Brazil doesn’t play about Fernanda Torres, and rightfully so. The icon has been the joy of the people this awards season, and through it all, they ride or die for their queen. So when it was announced that Mikey Madison won the Oscar for Best Actress, Torres sprung into action soon after.

Emotions tend to run high, and the 2025 Oscars were no exception. Similarly, Brazilians are known for their ion and domination on social media. Just a few weeks ago, the citizens were integral in exposing Karla Sofia Gascón’s vile and racist remarks. As such ionate people, it was no surprise that Fernanda Torres didn’t leave anything to chance. As the unofficial queen of Brazil, she issued a very important directive to her fierce and loyal ers.

A class act through and through

Fernanda Torres was nominated for her breathtaking portrayal of Eunice Paiva in I’m Still Here. The film has understandably taken Brazil and the world by storm. With I’m Still Here dominating conversations and generating massive , many fans believed Torres had a strong shot at winning the Best Actress Oscar. However, when the envelope was opened, it was Mikey Madison’s name that was called for her performance in Anora. Understandably, some Torres ers were disappointed, and in today’s social media climate, disappointment can quickly turn into outrage.

Rather than sulking or letting the loss stir up drama, Torres took a different approach. During a press conference after the ceremony, she delivered a simple but powerful message to her fans:

Brazil is very ionate and all, but I wanted to ask that you only send love to Madison. Send only love because that woman is amazing. That’s all I wanted to ask.

And just like that, Torres shut down any potential negativity and set the tone for how she wanted her loss to be handled. Instead of fueling online debates or allowing hostility to fester, she made it clear that kindness and respect should come first.

Directed by Walter Salles, I’m Still Here tells the harrowing true story of a woman who refuses to stay silent after her politician husband disappears under Brazil’s military dictatorship in 1971. The film ignited political discussions in Brazil, and has been a massive box office success, making it the highest-grossing homegrown movie in the country in over five years.

Torres’s gracious response quickly went viral, with fans praising her sportsmanship and classy attitude. And although she didn’t take home the award for Best Actress, I’m Still Here still had a triumphant night. The film won the Oscar for Best International Feature, solidifying its place in cinematic history. Beyond awards, its cultural and political impact in Brazil is undeniable. With over five million tickets sold, its influence stretches far beyond the big screen, sparking conversations about the country’s past, present, and future. For Torres, the film’s success likely means more than any individual award. Her performance has already been immortalized in the hearts of viewers. While some awards show reactions can spiral into controversy, Torres turned her loss into a moment of unity and positivity.

Now that Ghostface has won an Oscar, maybe Hollywood will finally start taking horror more seriously https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/now-that-ghostface-has-won-an-oscar-maybe-hollywood-will-finally-start-taking-horror-more-seriously/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/now-that-ghostface-has-won-an-oscar-maybe-hollywood-will-finally-start-taking-horror-more-seriously/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 20:34:48 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839317 Horror deserves better. Period.]]>

Without a doubt, the horror genre has been absolutely brilliant over the last several years, and one could argue that it’s the best it’s ever been. And yet, the seemingly unwavering stance from Hollywood still paints the horror genre as inferior compared to other profitable avenues of content.

Indeed, the horror catalogue is an acquired taste, and I confidently say that as a die-hard spooky fanatic myself. So when it comes time to digest graphic gothic horror such as Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu or the underlying yet disturbing message in The Substance, it makes sense why Hollywood “judges” have trouble swallowing the idea that horror movies deserve to take home any Oscars gold.

Despite this perceived critical distaste for horror, however, the genre has thrived nevertheless, with Mikey Madison nabbing an Oscar for Best Actress for Anora and simultaneously etching her name in horror history as the first Academy Award-winning actor to ever play Ghostface. Madison’s portrayal as Ghostface in Scream (2022) was undoubtedly unforgettable, with a plethora of critics labeling her performance as a standout in the movie — so it’s no major shock that she’s now achieved Best Actress success.

But as many times as horror has marked wins under its bet, it has suffered far greater losses. For instance, while Madison was praised across social platforms such as TikTok and X, horrorhounds were as equally upset that Hollywood failed to reward the statue to actress Demi Moore for her incredible work in The Substance, which is, yep, you guessed it — a horror movie.

Now, that’s not to say that Madison wasn’t awe-inspiring in Sean Baker’s Anora, because she absolutely was. But, let’s paint a grander picture here. Hollywood overlooks Demi Moore for her work in a horror project? Check. The Substance only won a single Oscar? Check. Not a single win for Nosferatu? Check. Horror legend and Hollywood icon Tony Todd was left out of the In Memoriam portion of the ceremony? Check. Now, are you starting to understand why the horror community harbors sour grapes for the Oscars?

Sure, the Academy Awards has occasionally recognized the horror genre in the past — with both Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster respectively winning for The Silence of the Lambs, and Kathy Bates winning Best Actress back in 1991 for Misery — but the recognition has been notably thin and extremely rare.

So, is a Ghostface actress winning an Oscar a good thing? Absolutely, because it only solidifies the brilliant acting prowess swimming in the horror genre, especially when said talents eventually pursue other genres and showcase their gift. That being said, does Hollywood and the Oscars have some serious catching up to do in regards to actually awarding horror filmmakers, performers, producers, and writers for their exemplary work? You’re damn right.

Now that he’s won an Oscar, Kieran Culkin’s wife owes him a special prize https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/now-that-hes-won-an-oscar-kieran-culkins-wife-owes-him-a-special-prize/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/now-that-hes-won-an-oscar-kieran-culkins-wife-owes-him-a-special-prize/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 18:49:37 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839266 Time to pay up, Jazz!]]>

Every time someone puts a mic and camera in front of Kieran Culkin, you expect to be entertained. Fortunately, the Oscar-winner never disappoints. He’s been on an impressive run of late, and his acceptance speeches have been as chaotic as you’d expect. However, with all his unconventional award acceptance speeches, he decided to hold his wife to a promise she made. And following his recent win, it looks like it’s time for her to pay up.

Kieran Culkin revealed his wife’s promise in his Emmy 2024 Speech.

Kieran Culkin and Succession had an amazing year in 2023, which led to a stacked award season. The show and its actors were nominated for every major award, from the Golden Globes to the Critics Choice Awards. But it was during the Emmys that Culkin made a shockingly hilarious announcement.

With teary eyes, he thanked his Succession co-stars, as well as Jesse Armstrong, the show’s creator, his manager, and his mom. He concluded his speech with a heartfelt mention to his wife, Jazz Charton. “Thank you for sharing your life with me and giving me two amazing kids,” he said, as she tearfully mouthed a “I love you,” in response. The crowd was eating up the romance, but he switched up the vibe as he cheekily added, “And, Jazz, I want more. You said maybe if I win!”

The couple have two children, a daughter, Kinsey Sioux and a son, Wilder Wolf. Both Culkin and Charon tend to be private about their personal lives and have chosen to hide their kids’ faces online. However, Culkin is very vocal about how much he loves being a father

The Oscar’s 2025 sequel

During his acceptance speech for his first-ever Oscar, Culkin was slightly less emotional, but no less entertaining. After making his rounds of gratitude, he ended the speech, as always with a special thanks to his wife. However, he didn’t just say a generic thank you, but updated us on a story he started a year ago.

As his speech drew to an end, he said, “Please don’t play the music because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz,” he started. “About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award she would give me the kid,” he explained.

It turned out she said that because she didn’t think I was gonna win. But, anyway, after the show, we’re walking through a parking lot, she’s holding the Emmy. We’re trying to find our car, and she goes, “Oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I told her, I said, ‘Really I want four.’ And she turned to me, I swear to God, this happened. It was just over a year ago. She said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’ I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now.

He directed the last part of his speech to his wife, who could barely contain her smiles. “You that, honey? Okay, then just have to say this to you, Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure, I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again, and let’s get cracking on those kids!”

‘I want to be as unbothered’: Don’t look now, but a $440 million movie megastar flaunted street clothes at the Oscars https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/i-want-to-be-as-unbothered-dont-look-now-but-a-440-million-movie-megastar-flaunted-street-clothes-at-the-oscars/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/i-want-to-be-as-unbothered-dont-look-now-but-a-440-million-movie-megastar-flaunted-street-clothes-at-the-oscars/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 18:02:29 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839197 We all aspire to be this unbothered.]]>

From Kieran Culkin hilariously encouraging his wife to reward him with a 3rd and 4th child to a much-needed June Squibb appearance, the 2025 Oscars were jam-packed with moments we’ll never forget.

Perhaps the most unforgettable segment from the star-studded ceremony, however, has nothing to do with an actual gold statue from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and instead has everything to do with comedic legend Adam Sandler ditching a suit for the event and donning eye-catching street clothes in front of millions.

I know, on the surface it sounds like I’m joking, but I’m totally not — Sandler really did make an appearance at the Oscars in a blue zip-up hoodie, blue basketball shorts, sneakers, and a beach-style polo shirt underneath. Look, if anybody can get away with dressing like that at cinema’s biggest night of the year, it’s the very man who co-wrote 2011’s Jack and Jill.

What made the moment all the more hilarious is when Sandler rose to his feet from his seat and walked over to Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet, who was looking to nab his first Best Actor statue for his incredible work as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. Sprinkling in another touch of comedy, Sandler playfully hugged the younger actor and yelled “CHALAMET” in his typical Sandman voice.

Jokes aside, this is hardly a surprising display of free will from Sandler, who typically goes against trendy fashion norms, opting to avoid the stereotype as a “rich celebrity” in his everyday life. Most of us have seen the snapshots from the paparazzi of Sandler walking the streets of LA in basketball shorts and hoodies, so seeing him flaunt that same outfit on national television is just the cherry on top of the unbothered sundae.

Unbothered, in fact, is exactly what the pop culture landscape is calling this unorthodox moment. On social media platforms such as TikTok and X, netizens are singing Sandler’s praises, with many applauding how “unbothered” he is and how he lives life by marching to the beat of his own drum. Even during the broadcast, when host Conan O’Brien jokingly brought up Sandler’s attire, the Happy Gilmore actor responded: “I like the way I look, I don’t care about what I wear and what I don’t wear.”

Is Sandler worth $440 million? Yes. Has that net worth only continued to rise over the years thanks to a staggering partnership with Netflix and a boatload of comedic classics behind him? Sure. But has any of that stopped Sandler from dressing like a high school gym teacher? Of course not, and we absolutely love him for it.

Where can I stream ‘Anora?’ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/where-can-i-stream-anora/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/where-can-i-stream-anora/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 14:54:57 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839177 Where can you watch this year's official Best Picture?]]>

Even before its big win at the Academy Awards, Anora was already generating buzz. The new film from Sean Baker won the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes film festival and received incredibly high praise from critics and audiences alike upon its general release.

But the winning streak didn’t stop there. Last night Anora bagged an impressive five Oscars, including the Best Actress award for break-out star Mikey Madison along with four awards for Sean Baker, an achievement last accomplished by Walt Disney 70 years ago. Naturally, the comedy-drama is now getting a whole lot more attention after such an impressive haul, but a lot of people may have missed it during its initial run in theaters. So is Anora available to watch on streaming? And if so, where?

Where to watch ‘Anora’

Right now, Anora isn’t available to stream on any of the vast selection of streaming services out there. However, it is available to rent on most platforms, including Amazon Prime, Apple TV, YouTube, and Google Play Movies for the reasonable price of $5.99.

It’s definitely worth the price, as the film features numerous great performances, not just from Madison, but her co-stars too. Mark Eydelshteyn is great as the spoilt son of a Russian oligarch while Yura Borisov (who was also nominated for the Best ing Actor Award) is another stand-out. Of course, the writing and directing speak for themselves, it’s a great story, and Sean Baker has proven he is a director worth following.

For those who would rather wait for a physical release the film will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from April 29th 2025.

When will ‘Anora’ be available on streaming?

While it’s not always easy to predict when a film will be available to watch on streaming fans won’t have to wait too long to see Anora at home without paying extra to rent it, as the Oscar winning picture is expected to arrive on Hulu as soon as this month. According to an article from Forbes the film will be available on the streaming platform from Mar. 17th and for those who do not have a Hulu , they can get a 30-day trial let’s you experience the film for free.

It’s not yet known if Anora will be made available elsewhere at a later date, although like most films, it’s likely it will come and go on the various platforms in the coming months and years, so keep an eye out as this is one Oscar winner you won’t want to miss.

Did Gal Gadot really skip presenting the Oscar for Best Documentary because she hated the winner? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/did-gal-gadot-really-skip-presenting-the-oscar-for-best-documentary-because-she-hated-the-winner/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/did-gal-gadot-really-skip-presenting-the-oscar-for-best-documentary-because-she-hated-the-winner/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 14:54:38 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839106 Did Gal Gadot really not want to have to hand an Oscar to a movie that s Palestine?]]>

Last night, No Other Land rightly scooped up an Oscar for Best Documentary. The movie is an Israeli/Palestinian collaboration chronicling Israel’s destruction of Masafer Yatta, the Palestinian director Basel Adra’s hometown. The documentary sees Adra befriend Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, as they seek to tell their story.

The documentary received huge buzz on the festival circuit and – despite there being no plans for a domestic release – has attracted a lot of attention. On picking up the prize, Abraham explained that “we made this film as Palestinians and Israelis because, together, our voices are stronger.”

Given that this is a hot-button topic, many have been left infuriated that a documentary they perceive as critical of Israel won an Oscar. But does that extend to the Oscar presenters? There’s a theory floating around on social media that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot was supposed to present the Best Documentary award, but pulled out upon realizing she might have to hand an Oscar to a Palestinian movie.

On the night, Gadot (and her Snow White co-star Rachel Zegler) presented the Best Visual Effects award, while Best Documentary was presented by Selena Gomez and Samuel L. Jackson.

On a surface level, the theory makes some sense. Gadot is not just Israeli, but in 2004, she was literally crowned “Miss Israel.” She went on to serve in the IDF for two years and apparently considers it “her duty” as a celebrity to speak out in of Israel. So, would it really be plausible for Gadot to learn the winner of her category and quietly request to present something else? As one commenter put it:

Gal Gadot refusing to present the best documentary Oscar for No Other Land is the perfect embodiment of Israel. They refuse to acknowledge the truth of their genocidal actions & when confronted, run away like the chicken ****s they are.”

The truth

At least as far as the public is told, the Oscar presenters have no idea what’s inside the envelope they’re holding, so if Gadot was to present this category, she wouldn’t know that No Other Land would be the winner. Though this something of a moot point, as it appears Gadot was never confirmed to be presenting the award for Best Documentary in the first place. The story appears to have started as wishful “wouldn’t it be funny if” thinking and, through a game of internet telephone, became reality for many people.

This hasn’t stopped many outlets from reporting the story as fact, with NME claiming that she “switched categories for an unknown reason.” To be fair, we have no insight into the behind-the-scenes machinations at the awards, so it’s not impossible that this is true. But, based on everything else I’ve seen, it appears to be *drum roll* fake news.

As it stands, we don’t even know what Gadot’s reaction was to No Other Land winning an Oscar, as the cameras didn’t pan to her when the award was announced. Maybe she was stone-faced and livid, maybe she was politely applauding – we’ll just have to wait for someone who was actually there to confirm one way or the other.

‘I don’t share your opinion’: Zoe Saldaña finally responds to Mexican backlash to ‘Emilia Perez’ after Oscar win https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/i-dont-share-your-opinion-zoe-saldana-finally-responds-to-mexican-backlash-to-emilia-perez-after-oscar-win/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/i-dont-share-your-opinion-zoe-saldana-finally-responds-to-mexican-backlash-to-emilia-perez-after-oscar-win/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 13:46:48 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839136 Zoe Saldaña took her sweet time responding to the 'Emilia Perez' drama.]]>

Despite being an awards tank, Netflix’s Emilia Perez has been the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. Between its star getting into trouble over old offensive tweets and the swaths of people determined to prove how bad of a movie it is, the road has been bumpy since day one. And now, Zoe Saldaña has finally responded to the backlash.

The poor press didn’t manage to stop the awards circuit momentum, however. Karla Sofia Gascón showed up to the 2025 Oscars despite knowing she’d be the target of a jab by host Conan O’Brien (her nomination came after she was “canceled”) and Emilia Perez still took home statues despite the haters’ cries.

One winner was Saldaña, who took home her first Academy Award for ing Actress. The Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy actor is perhaps the least controversial part of this sordid affair, with her performance widely praised. However, she felt the need to clarify things in the press room when a journalist commented that Emilia Perez was “really hurtful for us Mexicans.”

The Guardian reported she took the point seriously. She responded, “I’m very, very sorry that you and so many Mexicans felt offended.” She also added that the crew, mostly made up of Europeans, were coming from a place of empathy, not malice. “That was never our intention. We spoke from a place of love,” she said.

Though the Dominican-American star respected the reporter who raised the point, she disagreed with the sentiments. “I don’t share your opinion,” Saldaña shared, seemingly implying that the movie’s setting was not a commentary on Mexico. “For me, the heart of this movie was not Mexico. We were making a film about friendship. We were making a film about four women.”

Regardless of her comments, Mexican people, their culture, and the problems immigrants face in the U.S. were major threads in the story. Emilia Perez is, first and foremost, a character drama, but it’s challenging to separate the people in it from their backgrounds, which heavily influenced themes in the narrative.

She continued, “These women could have been Russian, could have been Dominican, could have been Black from Detroit, could have been from Israel, could have been from Gaza. And these women are still very universal women that are struggling every day, but trying to survive systemic oppression and trying to find the most authentic voices.”

Saldaña concluded, “So I will stand by that, but I’m also always open to sit down with all of my Mexican brothers and sisters, with love and respect, [to have] a great conversation on how Emilia could have been done better.” With this topic not going away, it’s clear that conversation needs to happen.

‘Absolutely horrible’: Horror fans riot as the Oscars forget to honor a true movie icon https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/absolutely-horrible-horror-fans-riot-as-the-oscars-forget-to-honor-a-true-movie-icon/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/absolutely-horrible-horror-fans-riot-as-the-oscars-forget-to-honor-a-true-movie-icon/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 12:03:54 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839082 They didn't even say his name once, let alone five times!]]>

The Oscars ‘In Memoriam’ sequence is always one of the most touching moments of the ceremony, paying solemn tribute to those who contributed to the world of cinema. This year’s felt especially moving, with Morgan Freeman introducing the segment by paying personal tribute to his Unforgiven co-star Gene Hackman.

Other richly deserved tributes included Kris Kristofferson, Shelley Duvall, Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones, and Donald Sutherland, as well as directors Norman Jewison and David Lynch (Isabella Rosselini also paid tribute to Lynch by wearing a Blue Velvet dress).

But each year, there are omissions from this segment that leave fans surprised and offended. Sure, the Oscars ceremony is famously strict on timing, but why leave out Michelle Trachtenberg, Olivia Hussey, and Shannon Doherty? But beyond that trio of stars another person was left out — and it’s left horror fans hopping mad.

That’s because the Candyman himself, Tony Todd, was cruelly omitted from the list. You could maybe argue that Trachtenberg and Doherty were primarily television actors, but Todd appeared in over 100 feature films, including major hits like Platoon, The Crow, The Rock, and multiple Final Destination movies. But by far his most iconic role was as the terrifying but tragic Daniel Robitaille in the Candyman movies.

The 1992 original ranks as one of the best horror movies of that decade, mixing in scares with social commentary to lasting effect. Nia DaCosta’s 2021 sequel saw Todd return to the role for the final time, cementing his status as a horror icon. Todd died of cancer in Nov. 2024, resulting in a wave of affection for him from the industry. But, apparently, not from the Academy. And fans aren’t pleased:

“Vile” is the right word:

We won’t overlook him either:

It really is a snub:

If you want to do what the Oscars couldn’t and Todd, you’re spoiled for options. There’s his glittering filmography, extensive TV work, a huge catalog of voice acting for DC superhero projects (his Darkseid is particularly great), and two recent barnstorming video game performances in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (as Venom) and in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Once again, RIP Tony Todd. You deserve to be honored by the industry you gave so much to.

Oscars 2025 recap: ‘Anora’ wins big as Adrien Brody takes home his second Oscar and 3 other actors nab their first https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/oscars-2025-live-updates/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/oscars-2025-live-updates/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 05:21:05 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1838835 It was also an epic night for the 'Dune' sandworm, if we're being honest. ]]>

The 2025 Oscars have come and gone, and the 97th annual ceremony was nothing if not memorable. In a year that finds us literally needing Andrew Garfield to stand on televised stages donning dark-rimmed glasses (thank you, Andrew), we are grateful to have gotten just that ⏤ and so much more.

The big winner of the night was Anora, which took home an impressive five Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Original Screenplay (Sean Baker), and Best Editing (Sean Baker). It was basically a fabulous night to be Sean Baker, but if your name was Adrien Brody, Zoe Saldaña, or Kieran Culkin, you made out pretty well yourself. Brody took home his second Best Actor Oscar for The Brutalist while Saldaña and Culkin ed Madison in taking home their first (for Emilia Perez and A Real Pain, respectively).

It was also a tremendous night to be a Wicked fan, and not just because of the special performance we got from dazzling leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The blockbuster movie musical ended up winning two awards ⏤ Best Production Design and Best Costume Design ⏤ the latter of which made Paul Tazewell the first Black man to win an Oscar in that category. Netflix’s Emilia Perez, which led the night with 13 nominations, took home gold for Best Original Song (“El Mal”) and Saldaña’s performance in the Best ing Actress category. Controversial Best Actress nominee Karla Sofia Gascón was in attendance at the event after recently missing both the SAGs and the Critics Choice Awards, making the Oscars her first major award show appearance in months.

The ceremony also marked Conan O’Brien’s first time hosting the event, but hopefully not his last. Other notable firsts included Timmy Chalamet getting more love in the show’s first 25 minutes than some people get in their entire lifetimes and Flow winning Best Animated Feature Film, marking the first time Latvia has ever won an Oscar. Audiences were also treated to Nick Offerman providing the off-stage narration we never knew we needed (and hope to get again, especially anytime Amy Poehler presents an award). One of the more jaw-dropping moments of the night (besides Cynthia Erivo singing “Defying Gravity” live, let’s be real) came during a special segment celebrating James Bond. Introduced by Halle Berry in a stunning custom Christian Siriano, the ensuing medley featured performances by BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye, with a seductive cameo from Margaret Qualley (who might need to be in the next film).

Of course, as much as there was to celebrate, there was also plenty to mourn, like the recent ing of Gene Hackman and Jon M. Chu’s missing Best Director nomination. The “In Memoriam” segment was particularly emotional this year as we once again said goodbye to the likes of Maggie Smith, Shelley Duvall, Teri Garr, Donald Sutherland, and James Earl Jones, to name a few. On the bright side, presenter Mick Jagger received a standing ovation simply for existing and it appeared that Elton John could clearly see him, so that was a win! We were also exposed to a harp-playing sandworm, something I don’t think was on anyone’s Oscar bingo card, and now that Dune: Part Two has taken home awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound, I might have to finally see it.

Here is the complete list of Oscar winners, followed by some of the best-dressed humans you ever did see.

And the Oscar goes to…

And the award for Best Dressed goes to…

The Oscars Red Carpet was a sight to behold, and some of the lewks served by our favorite celebs knocked us absolutely flat. First things first ⏤ can we talk about Ariana Grande being an absolute vision in Schiaparelli spring couture?!

Best Actress nominee Fernanda Torres looked glorious in black and told E! that her dream role would be to star in a remake of Young Frankenstein. Can this happen immediately? Please and thanks.

OKAY WHOOPI WE SEE YOU. Christian Siriano literally said that if he could only dress one person for the rest of his career, it would be Whoop. It’s hard to argue when this is the end result.

Cynthia Erivo came wrapped in a bow like the literal gift she is, and it gave queen of the ball.

Our hearts stopped when we saw that Joe Locke and Kit Connor were in the house!

Songwriting legend Diane Warren was also in attendance and looked fabulous as always. (Did anyone catch her MasterClass documentary?! What an incredible career she’s had.)

Wicked star Marissa Bode naturally gave ruby slipper.

And then we spied with our little eyes a sneaky White Lotus star-on-the-rise!

Zoe Saldaña showed up looking like this and said her next dream is to pick up her kids from school for the rest of the year, causing us to melt like a certain Wizard of Oz character.

Make way for the royalty, people!

Not Selena Gomez literally shining in champagne.

Demi Moore is already being rumored to go down in Oscars history for this *moment*.

And then Timmy Chalamet gave straight-up Laffy Taffy! (I can’t.)

Don’t even get me started on my husband. A vision in caramel.

Despite Hulu’s small stroke at the broadcast’s outset (which left over 34K people in pitch-black streaming darkness), the night ran about as smoothly as one could go. Yes, thankfully, there were no La La Land mixups to give viewers or attendees a collective heart attack. Instead, there was a diverse display of cinematic love, with the wealth being spread amongst many of the night’s nominees, most notably Anora. It was a great night for the nominated films, and now that they’ve gradually begun making their ways to streaming, you finally have a chance to catch up on all the ones you missed while you were busy stressing out about $25 eggs and, oh yeah, America’s impending collapse.

Was Hulu down during the 2025 Oscars? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/was-hulu-down-during-the-2025-oscars/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/was-hulu-down-during-the-2025-oscars/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 03:58:02 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1838953 Of all the nights to short-circuit...]]>

Whenever the Oscars swing around, one of the quieter questions is whether the ceremony will go off without a hitch or not. This year’s ceremony has been chugging along pretty smoothly — complete with Conan O’Brien’s apparent new beef with the entire country of Estonia — but it might need to do a better job of vetting its distributors next time.

Indeed, at approximately 4:24 P.M. PST (per Variety), Hulu — famously billed to be streaming this year’s Oscars — suffered a widespread technical problem that left at least 34,000 s in the literal and proverbial dark.

Fifteen minutes, later, the platform’s X tweeted “Having issues logging in? If so – we’re on it! Our team is actively investigating, and we hope to have things back up and running soon,” while also advising affected s to restart the app and keep an eye out for updates.

At approximately 5:48 P.M. PST, the Hulu brain trust has reportedly found the problem and since corrected it. The damage, however, was already done for many.

Indeed, the ceremony kicked off with the highly anticipated and about as inevitable reunion of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the two nominated leading ladies of Wicked who honored their newfound Oz roots with their already-legendary vocal chords.

Suffice to say there were a lot of Hulu s/Wicked fans who were none too pleased about missing their personalized highlight of the night on of one of what might be the most poorly timed technical error in streaming history.

Luckily for them, there was still plenty of Wicked to go around, even if the night didn’t shake out quite as successfully as they hoped. Jon M. Chu’s beloved adaptation of the hit fantasy musical was up for 10 awards — picking up wins for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, but losing out on Best Visual Effects (Dune: Part Two), Best Sound (Dune: Part Two), Best Original Score (The Brutalist), Best Actress (Mikey Madison, Anora), Best ing Actress (Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez), Best Film Editing (Anora), Best Makeup and Hairstyling (The Substance), and Best Picture (Anora).

Nick Offerman stole the show at 2025 Oscars with announcer role, ‘Parks & Recreation’ callback, and plenty of other gags https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/nick-offerman-stole-the-show-at-2025-oscars-with-announcer-role-parks-recreation-callback-and-plenty-of-other-gags/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/nick-offerman-stole-the-show-at-2025-oscars-with-announcer-role-parks-recreation-callback-and-plenty-of-other-gags/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 03:53:45 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1839029 Is there an award for most deadpan voice?]]>

There are some famous voices that have a legacy all their own, from Morgan Freeman to Julie Andrews, but with his recent Oscars announcer gig, Nick Offerman is coming for the crown.

The Parks and Recreation star took on announcing duties for this year’s Academy Awards, using that trademark gravel to recite the names of presenters throughout the ceremony. At first, viewers might not have been able to place that vaguely familiar narrator, but a comedic bit with Oscars host Conan O’Brien allowed us to put a face to the voice. It all went down when O’Brien was midway through a brief segment on Dune: Part 2, when — seemingly out of nowhere — a disembodied voice interrupted the proceedings.

“This is Conan O’Brien‘s first time hosting the Oscars,” Offerman interjected, mastering the authoritative delivery of the announcers who came before him. As the audience giggled, Offerman continued the bit, saying O’Brien was under “a lot of pressure” with his hosting gig and that the gravity of the ceremony “must weigh on a man’s soul.” After a brief tit-for-tat, the camera then cut to Offerman behind a microphone, saying in his signature deadpan that O’Brien is “one of the great comedians of our time.”

Fans were quick to react to the moment, believing Offerman stole the spotlight with his God-like vocal abilities. “I thought I was imagining things by hearing Nick Offerman voice at the Oscars but no I’m correct,” one onlooker wrote on X, before invoking his Parks and Rec character — “I recognize Ron Swanson’s voice anywhere.” Other fans counted Offerman’s narration alongside Kieran Culkin’s acceptance speech as the “peak” of the ceremony, or believed his announcing duties to be worthy of their own Oscar-level praise.

“Honestly loving Nick Offerman’s conviction and authority in the room tonight as the ‘voice of god,’” they wrote, “fingers crossed he gets pulled into a bit tonight.” While Offerman stole the spotlight in that bit with O’Brien, there was a less attention-grabbing moment that Parks and Rec fans found equally hilarious, and of course it involved Amy Poehler. She was one of the multiple presenters throughout the evening, and in announcing her to the stage, Offerman’s voice-over intentionally mispronounced his former Parks and Rec co-star’s last name.

“Amy Poe-ell-er">acceptance speech.

‘Home Alone’ breakout Kieran Culkin is officially an Oscar winner https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/home-alone-breakout-kieran-culkin-is-officially-an-oscar-winner/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/home-alone-breakout-kieran-culkin-is-officially-an-oscar-winner/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 00:49:08 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1838906 There could be no other way.]]>

Locks have been few and far between this awards season. The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, and Conclave have all vied for the frontrunner position at different points in time, Mikey Madison and Demi Moore have tangoed in the Best Actress pool over these last few months, and Timothée Chalamet’s SAG Award win the other night has shaken up the Best Actor race significantly.

But among the exciting ebb and flow, we’ve been able to count on one man for pure, unadulterated consistency, and that’s Kieran Culkin. He got the Golden Globe, he got the BAFTA, he got the SAG Award, he got the Critics’ Choice Award, and now — as the wolves foretold — A Real Pain has landed Culkin a Best ing Actor Oscar.

The award marks Culkin’s first-ever Academy Award nomination and now win. The Home Alone alumnus is no stranger to this part of showbiz, as he was famously one of the leading men in Jesse Armstrong’s Emmy juggernaut Succession, but the last time he was nominated by a major awards body for his work in a feature film was in 2003’s Igby Goes Down.

The latest Best ing Actor winner was up against Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Culkin’s former Succession co-star Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).

Also representing A Real Pain at this Oscars ceremony is Jesse Eisenberg, who’s nominated for Best Writing (Original Screenplay). That script is up against Sean Baker’s Anora, Brady Corbet’s and Mona Fastvold’s The Brutalist, Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, and September 5‘s writing team of Moritz Binder, Tim Fehlbaum, and Alex David.

The film stars Eisenberg and Culkin as David and Benji Kaplan, two cousins who reunite on a heritage tour through Poland in honor of their late grandmother. The pair are quite the odd couple — David being painfully anxious, Benji being explosively charismatic — but their conflicting personalities are just one part of an equation consisting of family drama, a gutting tragedy, and the history of one of the most horrific evils staring them in the face. Together, the pair reckon with pain of all shapes, sizes, and relevancies, and in their pain, a much-needed cousinly love rears its head, too.

To call Culkin’s work as Benji “masterful” is equal parts redundant and understated — a sweeping of the major awards shows is one thing, but it’s quite another to watch Culkin bring his singular, lovably smarmy thunder to Benji in the film itself. It’s a manic performance full of the energy we’re used to seeing from the actor, but there’s a vulnerability that takes precedence here that subsequently splits off into sweetness and a devastating sorrow.

Indeed, it’s a gut punch of a turn that only Culkin could have crafted, and to see it honored in this way is sure to be one of the finest justices of the whole night, to say nothing of the always-guaranteed, delightfully unhinged speeches that Culkin has become famous for over this last little while.
