Every now and then, in an age of gaming where publishers often think they can get away with shipping a half-baked product to patch up later, a title gets launched that is SO bad, we write it off and forget about it almost immediately. 2p95e

Well, your mostly risk-free opportunity to see if Battlefield 2042 is worthy of redemption has arrived, because the troubled shooter is part of the March lineup of free PlayStation Plus games, ed by Minecraft Dungeons and Code Vein. 

If you recall, Battlefield 2042 was an unmitigated disaster when it launched. While, surprisingly, press outlets listed on review aggregator Metacritic averaged the game at a score of 63 (we didn’t think it was all that great), reviews were much less than favorable, landing at a 2.6 out of 10. This was a result of an abundance of issues it launched with, being plagued by performance issues and lacking basic features like voice chat or even a scoreboard. 

With all that said, in the year and a half since its launch, the game has received numerous updates which addressed a lot of the above problems and made it much more playable and palatable to fans of Battlefield games of old. Now that the only currency invested in getting your hands on it is time, internet bandwidth, and an active PlayStation Plus subscription, it could be worth checking out. Your call. At least it won’t become a regrettable purchase.

Meanwhile, upper-tier PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting access to Rainbow Six Extraction, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tchia, and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection.

It’s a big day for The Last of Us in gaming news because in celebration of its first episode dropping on HBO Max, PlayStation has let PlayStation Plus subscribers try the game for free, and we’ve noticed that the show is closer to the game in more ways than we originally thought. In other news, a game in the Friday the 13th franchise is being taken off digital storefronts while The House of the Dead: Remake comes to PlayStation 5.

PlayStation has made a trial for The Last of Us Part I available 3v446i

If you loved the first episode of The Last of Us which just released on HBO Max, and are interested in seeing if the game might be for you, PlayStation has got you covered. If you subscribe to the PlayStation Plus tier you are able to jump into a trial of The Last of Us Part I on PlayStation 5 at no extra cost. The remake of the original game was released last year, and it will be coming to PC on March 2023, while new episodes of the series are still being released.  

It is worth noting that if you subscribe to the Deluxe tier of PlayStation Plus you will be able to play the entirety of The Last of Us Remastered on PlayStation 4, and on the next-generation consoles with backward compatibility. So, if you are somebody who has become a new fan after watching the first episode or you are somebody who played the original game on the PlayStation 3 and is jonesing to replay it again, PlayStation Plus is a great option for you.

HBO’s The Last of Us might be as long as the first game 3566a

The first episode of The Last of Us, “When You’re Lost in the Darkness”, proved that the series will be quite accurate to the original game in more ways than one. Even though the episode added some scenes to expand the story of the game, like spending some more time with Sarah, Joel’s daughter, the timing for both stories lines up. We are going to dip into spoilers in the next paragraph, so skip a few lines down if you do not want to know.

The episode ends with Joel killing the guard and we get the reveal that Ellie has been “infected”. If you look at a no-commentary playthrough of the game, it almost lines up with the hour and 20-minute runtime of the premiere, getting to roughly an hour and 10 minutes. You can read more about it here, but it would interesting to see if the runtimes line up at the end of the season. 

Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle is being delisted 343a3q

In a weird move, Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle will be removed from digital storefronts soon. According to the developer of the game, Blue Wizard Digital, they were unable to renew the license for Friday the 13th, and that is why the game will be delisted. You will no longer be able to purchase the game beginning Jan. 23, 2023. 

So if you do want the game make sure you buy it on either Steam, the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, the Nintendo Switch eShop, the Xbox One Store, or the PlayStation Store before it is removed, as you will still be able to and play the game after it has been delisted. 

Silent Hill series producer wants more out of the franchise 5n423

The producer of the Silent Hill franchise Motoi Okamoto recently sat down with IGN Japan and he claimed that he wants even more out of the franchise. If you were not aware, a slew of Silent Hill projects was announced last year, including multiple games, a film, and an interactive series. 

The fact we were reviving Silent Hill was a secret until now, so we couldn’t exactly go out and yell, ‘Hey, everyone! Bring us your Silent Hill projects!’ We can do that now, so if creators from around the world who love Silent Hill bring us their pitches, I promise to look through every one of them.

So, we could be seeing much more of the franchise in the future, even more than we already know of. There is an argument that this might dilute the quality of the series, but we will have to wait until the release of the projects to see if that claim holds any water. 

The House of the Dead: Remake coming to PlayStation 5 1431y

You might the classic arcade game The House of the Dead. Well, you will soon be able to play it on PlayStation 5, or at least the remake of the 1997 game. The House of the Dead: Remake was released in 2022, and it will be coming to the next generation console in just a couple of days on Jan. 20, 2023. There’s nothing more anachronistic than playing an older game on one of the most powerful consoles ever made.

If you wanted to know what the best-selling games across all consoles were in 2022, look no further as NPD has released its list. It is worth noting that this list tracks sales in the United States only. The following games made the list.

What might be the most surprising game to make the top 10 is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It must have sold well amongst Star Wars fans and children.

It is also worth noting that the digital sales for Nintendo titles were not counted in the sales numbers, meaning that the two Pokémon titles could have actually been higher on the list. Has all of The Last of Us HBO Max hype got you interested in the show’s video game source material? Well, you’re in luck because PlayStation has announced that PlayStation Plus will be able to try out the game for free.

“Continue Joel and Ellie’s journey with a game trial for The Last of Us Part I available now with PlayStation Plus ,” the official PlayStation Twitter said, along with a link to a “2-hour full game trial.” The game has been “completely rebuilt” for the “latest PS5 engine technology with advanced visual fidelity, fully integrated DualSense wireless controller features, and more.”

Here’s the game’s synopsis, which people who’ve watched the show will be somewhat familiar with:

“In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.”

The game is also available for purchase for $69.99. If you don’t want to pay that much, one intrepid pointed out that you can get the remastered PS4 version for free with the PS Plus collection, a hip that costs $9.99 a month. The PlayStation Plus hip runs $17.99 a month.

However, the remastered version is not the PS5 version, but otherwise, they’re identical for the most part.

The voice cast for Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed o5y2b

Even though the game has been shown off for months, the Hogwarts Legacy team has been keeping the voice cast close to their chest. But wonder no longer, as they have finally revealed their main voice cast. Headlining the group of actors is Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), who is playing the great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black, Heaster Phineas Nigellus Black. 

In addition to Pegg, they also announced that Sebastian Croft and Amelia Gething will be voicing the player character. Hogwarts Legacy is set to be released on Feb. 10, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Brace for impact Xbox fans, as we will be getting an update for what’s coming in 2023 very soon. Xbox has announced that on Jan. 25, we will be getting what they have dubbed a Developer_Direct, which will include updates for The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall. We did mention that the showcase was rumored to be taking place later this month in one of our previous roundups, but Xbox has now confirmed it.

Fans who might be interested to see news about Starfield will have to stay tuned, as they also announced that a Starfield show is in the works. It will presumably be released after the Developer_Direct, and if the game is still set to release in the first half of 2023, you will probably get a release date announcement along with it.

Developer Toys For Bob might have teased a new Spyro game 2q5h52

In an interesting development, we might be getting a new Spyro game. The developers of the Skylanders series, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and the Crash Team Rumble, Toys For Bob, shared a collage on Twitter to celebrate the new year. In the collage is an image of Spyro with “25th” next to it. Fans have jumped at the sight of Spyro, excited at the prospect of a new game. Also featured in the image above is the Crash Team Rumble logo and so is an image of Ghost from Call of Duty. Toys For Bob is owned by Activision, and in 2021 it was announced that they would be working on Call of Duty as a studio.

So, if they are currently working on Call of Duty and Crash Team Rumble, the reason Spyro the Dragon might be featured on the image is that they are working on a new game in that franchise as well. Although the original Spyro the Dragon was released in 1998, so 2023 does mark 25 years since the release of the original game. Seeing as they spent many years working on the Skylanders franchise it could just be their way of commemorating Spyro’s anniversary. Either way, based on the replies under the Tweet, it is clear that fans want a new Spyro game.

Ubisoft has canceled a few games and delayed Skull and Bones again 64a1w

Known for the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry franchises, Ubisoft has reportedly canceled three games, while also delaying Skull and Bones again. It is currently unknown which of Ubisoft’s games have been thrown onto the chopping block, although they were unannounced games, presumingly marking the Ubisoft Star Wars game and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora safe. The move comes after Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope underperformed after it was released to critical acclaim last year.

They announced the news during their recent investor call, where they also referenced that Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Avatars: Frontiers of Pandora, and Skull and Bones are all set to release in the next fiscal year, which begins in April 2023. It is currently unknown how these changes will shape Ubisoft’s plans with their franchises going forward, but we can only hope that it does not lead to layoffs.

Christopher Judge wants to reprise his role as Kratos in the Amazon series 6g604u

It was announced last year that Amazon would be developing a series based on the recent God of War games. Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos in the games, took to Twitter to speak out against the recent fan casting of Dave Bautista in the role. His tweet reads, “Don’t get me wrong, I think @DaveBautista is great, but…” You can read more about the fan reaction here, but fans are adamant that they want Judge to reprise the role he played so well in God of War.

The interesting thing about this month is that after they announced all the games that were coming in January, they updated their post with the information that Sayonara Wild Hearts was incorrectly put on the list, and it is not coming to the catalog.

One of Naughty Dog’s next games might be a follow-up to The Last of Us: Part II, with rumors pointing to The Last of Us: Part III being in development. The story comes from a tweet by ViewerAnon which you can see above. Of course, Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann last spoke about the Last of Us multiplayer game as their project so that will probably be released before The Last of Us: Part III.

Neil Druckmann has said in the past that he does have an idea for The Last of Us: Part III, so it is undoubtedly being worked on in some capacity. But if this tweet is indeed accurate, then it might be coming to PlayStation 5 a little sooner than fans might have originally thought. Of course, both Abby and Ellie made it out of The Last of Us: Part II so there are definitely places the third game could go, but we will have to wait and see.

A live-action God of War series is coming to Amazon 81x2k

A live-action God of War series has been picked up at Amazon. The series is being developed for Amazon Prime Video by Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) who will serve as showrunner, while it will be written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who both wrote Iron Man, Children of Men, and The Expanse. Thankfully the series will not be based on the original God of War games as a raging God of War might not make for entertaining television.

Instead, the series will be based on the 2018 game, which saw Kratos travel to the Norse Realms, start a new family, and raise his son after his wife es away. It is currently unknown whether or not the actors who portrayed the characters in the video games will reprise their roles in the series, or have any role whatsoever, but we can hope. 

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has gotten an opening date 5x6e6k

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood and it will be opening on Feb. 17, 2023. Of course, the Japanese counterpart of Super Nintendo World is already open but now the United States will be able to immerse themselves in the Mario experience. The park includes a Mario Kart-themed ride, interactive Question Blocks, a Toad-themed restaurant, and plenty of iconic locations and characters from the Mario franchise for you to interact with. Nintendo has announced four new Amiibo coming in 2023. All of them are characters who are available as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Kazuya from Tekken and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII releasing on Jan. 13, 2023. Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be made available later in 2023, though no date was given. These Amiibo will be ing the lineup which includes many Nintendo and third-party characters, including Yoshi, Mario, Pac-Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s first major update has been announced 553r3y

The first major update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been announced by Infinity Ward, as you can see from the tweet above. The Season 01 update will be coming to the game starting next week on Nov. 16, 2022. Alongside the update will be the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, Call of Duty’s battle royale. The updates to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 include two new multiplayer maps, one new mode, one new co-op mission, and a new ranked play mode.

As for the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, players will be getting a giant new map called ‘Al Mazrah’, alongside a new gulag, new features, new vehicles, and a new mode called DMZ. The new operators dropping in the game are the football players Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, and Neymar Jr. In addition to the sports stars, you can also play as the new operators, Zeus, Klaus, and Gaz, who is in the campaign. That’s not all, you also will be getting new guns, new bundles, and a new battle system.

Doom Eternal composer Mick Gordon reveals production hell 1s212w

The most infuriating story in the gaming world today is regarding Mick Gordan and the development of Doom Eternal. The fact that there were struggles behind the scenes regarding the soundtrack of Doom Eternal has been well documented with the producer of Doom Eternal using a Reddit post to delve into the problems behind the game’s soundtrack. This came after fans noticed that there were problems with Mick Gordon’s tracks and that Mick Gordon had claimed the problems came from ID Software’s audio team.

The Reddit post was put up in 2020, and today Mick Gordon shared his side of the story, which you can see in the tweet above, and read more about here. Essentially the award-winning composer behind Doom Eternal and its predecessor Doom (2016), has claimed that while he was producing the tracks for the game he was being mistreated, underpaid, or worked for significant periods without any pay, and that they used tracks in the game and in the soundtrack that ID Software did not pay for. After months of attempting to negotiate, Gordon felt it was time to clear his name and tell his side of the story, so it is worth reading his full of the events, which you can read above.

25-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz isn’t the actress that one would imagine starring in a video game. Beginning as a child actor with roles in The Amityville Horror (2005), and the drama series Desperate Housewives (2006–07), Moretz had her breakthrough performance in Kick-Ass (2010). From there, she made a name for herself in Hugo (2011), Dark Shadows (2012) and reprised her role in the Kick-Ass sequel, Kick-Ass 2 (2013). Right on schedule, Sony has announced its monthly catalog of content for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Right in time for the spooky season, there’s plenty to indulge in while feasting on some Halloween candy.

Headlining the new additions is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the definitive edition, which was previously remastered for PS4 and PS5. Additionally, the Dragon Quest series adds to its roster with several entries. There are even more treats in store for Assassin’s Creed fans as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, India and Russia are added to the mix. Right on the heels of Supermassive Games’ The Quarry, horror game The Medium promises an eventful Halloween, while anime fans can rejoice as Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker and Hohokum arrive on PS Plus.

If there’s one thing the internet loves, it’s cats. Combine that with video games, and you’ve got a certified crowd pleaser. Stray is taking the internet by storm, with it perhaps the only game out there that lets you play as cat.

Developed by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna (hehehe, purr) Interactive, Stray has been in the works since 2015 and has finally launched after several delays. The launch of the PlayStation console exclusive has seen a myriad of memes and love online, quickly finding its way to the hearts of internet inhabitants.

Cat memes have swept through Twitter, and frankly you love to see it. Prowling across a neo-cyberpunk dystopia, the fluffy feline is getting plenty of attention. That attention extends to real cats, with many sharing videos of their cats going nuts over their on-screen counterpart.

Hell, there’s already an entire dedicated to cats watching Stray being played. Enjoy some of these furry friends.

Particular praise has gone to some of the more wacky things you can do in the game. In true cat fashion, you’re able to knock things over, and there’s even a trophy for meowing 100 times.

Then there’s the absolutely cursed content posted. No, please don’t remind me of 2019’s Cats. I’ve suffered through enough. Annapurna even called out the horrendous crossover.

You may need to get more into the extensive lore of Stray, and this tweet has you covered for that. Quality publishing, I’m told by my cat.

You can now play Stray by becoming a PlayStation Plus Extra or subscriber, or by purchasing the game on Steam. It’s gotten many plaudits, with it described as the best cyberpunk game of recent memory by We Got This Covered.

Today PlayStation announced the titles that will be available for Plus subscribers in April and there is plenty of variety to try.

As per the announcement, next month’s games include Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, and Slay the Spire. Spongebob and Slay the Spire are both available for PS4 while Hood can be played on both PS4 and PS5. These games will be available in early April and can be ed with a subscription until May 2.

Of all the games, Hood is the best multiplayer experience up for grabs next month. The game is played online where players group up into teams with a variety of modes and attempt to perform heists targeting the wealthy.

Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated offers something for the younger gamers, or someone looking for casual, lighthearted fun. This remake brings the classic platforming antics into a new realm with better graphics, gameplay, and more reasons to play than ever before. If you’re looking to play along with a friend, this game is also a great co-op experience.

Finally, Slay the Spire is a must-play game for any PlayStation Plus subscriber. The title mixes elements from card games with roguelike gameplay leading to a compelling playstyle that drives the narrative.

These games will be available from April 5 but in the meantime make sure to take advantage of the other games that can be ed right now, namely ARK: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing, and Ghostrunner.

As January comes to a close, Sony has shared with fans its lineup of PlayStation Plus free games for February. As usual, the selection includes two PS4 titles and a single PS5 game. In February, you‘ve got a ton of name value to check out for your subscription.

Headlining the month’s freebies is the latest entry into EA’s MMA game series, UFC 4. Along with this, you can also check out the Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure. Finally, PS5 s will get the chance to play Planet Coaster.

For those who aren’t familiar with the series, UFC 4 is one of EA’s running sports game series. This entry offers the most complete roster of fighters and the most up-to-date in-game fighting mechanics both in the striking and grappling departments.

If you’re a Borderlands fan who hasn’t tried out Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, you need to do so in February. This game is a one-shot that packs a ton of fast-paced run and gun action. The game boasts the signature Borderlands-style visuals that bring today this wacky world on screen.

Planet Coaster is the perfect game for anyone who is looking for some casual action on the PS5. This title sets players with the task of constructing and managing a coaster park. Players can let their imaginations run free and see how crazy these coasters can get.

All three of these games will be made available for PlayStation Plus subscribers on Feb. 1.

It’s that time of the month again. After some accurate leaks, the PlayStation Plus games for next month have been announced.

The games coming to PlayStation Plus s in the new year are Deep Rock Galactic on PS4 and PS5, Dirt 5 on PS4 and PS5, and Persona 5 Strikers on PS4. All are available to starting January 4 until February 1. Let’s take a closer look at these incredible games on offer.

Deep Rock Galactic – PS4, PS5 4s39k

Deep Rock Galactic is a procedurally-generated co-op shooter developed by Ghost Ship Games. Dig, explore and fight in cavernous structures while accruing resources and surviving with your friends. The surprising thing about this game in this month’s lineup is that the game is not out on PlayStation yet. This wouldn’t be the first time PlayStation has put a new release on their PlayStation Plus lineup having done it more than once in 2021. 

Dirt 5 – PS4, PS5 464c2f

A classic launch lineup PS5 game, developed by Codemasters, Dirt 5 is mainly an off-road racer, racing on dirt tracks and ice roads with over 50 different cars and over 75 different tracks. Featuring a story mode with Nolan North and Troy Baker as your rival and mentors, the game is a solid choice if you want a racing game on your PlayStation 5.  

Persona 5 Strikers – PS4 only 3kx3f

Persona 5 Strikers, developed by Omega Force and P-Studio, is a crossover between Dynasty Warriors and Persona 5. Set a year and a half after the events of Persona 5, Persona 5 Strikers is an action role-playing game where you play as Joker and take control of personas as you fight your way through Japan.

Sony has revealed which games subscribers to PlayStation Plus will receive this month and it is quite the variety. The rumors turned out to be true.

Earlier today the company’s PlayStation Twitter revealed s can pick up GodFall: Challenger Edition, Lego DC Super-Villains, and Mortal Shell. Each is an action game with a third-person perspective which allows players to take on figures with some morally questionable perspectives on the worlds they inhabit and are available from Dec. 7 to Jan. 3.

“December’s lineup sees you battling through bright fantasy universes and grim worlds shattered by zealous foes,” a post about the releases on the PlayStation blog reads. “It asks you to play the hero or see yourself become the villain.”

While these games are older, there is a first here in that Lego games had previously been the domain of Microsoft’s rival Xbox Games with Gold program. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was given out there just last month and PlayStation has advised s last month’s offerings of Knockout City, First Class Trouble, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning can still be added to a games library for those who are interested but only until this Monday.
