Queen Elizabeth II lost her usual calm temper after Harry and Meghan lied about her to the press.]]>
<![CDATA[

In June 2021, a dispute over a royal baby’s name sparked one of the most contentious moments between Queen Elizabeth II and her grandson, Prince Harry, leading to unprecedented legal threats and palace tensions. 5w5l22

By 2021, the relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the British royal family had been increasingly strained since their departure from royal duties in 2020. However, the announcement of their daughter’s name took things to a whole new level, provoking an extraordinary reaction from the customarily composed Queen Elizabeth, as revealed in Robert Hardman’s new biography Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story.

Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Lilibet, is named after Queen Elizabeth’s intimate childhood nickname, originating from her early inability to pronounce her own name. It was only used by a handful of people closest to the Queen: her parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, her sister Princess Margaret, her husband Prince Philip, and a few close friends. The private nature of this nickname made its use particularly meaningful within royal circles. Yet, Harry and Meghan decided to turn the name into a very public affair, reportedly without proper consent.

When Harry and Meghan announced their daughter’s name as Lilibet Diana, their spokesperson made a definitive statement

The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called. During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been ive, they would not have used the name.

However, according to Hardman’s book, this assertion provoked an unprecedented reaction. A palace staff member “privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been ‘as angry as I’d ever seen her’ in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter ‘Lilibet,’ the Queen’s childhood nickname.” This reveal indicates that Harry and Meghan did not have the Queen’s blessing, after all, and lied publicly about it for the whole world to hear.

The situation escalated when the BBC reported, citing palace sources, that the Queen had not been consulted ing the name. The Sussexes responded aggressively, as Hardman writes: “The couple subsequently fired off warnings of legal action against anyone who dared to suggest otherwise, as the BBC had done. However, when the Sussexes tried to co-opt the Palace into propping up their version of events, they were rebuffed.”

Some silences can be deafening. The Palace’s position underlined how Harry and Meghan’s version of the story did not represent the whole truth. It’s no wonder that “those noisy threats of legal action duly evaporated. The libel actions against the BBC never materialized.”

While the Palace maintains that King Charles will “always” leave the door open for his youngest son, the firm stance taken during the Lilibet naming controversy signaled a new approach to managing royal communications, moving away from the traditional “never complain, never explain” policy that had guided the institution for generations. Unsurprisingly, King Charles grew apart from Prince Harry as years went by, to the point where a reconciliation now seems quite unlikely. As for Lilibet, she is the living proof of Harry and Meghan’s defiance of Royal tradition.

Even before his marriage Prince Harry struggled with the weight of tradition.]]>
<![CDATA[

Prince Harry, known for his rebellious streak, was in an unexpected situation when he decided to propose to Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex had to ask Queen Elizabeth II‘s permission before popping the question, which didn’t go as expected.

Royal protocol dictates that the first six individuals in the line of succession must obtain the reigning monarch’s approval before getting engaged. As the sixth in line at the time, Harry was obligated to seek his grandmother’s blessing before he could present Meghan with a ring. This tradition, rooted in centuries of royal history, presented a unique challenge for the modern prince.

In his controversial memoir, Spare, Harry recounts the nerve-wracking experience of approaching his grandmother during a family shooting trip at Sandringham. The prince, hoping to catch the Queen in good spirits after the hunt, carefully planned his moment to broach the subject of marriage. When Harry finally managed to get a private audience with the Queen, he expressed his love for Meghan and his desire to marry her. However, this interaction led to a moment of royal confusion.

Harry started the problematic conversation by stating, “I’ve been told that I have to ask your permission before I can propose.” The Queen’s response was unexpected and puzzling. She simply replied, “You have to">hard-to-navigate social dynamic.

After her death the U.K. went into a period of mourning.]]>
<![CDATA[

Earlier this month, Queen Elizabeth II ed away after more than 70 years as head of the Royal Family. People mourned in the wake of the moment, several celebrities weighed in, and now the official cause of the former monarch’s ing has been released.

Per Deadline Hollywood, the National Records of Scotland has released a copy of Elizabeth’s death certificate. She died at 3:10pm on Sept. 8 in Scotland, with the cause of her ing simply listed as old age. No other factors were cited and after her death, the U.K. went into a period of mourning, which ended when she was interned on Sept. 19 in London at a Westminster Abbey funeral.

Elizabeth ruled for 70 years and was the country’s longest-serving monarch in history. Her son Charles succeeded her and in the wake of her death, a number of pop culture pieces related to the monarchy took time to let her be buried and assess their futures. Netflix’s The Crown was one and the next season is set to chronicle the family’s life in the early to mid-1990s with Diana appearing, too. In her life, Elizabeth appeared on the currency of more than 30 countries, was the subject of a number of documentaries, and saw a number of actresses play her in various fictional portrayals, including Helen Mirren in The Queen and most recently with Stella Gonet taking on the role in the 2021 release of the Spencer movie.

As someone who was a part of public life for decades in her home nation and around the world, the odds are others will step into her shoes in other works in the future as well.

<![CDATA[

As the mourning of Queen Elizabeth II continues, the official date of her funeral has been announced as her body finally arrived in London. However, people noticed that the date is placed on a really odd date that not going to lie, it is arrr-guably funny in hindsight.

The Queen’s funeral is scheduled to be on Sept. 19. And in case you didn’t know, that is the same date as ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’. How odd that as the world mourns for an iconic royal figure, her funeral is also the same day when pirate puns will roam the seven seas. But maybe it’s what the world needs considering that the UK is currently on pause due to this tragedy.

People noticed this and they look forward to seeing how the mon-arr-ch will be treated during the event.

Others stated that they were arghh-uably overwhelmed with this information as the timing is really funny considering that this is the only time pirate puns are accepted. Meanwhile, others hope for an ‘interesting’ funeral service.

Queen Elizabeth II ed away on Sept. 8 in her estate in Balmoral. Since then, the Queen’s body safely made its way back to London as the Royal family gathered to pay respects to their lost relative. The UK has entered into a state of mourning for 10 days as radio stations are now required to play somber and sad music, as well as images of the queen appearing on almost every screen.

The Queen’s funeral will take place at Westminister Abbey on Sept. 19 at 11:00 AM BST. The public will have four days before the official event to view the body in Westminster Hall before it makes its way to Wellington Arch.

Well it's better than King Charles III... ]]>
<![CDATA[

One of the burning questions following the ing of Queen Elizabeth II is whether or not Canada will replace its current currency, which currently features the Queen’s face. Well, maybe not a burning question, but like, a question! Though Canada gained independence in 1931, the two nations still share a sovereign, who is now King Charles III.

But because, let’s face it, nobody in Canada really seems to want King Charles’ face adorning their money, a viral Twitter thread asks who might replace the new King if Canada opted not to put Charles on the coins. But Patton Oswalt and Ryan Reynolds both seem to think John Candy, a true king if there ever was one, might make a good replacement.

“If Canada opted not to put Charles on the coins, what would work instead">according to Global News, the Royal Canadian Mint has stated that it will be up to the government of Canada to decide whether to change the image on the heads-side of coins.

“The Mint must await the Government’s direction on a new obverse design when a change in Monarch occurs, but we will work closely with the appropriate authorities when this change is requested,” the Crown corporation said it a statement.

Pete Davidson can rest easy for ... well, exactly one day, evidently. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Kanye West recently resumed his shenanigans on Instagram, seemingly empowered by his ex Kim Kardashian ending her months-long relationship with Pete Davidson, for some reason, even though he basically got what he wanted. (Although he still doesn’t have Kim back, and likely never will.)

But that was the old Kayne because early Friday morning, the rapper announced that he was taking a break from grudges, and the inspiration was the ing of Queen Elizabeth II, of all things, who died from natural causes at the age of 96 on Thursday.

“Life is precious. Releasing all grudges today. Leaning into the light,” Ye all-caps announced in an Instagram grid post, along with two slides featuring photos of Elizabeth II as a young woman. She was quite the hottie back in the day, we suppose! Paul McCartney thought so anyway — we wonder how she would have looked in a pair of Yeezy high heel boots?

https://www.instagram.com/p/CiRvh0VufLS/

The irony was too much for Irish Examiner columnist Séamas O’Reilly, who tweeted screenshots — which will come in handy when West eventually finds himself in a less charitable mood and deletes the post.

“If anyone had ‘Kanye Ending All His Beefs In Tribute To Queen Elizabeth II’ on their bingo card, please make your way to the stage,” O’Reilly quipped.

Journalist Alessandra Bocchi likewise attributed the “immeasurable” power of the queen for West to cease his feuds for even one day.

But speaking of deleting posts, West had previously tweeted a tribute of the Queen wearing Yeezy shades and named both Davidson and Kid Cudi, who he’s also been beefing with, but apparently thought better of it.

Just another day in the dumbest possible timeline, and we’re all living in it!

The English born talk show host opened 'The Late Late Show' on Tuesday with a gracious speech about the Queen.]]>
<![CDATA[

With the news of the ing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, James Corden chose to do a cold open for the The Late Late Show to give a short speech in tribute to Her Majesty.

Corden, who was born and raised in England, just began his eighth and final year as host of The Late Late Show in the United States, which airs on CBS and has become hugely popular for many reasons, not least of which is one of Corden’s most loved recurring segments called Carpool Karaoke.

During his speech, Corden praised the Queen, and clearly holds reverence for her reign.

The talk show host said, “I, like the rest of the world, am so sad tonight but also so thankful and grateful to the Queen for the most incredible service and leadership she has shown during all of our lifetimes.”

He later added, “She lived a life dedicated to service, dedicated to bettering the lives of others.”

Lastly, in regards to her time on the throne, he said, “For 70 years, she never wavered. She was never political. She didn’t need us to hear her opinions. She never gave an interview. She never posted on social media. It was never, for her, about her own PR.”

All corners of the world have been paying tribute to the Queen since the news of her death first broke, and we can expect the well-wishes to carry on right through the weekend as everyone comes to with one of the longest-reigning monarchs in recorded history ing away.

People roast Hamilton and Les Misérables for mourning the queen 6z2t5c https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/people-roast-hamilton-and-les-miserables-for-mourning-the-queen/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/people-roast-hamilton-and-les-miserables-for-mourning-the-queen/#respond <![CDATA[Erielle Sudario]]> Fri, 09 Sep 2022 04:28:40 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[hamilton]]> <![CDATA[Les Miserables]]> <![CDATA[Queen Elizabeth]]> <![CDATA[Queen Elizabeth II]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1293993 <![CDATA[
Remind me again what both these musicals were about?]]>
<![CDATA[

As the world mourns after news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death broke, some used this tragic event to criticize the royal family for a variety of reasons, one of them being their family’s history as colonizers which led to countries like America trying to free themselves from the crown’s rule, and others who are still unable to break free from the commonwealth.

So when both Hamilton and Les Misérables, two popular musicals known for their stories of rebelling against the monarchy, sent condolences to the Royal Family, these people wondered if anyone in those productions really paid attention to what their shows were about.

This started when both the Hamilton and Les Misérables Twitter pages released official statements, saying that everyone on their team was ‘deeply saddened’ by the news. They also sent their sincere condolences to the Royal Family as they mourn their loss.

However, people on both Twitter and Tumblr began to mock the two musicals for “not understanding what their shows were about”, so much so that Les Misérables ended up deleting their statement. People began to wonder if what they said was a joke or if they were really serious.

https://twitter.com/JUNlPER/status/1567955407846383625?s=20&t=yRrvq89-lAbXuFlEdMRBgQ

For those who still haven’t watched these two musicals, both focus on the themes of fighting for independence against the monarchy. Hamilton told the story of the American Revolution during the first half of its show. Meanwhile, Les Misérables was set during the time of the French Revolution. Obviously, people wondered if anyone in their teams was aware of this, feeling that it’s “pretty ironic” that they share their “condolences to the Royal Family”.

https://twitter.com/niais/status/1568007524221358083?s=20&t=yRrvq89-lAbXuFlEdMRBgQ

Some people suggested that they didn’t have to say anything as according to them, no one will wonder how “this musical is feeling” about the situation. However, since these were posted on the musical’s West End s and not the official ones, you could say that they’re kind of required to do so.

Not everyone mourned when the news of the Queen’s death broke. Fans pointed out that the former Doctor Who star, Christopher Eccleston is probably going to have a field day on social media due to his views about the monarchy. But at the same time, people do care about the Queen and will mourn her regardless.

Queen Elizabeth II ed away on Sept. 8, 2022, at 4.30 PM BST. May she rest in peace.

Networks across the globe, especially in America, are now making their way to the UK to report on the Queen’s ing as news of Queen Elizabeth‘s death spreads. Before her death, the BBC canceled its usual programming, and news anchors wore black and dark-toned outfits as protocol in case something happened.

While America doesn’t have the exact protocol as the BBC, various networks around the country are already on the move. Deadline reports that multiple broadcasters have announced their royal coverage starting tonight. CNN announced that it will broadcast a special tribute for Queen Elizabeth titled A Queen for the Ages: Elizabeth II.

ABC has also announced a two-hour special for the late Queen of England titled Queen Elizabeth II: A Royal Life. The network also plans to devote its primetime hours to her majesty starting at 8 PM ET with a tribute anchored by George Stephanopoulos and other ABC journalists.

Meanwhile, journalists for CBS, Today, and Good Morning America will be sending journalists to London to report on the Queen’s funeral. Other news outlets such as Fox News and CNN have focused their news reporting on Elizabeth’s ing, while BBC World followed BBC’s footsteps and wore dark-colored outfits.

Queen Elizabeth ed away in her Balmoral estate in Scotland at 4.30 PM BST after there were earlier reports of concerns about the Queen’s health. Since then, the Royal family made their way to Scotland for the Queen’s final moments. Since then, King Charles has ascended to the throne, and both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children received their royal titles.

Official dates for the Queen’s funeral and King Charles’ coronation have not yet been announced.

Not everyone is mourning Queen Elizabeth II's ing... ]]>
<![CDATA[

The world is mourning the ing of Queen Elizabeth II, the oldest and longest-ruling head of the British monarchy, who ascended the throne in 1952 at just 25 years old, and held it until her death at the age of 96. Or should we say, much, but not all, of the world is mourning — as the British Empire does evoke painful memories for those whose ancestors have been on the receiving end of various atrocities it has committed throughout the centuries.

Now, an online discourse is heating up over whether it’s appropriate to take pleasure in the death of the Queen.

On Thursday morning, when news of Elizabeth II’s ailing health was first reported, Dr. Uju Anya, Carnegie Mellon University professor and researcher in applied linguistics, tweeted her feelings on the matter.

“I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying,” Anya wrote. “May her pain be excruciating.” Twitter eventually removed the tweet on Thursday afternoon for violating its rules, though which rules it violated are unclear.

Anya explained her disdain for the British as a colonial power in a series of followup tweets that Twitter opted not to remove.

“If anyone expects me to express anything but disdain for the monarch who supervised a government that sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family and the consequences of which those alive today are still trying to overcome, you can keep wishing upon a star,” she wrote.

“That wretched woman and her bloodthirsty throne have f*cked generations of my ancestors on both sides of the family, and she supervised a government that sponsored the genocide my parents and siblings survived,” Anya added. “May she die in agony.”

https://twitter.com/UjuAnya/status/1567865603876085760

Though Anya does not specify which genocide she’s referring to — the British empire has committed its fair share, of course — one would have to imagine that she’s pointing to the Mau Mau Rebellion, which took place in what was then known as British Kenya from 1952 to 1960. During the eight-year conflict, hundreds of thousands of the Kikuyu people were displaced, tortured, raped, and murdered.

A welfare group for former of the Mau Mau movement later sued the British government in 2002 on behalf of survivors, and a settlement was eventually reached, though the United Kingdom continues to deny liability to this day.

Although Elizabeth II’s personal role in the conflict was likely negligible at best, two things can be true simultaneously, in that the British monarchy remains a source of pain for those involved in the uprising, and their descendants.

Still, many people jumped into Anya’s mentions to lecture her on propriety, and there being “a time and a place” — many of whom were quickly rewarded with spicy clapbacks.

https://twitter.com/UjuAnya/status/1567868421156605957

Anya also retweeted several other likeminded individuals who suggested, albeit more diplomatically, as to not anger Twitter, that silencing colonized people is never a good look, regardless of who died.

https://twitter.com/Ebonyteach/status/1567894553474076677

Not to delegitimize anyone’s feelings on either side of the debate, but one thing we can probably all agree on is that sometimes it’s good to step away from Twitter and take a deep breath. This is one of those such days!

For most careers, after spending 70 years on the job one receives a gold watch, a handshake, and a request you have your things out of your desk by Monday so the 24 year-old intern can take it. But being Queen of England is a lifetime appointment, and so today Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, a time for the country to celebrate and take pride in 70 years of the same face staring back at them from their money.

Elizabeth survived the Nazi attacks of World War II and the Punk Rock attacks of the 1970s, sweeping worldwide pandemics of COVID-19 and Beatlemania, and one guy who broke into Buckingham Palace in 1982 and accidentally woke her up in bed. But she barely survived an attack of the Cutes, as her four year-old great grandson, Prince Louis of Cambridge, became an instant meme after a low-flying salute from the Royal Air Force was too noisy and he covered his ears to block the sound.

Something about this image struck a chord with people on Twitter. Probably because the entire world seems to be a constant onrush of static noise in the form of social media chatter, political division, and pop culture bloggers who have to be snarky about every damn little thing that crosses their “Assignment” queue. So Twitter folk instantly took to the idea of photoshopping the Little Prince into vaguely humorous graphics:

“Is four years old too young to become the butt of a joke by a worldwide network of bored temps?” is a question that never even struck the social media hivemend, surprisingly. Instead, it was easier to photoshop Louis into a movie poster:

And this guy just decided to by wit and skill and really strike at the heart of what he imagines would bother a bored four year-old forced to stand for hours at a noisy public event: the intricate issues of royal lineage and succession.

Twitter being Twitter, this person randomly attacked Queen Elizabeth’s outfit for being vaguely similar in color and style to a costume they found on Google:

Let’s cleanse the palate with a heartwarming picture of Louis talking to his delighted Great Gram:

Netflix's The Crown season 6 is in search of actors to portray Prince William and Harry in their teenage years.]]>
<![CDATA[

The Crown is looking to cast its teenage Prince William and Harry for season 6 of the highly awarded Netflix series, and plan on filming this summer.

As reported by Variety, a casting call was put out by The Crown casting associate Kate Bone on Twitter in search of two actors whose resemblance to the royal brothers would appear to take precedence over acting experience. The hopefuls are invited to submit a video application within the next two months for their chance to land the coveted roles.

The new cast for season 5 will finish out the series in season 6, following a formula whereby every two seasons, key roles change casting in order to mark a new era. Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) will portray Queen Elizabeth, with Jonathan Price (The Two Popes) as Prince Philip, Dominic West (Colette) as Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) will be Princess Diana herself.

As with every era of The Crown, the Prime Minister will be a key role, and this time it’s Johnny Lee Miller (Elementary) as Johnathan Majors. He follows in the footsteps of previous Prime Ministers; Sir Winston Churchill, played by Johnathan Lithgow, and Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson. Both Lithgow and Anderson won Emmy Awards for their portrayals.

The Crown season 5 will take viewers into the 1990s, a particularly strenuous time for the royal family and the iconic Princess Diana of Wales. Drama between the royal family and Diana played out in front of the world until her tragic ing in 1997. When these events will take place between seasons 5 and 6 are not yet known, but the age range of Diana’s sons for the final season gives the audience some idea of the timeframe.

The Crown season 5 will stream on Netflix Nov., 2022.
