer.”

Idris Elba names his ideal lion-fighting partners in honor of ‘Beast’ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/idris-elba-names-his-ideal-lion-fighting-partners-in-honor-of-beast/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/idris-elba-names-his-ideal-lion-fighting-partners-in-honor-of-beast/#respond Fri, 19 Aug 2022 13:22:20 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1278959 Choose your fighters]]>

Beast has finally roared its way into theaters and, as promised, the film delivers on its intent to make Idris Elba go toe-to-claw with a relentless lion. It doesn’t seem to be doing much more than that, currently sitting at a 74 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but with a premise like this, you don’t really need to.

Elba plays Nate, a wildlife biologist who brings his two young daughters on a family trip to South Africa in order to heal from the death of his wife, but soon finds himself in a showdown against a terrifying lion who won’t stop stalking them until they’re dead.

Despite the fact that Nate’s tenacity is driven tenfold by a need to protect his daughters, it’s equally true that his kids aren’t directly helpful in the practical realms of fighting a lion. With this in mind, Elba divulged to Collider which two of his former co-stars he would pick for his three-man squad of lion fighters.

“She’s super smart and we survived a plane crash in a movie,” Elba said of Kate Winslet, his first pick for the team and whom he starred alongside in 2017’s The Mountain Between Us, a romantic drama that saw the two of them brave a harsh, mountainous wilderness after a plane crash.

And for his second pick, Elba selected Michael Fassbender, who played the android David in 2017’s Prometheus, which Elba also starred in as ship captain Janek. Of his reasoning for Fassbender, Elba simply replied, “because he has magic.”

It’s quite the team, but unfortunately(?), the reality is that Elba’s going at this lion solo. Now, we can finally see whether man or beast comes out on top now that Beast is playing in theaters everywhere.

David Fincher’s new Netflix thriller starring Tilda Swinton and Michael Fassbender wraps filming https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/david-finchers-new-netflix-thriller-starring-tilda-swinton-and-michael-fassbender-wraps-filming/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/david-finchers-new-netflix-thriller-starring-tilda-swinton-and-michael-fassbender-wraps-filming/#respond Wed, 30 Mar 2022 08:37:40 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1178473 David Fincher’s film, ‘The Killer’ starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton has finally wrapped up its long-delayed production.]]>

In his ongoing four-year development deal with Netflix, David Fincher enlisted Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton to star in his thriller, The Killer. While scheduling conflicts of the leads prevented filming in 2021, Fincher’s latest endeavor has finally finished its long-delayed production.

In an Instagram post, Dwayne Barr, a member of the film’s camera crew, shared that the film wrapped up shooting on Sunday, March 27, and thanked cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt for the wrap gift he was given.

Netflix chief Scott Stuber had previously teased that the film is “really provocative and interesting.” He praised Fincher’s exceptional directorial capabilities and assured that The Killer is a “really fun, big movie in the hands of one of the best filmmakers.”

The action thriller film, based on the French graphic novels series of the same name by Alexis Nolent, will focus on Fassbender’s character who experiences a psychological crisis in a world lacking a moral com. The script for the film is written by Andrew Kevin Walker and will be produced by Ceán Chaffin. While Fassbender had ed the film early on, Swinton’s involvement was confirmed in October last year. None of the other cast have been confirmed yet.

Fincher is one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed directors, with his films receiving numerous Oscar nominations, and earning three nominations for Best Director. He is also coming off the back of executive producing and directing Netflix’s series, House of Cards, and Mindhunter. There is no word yet on when The Killer will be released.
