Despite headlining one of the most popular and successful franchises in the history of cinema, there’s always been a sneaking suspicion that Vin Diesel has always favored Riddick over Fast & Furious.

Whereas Dominic Toretto has yielded billions upon billions of box office dollars, the struggle to expand the universe that originally began back in 2000 with Pitch Black has proven a tougher nut to crack, but Diesel has always stuck with the intergalactic convict through thick and thin.

Even though the series has spanned three movies, two video games, an animated spinoff, and countless other multimedia tie-ins, it was beginning to grow a little tiresome hearing the gravel-throated action hero repeatedly tout that a fourth feature-length installment was on the way without actually having anything to show for it.

That’s finally changed, though, with the actor and producer officially re-teaming with writer and director David Twohy for Riddick: Furya, which sees the title hero return to his homeworld at long last. Having purchased the rights to the character a while back, Diesel was never going to give up the ghost, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be some people shocked that it’s actually happening for real this time.

Then again, with The Fast Saga drawing to a close when the 11th chapter eventually releases – as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 potentially marking the end of his association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the noted tank top enthusiast needs another established property to fall back on, and The Last Witch Hunter certainly wouldn’t cut it.

Vin Diesel marks 10 years of teasing the same non-existent sequel by offering another vague update https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/vin-diesel-marks-10-years-of-teasing-the-same-non-existent-sequel-by-offering-another-vague-update/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/vin-diesel-marks-10-years-of-teasing-the-same-non-existent-sequel-by-offering-another-vague-update/#respond Tue, 24 Jan 2023 09:24:37 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1405345 We'll believe it's happening when cameras start rolling.]]>

This year marks 10 years since the release of Riddick, which brought the cult classic sci-fi franchise back from the brink following its disastrous initial sequel that tried and failed to reinvent the property as a sweeping space opera – but Vin Diesel is still telling us that the fourth installment is on the way without having anything to show for it.

In the actor and producer’s defense, he owns the rights to the character and can do whatever the hell he wants, but we’d be lying if we said it hasn’t gotten boring seeing him constantly tease that Riddick: Furya is coming down the pipeline without actually having provided any tangible evidence cameras will be rolling at any point in the near future.

He’s at it again, though, with the patriarch of the Fast & Furious family taking to Instagram to reveal more concept art from his long-gestating return as the cosmic convict, even if we’ve been here many times before.

In the decade since he last donned the googles, Diesel has played Dominic Toretto three times (with a fourth on the way when Fast X lands in May), he’s voiced Groot in six Marvel Cinematic Universe projects and Ralph Breaks the Internet, while also finding the time to try and fail to get The Last Witch Hunter and Bloodshot off the ground as viable vehicles, so it’s not as if he’s been standing idly by twiddling his thumbs.

It was in January 2014 the gravel-throated action hero first announced Riddick was getting a fourth film, and yet here we are nine years on and in the exact same position. “Very exciting” isn’t the groundbreaking development fans were hoping for, but it was an entirely expected nothingburger.

Vin Diesel once more hints that ‘Riddick 4’ is a thing that’s happening https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/vin-diesel-once-more-hints-that-riddick-4-is-a-thing-thats-happening/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/vin-diesel-once-more-hints-that-riddick-4-is-a-thing-thats-happening/#respond Mon, 16 May 2022 07:19:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1212176 At this stage, we'll believe it when we see it.]]>

Vin Diesel might be in the midst of shooting a blockbuster sequel featuring one of his most famous characters, but that doesn’t mean he won’t continue to tease another one.

It’s almost become a running gag at this point that the actor regularly hints at some major Riddick 4 news on the horizon, and yet the project hasn’t even been given an official green light for production as far as we know.

Effectively, we’re in the exact same position we’ve been in for close to a decade, with next year marking the 10th anniversary of the intergalactic convict’s last feature-length outing. During that time, Diesel has claimed on numerous occasions that the fourth chapter is closer than we think, without providing any tangible evidence to it.

That’s basically the gist of the chrome-domed action icon’s latest Instagram post, which reveals a new set of storyboards sent over by creator, writer, and director David Twohy.

the chronicles of riddick

Having already been the subject of three movies, two video games, and several animated projects, it’s clear that Diesel isn’t ready to give up on the role over two decades after it set the stage for his rise to mainstream prominence. However, this isn’t the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth time we’ve been teased with Riddick 4, and it won’t be the last, either.

One of these days, the actor and producer is going to have to provide something concrete to back up his bluster, but don’t be surprised if the cosmic action thriller doesn’t happen until after Fast & Furious 11 wraps, if it even comes together at all.

Vin Diesel is nothing if not determined to keep the Riddick franchise alive by any means necessary, even if we’ve only managed to get three feature films out of the equation in the space of 21 years. That’s not a great return, but another outing for the intergalactic convict is always lingering at the back of his mind.

One of the tank top enthusiast’s favored habits is to continually talk up new projects, before failing to mention them again for the longest time. We saw it twice last year when he teased a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter and major Bloodshot news, and yet we’re still waiting to hear the latest updates.

Riddick 4 is in a very similar boat; Diesel said the script was complete in July 2019, and three months later he revealed shooting would begin the following year. When that didn’t happen, he claimed in May 2020 the screenplay was almost ready, and then didn’t offer anything else for a full year until dropping a tease this past June.

As you can see below, the action star is back at it again, revealing via Instagram that Riddick 4 is apparently much closer than we think.

Riddick

It’s been eight years since the last installment, and in that time the leading man has blown plenty of hot air without actually presenting anything tangible. Maybe this is the time Riddick 4 finally comes together, because Diesel will need another franchise to keep him busy once his Fast & Furious tenure draws to a close.

You’ve got to ire Vin Diesel’s determination to turn everything he touches into a multi-film series designed to run for as long as humanly possible, even if it doesn’t always work out that way. Fast & Furious 9 only hit domestic theaters last Friday, but the action star is already looking forward and hyping up the fourth installment in the Riddick franchise. Diesel has been playing intergalactic convict Richard B. Riddick longer than he’s been throwing on the signature white tank top of Dominic Toretto, but the expanded Pitch Black universe has a much more checkered history. It was the wrong move to position sequel The Chronicles of Riddick as a big budget space opera, and the most notable thing about the box office bomb was the fact the leading man taught Judi Dench how to play Dungeons & Dragons during their downtime on set. Almost a decade later, Riddick stripped back the concept and fared much better from a critical and commercial perspective, but we’ve spent the last eight years hearing Diesel intermittently talk up Furya, even if it hasn’t managed to gain much traction. In a new interview, though, the 53 year-old said the script was finished, and he’s even looking to shoot in Australia with returning director David Twohy.

“David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It’s just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we’re shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome.”

Riddick Between two more Fast & Furious movies, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a potential fourth xXx, talk of follow ups to The Last Witch Hunter and Bloodshot in addition to Riddick: Furya, Diesel’s desire to headline as many franchises as possible is set to continue for at least a little while longer, and that’s without even mentioning his top secret role in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels that he’s still not allowed to talk about.

Based on his filmography over the last two decades, Vin Diesel would apparently be more than happy if his entire career consisted of nothing but franchises. Since the year 2000, the action star has appeared in 24 movies, and only eight of them have been in roles that weren’t either Dominic Toretto, Xander Cage, Groot or Richard B. Riddick. Out of those eight, The Pacifier was once the subject of sequel talks, The Last Witch Hunter is currently having a follow-up written and both Babylon A.D. and Bloodshot were clearly designed with franchise potential in mind before they bombed at the box office. That’s just four movies in 20 years that were made without the studio planning for further installments. Out of all of his recurring characters, though, you get the sneaking suspicion that Diesel loves Riddick the most. He persevered with the series after the big budget space opera sequel flopped, and finally got the third outing made nine years later. And ever since the goggles-wearing convict was last seen in 2013, the 53 year-old has frequently reiterated his desire to get Riddick: Furya off the ground. Riddick While it remains to be seen when we’ll actually lay eyes on the next installment, insider Daniel Richtman is now claiming that Karl Urban is being eyed to board the project, after he played the villain in The Chronicles of Riddick and returned for a brief cameo in the third movie. The last we saw of Urban’s Vaako, he was kneeling before the title hero as his new leader, which presents a straightforward way to reintroduce him into the story of the next one as either an ally or enemy, depending on what direction Diesel and writer/director David Twohy decide to take the narrative in as they hammer out the next Riddick script. But tell us, would you like to see the Dredd actor return to the sci-fi franchise? As always, let us know down below.

The fourth entry in the Vin Diesel-starring Riddick series has been firmly mired in development hell for a while, despite reports emerging in the last year that Riddick 4: Furya would shoot in 2020. Indeed, back in May, it appeared that a script was close to completion, although it’s likely that the general impact of COVID-19 derailed any initial plans of making the movie happen. Things may be looking up for Riddick fans, though, as there’s talk today that the sequel is moving forward. According to insider Daniel Richtman, what we can assume is still going to be Riddick 4: Furya will soon enter production, but further details are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Universal has been the main studio behind the franchise, though, so we’d expect them to be involved in some capacity, if only to keep one of their biggest Fast & Furious asset happy. Meanwhile, Richtman also adds that Karl Urban may be brought back to reprise his role from 2013’s Riddick.

“The Riddick sequel now moving forward, they want Karl Urban back as villain,” says the tipster

Riddick For those that haven’t had a chance to catch up with the sci-fi saga, it began with 2000’s relatively self-contained Pitch Black, before going for a more epic scale with 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick. We then had the aforementioned 2013 movie, and a lot of tie-in media, showing that there’s still much love out there for the film and the extended universe. As the title suggests, Riddick 4: Furya will return to the lead character’s home planet, though plot details are still being kept under wraps at this time. For now, then, we’ll wait until some firmer confirmation comes for a project that’s been on the verge of being made for several years, but it’s good to know that momentum is starting to build with this one regardless. Tell us, though, what do you think of the chances of seeing Riddick 4: Furya become a reality? As always, let us know in the comments section down below.

Vin Diesel is no stranger to franchises, having played prominent roles in the Fast & Furious series, the XXX movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but no matter how closely he’ll always be linked to Dominic Toretto, you always get the feeling that Richard B. Riddick might just be the favorite among his own characters. The tank-top enthusiast first played the intergalactic convict 20 years ago, and since then he’s gone on to slip back into the goggles for two feature-length sequels, two video games and an animated spinoff. While averaging a new installment once every decade isn’t a great return for a series featuring one of the world’s biggest movie stars, Diesel regularly teases his latest team-up with writer/director David Twohy, which is still currently going by the working title Riddick 4: Furya. In a recent, and quite frankly a little bizarre Instagram post, the actor gave some insight into how he’s coping with self-isolation, while also claiming that the script for Riddick’s fourth outing will be delivered to him next week. See for yourself below:

Vin-Diesel-Riddick The 52 year-old also claimed that the script was almost done last summer, although it remains unclear if that was an early draft, or if it just didn’t happen. While Diesel always has the universally-popular Fast & Furious movies to occupy his time in the interim, Twohy doesn’t have a single credit to his name since 2013’s Riddick, and could very well be itching to get back behind the camera. The franchise doesn’t exactly do blockbuster business, having so far brought in $267 million at the box office on combined production costs of $128 million, but there’s definitely an audience for these movies, and given Diesel’s close association with Universal over the years, the studio would probably be more willing to hand over the cash to make Riddick 4: Furya in order to keep one of their biggest names happy than many of their rivals would.

The Vin Diesel-starring Riddick 4: Furya is gathering momentum, with shooting on the latest entry in the franchise set to begin in 2020. The film will take Riddick back to his home planet of Furya, with David Twohy returning to direct after helming all three movies in the series to date. And following on from the news that Karl Urban may be showing up in the pic, our sources – the same ones who told us that an Aladdin sequel and a Green Lantern TV series are in the works, which we now know to be true – have informed us that Katee Sackhoff is also expected to the cast for Riddick’s comeback. Since 2000’s sleeper hit Pitch Black, the Riddick series has grown in scale and ambition, with 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick placing Vin Diesel’s antihero at the center of the action. Although not a hit on its initial release, it built an audience on DVD, and Riddick arrived in 2013 as a return to the more focused plotting of Pitch Black. By this time, Vin Diesel had assumed much of the responsibility for the franchise, fitting in development around his role in the Fast and Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Of course, Sackhoff appeared in Riddick as Dahl, a bounty hunter and sniper in the Boss Johns Mercs. The combative Dahl shared many of the traits of Sackhoff’s Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, albeit with some controversy over a partial nude scene and suggestive sparring with Vin Diesel’s character. The role that she might play in Riddick 4: Furya is still unclear, but from what we’ve heard, she’ll very likely be involved in some form or another. Since Riddick, Sackhoff has made appearances in movies such as Oculus and 2036 Origin Unknown, while also maintaining a long-running part in television series Longmire, cameos in Star Wars Rebels and a recurring character in The Flash. Although official news on Riddick 4: Furya has been thin on the ground as of late, we’ll be sure to bring you any updates that come through as we get them. After all, with a completed script and shooting schedule reportedly in place, it shouldn’t be long before more comes to light.

Vin Diesel has proven himself over the last two decades as an actor that really loves a franchise, so much so that ever since he made a brief cameo at the conclusion of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006, he’s only appeared in three movies that weren’t part of an already-established brand. For well over a decade, Diesel has stayed firmly within his wheelhouse and played either Dominic Toretto, Groot, Xander Cage or Richard B. Riddick. Next year’s comic book adaptation Bloodshot makes for a slight departure, but after that it looks to be back to business as usual with Fast and Furious 9 and even more sequels thanks to the actor g on to James Cameron’s Avatar follow-ups. While Fast and Furious has brought multi-billion dollar success that reinvented the former street-racing series as one of Hollywood’s premiere blockbuster franchises, Riddick has always seemed like the character closest to Diesel’s heart. Pitch Black marked him out as one of Hollywood’s rising action heroes almost 20 years ago, before The Chronicles of Riddick made the wrong decision entirely in trying to retrofit the Furyan antihero as the star of a space opera in the vein of Star Wars.

It was over a decade before threequel Riddick was finally made, and while it managed to turn a tidy profit at the box office, it seemed as though audiences weren’t as invested in the character as much as Vin Diesel was. A fourth installment has been rumored ever since Riddick scooped up almost over three times its budget though and sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who revealed that the leads in Ghostbusters 3 would be young teens, and that a Swamp Thing movie is in development, both of which have been confirmed – say that Karl Urban could be set to reprise his role as Vaako, with shooting set to begin next year. The New Zealander, who recently solidified his credentials as a no-nonsense tough guy in Amazon’s smash-hit The Boys, played the main antagonist in The Chronicles of Riddick and made a brief cameo in the following installment, and would make a much better opponent for the chrome-domed convict in an R-rated sci-fi than he would in a PG-13 Star Wars knock-off. Still, nothing is set in stone just yet and from what we understand, the actor may not’ve even been approached at this point. All we’ve been told is that the studio would like Urban back for Riddick 4: Furya and is hopeful that he’ll return. And as soon as we get confirmation on whether he’ll be in the film or not, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Vin Diesel, after being rather fast and furious for the last few years, is going to be focusing more on the latter rather than the former in 2020. Why, might you ask, am I winding up for a lame joke? Well, because Riddick 4: Furya is happening kids, and we’re going back to his home planet of Furya – in case you couldn’t tell by the title. Sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us a Black Widow 2 was being planned, which Scarlett Johansson all but confirmed yesterday, and who revealed that a Nova movie was in active development, which has been confirmed as well – say that the script for the fourth Riddick adventure has been completed (as Diesel himself told us a few months ago) and plans are to shoot the film in 2020. Furthermore, it’s expected that David Twohy will return to the director’s seat, and seeing as how he’s handled literally every entry in Riddick’s cinematic oeuvre thus far, as well as having a hand in scripting all three features, it’d only make sense to have him back for this one. While I haven’t seen the 2013 Riddick, I have played through both of the video games and I highly ire Pitch Black for what it is. In fact, the aforementioned film was the first movie I saw on a TV with motion smoothing activated and I’d never wanted to smash a flatscreen faster in my life. Riddick The character’s other solo flick, meanwhile, Chronicles of Riddick, is kind of a dumb action romp. It did expand this weird side of the galaxy Riddick and his pals inhabit though and showcased Karl Urban in one of his most mainstream hits to date. It also gave us the line “I’ll kill you with my teacup.” If that’s not magic, I don’t know what is. Richard B. Riddick also feels like Vin Diesel’s truest character. His quiet rage perfectly fits this hulking murder machine with a heart of…well, maybe not gold, but silver? In any case, I’m glad to hear that he’ll soon return in Riddick 4: Furya and if we receive any further updates on the project, we’ll be sure to let you know.

While Vin Diesel might best be known for his roles in The Fast and the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy series, he was (arguably) propelled into stardom thanks to his work in Pitch Black, which hit theater screens all the way back in 2000. That particular movie has been forgotten by many, but you might be more familiar with its sequels – including 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick Ever since its original release, Pitch Black has been retitled as The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black, and over the past two decades, Diesel has reprised his role as Richard B. Riddick, everyone’s favorite Furyan mercenary/soldier/pilot/all-around badass, on more than a few occasions. While Vin’s busy shooting Fast & Furious 9 (along with two sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar) at the moment, it seems like he may be reprising his role as Riddick in the near future as well. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the actor took to Instagram a few days ago to share some exciting news. It turns out that he was recently given a complete script for Riddick 4: Furya, which seems to have been written by David Twohy, who previously penned and directed the first two films in the series. Vin-Diesel-Riddick Of course, word of another outing for The Chronicles Of Riddick franchise has reared its head many times before, particularly after the release of Riddick, which found itself a decent audience via home video sales even if it failed to light the box office up in the way the studio might’ve hoped. For this next installment, though, we’ve heard that it’ll turn its attention to the origins of Diesel’s brooding Furyan. As for what exactly Riddick’s past may hold, that we don’t know just yet, but the actor has mentioned in previous interviews that the sequel will be a “little more expansive in its mythology.” All that being said, there’s still no guarantee this movie will be made. After all, it’s common for scripts to be written, only to go unproduced for years, sometimes decades. Still, we certainly hope Vin Diesel has another chance to reprise his iconic role as it’d be nice to see the actor take on a more meaty sci-fi part again and with any luck, he’ll get to do just that in Riddick 4: Furya.
