It’s a bit of a miss though, as the story is a bit boring and nonsensical at times.

From its 30-minute run time to its inconsequential story about Luffy losing his hat, Straw Hat Chase is another chop. However, it does have a few redeeming features. For example, it was one of the first times fans of One Piece got to see the Grand Line animated on screen in 3D, rather than 2D.

The first One Piece movie is great for nostalgic fans who want to revisit the classic charm of the earliest sagas. However, it pales in comparison to later entries. It features the Straw Hat crew going up against the pirate Eldoraggo to find Captain Woonan’s legendary treasure.

In this movie, the Trump Pirates’ leader, the Bear King, kidnaps Nami to make her his bride. The movie shines best when it is fleshing out the characters’ dynamics with each other. Otherwise, it’s not much compared to other One Piece releases.

Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Sakura is unfortunately just a non-canon retelling of the Drum Island Arc. In this version, Franky and Robin are already part of the crew. The film isn’t bad, but many fans remain attached to the original Drum Island Arc.

Episode of Alabasta retells the Alabasta Arc where the Straw Hats meet the princess Nefertari Vivi. However, the Alabasta Saga is simply too beloved by fans to be condensed this much.

One Piece tried something new in this movie as the crew docks on Mecha Island in search of the Golden Crown. Faced with all kinds of puzzles and riddles, the crew have to use not just their hands, but their heads to find the treasure.

In Dead End Adventure, the Straw Hats enter a pirate ship race, introducing multiple fun and eccentric pirate crews. The movie has two standout original characters: Gasparde, an ex-marine intent on sabotaging the race, and Shuraiya Bascus, a bounty hunter.

Here, we meet a character from resident swordsman Zoro’s past, Saga, who has become consumed with the power of a cursed sword. In an action-filled movie, Zoro even turns his sword against the crew in his efforts to save his old friend.

Despite not being number one on this list, Stampede is a showcase of One Piece’s excellence. In commemoration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, the movie went all out. Film: Z is without a doubt, the best One Piece movie, and this is largely thanks to its villain, Z. The mysterious figure is a former marine on a quest to rid the world of pirates after his wife and child were killed by one. The Straw Hats have to figure out how to face him while acknowledging the real hurt that pirates have caused.

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is continuing its reign atop the box office for the third weekend in a row, even as it is trouncing the premiere of a fan-favorite anime, One Piece Film: Red.

Though the numbers haven’t been finalized, it’s being projected by both Deadline and Variety that the DC superhero flick will once again enjoy the top spot at theaters this weekend, once all of the ink has dried.

After earning $4.7 million on Friday, the total box office receipts that are expected to come in for the remainder of the weekend are poised to push Black Adam‘s total domestic gross to north of $120 million. By Deadline’s metric, it is projecting a $17 million total haul stateside this weekend alone for Black Adam, for a running total of an estimated $136 million by end of business Sunday.

Variety has also pointed out Black Adam did not have much competition throughout its October run but all of that will likely change with the release of next week’s Marvel behemoth Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Though Black Adam has already garnered a worldwide gross of more than $250 million (per Box Office Mojo), it may need to earn even more than that to even be considered profitable. That is because the film’s budget is reportedly around $200 million, which does not include marketing costs.

Even though Black Adam is projected to dominate during the weekend, overall, that doesn’t mean One Piece‘s haul is anything to scoff at. Indeed, One Piece‘s Friday take is actually superior to Black Adam‘s at $4.8 million. Overall, One Piece Film: Red is expected to hold a respectable second place at an estimated $10.3 million this weekend, according to Deadline.

Both Black Adam and One Piece Film: Red are at a theater near you. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is hitting the big screen on Nov. 11.

One Piece Film Red continues to be an absolute smash hit, and it hasn’t even hit western shores yet. It just hit an earth-shattering milestone in Japan, having just become the ninth highest-grossing film of all time in the country. To be clear, not just anime films – ALL films. 

Since its release date on Aug 6, the film has earned over 17.3 billion yen, or roughly $116 million USD, shooting past the domestic earnings of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Bayside Shakedown 2, as reported by Anime News Network. If there were any proof that anime is only getting more popular, this is certainly it!

As for when western audiences can finally get stuck into Luffy and the company’s latest big-screen adventure on the big screen, it hits cinemas via Crunchyroll on Nov. 3 in Australia and New Zealand, and the US and Canada on Nov. 4. 

Vinland Saga season two release date revealed in new trailer 96h52

At long last, we have confirmation on when we’re getting a second season of Vinland Saga, as well as a preview of the long-awaited anime. It will premiere on Jan 9 on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gifu Broadcasting, and AT-X. 

As a cherry on top, we got our first taste of the anime’s opening theme song, River, by Anonymouz.  The second season will likely follow the events where the first season left off, with Canute claiming command of the Viking Army as well as England.

Netflix will be streaming the anime everywhere except China, and it will also be on the Crunchyroll platform everywhere except Asia. 

Fullmetal Alchemist stage play announced 245q65

From manga to anime to manga-faithful anime to live-action movie – the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise continues to evolve, with the latest adaptation of Edward and Alphonse’s adventure being a stage play produced by Square Enix and Marvelous. 

A full cast list has been announced, with two actors portraying Edward Elric – Yohei Isshiki, and Ryota Hirano, according to Comic Natalie. 

Exactly how much of the Fullmetal Alchemist saga the stage play is covered is unclear, but the cast list seems quite comprehensive. At the very least we know those lucky enough to attend are going to be sobbing at some point, with Maes Hughes and Nina and Shou Tucker confirmed in the list of characters. 

The play will run in Osaka’s Shin-Kabuki-za from March 8-12, and in Tokyo’s Nippon Seinen-kan Hall from March 17-26, if you’re fortunate enough to be local to either of those areas around that time.

Shared to Crunchyroll’s dubs channel, the new clip called Straw Hats Tailgating Party shows the Straw Hat Crew cooking up a feast as they’re all dressed up to catch the performance from Uta. 

While the clip doesn’t show too much the trailer was also shared to YouTube with the English dub so that you can get a better taste of the film.

Netflix released an official trailer for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, and we now know when we can see it.

The trailer teased the audience of a “never been told backstory” of the Wizard King, seeing Asta and his friends confronting Konrad Leto, the former titular magic royal. The film was announced last year after the anime’s successful run back in 2017.

It has already been confirmed that Gakuto Kajiwara, Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Junichi Suwabe will be reprising their roles as Asta, Yuno, and Yami respectively. It was also announced via the Anime News Network that Toshihiko Seki will voice Konrad Leto in the Japanese dub

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King will be out on Netflix on March 31, 2023.

The wait is about to come to a close for One Piece fans as tickets for One Piece Film: Red are now available for purchase.

Crunchyroll broke the news that ticket sales were now live during this year’s New York Comic Con and that the English voice cast has been revealed. YouTube star AmaLee, known for her anime song covers, will be voicing Uta, a new character in the film. One Piece Film: Red was hugely successful in Japan, raking in $112 million dollars at the Japanese box office, and is the 11th most successful anime film of all time in the country.

One Piece Film: Red comes out in North American theaters on Nov. 4, 2023.

And outside of the movie news, The Pokémon Company released a new gameplay trailer for the  Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games.

This preview trailer is 14 minutes long with a lot of new details about the game. The preview explained more details about the new mechanic, “Terastallizing”. It also showcased new overworld gameplay features such as the ‘Let’s Go’ command, more story details, and most importantly, new ways to interact with Pokémon. According to the trailer, players can go on picnics with their team and even take care of them in various ways like giving them baths and taking selfies with them.

Oh, and the long-forgotten Girafarig finally has an evolution.

Anime collectors, now is the perfect time to save the date as the offical launch date for the Adidas x Yu-gi-oh shoe collaboration has been revealed.

According to the Anime News Network, this anime footwear collaboration will be released on Oct. 7 and will be available to be purchased through retail stores and online sellers. As reported previously, the collection will feature four pieces of footwear — two Adidas ADI2000, and two Reptossage. Both will feature either the Blue Eyes White Dragon or Dark Magician version.

These shoes will be available on the Adidas website, with prices starting from $70 to $120.

One Piece author, Eiichiro Oda gifts anime filmgoers who watch One Piece Film Red 33029

Some exciting and wholesome news for those in Japan — Eiichiro Oda will be giving out a bonus gift to those who watch One Piece Film Red.

The film was a massive success in Japan for the ninth week in a row and is the 11th highest-earning anime film in Japan of all time. So to celebrate, Oda will give out exclusive illustrations to those who watch the film on Oct. 10 and will be limited to the first 500,000 people. So if you need a reason to go to Japan, now is the time.

According to the Twitter post, each viewer will receive a set of eight postcards and the giveaway is to commemorate the overseas release of the film.

Sadly, this giveaway is only exclusive to those in Japan. But that’s okay as the film will make its way to American theaters on Nov. 4, 2022.
