The 'Immaculate' starlet paid homage to two Hollywood icons with the stunning look. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Oscar night has come and gone, but one thing is forever: Red Carpet fashion. And while we already debated the true winners of this year’s ceremony, it’s time we talk about Sydney Sweeney serving one of the best looks of the year (as young as 2024 still is). 6j4v4a

Attendees pulled out all the stops at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party and Sweeney, who seems to be everywhere promoting her latest projects (please tell me you saw her recent SNL appearance; exquisite), was no exception. In archival Marc Bouwer and debuting a new shorter ‘do, Sweeney paid homage to two Hollywood stars: Angelina Jolie, who wore the same dress at the 2004 Oscars, and Marilyn Monroe, who served as inspiration for the dress.

Both Sweeney and Jolie styled the dress similarly, pairing it with a layered diamond necklace (Sweeney’s is a custom-made piece from Messika, courtesy of her talented stylist Molly Dickson) but each gives off such a different vibe in this look. With her shorter hair and softly smokey eye makeup, I can’t help but think Sweeney’s giving Marilyn in The Seven Year Itch.

Even if you haven’t seen the film, you know the scene: Monroe, clad in an ivory dress courtesy of costume designer William Travilla, stands above a subway grate to appreciate the breeze from a ing train. The wind blows her dress up, showing her legs, while Monroe giggles and says, “Isn’t it delicious?” I’m guilty of using this word more than is probably warranted, but Monroe’s look in this scene is iconic; I mean, how many outfits do you know that have their own Wikipedia page?

With its plunging halter neckline, slinky cream-colored fabric, and slight ruching at the waist, it’s clear that Marc Bouwer had Monroe on the brain when he created this dress. And it’s hard not to see Monroe in Sweeney when she dons the gown, especially with that flirty bob she debuted alongside it. Can anyone else see Sweeney playing Monroe in a future project?

Think about it: Sweeney has an on-screen persona similar to Monroe’s in her heyday. Both women rock the blonde bombshell look and juxtapose an overt sensuality with a sense of innocence. It’s not a stretch to imagine Sweeney doing her own take on Monroe in the future. It’s almost a rite of age for Hollywood ingenues to pay homage to Monroe, whether in film or editorial shoots, meaning Sweeney would be ing a long list of stars if she were to do so. If this look is her audition for a future old Hollywood period piece, I think she certainly has the range!

What is Christopher Nolan’s next movie? 1o4w1t https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/what-is-christopher-nolans-next-movie/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/what-is-christopher-nolans-next-movie/#respond <![CDATA[Carolyn Jenkins]]> Tue, 12 Mar 2024 16:33:56 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[Christopher Nolan]]> <![CDATA[Oppenheimer]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2024]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1670761 <![CDATA[
The director's multiple Oscar wins have made many wonder what he will do next.]]>
<![CDATA[

After over two decades in the entertainment industry, Christopher Nolan got the honor he always deserved. At the 2024 Academy Awards, he finally won the accolade for Best Director.

The filmmaker has been nominated eight times in the past without any wins. A decided oversight, for those of us familiar with his work. His first nomination for Memento was a masterclass in non-linear storytelling, while Dunkirk was a harrowing exploration of the titular battle. However, there is no doubt that Oppenheimer is his magnum opus. Nolan was moved by this win during his acceptance speech, as reported by Variety.

“To the Academy — movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”

Oppenheimer also takes a non-linear approach to the life and times of the man behind the atomic bomb. Played with clarity and vulnerability by Cillian Murphy, J. Robert Oppenheimer pursues the creation of the bomb for scientific purposes, but also grapples with guilt over his role in the destruction of a country. With Nolan and the rest of Oppenheimer’s cumulative wins, many may be wondering what the director has in store for his next venture.

For every subsequent film that Nolan makes, he somehow continues to up the ante. Following his mindbending 2010 endeavor, Inception, he went to space in Interstellar and reversed time in Tenet. Oppenheimer blew time travel, dreams, and historic battles all out of the water. Whatever he has next is sure to be impressive.

Unfortunately as of this writing, we don’t know what the director has in the works. More than likely he will be taking a well-deserved break following the creation of the 3 hour epic. But while we don’t know any specifics about the filmmaker’s plans, Nolan has dropped some hints about intriguing prospects he could one day take on. In a conversation with the British Film Institute, The Prestige director noted a genre he has not taken part in before.

“I think horror films are very interesting because they depend on very cinematic devices. [They are] about visceral response to things. So, at some point, I’d love to make a horror film.”

Nolan concluded that he hadn’t found a story yet that would lend itself well to the horror genre, but all in good time. Oppenheimer has already been a significant door into that territory. There is nothing more horrifying than being the person who was responsible for decimating two cities with radiation. The award-winning film explores these ideas with its disturbing imagery following the dropping of the bombs. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see Nolan furthering that vision into a full-fledged horror film somewhere down the line.

‘Anatomy of a Fall’ parents guide explained 92h68 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/anatomy-of-a-fall-parents-guide-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/anatomy-of-a-fall-parents-guide-explained/#respond <![CDATA[Carolyn Jenkins]]> Mon, 11 Mar 2024 20:19:22 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[Anatomy of a Fall]]> <![CDATA[Justine Triet]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2024]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1670522 <![CDATA[
The Oscar-winning film is full of heavy material not for the faint of heart or tender years.]]>
<![CDATA[

During the 2024 Oscar season, actor Sandra Hüller had the claim to fame of playing a role in two nominated films. Following her role as Hedwig Höss in The Zone of Interest, she lent her talent to Anatomy of a Fall, a gripping courtroom drama.

Both parts deal with heavy material, but in vastly different ways. In Anatomy of a Fall, Hüller plays Sandra, a woman who quickly becomes a suspect in her husband’s untimely demise. The film won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and it isn’t difficult to see why. The character of Sandra is multi-layered. It is never quite clear if she is complicit in her husband’s fall or not. Co-writer and director, Justine Triet, told W Magazine that this was intentional.

“I wanted Sandra to be complicated, like Marlene Dietrich in the film Witness for the Prosecution. At first, Dietrich seems like a femme fatale, in total control of men. And then you see another side completely — there’s something much more complex underneath.”

Triet wrote the script with her partner, Arthur Harari, during lockdown after they had a baby. They were entranced by the idea of not knowing whether Sandra was guilty of the crime or not. The two would work on scenes separately during the brief interludes when their baby was asleep. What resulted was a gripping drama about the trials of marriage.

What is Anatomy of a Fall rated? 3l6w3r

The themes in Anatomy of a Fall are mature, which is reflected in the rating of the movie. The film is Rated R for language, sexual references, and violence. Parents take note: Specifically-speaking, though there is no overt nudity in Anatomy of a Fall, there are images of a naked dead body. The violence is also mild, but the integral component of the film revolves around the death of a character. The film shows a man’s body after falling from a great height, bleeding from the head. Profane language also occurs throughout the film with references to sexual intercourse.

The intense imagery that populates the film is perhaps the most disturbing. The audience hears depictions of domestic abuse, as well as in-depth descriptions. Animal lovers should also be aware there is a particularly intense sequence involving a dog. The family pet, Snoop, overdoses on Aspirin, and though he is ultimately saved, there are several moments where the animal suffers. Parents should also be aware that even though there is a main character who is a child, most of the content of the movie will most likely be upsetting for children. But for those grownups inclined to watch it sans kids, Anatomy of a Fall is available to rent or purchase on digital platforms.

Is Robert Downey Jr.’s Oscar win awful news for Marvel Studios? 25m5z https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/is-robert-downey-jr-s-oscar-win-awful-news-for-marvel-studios/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/is-robert-downey-jr-s-oscar-win-awful-news-for-marvel-studios/#respond <![CDATA[Christian Bone]]> Mon, 11 Mar 2024 18:27:05 +0000 <![CDATA[Marvel]]> <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[MCU]]> <![CDATA[Oppenheimer]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2024]]> <![CDATA[Robert Downey Jr.]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1670478 <![CDATA[
Who needs the MCU? ]]>
<![CDATA[

For a long while there, it looked like Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. had a practically symbiotic relationship, one which was mutually beneficial… Until it suddenly wasn’t.

Downey’s universally adored performance as Iron Man helped steer the MCU to meteoric greatness for its first 11 years of existence, while Marvel helped restore Downey’s once-ruined reputation and reinstall him in Hollywood as one of the most lucrative actors around. And then Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame. Marvel’s never been the same since and that looked to be true of Downey’s career as well when he followed up years of box office success with 2020’s dire Doolittle.

Enter Oppenheimer, with Downey’s left-field, against-type casting as Lewis Strauss making him a shoe-in for the Best ing Actor Oscar since last summer. Sure enough, the 96th Academy Awards went and gave the golden gong to the man who once pretended to pee in his superhero suit in Iron Man 2. It’s a tremendous and well-deserved achievement, no doubt about it, but it may have just put the final nail in the coffin of Downey’s potential MCU comeback.

Downey’s Oscar acceptance speech makes clear an MCU return is unlikely to happen 73140

Although he may have swaggered onto the stage like Tony Stark attending one of his own Stark Expos, Downey’s Oscar acceptance speech offered yet another, and perhaps the ultimate, reminder that he’s days as the Armored Avenger really are over. “Here’s my little secret,” Downey said when thanking director Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for casting him in the first place. “I needed this job more than it needed me.”

This ission echoes similar comments Downey has made throughout this awards season in which the actor paints himself as someone who needed a serious leg-up in of earning the industry’s respect and credibility amongst his peers after so long making mainstream blockbusters. That’s not to say that Downey is dismissive of his work for Marvel, as he personally believes he gave some of his “best work” while playing Iron Man. The problem, for him, is that few, outside of diehard MCU fans, recognized that.

“I felt so exposed after being in the cocoon of Marvel where I think I did some of the best work I will ever do, but it went a little bit unnoticed because of the genre,” Downey said on an episode of Rob Lowe’s podcast, Literally!.

Now that he has unarguably broken out of his Marvel cocoon and been reborn as an Oscar-winning character actor (this was Downey’s third nomination but first win), it seems there’s little chance that he would decide to come back for that much hoped for multiversal cameo later down the line. It was widely reported last year that Marvel Studios was considering bringing back Downey, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson to boost flagging interest in the franchise, a rumor that even Kevin Feige point-blank denying it couldn’t destroy. It just made sense, after all, for Downey to turn up in Avengers: Secret Wars for a fan-pleasing reprisal.

However, with RDJ clearly eager to distance himself from Marvel as much as he can — even if he remains proud of his performance across his 10 MCU movies — and with his Oscar win no doubt launching a hundred different job offers, there really seems no way that he’ll return as Iron Man for the remainder of the Multiverse Saga. Now there’s a stark truth for you.

How could anyone possibly be rude to Ke Huy Quan?]]>
<![CDATA[

Last night was a big night for Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. who took home his first ever Academy award for Best ing Actor. Although he’s receiving a lot of criticism from fans who claim the actor snubbed Ke Huy Quan.

Downey was up against some stiff competition for the award; Robert De Niro, Sterling K. Brown, Mark Ruffalo, and Ryan Gosling were all in the running. Meanwhile, last year’s winner of the award, Ke Huy Quan, stood up on stage to present the award. When he made the announcement the Iron Man star took a moment to celebrate with his wife and wave to the crowd before making his way on stage and taking the trophy from Quan without even making eye with him.

He did, however, shake Tim Robbins hand and fist bump Sam Rockwell before making his acceptance speech; even during his speech, he made time to thank Sam and the “fellas.” Although that only served to make the fact that he ignored the guy giving out the award even more blatant. Watching the whole clip, it’s hard to see it as anything other than a snub.

Naturally, this has upset a large portion of the internet. Ke Huy Quan was the talk of the town last year after his Oscar win for Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. His comeback story was one of the most inspirational and wholesome things to ever happen, alongside Brendan Fraser, who also had an amazing comeback last year. On top of that, he just seems like such a nice guy and as such, people feel protective of him, so seeing Downey not even acknowledge him left a bad taste in many people’s mouths.

Fans aired their grievances out online with some calling the star ‘arrogant.’

Of course, in the excitement of the moment it’s possible to become overwhelmed, which might explain it. Although if the internet does give Downey the benefit of the doubt then that means we also owe Taylor Swift an apology. Last month the singer was heavily criticized for her apparent snub of music legend Celine Dion, the whole thing was very similar to what happened between Dowey and Quan last night. Others also pointed out that Emma Stone also seemingly snubbed last year’s best actress winner, Michelle Yeoh, when accepting her award. It seems not snubbing the people handing out the awards is harder than it looks.

https://twitter.com/ankylosarahs/status/1767080378869940481?s=20

Similar to the Taylor Swift situation, Downey took a picture with Quan backstage after his acceptance speech, so it seems likely that the snub (hopefully) wasn’t intentional. After all, how could anyone have a problem with Ke Huy Quan? The man is just too wholesome.

The 'Poor Things' actor had an overwhelming night.]]>
<![CDATA[

Since her startling and provocative portrayal of Bella Baxter in Poor Things, Emma Stone has been the talk of the town. The uniquely odd film was a refreshing inclusion to this year’s crop of critically acclaimed movies.

A twist on Mary Shelley’s classic gothic horror story Frankenstein, Poor Things follows Bella after she is brought back to life with the brain of a child. The film contains the commonly used “Born Sexy Yesterday” trope, which is prevalent in many sci-fi films. In these features, women typically depend on men to show them how to behave in society since they have no context for it. This common storytelling device usually pertains to knowledge about sex as well.

But, as this is Yorgos Lanthimos, he twists this overused story to tell one of nuance, which ultimately earned Stone an Oscar for Best Actress. Of course, as with any live broadcast, things don’t always go according to plan. As Stone ascended the podium to accept the award, she was overcome with emotion due in part to something that had happened behind the scenes.

What happened to Emma Stone before her award? 2c621f

In a broadcast that was mostly ive and even-keeled, Stone’s acceptance was full of high emotion. Immediately, the actor confessed to being overwhelmed by the situation. She was among many impressive performers, one of whom was Lily Gladstone, the first ingenious woman nominated for her harrowing performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.

Stone’s emotions were only elevated by a wardrobe malfunction she confirmed happened earlier in the night. As she walked up, she mouthed: “My dress is broken,” before taking her statue. The seam at the back of her dress seemed to split down her back.

“I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I’m pretty sure.”

Stone’s former co-star, Ryan Gosling, performed the crowd-pleasing song from Barbie which included a karaoke-style teleprompter, encouraging everyone in the audience to sing along. Ken himself descended into the audience with a microphone and had sing with him. It is probably a good estimate that Stone’s dress ripped at that moment. Luckily, she didn’t have to endure a broken dress for the whole night. According to People, she was saved just after she stepped off the stage.

“They sewed me back in. Right when I came back, they sewed me back in, which was wonderful.”

Poor Things was the second Best Actress win for Stone, who earned her inaugural accolade for her 2016 performance in jazz musical La La Land. Her win is the most recent in a string of successes, and the actor made sure to thank her fellow actors in the category who were just as deserving.

Has Danny DeVito ever been nominated for an Oscar? 5c1a58 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/has-danny-devito-ever-been-nominated-for-an-oscar/ <![CDATA[Rafaela Coimbra]]> Mon, 11 Mar 2024 13:53:09 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[Academy Awards]]> <![CDATA[Danny Devito]]> <![CDATA[Oscars]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2024]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1670345 <![CDATA[
With such a long career, he must've had at least one... right?]]>
<![CDATA[

To this day, Danny DeVito remains one of the most well-known names in Hollywood. Working since 1969, this actor and filmmaker has had an extensive career, and everyone even remotely familiar with the film and TV industries knows it.

It’s almost impossible to forget DeVito’s iconic portrayals of characters such as Taxi’s Louie De Palma, Batman Returns’ Penguin, or Twins‘ Vincent Benedict. (Not to mention Frank Reynolds from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a role which the star has been playing for almost two decades.) No matter how one looks at it, you can’t talk about Hollywood’s most popular stars without mentioning DeVito, who has even served as an inspiration for successful projects in the entertainment industry.

With such a long and iconic career, it stands to reason that DeVito would have a fair share of awards and nominations to his name — and he does. But how many of those have been attributed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? Fewer than you may be thinking, I bet. In this industry, having been around for long doesn’t necessarily guarantee you recognition. Granted, some actors have grabbed the Academy’s attention more than once throughout the years, but we all know that’s not an easy task to accomplish.

Has Denny DeVito received any Oscar nominations? 166p1o

Yes, Danny DeVito has been nominated for an Oscar, but not for his acting. In 2001, Erin Brockovich — a biographical film DeVito co-produced with Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher — received five nominations in the 73rd Academy Awards, including one for Best Picture. While Julia Roberts received recognition for her work in the film with a win for Best Actress, the same cannot be said about Erin Brockovich‘s producers. That night, it was Gladiator that ended up taking home the Best Picture award, dashing DeVito’s hopes for a major Oscar win.

The 2001 Oscars marked the first and last time that Danny DeVito was nominated for an Academy Award, and it wasn’t even for his work as an actor, despite all the incredible films he has been in. This may understandably come as a surprise to film enthusiasts, who have been closely following the star’s career. As we all know, De Vito isn’t getting any younger, but as long as he remains active in the industry, there’s still hope. With or without validation from the Academy, though, this Hollywood star will surely keep doing what he loves most for the foreseeable future.

The Academy Awards recently celebrated its 96th edition filled with glamour, talent, and, of course, the most iconic names in Hollywood history. With everyone in attendance fulfilling their duty as the entertainment world’s most coveted faces, it was only fitting for Mary Steenburgen to be on the roster.

For decades, we’ve seen Steenburgen portray a slew of characters on our screens. We’ve watched her as Clara Clayton in Back to the Future Part III, Belinda Conine in Philadelphia, Elaine Stein in The Help, and of course, in her history-making roles in Time After Time and Melvin and Howard. Since 1978, we’ve had the pleasure of seeing her time and time again on our screens, and we continue to do so.

Yesterday, she presented the award for Best ing Actress alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, Lupita Nyong’o, Rita Moreno, and Regina King, ultimately awarding Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her role in The Holdovers — a well-deserved win. With that said, we know that Mary Steenburgen has previously won an Oscar in the same category, but does she have many more?

How many Oscars does Mary Steenburgen have? f356x

You’ll probably be surprised to discover that Mary Steenburgen has only received one Academy Award in the entirety of her career. The 71-year-old actress earned her first and only Oscar in 1981, for her portrayal of Lynda West Dummar in Jonathan Demme’s Melvin and Howard. That same year, she collected a total of seven accolades for her role, losing only one of the eight nominations for that movie.

Naturally, as you can expect, that’s not where her accolade history ends. Since 2004, the actress has remained woven into victories, winning every single award she’s been nominated for, including a SAG award for her role in The Help, and several awards for the best original song in Wild Rose.

Despite only having one Academy Award, in the grand scheme of things, Mary Steenburgen continues to be an absolute icon who will hopefully continue to woo us off our feet, walking hand in hand down the red carpet with Michael — oops, I mean, Ted Danson.

There were so many great candidates all vying for the Best ing Actor award this year. It ultimately went to Robert Downey Jr. for his role in Oppenheimer, meaning legendary actor, Robert De Niro left the ceremony empty-handed last night.

Has Robert De Niro won an Oscar before? 1a6d36

Missing out on the award on Sunday night for his role in Killers of the Flower Moon probably wasn’t that much of a big deal for the Taxi Driver star. He’s been in countless brilliant films, from The Godfather Part II, to Goodfellas, If you’ve seen any of his greatest films you’d probably expect that he’s won an Oscar for at least one of them.

What roles has Robert De Niro won Oscars for? 23d3f

De Niro has two Oscar awards in total. His first came in 1975 for Best ing Actor in The Godfather Part II, his second came six years later when he won the Best Actor award for Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull. All in all, the actor has been nominated nine times since 1975, five times for Best Actor, three times for Best ing Actor and once as a producer. His nominations for Best Actor were for Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Awakenings, Cape Fear, his nominations for Best ing Actor were for The Godfather Part II, Silver Linings Playbook, and Killers of the Flower Moon, and he picked up a Best Picture nomination for The Irishman.

So whilst he may have missed out on an Oscar this year, let’s not forget, few actors have as many awards and nominations as De Niro. And besides; Robert Downey Jr. was long overdue for some recognition from the academy.

It was a history-making evening, but not as much as it could've been. ]]>

The Oscars might just be simple movie awards for some, but they are monumental achievements for others. Even with the decrease in public interest, they’re still among the most prestigious awards one could ever win.

From under-represented communities breaking ground with the Academy to movie legends cementing their place among the all-time greats, the 96th Academy Awards achieved all kinds of records, even if some opportunities were controversially missed. One thing is for sure, though: history was made on March 10

Cillian Murphy wins the Oscar for Best Actor dtm

The Irish have been dominating the entertainment industry in the past few years. Paul Mescal, Andrew Scott, Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Ruth Negga, Fiona Shaw, and, of course, Cillian Murphy — the world of movies and television owes a great debt of gratitude to the great nation of Ireland. And yet, never has an Irish-born person won an Oscar for Best Actor. Until now.

I know what you’re thinking — what about one of the greatest actors of all time and three-time Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis? Well, DDL does indeed have British-Irish citizenship, but he was born in London. Murphy led the race after securing the SAG award in February, and sure enough his Best Actor win serves as a fitting climax to the Hollywood Irish renaissance of the 2020s.

Justine Triet wins the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay 3o1u2u

Anatomy of a Fall Nation was holding out hope Justine Triet would win at least one Oscar on Sunday (I know this because I, too, am part of it). Despite her film taking Cannes and the world by storm this past year, Triet unfortunately wasn’t the favorite to win in either of the categories she was up for; Best Original Screenplay (she co-wrote Anatomy of a Fall with her partner Arthur Harari) and Best Director.

And yet, against all the odds, a miracle struck on Sunday and Triet came away with the Best Original Screenplay gong. This means she is the first French woman to win in that category. Due to Christopher Nolan beating her to Best Director, though, it’s still a fact that only three women have won the Oscar for Best Director in the past (Kathryn Bigelow, 2010; Chloé Zhao, 2021; Jane Campion, 2022).

The Zone of Interest wins the Oscar for Best International Film 3h5hk

The Best International Feature Film category was a funny one this year. Anatomy of a Fall, a French movie nominated in almost every big category, was not ’s submission for the bracket. Perfect Days is a Japanese film made by a German man, and Italy’s submission, Io Capitano, barely has a lick of Italian in its two-hour runtime.

Similarly, The Zone of Interest, spoken entirely in German and set in Poland, is a British film. As a result, the Oscar winner stands as the UK’s first-ever win in the Best International Film category. The space is reserved for movies spoken not in the English language. The UK’s previous nominees in the category were for films with Welsh dialogue.

Lily Gladstone winning the Oscar for Best Actress 5g4x3g

Lily Gladstone has already made history by becoming the first Native American person to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress (three other, non-American, Indigenous women have been nominated before — Merle Oberon, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Yalitza Aparicio). They also became the first Native American/Indigenous winner of the SAG Award in the same category, sending them well on their way to repeating the feat at the Oscars.

Gladstone’s arresting performance as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon would’ve granted the actress her first career Oscar and made her the first Indigenous woman to win for an acting performance and the first Native American Oscar winner ever. Of course, this didn’t end up happening as Emma Stone took the gong for the second time for Poor Things. Likewise Osage Nation songwriter Scott George, and the author of Best Original Song contender “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People),” would’ve made history if he won as the first Native American man to be nominated in this category. However, Billie Eilish topped the category for Barbie‘s “What Was I Made For">Photo by Frank Micelotta/Getty Images

Of course, when you talk about Marty, you have to talk about Thelma. Possibly the greatest director-editor duo of all time, Scorsese’s film very nearly gave Thelma Schoonmaker a chance at making history too. The editor almost finally broke out of the four-way tie she’s been in since she won the Oscar for Best Editing for The Departed in 2007, bringing her total to three trophies (she had previously won for The Aviator and Raging Bull). Michael Kahn, Daniel Mandell, and Ralph Dawson all have three Oscars for Best Editing as well.

As it was, Schoonmaker lost out to Jennifer Lame for Oppenheimer, as predicted. Nevertheless, the turn of events shouldn’t be too sore for Schoonmaker as she remains the single most nominated person in the category with nine nods over the years — all but one for collaborations with Scorsese.

What the heck happened with Al Pacino at the Oscars? Al Pacino is a hero for saving people's time!]]>
<![CDATA[

As predicted, Oppenheimer took home the lion’s share of Oscar wins on Sunday night. Although, whilst announcing the film’s win for Best Picture, legendary actor Al Pacino made a minor slip up that broke Oscar’s tradition.

Oppenheimer won seven of the 13 Oscars it was nominated for, Aside from Best Picture, the film scored awards for lead actor Cillian Murphy as well as an award for Robert Downey Jr. for best ing actor. The award for Best Picture was announced at the end of the ceremony as usual, this year The Godfather actor, Al Pacino was there to announce the winner.

What did Al Pacino do? 6el6p

Typically the Best Picture award would be given a little bit of a dramatic build up, there would be some tension, all the nominees for the category would be announced first and then after a bit more waiting, the winner would be announced. Although Pacino was having none of that this year as he skipped straight to announcing Christopher Nolan’s biopic as the winner. You can see the clip for yourself here.

To be fair, he built it up a little bit, teasing the audience as he opened the envelope, but it all fell apart when, as soon as he opened the envelope he announced, ‘my eyes see Oppenheimer.’ The whole thing happens pretty fast, and it’s almost underwhelming, you can hear the people in the crowd actually processing the fact that they just heard the winner as the clapping and cheering take a moment to start in full. They were all probably recovering from whiplash thanks to Pacino’s speedy announcement.

Why exactly did he do that? It’s not clear, it seems like in the excitement of the moment he may have just forgotten the usual procedure; or maybe he just didn’t feel like playing the Academy’s game this year. He’s 83 after all, perhaps he just wanted an early night, which he certainly got as his slip-up meant that the awards ceremony didn’t run late for the first time in years, in fact, they were able to wrap it all up a few minutes early.

Mistakes like this seem par for the course at the Oscars 4v51g

If you know anything about the history of the Academy Awards then you’ll know that this is nothing compared to past dramas at the ceremony. The infamous Will Smith slap took the world by storm a couple of years ago. Although this incident reminded many of the 2017 Best Picture drama in which Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced the wrong winner, claiming La La Land won the award over Moonlight, assuming it was a misprint. Of course, Pacino’s mistake doesn’t come anywhere near the level of sheer second-hand embarrassment many felt watching the 2017 Oscars, but it was still a funny little moment that got people talking.

Who designed Emily Blunt’s 2024 Oscars dress? 6c5xk https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/who-designed-emily-blunts-2024-oscars-dress/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/who-designed-emily-blunts-2024-oscars-dress/#respond <![CDATA[Tom Disalvo]]> Mon, 11 Mar 2024 02:51:45 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[Events]]> <![CDATA[Academy Awards]]> <![CDATA[Emily Blunt]]> <![CDATA[Oscars]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2024]]> <![CDATA[Schiaparelli]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1670295 <![CDATA[
Some viewers said the Oscar nominee's dress resembled a pair of underwear.]]>

While there are often moments that pull focus during the Oscars (you know, like an A-lister slapping the host during the ceremony), sometimes the buzziest things happen outside of the awards show itself.

The 96th Academy Awards delivered a range of eyebrow-raising moments, from Ryan Gosling’s performance of I’m Just Ken to John Cena presenting a trophy while stark naked. And then there was the whole Al-Pacino-announcing-Best-Picture-with-zero-aplomb thing. Even amid all of that, stars managed to turn heads mostly on the red carpet. Vanessa Hudgens used the pre-ceremony period to announce that she is pregnant with her first child, and for her part, Emily Blunt stole the spotlight with an eye-popping dress.

Blunt, who was nominated for Best ing Actress for her role in Oppenheimer, proved that attention-grabbing Oscar moments can happen outside of the Dolby Theatre. So who is the mastermind behind Emily Blunt’s iconic look?

Who designed Emily Blunt’s 2024 Oscars dress? 3erc

The gold, statuesque dress worn by Emily Blunt on the 2024 Oscars red carpet was designed by Schiaparelli. The dress was instantly notable for looking like the Oscar statue itself, but also caught attention by appearing to defy gravity. The plated torso of the dress remained stationary, with the sleeves stiffened over Blunt’s shoulders. The unique design meant that the look stayed in place even as Blunt was moving, giving the appearance that it was floating.

Blunt paired the dress with Alexandre Birman shoes, a Judith Leiber clutch, and Tiffany & Co. jewelry, while sporting a fishtail-braided bun. The look has somewhat divided fans, with some saying the jewels below the waist of the gown resembled a pair of underwear or a jock strap. Others were confused by the dress’ gravity-defying properties.

For his part, Blunt’s husband and fellow actor John Krasinski ed her on the red carpet in a matching off-white tuxedo. While Blunt ultimately lost out on the night to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers, Oppenheimer was the big winner, taking trophies for Best Actor (Cillian Murphy),Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Picture.

Blunt is one of multiple stars to wear a Schiaparelli-designed dress to the Oscars. This year, fellow nominee Sandra Hüller turned heads with an exaggerated off-the-shoulder piece created by the designer, with Naomi Campbell, Maggie Gyllenhaal and others gracing the Oscars red carpet in Schiaparelli in previous years.

Blunt later wore the Schiaparelli dress while presenting an Oscar alongside Barbie star and nominee Ryan Gosling. The pair hilariously traded barbs over the 2023 Barbenheimer craze, with many viewers crowning them the best presenters of the night.
