Olympic champion Simone Biles has publicly criticized Kylie Jenner’s fashion brand Khy over sizing issues with their faux leather blazer. The 28-year-old gymnast shared her experience through Instagram Stories, showcasing how the garment completely overwhelmed her 4’8″ frame despite ordering the smallest available size.

According to Hindustan Times, the incident occurred when Biles attempted to wear the deep red blazer from Khy’s collection, which retails for $138. Despite selecting the XXS/S size option, the garment appeared significantly oversized on the seven-time Olympic medalist, leading to her public critique of the brand’s sizing system.

“Ms. Kylie Jenner, this is a crime!!!!!” Biles expressed in her Instagram Story, accompanying a mirror selfie that displayed the ill-fitting blazer. The Olympian further emphasized her point by following up with a comparison to a meme featuring model Gigi Hadid wearing an extremely oversized Vetements hoodie, stating, “This is me on the last slide, SICK.”

Khy’s pricing and size range raise questions about inclusive sizing

The blazer in question is available in three different colors: merlot, honey, and black, with five size ranges from XXS/S to 4X. According to the brand’s website, the piece is described as “a boxy, ultra-oversized blazer with a drop shoulder and flap pockets” made from “textured, structured, faux leather.”

Jenner’s fashion line, which launched in November 2023, has demonstrated significant commercial success, generating $1 million in sales within its first hour of operation. The brand’s outerwear collection prices range from $118 to $498, positioning it in the fashion market segment.

The Kardashian star has previously emphasized her deep involvement in the brand’s development process. In an interview with Vogue, Jenner stated her commitment to the brand, explaining her role in everything from original concept and design to fabric selection and fit meetings, serving as both creative director and marketing lead.

This incident highlights ongoing discussions about sizing standards in the fashion industry, particularly regarding the interpretation of “oversized” styling and its practical implications for consumers of different heights and body types. Biles’ experience specifically underscores the challenges faced by petite consumers when navigating contemporary fashion trends and sizing conventions.

Should a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ all-star season happen, here’s what pairings we would want to see https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/should-a-dancing-with-the-stars-all-star-season-happen-heres-what-pairings-we-would-want-to-see/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/tv/should-a-dancing-with-the-stars-all-star-season-happen-heres-what-pairings-we-would-want-to-see/#respond Wed, 08 Jan 2025 23:26:29 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1821557 We hope we didn’t jinx it.]]>

We have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of celebrity contestants on Dancing With the Stars, but what would happen if the best of the best faced off against one another for the Mirrorball Trophy?

With each season of the Emmy Award-winning series having at least a few standouts, fans of the show have been advocating for a Dancing With the Stars all-star season for quite some time, causing our wheels to start turning…

Using the pros from season 33 of Dancing With the Stars — which wrapped at the end of 2024, with Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson emerging victorious — AND keeping Mirrorball Trophy recipients off of the list, here’s who we would want each pro to be paired with for a Dancing With the Stars all-star season (if it were our decision, of course).

Ezra Sosa and Anna Delvey

As much as we HATE putting con artist Anna Delvey on the all-star list, with Ezra Sosa only having one partner during his Dancing With the Stars career so far, we have no choice but to pair the two together for a potential Dancing With the Stars all-star season. Who knows, though — if Ezra’s season 34 partner (social media sensation Trisha Paytas, perhaps?) is all-star material, perhaps we will make a modification to our list…

Pasha Pashkov and Ariana Madix

From Carole Baskin to Teresa Giudice, Pasha Pashkov has had his fair share of less-than-ideal pairings on Dancing With the Stars, with the exception of one of his celebrity dance partners: Ariana Madix. On season 32, the Vanderpump Rules star was an obvious frontrunner for the Mirrorball Trophy, but after facing some injuries that inhibited some of her mobility towards the end of the season, Ariana and Pasha’s lackluster scores (especially so late in the game) caused the pair to take home a third-place finish instead. Recovering from her injuries and even serving a brief stint on Broadway — as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago — we are confident that she would bounce back into the Dancing With the Stars ballroom better than ever.

Britt Stewart and Daniel Durant

Britt Stewart and Daniel Durant were not only partners on season 31 of Dancing With the Stars, but they might have created the greatest love story we have ever seen on the show. Finishing in fifth place — getting eliminated just shy of finale night — Daniel and Britt had chemistry that was truly undeniable throughout their Dancing With the Stars journey, defying all the odds as the pair navigated Daniel’s inability to hear. Said chemistry managed to stem beyond the ballroom, as the pair pursued a romantic relationship with one another post-show — with Britt even learning sign language for her brand new boo — with the CODA star eventually popping the question. Needless to say, we would love to see this pair dance together again, this time as a husband-and-wife duo.

Emma Slater and Drew Scott

With 16 partners during her Dancing With the Stars career so far, it is tough choosing an all-star partner for Emma Slater, but HGTV’s Drew Scott is calling our name. On season 25, the Property BrothersBrother vs. Brother and Property Brothers at Home star made it all the way to finale night, ending the competition with a fourth-place finish. Despite displaying some stellar dancing skills during his stint on the show, Emma and Drew still have some unfinished business, failing to receive a perfect score. With their highest score being a 39 out of 40 for their Freestyle to “The Ding-Dong Daddy of the D-Car Line,” Perhaps a Dancing With the Stars all-star season will be Drew’s chance to finally cross “perfect score” off of his bucket list…

Gleb Savchenko and Shangela

Showing off a sillier side to Gleb Savchenko that Dancing With the Stars fans rarely get to see, it is a no brainer that we would choose drag queen Shangela as his all-star partner. Despite finishing in fourth place, we all their iconic Freestyle to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and “Call Me Mother” by RuPaul — where Gleb dressed in full drag, AND the pair received a perfect score — right?

Val Chmerkovskiy and Zendaya

He said it himself on a recent episode of the Lightweights podcast with Joe Vulpis, but Val Chmerkovskiy (and fans of the Emmy Award-winning series) would love Zendaya to return for a Dancing With the Stars all-star season. Despite receiving five perfect scores — serving as the obvious frontrunners of the season — the pair ultimately fell short of eventual winners Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough at the end of season 16, securing a second-place finish instead. Needless to say, Val wants a Dancing With the Stars do-over:

“It’s just a click-baity answer. Obviously, Zendaya would be great, just because I would love to do that again and do it better and do it different, and she’s obviously incredible.”

Now, more famous than ever before, fans would love to see EuphoriaChallengers, and Dune star try for the Mirrorball Trophy once again, this time hopefully emerging victorious.

Sasha Farber and Simone Biles

With 12 different partners during his Dancing With the Stars career — including his rumored girlfriend, Bachelorette beauty Jenn Tran — Sasha Farber has quite a few partners to pick from, but selfishly, we want to see Simone Biles back on our television screens ASAP. Finishing season 24 in fourth place, we are eager to see the Olympic gymnast try her luck at adding the Mirrorball Trophy to her collection of athletic accolades, all while competing among the best of the best. After all, as the most decorated gymnast in history, Simone is used to this kind of high-stakes competition!

Daniella Karagach and Nelly

During her first season as a pro, season 29, Daniella Karagach had one of her best partners to date: “Hot In Herre” singer Nelly. Despite making it all the way to finale night — and receiving a perfect score for their Freestyle to “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion and “Hypnotize” by The Notorious B.I.G. — the duo ultimately fell short of victory, finishing the competition in third place. Now, with even more experience under her belt, we are confident that Daniella and Nelly would be contenders for the Mirrorball Trophy this time around, should a Dancing With the Stars all-star season come to fruition.

Witney Carson and Milo Manheim

Arguably the most robbed contestant in Dancing With the Stars history, we NEED to see Milo Manheim reunite with his professional dance partner, Witney Carson, for an all-star season of the show. As a refresher, the ZOMBIES star had some superb dancing skills on season 27, receiving 8s and 9s as early as week two. With three perfect scores to their name by the end of the beloved competition series, it was assumed that Milo and Witney would take home the Mirrorball Trophy, but the world was stunned when Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess were crowned the champions instead, resulting in a second-place finish for the fan favorite pair. Needless to say, the duo deserves some redemption…

Rylee Arnold and Stephen Nedoroscik

With only two partners to her name, Harry Jowsey and Stephen Nedoroscik — and with one of them being an absolute scumbag — it is a no-brainer that we would choose Stephen as Rylee Arnold’s partner, should a Dancing With the Stars all-star season come to fruition. Seemingly the best of friends both during and after their stint on season 33, we know that this pair would have a blast, if given the opportunity to dance together again!

Brandon Armstrong and Chandler Kinney

Also from season 33, Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong are a pair we would love to see return to our television screens. On top of receiving phenomenal scores all season long, Chandler and Brandon made Dancing with the Stars history as the first Black couple to advance to the finale, receiving a perfect score for their Freestyle to to “Hellzapoppin'” by Eyal Vilner Big Band and “Move On Up” by Curtis Mayfield (which was also the show’s first performance to feature an ensemble of all-Black dancers). Finishing the competition in third place nevertheless, we would love to see Chandler and Brandon return to the Dancing With the Stars ballroom to become the first Black couple to take home the Mirrorball Trophy. Plus, with fellow ZOMBIES star Milo Manheim on our all-star list, it would be adorable seeing these longtime friends face off head-to-head…

Alan Bersten and Alexis Ren

ed for their oh-so steamy romance — as well as their fourth-place finish — we would love for social media sensation Alexis Ren to return for a Dancing with the Stars all-star season, rekindling her relationship with her professional dance partner: Alan Bersten. Alexis better watch her back, though — with his season 33 partner, Ilona Maher, seemingly having a some chemistry with Alan, it looks like they will have to fight for his heart (and chances are the Olympic rugby player will emerge victorious).

Jenna Johnson and JoJo Siwa

Competing on season 30 of Dancing With The Stars, JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson made headlines back in 2021, becoming the first same-sex duo to participate in the hit competition show. Sespite being a force to be reckoned with in the Dancing With The Stars ballroom — receiving the first perfect score of the season, followed by five more perfect scores — the pair ultimately fell short to Iman Shumpert and Daniella Karagach in the end, finishing the competition in second place. Honing in on her stellar dancing skills through a series of TikTok dances — and as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance — a Dancing With the Stars all-star season might just be the “Karma” singer’s time to shine, finally bringing home the Mirrorball Trophy that she so desperately deserves.

In the meantime, to keep up with all things Dancing With the Stars, you can connect with the show via social media @dancingwiththestars.

‘Stand up, straighten your back’: Simone Biles challenges Joe Biden on behalf of American women https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/stand-up-straighten-your-back-simone-biles-challenges-joe-biden-on-behalf-of-american-women/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/stand-up-straighten-your-back-simone-biles-challenges-joe-biden-on-behalf-of-american-women/#respond Thu, 07 Nov 2024 22:37:25 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1786785 The Olympian has a stern message ahead of Biden's White House exit. ]]>

We’re a few days out from the results of the presidential election, and already fear has turned into action, as is the case for Olympian Simone Biles.

The gymnast is one of many notable figures who have reacted to the news of Donald Trump’s shocking presidential victory, and while she could have understandably wallowed in that reality, she has instead already urged for change. Taking to X on Nov. 7, Biles shared a message for outgoing President Joe Biden, one that reminds us of the work we have to do particularly as we brace for a second Trump term.

Biles is an Olympic athlete after all, so she’s not just going to sit around when there’s vaults to be jumped and uneven bars to be mounted (can you tell I don’t know much about sports?). In that same spirit of action, Biles addressed her message to “Mr Biden,” before borrowing from the lingo of her sport to push the President for last-minute change before he exits the White House in January. “I need you to stand up, straighten your back and make some things shake before your departure,” Biles wrote.

The gymnast signed off her message on behalf of a demographic that was hardest hit by Trump’s victory. “Xoxo the women in america,” she wrote, giving voice to the legions of women who’ve expressed frustration, hurt, and confusion in the wake of Election Day. Thankfully, Biden has already outlined some of those final days changes he intends to make before ceding his office, and spoke of them in a speech from the White House rose garden on Nov. 7.

Top of the agenda for Biden is his move to restrict oil extraction at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, in opposition to the president-elect’s plans to “drill, baby, drill” (yeah, the president said that). Biden said he will also continue his “surging” humanitarian and military aid for Ukraine, again combating Trump’s plans to reduce U.S. of the country. On the women front, and though not issued by Biden, Democratic Californian Governor Gavin Newsom has responded to Biles’ calls.

It’s said that Newsom had launched plans to “Trump-proof” his state hours before the results of the election became clear, and this involved lawmakers’ particular focus on safeguarding reproductive rights, as well as immigrant protections and climate change progress. Biles’ request for the White House to enshrine its legacy in the 74 days until Trump’s arrival has been echoed by legions of voters.

Alongside protections of women’s rights, many have called on the president to abolish the federal death penalty, review the legal status of marijuana, and speed up citizenship applications to get ahead of Trump’s severe immigration policies. It’s a busy agenda, but if anyone can convince Biden to do it, it’s a highly-decorated Olympian whose moves defy the laws of physics. The last-minute changes Biles speaks of are not without precedent.

If you recall, some of Barack Obama’s final presidential acts before reluctantly welcoming the Oompa Loompa included commuting the sentences of hundreds of people convicted of drug crimes, instituting plans to reduce the role of nuclear weapons, and in his final year, welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that same-sex marriage is a legal right. That’s one heck of a to-do list, but when there’s an unpredictable president-elect on the horizon, we have to jump through hoops, which Biles understands more than anyone.

Family is a major driving force behind Simone Biles‘ unprecedented athletic success, and you might have spotted a few of her relatives cheering from the stands while she competed in Paris.

Biles was adopted when she was six by her maternal grandfather Ronald and his wife Nellie who have always been the pillars of her system, but her siblings are huge cheerleaders too. The Olympic champion has seven known siblings, but she’s closest with her younger sister Adria, whom Ronald and Nellie also adopted, and the couple’s two sons, Ronald Jr. and Adam. The quartet grew up together in Spring, Texas as the boys watched the girls take on gymnastics and begin competing in the biggest stages in the country, and eventually for Simone, the world.

Adria Biles

Adria Biles is two years younger than Simone, and is one of her best friends. The two are thick as thieves and the sister was a bridesmaid at Simone’s wedding. After the 27-year-old first enrolled in gymnastics at six years old, the 25-year-old soon followed. Adria went on to compete for ten years making it to Level 9, which comes just before the professional stage.

Reality TV fans might also recognize the younger Biles woman from the first season of the Jonas Brothers-hosted series Claim to Fame, where relatives of celebrities attempt to reach the finale without their identities being discovered.

Ronald Biles II

Ronald II is Ron and Nellie’s oldest son, making him both Simone’s uncle and her brother through adoption. According to his LinkedIn profile, he’s a Regional Sales Manager working in Spring, Texas, but his biggest ion seems to be his family. His daughter, Ronni, was a sensation at the Paris Olympics after dressing just like her auntie in the GK Elite “Star-Spangled Shine” Team U.S.A. leotard. Per Marca, the little one is also enrolled at the Biles’ gym World Champions Centre.

Adam Biles

Ronald and Nellie’s youngest son, Adam, is an Implementation Consultant at an HR firm in Tempe, Arizona. Back in the day, he was the general manager of the family business, AKA Simone’s training facility.

Ashley and Tevin Biles-Thomas

Ashley and Tevin Biles are Simone’s siblings through her mother, Shanon, and they were placed in foster care as little kids along with the gymnast and Adria. Shanon’s two oldest children were then adopted by Ronald’s sister, Harriet.

Both Ashley and Tevin have made headlines for problems with the law. The latter has been arrested in the past for driving under the influence, assault, drug-related charges and operating a vehicle while impaired, according to Radar Online and The Sun.

Meanwhile, Tevin was a murder suspect in a 2018 shooting but was acquitted of all charges in 2021 for insufficient evidence. He was initially identified by Cleveland police as the shooter, per CNN, but no witnesses were able to confidently place him at the scene of the crime. “Everyone says we look like twins, but we don’t see it,” Biles tweeted in 2017 alongside a few pictures of the two siblings hanging out. According to the Daily Mail, Tevin was in the Army in 2016.

Taron and Shania Biles-Walker

Taron and Shania are Shanon’s youngest children. They were featured in a 2016 Daily Mail article featuring one of Biles’ biological mother’s first-ever public interviews. They were 12 and 9 years old, respectively, at the time, now the brother is a sophomore business student at Norfolk State University and a wide receiver and kick returner for their college team, the NSU Spartans. According to the institution’s website, he made the AD Honor Roll in both semesters of his freshman year.

Simone Biles has overcome significant challenges to become the world-renowned gymnast we now know and love. The Columbus, Ohio native entered foster care at three years old before she was adopted by her maternal grandfather and his wife.

Biles has called Grandpa and Grandma “Mom and Dad” since and has credited them for her success. “Thanks for making sacrifices since day one so I can live out my dream,” the record-breaking gymnast acknowledged in a 2021 X post completed with two heartwarming pictures of the trio. “Having my parents and that made me who I am today,” she told CNN in 2023.

Ronald and Nellie Cayetano Biles are the names of the man and woman who adopted Simone when she was six, along with her younger sister Adria, bringing them to Spring, Texas. Their two older siblings, Tevin and Ashley, were adopted by Ron’s sister, Harriet. In the same CNN interview, Biles described being “so hungry” at times during her stay in a foster home, but luckily she was placed with her siblings.

After the pandemic kept them from attending the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Ron and Nellie, along with Simone’s husband, footballer player for the Chicago Bears Jonathan Owens, cheered enthusiastically for their champion daughter from the stands. Their tight bond was portrayed in the Netflix docu Simone Biles Rising, where Nellie is seen ing her daughter after her decision to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics.

Who are Simone Biles’ birth parents?

Simone Biles was born March 14, 1997, to Shanon Biles and Kelvin Clemons, but the couple, who were teenagers when they met, both struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. The gymnast’s mom was in and out of jail at the time her four children were placed in foster care.

In a 2016 interview with the Daily Mail, Shanon revealed that her dad completely cut with her when they signed the adoption papers, a decision she now respects and confesses was necessary.

It was hard to give up my kids but I had to do what I had to, I wasn’t able to care for them. I was still using and he didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right.”

It wasn’t until Simone was 12 that the two got to be together in person again, but Shanon never managed to open up to her daughter about the details of their shared past and has kept minimal direct with the Olympian since, receiving updates from Ronald instead. The 52-year-old, who has been sober since 2007, touched base with the Daily Mail again during the Paris Olympics saying she would like to “make amends with Simone personally.” She lamented not getting to be a part of Simone’s wedding to Owens in 2023 but respects that the must come from Simone and that she will wait.

Bio dad Clemons has never been a part of Simone’s life, however. He’s in with Shanon and the two discuss their daughter’s incredible success often.

‘We both want to see her. I talk to him all the time. He says, ‘If you talk to Simone, give her my number. I’d love to talk to her.’ But I can’t even talk to her. I have to go through my dad.”

Simone competed at her fourth Olympics in the first weeks of August, taking home an astounding three gold medals in the Team, All-Around, and Vault events, plus an extra silver for Floor, bringing her Olympic total to 11 medals. The 27-year-old is the most decorated gymnast of all time across all competitions and is widely considered one of the greatest athletes in history. Speaking to Today still fresh from her Paris triumph, she said she would not be where she is today if it wasn’t for her parents and adoption.

Was Simone Biles pregnant at the Olympics 2024? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/was-simone-biles-pregnant-at-the-olympics-2024/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/celebrities/was-simone-biles-pregnant-at-the-olympics-2024/#respond Tue, 13 Aug 2024 19:40:06 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1738617 Here we go again... ]]>

Benjamin Franklin once said that “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” It’s pretty obvious he wasn’t around in the age of tabloids and social media, otherwise his renowned quote would have to be adjusted to include “rumors about female celebrity pregnancies.” They’re a dime a dozen, and record-breaking Olympic gymnast Simone Biles seems to be their latest target.

If your gullible relative who spends a little too much time on Facebook texted you the news about the 27-year-old champion’s bun in the oven, prompting you to freak out for a second before rolling your eyes over the obvious fakeness of the post they’ve just linked out, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

The post in question seemingly stemmed from the NFL Spotlight on Facebook and credited Fox News as being the source of the breaking news, quoting Biles as saying she was “expecting a baby” with husband Jonathan Owens, safety for the Chicago Bears.

Is there any truth to the rumors that Simone Biles is pregnant?

Well, the only people who can really answer this question are Biles and Owens, but we can confidently state that no trustworthy source has reported on Biles’ rumored pregnancy. Also, considering this same thing just happened in December, prompting the athlete to begrudgingly deny the speculation, it’s hard to believe there are any major differences this time around.

As often happens when a woman’s stomach is anything but perfectly flat, people began asking Biles whether she was expecting after she posted a photo at Metlife Stadium where she was ing her hubby. “I hate that I even have to address this,” she stated in a later Instagram story, clarifying “I’m not pregnant.”

Upon her return from Paris, the 11-time Olympic medal recipient talked about building a family with Owens, telling Today they have discussed the topic and that she “most definitely” sees herself as a mom. The two elite athletes, however, have plenty of goals they want to achieve before taking that step. For Biles, who, at 27, became the oldest U.S. Gymnast to compete at the Olympics since the ’50s, having a kid would probably mean retiring from high-level gymnastics competition, and anyone who tuned into to her gold and silver-worthy performances in Paris can see she’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank.

What happened to Simone Biles’ leg? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/sports/what-happened-to-simone-biles-leg/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/sports/what-happened-to-simone-biles-leg/#respond Mon, 12 Aug 2024 14:19:04 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1737958 Is she okay?!]]>

Simone Biles absolutely crushed it at the 2024 Olympics. However, despite the medal haul she had a tough time at the epic event and, at the closing ceremony appeared to be wearing a medical boot.

While she’s one of the most incredible female gymnasts, Biles talks to her fans like they’re her friends and always opens up about what she’s going through. Since she’s known as such a genuine person (who just happens to be an awe-inspiring athlete capable of some feats others can only dream of), fans want to know everything about her, including whether she’s injured.

Did Simone Biles hurt her leg at the 2024 Olympics?

While cheering Biles on at the 2024 Olympics as she won four medals (yay!), people saw she had a boot on. According to NBC, her calf began hurting when she was warming up on July 28th, 2024. She had tape on her ankle and calf and as fans know, still blew everyone away during her various events. Since she had this “minor injury,” she wore a boot to make sure it didn’t get any worse. There have been other injuries at the games this year, as Colin Jost hurt himself surfing while covering the sport in Tahiti.

Fans are of course glad that Biles isn’t seriously hurt, but it’s hard not to worry about the physical toll of her career. While some athletes might plan for a nice long break after the Olympics, which is intense and exhausting (to say the least!), Biles is going on her “Gold Over America Tour” in fall 2024. She mentioned that she’s taking time to relax and make sure she’ll be in fine form for her tour (which fans definitely don’t doubt). According to NBC.com, the gymnast explained that “elite athletes are pretty tough” and added “through pain or pleasure, we’re ready for whatever.”

This isn’t the first time that Biles has hurt herself… and it might not be the last considering how rough gymnastics can be. In an interview with The Daily Mail in 2019, she talked about having had a broken rib, a terrible toe injury, and having partially torn her calf more than once. She said her body “is screaming and yelling at me” and that she feels pain as soon as she opens her eyes in the morning.

Biles is beloved for being honest about her mental health struggles, and if she were seriously injured, she would have likely itted it. She is aware of her massive platform and raised awareness of mental health in sports when she decided not to be part of the Tokyo Olympic Games. She told Good Housekeeping in 2022 that she had to look after herself “rather just go out there and do what the world wants us to do and potentially injuring yourself.” She added, “I had to put myself above all else.”

Of course, if any athlete can handle a packed schedule and get over a calf injury, we’d say it was Biles.

“My heart breaks for her” How Ana Bărbosu lost the bronze medal to Jordan Chiles https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/my-heart-breaks-for-her-how-ana-barbosu-lost-the-bronze-medal-to-jordan-chiles/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/events/my-heart-breaks-for-her-how-ana-barbosu-lost-the-bronze-medal-to-jordan-chiles/#respond Mon, 05 Aug 2024 21:43:22 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1735252 She tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter. ]]>

There’s no denying how much sweat, blood, and tears go into training for the Olympics. Every single athlete that makes it to the time-honored trials deserves their moment to shine. But few athletes make it to the top only to come crashing back down.

Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu was one of the unlucky few to have her dreams come true only to find out that she missed her moment just an insultingly small amount.

Why did Jordan Chiles take Ana Bărbosu’s Olympic medal?

It really isn’t fair to say that Bărbosu’s medal was stolen, but to anyone watching as it was happening, it really felt that way. The final scores were tallied for the women’s floor exercises, and the 18-year-old Romanian appeared to have cinched her spot by the barest fraction of a point. She took to the floor with her country’s flag, eager to celebrate her win.

But as she leaped for joy, there was trouble brewing behind the scenes. The judges had failed to score one of U.S, contender Jordan Chiles’ moves. With 13.66, Bărbosu narrowly sinched bronze, but when Chiles’ routine was recalculated to 13.766, it knocked her down to fourth.

Chiles’ trainers were the ones to push the judges to reevaluate their scores. The gymnast had performed a split leap with a 1.5 turn that had gone untallied. The meager tenth of a point was all that was needed to push Chiles into third. Bărbosu left the arena in tears, prompting fellow Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci to slam the Olympic committee in charge.

The bronze medal marks the first time 23-year-old Jordan Chiles has placed outside of her team in 2024. Throughout the games, a rule that limits the games to just two athletes per country and her two incredible teammates –Simone Biles, Suni Lee, and Jade Carey – have left Chiles on the sidelines.

The strain of professional gymnastics usually forces athletes to retire in their early 20s. We don’t have enough information to speculate on which gymnasts might be retiring after the Paris games, but there is a real chance Bărbosu may never face off against Chiles again.
Shortly after the devastating event, Bărbosu took to Instagram, “Thank you to everyone who encouraged me before, during, and after the competition,” she wrote.

For her sake, however, we hope that she gets the chance to compete against her again, and this time, maybe the judges will be better at their jobs.

From Gabriel Medina’s mid-surf levitation to Pan Zhanle’s swimming world record and Novak Djokovic’s first gold medal, the 2024 Paris Olympics have not been short of memorable moments. Gymnastics, however, has outshone all other sports.

A beautiful moment between champions took over the Paris 2024 conversation on Monday after silver-medalist Simone Biles and bronze-medalist Jordan Chiles (both Team U.S.) decided to bow down to their competitor and friend, Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade. Andrade finally made it to gold in the floor exercise after securing the third and second spots on the podium, respectively, in the past week.

Andrade managed to beat gymnastics superstar Biles with a gorgeous floor routine that earned her a 14.166 score and Team Brazil a second gold medal at this edition of the Olympic Games. The two athletes had been neck and neck for the past week, with Biles coming out on top on nearly every occasion. The rivalry soon turned into refreshing camaraderie, culminating in the year’s best photo — a perfect capture of the Olympic spirit.

Nancy Armour, a sports reporter for USA Today, shared the behind-the-scenes of the eye-watering moment. The idea to bow down to the winner came from Chiles, who had also just achieved her own dream by winning her first-ever individual medal in a last-minute turn-around, but Biles was quick to in. “It was just the right thing to do,” the most decorated gymnast in history told reporters, adding “[Rebeca] is queen.”

The three women, aged 27, 25, and 23 (L-R), made further history by becoming the first all-Black podium in Olympic Gymnastics history. “I’m sorry Medina, but this is the photo of Paris 2024,” Brazilian journalist Gustavo Zupak commented.

The healthy competition between Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade has been one of the highlights of the 2024 Olympics, with the former joking on Thursday, after winning the All-Around competition by a short margin, that she didn’t want to compete with her Brazilian rival anymore.

I’m tired! She’s way too close. I’ve never had an athlete that close, so it definitely put me on my toes and it brought out the best athlete in myself, so I’m excited and proud to compete with her, but uh-uh. I’m getting uncomfortable, guys! I was stressing!”

Rebeca is the most decorated Olympian in Brazil’s history, and the first person to beat Simon Biles on floor since 2015 — no small feat considering the American’s reputation as one of the greatest athletes of all time. The historic photo, which will no doubt be ed for years or even centuries to come, is the perfect send-off to this especially exciting chapter in Artistic Gymnastics history as the sport’s events wrap up at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Why is John Travolta’s reaction to Simone Biles winning gold getting attention? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/sports/why-is-john-travoltas-reaction-to-simone-biles-winning-gold-getting-attention/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/sports/why-is-john-travoltas-reaction-to-simone-biles-winning-gold-getting-attention/#respond Sat, 03 Aug 2024 20:27:26 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1734512 And why it certainly should NOT matter.]]>

Simone Biles made history once again at the 2024 Paris Olympics, securing her 10th Olympic medal. However, it seems that NBC’s broadcast team was more interested in capturing the reactions of celebrities in the stands than focusing on Biles’ incredible achievement.

As Biles wowed the crowd with her gravity-defying vaults, spectators couldn’t help but notice the camera repeatedly panning to Hollywood actor John Travolta. The Grease star‘s apparent lack of enthusiasm as he clapped for Biles’ performance quickly became a hot topic on social media, with s creating memes and poking fun at his emotionless expression. It’s almost as if Travolta was watching paint dry rather than witnessing one of the greatest gymnasts of all time make history.

Biles executed two flawless vaults, including her signature move, the “Biles II,” which left the audience in awe. She followed this up with a stunning “Cheng” vault, which involved a half-turn onto the table and a 1.5 mid-air twist, earning her a score of 14.900. With a final average of 15.300, Biles secured the gold medal, becoming only the second woman in history to win two vault crowns. Her final score of 15.300 showcased her unparalleled skill and dedication to her craft.

Before this latest triumph, Biles had already bagged a total of nine Olympic and 30 world championship medals. Simone’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing all the way. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which actually took place in 2021 due to the pandemic, she faced a significant challenge. Despite being a top contender, she stepped back from several events to focus on her mental health. She was dealing with the “twisties,” a dangerous condition where gymnasts lose track of their position in the air, which can lead to serious injury. After taking time off to recover and regroup, Simone made a strong comeback. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she was back in top form.

Does John Travolta’s reaction make Simone Biles’ victory any less impressive?

There is a two-word answer – Hell NO!

We can devote decades to dissecting the actor’s reaction but without taking focus away from the moment that needs to be celebrated with pride.

It’s disappointing that NBC’s broadcast chose to divert attention from Biles’ historic moment by repeatedly cutting to shots of John Travolta in the crowd. While celebrity presence at sporting events is not unusual and yes, those minor reaction shots add to the moment, the emphasis should have remained on the athlete and her incredible feat. Biles’ performance should be celebrated on its own merits, regardless of how a celebrity might react.

But what happened did happen, so kudos to Simone Biles and her powerful achievement that refuses to be overshadowed.

‘I love my black job’: Simone Biles sticks it to former Cheeto-in-Chief Donald Trump as Mark Hamill awards her another medal https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/i-love-my-black-job-simone-biles-sticks-it-to-former-cheeto-in-chief-donald-trump-as-mark-hamill-awards-her-another-medal/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/news/i-love-my-black-job-simone-biles-sticks-it-to-former-cheeto-in-chief-donald-trump-as-mark-hamill-awards-her-another-medal/#respond Fri, 02 Aug 2024 21:24:45 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1734285 Biles has been killing it lately, in Paris and on social media. ]]>

Gymnast Simone Biles, who won two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games, has been as fierce on social media as of late as she has has been in competition, and one of her recent politically-oriented X posts had actor Mark Hamill applauding.

Biles first threw shade at retired Olympic gymnast MyKayla Skinner, who, before the Paris Games, suggested the U.S. gymnastics team’s work ethic isn’t what it used to be. Then, after taking home gold in the women’s all-around competition, Biles shared musician Ricky Davila’s post on X, captioned “Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job,” along with Biles pictured posing with her medals. Biles added to the post, “I love my black job 🖤,” a swipe at Donald Trump.

According to Hamill, Biles belongs in more than one hall of fame

Mark Hamill noticed Simone Biles’ post, which makes sense because Hamill is an outspoken Donald Trump critic and Kamala Harris er. (And we’re not sure which we’d prefer: Olympic gold medals, or flowers from Luke Skywalker.) Biles’ post refers to comments Donald Trump has made in his second campaign for president, that American immigrants are taking “Black jobs.” But since then, Trump has failed to define what a “Black job” is.

Trump’s “Black jobs” comment was challenged in a disastrous National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) interview, which saw the former president claim to be the best for Black Americans since Abraham Lincoln, and cast doubt on Kamala Harris’ Black heritage. When asked to define a “Black job” at the NABJ, Trump responded, “A Black job is anybody that has a job, that’s what it is. Anybody that has a job.”

The immigration versus “Black jobs” debate

via JG/X

Trump’s “Black jobs” comment isn’t the first time immigration’s impact on Black employment and wages has been disputed, as noted in Mark Hamill’s comments section. The Obama istration studied how immigration could economically affect Black Americans. Around that same time, in 2013, the Black American Leadership Alliance marched against an immigration reform bill they said would harm Black workers by letting more workers into the country legally, according to U.S News & World Report. But then, as now, that position was controversial.

“If ed, the proposed immigration bill will be costly for all Americans but will harm black American workers more than any other group. Mass immigration and amnesty puts African-Americans from all walks of life out of work and suppresses wages, causing them to compete with aliens willing to work in poorer working conditions for cheaper pay,” the alliance wrote in a letter opposing the bill.

But Walter Ewing, a senior researcher at the Immigration Policy Center, responded, “Playing a racial blame game in which immigrants are singled out as the cause of minority unemployment may be politically expedient, but it doesn’t hold water when it comes to evidence. The fact is that minorities living in high-immigration cities tend to have lower unemployment and higher wages than minorities in low-immigration cities. Immigrants create jobs, they don’t steal them.”

Before the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, MyKayla Skinner, a retired U.S. Olympic gymnast, disparaged the current U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team in a since-deleted YouTube video. After the women’s team won gold, Simone Biles referenced Skinner’s remarks in a celebratory post on Instagram, and other Olympic athletes showed up in Biles’ comments section.

Shortly after the U.S. women’s gymnastics team was announced in June, Skinner said on YouTube, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be … [O]bviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.” Skinner added, “Coaches can’t get on athletes, and they have to be really careful what they say.” Amid controversy about what Skinner said, the YouTube post was taken down, but clips are still on X.

After the 2024 victory, Biles shared a photo of herself alongside her teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera, holding the U.S. flag, captioned: “Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions ❤🥇🇺🇸.” Skinner, 27, who competed alongside Biles at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo and took home Silver in the vault, has since retired from the sport to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism.

Skinner says her comments were misinterpreted

via Simone Biles/Instagram

Earlier in July, MyKayla Skinner apologized for her remarks regarding the U.S. Olympic team, claiming her words were misinterpreted. In her Instagram stories, Skinner said she wasn’t necessarily referring to the current Olympic gymnasts, adding she loved and ed them. Instead, she said her remarks were about going to the gym these days and noticing the work ethic has changed. Especially compared to the Márta Károlyi era, she said, who along with her husband Bela, coached one of the most successful eras in U.S. gymnastics, but has since been implicated in the Larry Nassar abuse scandal.

“So anyway, sorry for anything that got out of context or seemed hurtful. That is never my intention. And seriously, throughout the video, I was so pumped for the girls, and it was so fun watching trials and doing a live with everybody,” Skinner added.

Skinner gave the women’s team their flowers, but was the damage done?

via Simone Biles/X

After the U.S. women’s gymnastics win, Mykayla Skinner congratulated the team in her Instagram stories, sharing a picture of the team receiving their medals and three heart emojis. The next day, however, Simone Biles posted on X that she was blocked, and although Biles does not clarify whether Skinner herself had blocked her, it seemed to reference the shade she threw at Skinner in her post.

So apparently some tension remains between Biles and Skinner. Based on the comments section on Biles’ original “Lack of talent” post from fans and even other Olympic athletes, public opinion is with Biles. Mykayla Maroney, a retired American Olympic gymnast who won gold in 2012, commented, “It doesn’t get more iconic than this. She f’d around n found out fr. Feels like I need to apologize just to redeem my first name [sic].” At the same time, Olympic alpine skier and two-time gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin added, “🤭 NEVER A DOUBT!!🫠” Proving, besides Skinner, team Mikayla is on Biles’ side.
