Sony’s communication has been vague at best.]]>
<![CDATA[

For many of us, weekends are all about plopping onto the couch, controller in hand, ready to escape into fantastical worlds where we’re not just regular humans drowning in bills but heroic warriors, space explorers, or, at the very least, someone who can double-jump without pulling a hamstring. 1g4d65

But this weekend? It has been a cruel joke because the unthinkable has happened: PlayStation Network (PSN) is down, and for countless gamers, the world feels bleak, empty, and unfairly cruel. It could have been survivable — if only you could blame yourself. But no, this is out of your hands, which makes it even worse. Sony, why have you forsaken us?

At around 6 pm ET on Feb. 7, reports of outages started flooding in. Affected s couldn’t sign in, stream games, or even browse the PlayStation Store. Players from the U.S., U.K., and Australia all reported being locked out of their games. Even those with physical discs weren’t completely spared, as some titles require online authentication before they’ll let you play. According to Down Detector, a website that tracks outages, over 640,000 reports had been logged by early Saturday. Sony’s official status page didn’t exactly inspire confidence either. Most services were marked in red.

When is the PlayStation Network coming back online? 4j1r4r

Sony released a statement through its social media on X, saying they were aware of the issue and working to resolve it. “Some s might be currently experiencing issues,” they said.

Naturally, angry gamers took to X and Reddit to vent their frustrations.

Online gaming for many is a way to socialize, de-stress, and unwind. This outage has reignited a long-standing debate about the gaming industry’s reliance on online connectivity. Back in the day, you could pop a cartridge into your console, blow on it for good luck (even though that probably didn’t help), and play to your heart’s content. Today, even single-player games often require an internet connection, thanks to updates, DRM, and cloud integration. Your ability to enjoy what you’ve paid for is now at the mercy of servers you have no control over.

For veteran PlayStation s, this outage brings back the memories of the 2011 PSN hack. The attack forced Sony to take the network offline for nearly a month, disrupting services for around 77 million s worldwide. The personal information of 77 million s was exposed. Sony initially stated there was no evidence that credit card data was stolen but later itted it could not rule out the possibility. While there’s no evidence that this current outage is the result of a breach, the parallels are enough to make anyone nervous. The longer PSN stays offline, the more players are going to start wondering.

Sony’s Spider-Man universe is a cinematic laughing stock. Just when it seemed Kraven the Hunter was going to change all that, audience and critics’ reviews (somewhat inevitably) proved otherwise. So not even Aaron Taylor-Johnson could save the SSU.

Over the years, Sony’s extended universe of Spider-Man villain movies has been underperforming. The studio has made valiant attempts to capture the glory of the MCU before it, but it looks like Sony might be ready to throw in the towel, because even the CEO’s flabbergasted.

Kraven the Hunter’s box office flop 1oi5p

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, the movie set out to explore the his complex relationship with his father. However, despite the considerable star power Taylor-Johnson brought to the role, it was met with negative reviews and little audience interest.

Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO, Tony Vinciquerra spoke to the Los Angeles Times about his tenure as CEO, and his thoughts on the failed Sony Spider-Man universe, or SSU. Vinciquerra will be stepping down after seven years of service, and Sony COO Ravi Ahuja will take on the role. When asked about his thoughts on the performance of Sony’s recent movies, including Kraven and Madame Web, which were released earlier this year, Vinciquerra was pretty much lost for words. He said he doesn’t understand why Kraven didn’t do well, because “the film is not a bad film.”

For Madame Web, he turned the blame to the press, saying, “Madame Web underperformed in the theaters because the press crucified it. It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix.” However, his thoughts on the movie are a huge contradiction to what audiences were saying about it. Madame Web, and Dakota Johnson’s portrayal of the titular character, were widely regarded as simply bad.

Kraven on the other hand, had the dishonor of setting the record for the worst opening weekend of any movie in the SSU, earning only $26 million on a budget of $110-150 million.

The SSU is on its last legs 4m8v

Following Tobey Maguire’s iconic run as Spider-Man, and Andrew Garfield’s popular but critically panned time in the suit, Sony and Marvel Studios came to a deal for Spidey in the MCU. Tom Holland’s wild success in the role led Sony to try to ride on the MCU’s coattails and release a litany of movies centered around Spidey-related villains.

The SSU began with Venom and its sequel Let There Be Carnage and includes six movies in total. The Venom movies are often regarded as the only decent movies in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, while Morbius marked the beginning of their laughing stock era. Venom’s trilogy ended with Venom: The Last Dance, and while all three of his movies performed moderately well, the same can’t be said for the rest of the SSU.

As of now, Kraven the Hunter is the final film in the SSU, and while many are happy to see it go, there will always be a lingering “what if” around these characters and what could have happened if they’d had better adaptations.

Congrats, Sony, you went from cinematic magnificence of Spider-Man 2 to the towering feat of tedium that is Kraven the Hunter in exactly 20 years! The Venom trilogy might be fun in its dopey, demented way, but the other three films that make up the so-called Sony’s Spider-Man Universe — an ironic name for a franchise defined by the absence of said hero — are among the worst the comic book movie genre has to offer. It gets you to thinking, then… Is enough finally enough?

Back in 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made a whole heap of moolah, but its shaky storytelling foundations were still enough to embolden Kevin Feige to pitch Sony a groundbreaking co-production deal between them and his Marvel Studios — enter Tom Holland’s MCU-native webhead. This never took any rights away from Sony, though, which is why the studio has pumped out solo films for whichever toys left in their toybox Marvel didn’t want to play with ever since.

But, after two out of three of its 2024 offerings proved to be embarrassing misfires, it looks like Sony might be ready to cut and run. Not just from the half-dozen films dropped under the SSU banner (a true Sinister Six if I ever saw one), but perhaps even from the rights to Spider-Man himself. Could Sony really be planning to hand the entire Spider-Verse back to Marvel?

Is Sony selling the Spidey rights to Marvel? Don’t swing from the rooftops just yet… 136q3j

Spider-Man: No Way Home

In the wake of Kraven opening lower than even Madame Web at the box office, rumors are swirling that Sony might’ve decided to cut ties with their biggest cash-cow and simply hand the keys to the Spider-Man kingdom back over to Marvel. According to the word on the internet, the studio is “seriously considering” making what would no doubt be a Kingpin-sized pile of cash by selling the rights to the House of Ideas.

So, is this really happening? In short… No. There is no official, or even reliably reported, information indicating that Sony is considering selling the Spider-Man rights, so we should probably consider this as trustworthy as Mysterio for the time being. This would be the dream scenario for wallcrawler fans everywhere, of course, but recent history has shown us that Sony isn’t in the habit of actually giving fans what they want.

For starters, it’s important to note that the SSU hasn’t been officially axed. As per The Wrap, it’s only that Sony is looking to focus on Spider-Man 4 for the moment as they know that’s where all the big money and acclaim is. After that, it’s very possible Sony will reboot its own shared universe plans. , a Nicolas Cage-starring Spider-Man Noir series is coming to Prime Video in 2025, so it’s possible the franchise will pivot to the small screen from now on. Then there’s the beloved animated Spider-Verse films to consider.

All in all, yes, selling Spider-Man would give Sony a huge windfall in the short-term, but even if recent flops have proven they can’t just take a random villain from his rogues gallery and make a movie about them, the popularity of Spidey both as an individual character and as a multiversal brand continues to be sky-high. Maybe Feige really has managed to sweet-talk them into selling, maybe not. If not then we need Sony to that with great power over the Spider-Man legacy also comes great responsibility.

<![CDATA[

There’s two ways of looking at Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s newest movie, Kraven the Hunter. Here’s the positive way: Years after being killed off as Quicksilver, the Bullet Train star has finally got his very own Marvel film all to himself. On the other hand, said film is the last entry in the world-renowned rubbish tip that is Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which arguably only rubs salt in the wound of the MCU disposing of him so swiftly.

Taylor-Johnson’s press tour for Kraven is unsurprisingly a lot more polite and British than that undertaken by Dakota Johnson for this year’s earlier Sony effort, Madame Web, during which Johnson’s distaste for her own movie became abundantly clear. The Kick-Ass veteran may well be proud (somehow) of his involvement with Kraven, then, but even so, it’s obvious that he still holds a bit of a grudge that he was never asked back to play Marvel’s Pietro Maximoff.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has something to ask Elizabeth Olsen about why he never came back to the MCU 3a2d3b

And, apparently, his on-screen sister (and, weirdly, wife) Elizabeth Olsen shoulders some of the blame. While reflecting on his career in a video interview with IMDb, the topic of Taylor-Johnson’s two-time working relationship with the fan-favorite actress came up. The 34-year-old Englishman gushed about his Age of Ultron co-star, even if he does have one big question for Scarlet Witch.

“Lizzie Olsen, phenomenal actor. Absolute star. And a wonderful person, wonderful human being, and I’n not just saying that. She’s really lovely,” Taylor-Johnson praised. “I was very fortunate. We played husband and wife in Godzilla and brother and sister in Avengers… I don’t know why she didn’t resurrect me, though.”

Aaron, you’re not alone in wondering that, although perhaps that’s a question best directed at Marvel Studios execs rather than Olsen herself. Wanda Maximoff’s powers are now at the point where she can cross the multiverse and even create twin sons from scratch, so there’s really no in-universe reason why his Quicksilver variant has never returned. The wildest thing is that Taylor-Johnson’s X-Men franchise counterpart, Evan Peters, has now made more MCU appearances than he has.

The good news is that there’s still an opportunity for Taylor-Johnson to at long last make an MCU comeback before the Multiverse Saga ends. Most notably in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, perhaps even for a team-up scene with Peters’ version. That certainly seems more likely to happen than a reprisal of Sergei Kravinoff, anyway, as Kraven the Hunter‘s poor box office projections and dismal reviews seem to have killed off the SSU for good.

Again, there’s a positive and negative side here. Being the face of such a major flop may damage his rumored James Bond chances… But at least that would give him lots of free time to return as Quicksilver whenever Marvel wanted him. Come on, Kevin Feige, do the guy a solid. You owe him big for exiling him to Sony Land in the first place.

<![CDATA[

To quote the opening of Wicked (a movie that this franchise would kill to swap places with): good news! She’s dead! It appears that Sony has finally realized that its Spider-Man-less Spider-Man universe is never going to cut it and so the incoming Kraven the Hunter is being quietly positioned as the final entry in what has to be the world’s sorriest excuse for a cinematic universe.

One compliment you have to give the studio, I guess, is that it bravely — some one would say foolishly — marched ahead even after the release of Morbius, one of the most ridiculed movies of the decade, the kind of toxic embarrassment that would kill lesser (or, in this case, greater) film series.

Remarkably, things have only gone downhill since the dawn of Morbin Time in 2022 — at least in financial , if not quality, that would be impossible. Enter Kraven‘s roaringly bad box office projects, which make it all the more obvious why this is Sony’s last hunt in the Marvel jungle.

Kraven the Hunter is on track for a worse opening weekend than Morbius, so we might as well light this box office bomb now 4p656s

The projections for Kraven‘s opening weekend at the box office are in, and they’re about as pretty as the Green Goblin. Even the more generous estimates guess at earnings in the $20-25 million range, while the more severe — and probably more accurate — foresee something closer to $13-15 million. For context, the world-famous flop that was Morbius sucked $39 million from the necks of moviegoers over its opening weekend.

In fact, Kraven could do even worse than its sister in the SSU (Sony’s Spider-Man Universe), the beautifully bonkers Madame Web. At least that managed managed $25 million across its extended six-day opening timeframe, and $15 in the traditional three-day weekend. If Kraven really does slip down towards $13m then the SSU will bow out with its biggest bomb yet, which is probably the most fitting way for this most hubristic of Hollywood enterprises to die.

At least Sony managed to cough up the Venom trilogy before the implosion of this universe — even though this fall’s Venom: The Last Dance was the lowest-grossing of the three, it still performed solidly, bringing home $473 million by the end of its theatrical run. No doubt the studio will be pushing for more of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his symbiote significant other, then, but something tells us they’ll be leaving the creative side of things to Marvel from now on.

“It’s really about the next Spider-Man film,” an insider told The Wrap upon discussing Sony’s pivoting strategy when it comes to its Marvel assets. Tom Holland’s Spidey flicks have, of course, found enormous success, which is probably in large part due to their nature as Marvel/Sony co-productions, with Sony providing the money and Marvel handling basically everything else.

If it’s some small consolation, while early reviews are still looking pretty carnivorous, critics don’t seem to be as out for blood as they were with Morbius. Kraven might be the greatest hunter in the Marvel mythos, but the whole Sony’s Spider-Man Universe experiment ended up more as prey than predator.

<![CDATA[

And so the superhero movie year ends just as it began. The first comic book film of 2024 was February’s Madame Web, Sony’s inexplicable attempt to keep its Spider-Man spin-off universe going after it died a chaotic yet anemic death with Morbius. Proving that the definition of insanity really is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, Sony is now back with yet another entry in its flailing franchise, with this December’s Kraven the Hunter. And, shock horror, it’s not looking good.

After Venom: The Last Dance became the lowest-grossing film in its trilogy this fall, Sony decided to make a desperate grab for tickets by revealing the first eight minutes of Kraven almost a full two weeks before it hits cinemas. If the intent was to blow fans away with this tease and send them flying to theaters to book their seats then Sony misjudged things big time, as this sneak peek has only cemented cinema-goers’ desire to give this one a wide berth.

Sony, honey, maybe let this franchise bow out with dignity.

So what don’t people like about this extended clip? While it’s a plus that the movie actually opens with some kind of blood-pumping action scene — a prerequisite of the genre that Morbius and Madame Web foolishly forewent — much criticism is being directed at the sequence’s choppy editing.

Not to mention there’s something shifty about Aaron Taylor-Johnon’s intro. Are we sure he’s hyping up this film of his own free will?

One plus? Surely this has got to be it for the SSU (Sony’s Spider-Man Universe) this time.

To be fair to Sony and Kraven, dropping the first 10 minutes of a movie is becoming an increasingly common marketing tactic. It’s not so much of a problem, though, when said first 10 minutes are actually, you know, good.

Bad is a comparative label when it comes to Sony’s Spidey flicks, of course. Although it’s true Kraven is clearly more competently manufactured than its forebears, it still suffers from the same intrinsic problem as everything from this whole sorry saga: Can villains just be villains, please?

On paper, Kraven the Hunter actually has a lot going for it. It features three classic Spidey villains who have either never appeared in live-action before or who haven’t been done justice — Chameleon, Rhino, and Kraven himself. Unlike Gladiator II, it has Russell Crowe in it. Not to mention it stars Taylor-Johnson, aka Schrodinger’s James Bond, in the lead. If this was our first SSU rodeo we’d probably all be hyped for it. As it is, we’ve been down this road too many times to fool ourselves again.

With limited box office expectations, and probably even worse critical notices, it’s entirely possible Kraven will prove to be Sony’s last hunt in the supervillain spin-off game. If you dare enter the jungle of knock-off Marvel movies once more, witness the not-so-mighty roar of Kraven the Hunter when it meows into movie theaters come Dec. 13.

<![CDATA[

Venom: The Last Dance has officially hit theaters today, and to those of you who shelled out a positive early reaction to this film just days ago, I ask only this: did your fountain pop taste funny as you were preparing to watch this? Because some of you were suggesting this was one of the best comic book movies ever made, and I don’t know how to describe to you how big of a problem that is.

The previous two Venom films, despite being encumbered with countless technical and structural faults, at least had some semblance of an interest in the narrative capability of Venom and Eddie’s relationship. Unfortunately, the last Venom film prior to this one came out in 2021, i.e. before Morbius and Madame Web more thoroughly established Sony’s Spider-Man Universe as the place where creativity goes to not only die, but suffer for eternity.

And for some reason, Venom: The Last Dance completely bought into this newfound, superhero-hating identity, with loud, generic stakes and meaningless detours getting smushed together across its runtime in a bafflingly sad attempt to create some semblance of a movie. And yet, none of it compares to the undiluted degeneracy of the film’s mid-credits scene.

Warning: Spoilers for Venom: The Last Dance to follow

Knull in Venom: The Last Dance
Image via Sony Pictures Releasing

The mid-credits scene is as follows: the camera pans up to the lolling head of Knull — the villain who expositioned us to death in the opening scene — monologuing to nobody in particular that the universe will soon face his wrath, even though his minions failed to seize the codex from Venom and Eddie. So far, whatever; it’s as cinematically incompetent as the rest of the film, but nothing too outrageous.

And then, he finishes talking about how he’s going to destroy the universe before tilting his head up, staring at us, and saying “And you will watch!”

In that single moment, Venom: The Last Dance managed to find the most grotesquely sour intersection that any comic book movie could have waded into; an intersection of the film’s mirthless ittance to being a product, and the gross confidence that we are going to keep drinking their content just because the words “Marvel” are on it.

Indeed, how else are we meant to interpret that mid-credits scene? Venom: The Last Dance, like Morbius and Madame Web before it, never had any interest in being good; in fact, they barely had any interest in being movies. They’re nothing more than quarter-assed, vaguely superhero-coded scenes stitched together for the sake of sending a Marvel product out into the world, if not to sully the name of comic book movies as a whole, then to cynically make a point about how they can continue churning out the sloppiest garbage imaginable and still count on a paycheck by box office’s end.

And so to have Knull — this absolute nothing-burger of a villain — declare so non-diegetically that we audiences will absolutely watch whatever he has in store for this unholy universe that Sony quite blatantly couldn’t care less about, is among the most pulverizingly insulting slaps to the face that the SSU has ever produced. It is the bottom of the bottom of the barrel we’re now dealing with here. Do not see this movie.

Sony execs should probably hang up their web-slingers, as the abysmal Rotten Tomatoes scores of their entries into the Spider-Man universe (which has no Spider-Man in it) have proven so ruthlessly

A new post by the X Culture Crave has compiled the scores received by five of Sony’s dalliances with the Spider-verse, all of which failed to reach the review aggregator’s favorable 60% score and were branded with the much-feared “Rotten” status.

It comes fresh off the release of Venom: The Last Dance, which marks Sony’s most recent foray into the Spider-Man universe. From least to most well-received (spoiler alert, even the highest-scoring movie didn’t do that well), the list begins with the Dakota Johnson-starring vehicle Madame Web, which was released earlier this year and received an 11% score among critics.

This won’t come as a surprise for fans, since it was the poor quality of the film — which follows Johnson as a peripheral friend of Peter Parker’s parents — became the subject of countless memes and an equally chaotic (yet undeniably entertaining) press tour.

The film was so bad, in fact, that some fans believed Madame Web did a U-turn and became something of an iconic, campy delight — in a ‘so bad it’s actually good’ kind of way — but Rotten Tomatoes didn’t agree.

The consensus among critics for Madame Web was rather scathing, describing the movie as “a forgettable superhero adventure” with a “predictable plot and uneven execution.” For those who aren’t fluent, that’s critic-speak for “pure trash.” Placed just a few percentage points above Madame Web on the Rotten Tomatoes scale is a movie whose mere title will send a shiver down your spine, Morbius

https://twitter.com/emilybernay/status/1511131092065132547

Earning just 15% on the critics Tomatometer — which brands Morbius “uninspired” and “nonsensical” — the origin story of one of Spider-Man’s comic book villains was loathed even by some of its stars, so perhaps this score was to be expected. Especially considering it was the screenwriter sibling of Madame Web, as both films were penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (who should be stopped at all costs).

The remaining Sony Spider-Man films in Rotten Tomatoes’ bad books are all part of the same franchise, with Venom, Venom: The Last Dance, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage receiving 30%, 39%, and 57%, respectively. It’s here that the gap between audience and critic scores is most apparent since the first two installments of the Tom Hardy-starring franchise both received 80% or more among fans, who almost universally enjoy the odd couple, symbiote-loving movies.

Critics said Venom was “chaotic [and] noisy,” and that its successor was only for “fans of the original’s odd couple chemistry.” Since it has only just arrived, we’re yet to hear the consensus for The Last Dance (and even its 39% score is subject to change), but perhaps the final Venom movie will be the beacon of hope Sony needs to redefine its vision for future Spider-Man entries.

If not, maybe they should scrap the whole endeavor entirely and just let Tom Holland do his thing, and spare themselves the destiny of ending up like 0% Rotten Tomatoes-getters like SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 and Gotti.

Venom: The Last Dance marks the end of Sony’s best-performing Spider-Man adjacent films. Though not necessarily a high bar to clear, Tom Hardy has more aspirations after the conclusion of the trilogy.

Since Hardy’s debut as disgraced reporter Eddie Brock in 2018’s Venom, the actor has faced off against many villains in the anti-heroic story. Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage was portrayed by Woody Harrelson in his titular film, and fans will finally get to see the first big screen appearance of Marvel villain, Knull. Venom’s biggest adversary still has not been confirmed, however, and Hardy is ready to get these wheels turning. Recently at New York Comic-Con, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor doubled down on his desire to put Spider-Man through his paces.

This comment has not happened in a vacuum. Hardy has often voiced his desire to see Venom and Spider-Man come face to face. But with the complex dynamic between Marvel Studios and Sony, this seems like a pipe dream. Sony has tackled some of the biggest characters in Spider-Man lore, save for the web-slinging hero himself. Even Madame Web, which featured three separate Spider-Women only referred to Peter in tongue-in-cheek shenanigans.

Considering Sony’s track record with Marvel properties, it would be shocking if any interaction of Peter Parker slung into Venom for a cameo. But there is no shame in hoping.

The best Venom and Spider-Man confrontation has not been in a film 62133z

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is of course beloved by MCU fans, but one of the best depictions of the character is in the recent Sony video games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 incorporates many villains that have failed to impress on the big screen as well as teaming up Peter and Miles Morales in a high-stakes story.

In this version of Spider-Man, Harry Osborn gets infected with Venom as a way to stave off a debilitating illness. As Venom is wont to do, it attaches itself to Peter who becomes a monstrous version of himself. Voiced by Candyman icon, Tony Todd, this Venom is a terrifying and powerful force, that Miles has to battle. The game also implements Kraven, a villain played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the alleged imminent film.

Sony’s Kraven film strays as far away from the source material as Madame Web, in a bid to make the characters younger and more attractive. Kraven is a significant character in Spider-Man lore, an unrepentant poacher with no moral com. Like with many of its films, Sony appears to be making Kraven more sympathetic with Johnson’s casting and backstory. In the film, which has undergone constant delays, Kraven rebels against his father’s (Russell Crowe) poaching and for some reason gets Beast Master-like abilities from a lion. This is the similar philosophy that made Cassandra Webb (Dakota Jonson) a young woman instead of her wizened portrayal in the comics.

The Spider-Man games are arguably one of the best adaptations of the comics. While they change some classic aspects, they stays true to the spirit of the source material. Perhaps Hardy’s Venom has the chance to make a mark similar to that of the games, but is unlikely to happen under the Sony umbrella. Under the current multiverse, however, anything is possible.

Don't call it a comeback!]]>
<![CDATA[

After the last couple of years the Sony Spider-Man Universe has had I think it’s fair to say nobody is expecting much from the Kraven the Hunter movie but perhaps we’re being too harsh on the film – is it possible that it just might be good?

Everything we’ve seen thus far has failed to impress, but the film’s opening scene was recently showcased to attendees at the New York Comic-Con and reactions have been surprising to say the least. Fans were treated to a whole eight minutes of gory, violent footage, (the film is R-rated in case you were unaware) and it seems like most who were there to witness it seemed to really like what they saw. The general opinion shared by those in attendance is that this film might not be a rancid pile of nonsense like Madame Web, or Morbius, or Let There Be Carnage, (honestly pretty much every SSU film is trash).

It’s drawn comparisons to John Wick which is high praise, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Others were more tempered with their reactions, predicting it would be a “decent movie based on the intro.” That’s not exactly the highest of praise, but honestly? A decent movie would shine like gold compared to everything else Sony has put out thus far.

Regardless, this is certainly promising news. I’m pretty sure most of the world had already written the SSU off at this point, perhaps it has finally found its flow, it only took 5 years!

Let’s hold our horses for a second 6t7168

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I want this movie to suck, but we shouldn’t be celebrating this as a win just yet. Let’s that this is only the opening eight minutes and of course Sony is going to showcase something that makes the film look enticing. I being excited for Morbius back in 2022 based on the clips I saw – look how that turned out.

Has Sony changed? 2k6m5q

I suppose the biggest question is has the SSU learned from its mistakes? So far I would say no, but then again, Kraven the Hunter has already set itself apart from its predecessors by being the first R-rated movie in Sony’s universe. Perhaps people just got a little excited over all the violence and mayhem that they didn’t notice the film was just as trash as the rest, like a cheap paint job on a broken car, it won’t hide the flaws forever.

Or maybe I’m just being pessimistic and this movie has taken the criticisms levied at the others and made something new and exciting. The footage isn’t available online yet so it’s difficult to come to a solid conclusion, but part of me is worried we’re just going to get another Morbius, this time with blood, guts, and swearing.

<![CDATA[

What is happening with Spider-Man 4? It’s been almost three years since No Way Home became the highest-grossing Multiverse Saga movie to date (suck it, Deadpool & Wolverine), but we have yet to get an official word on what’s next for Tom Holland’s wallcrawler. That said, rumors are spreading that Marvel and Sony are taking the fourquel in an… unexpected direction.

A sinister swoop of rumors have emerged regarding the film, which is currently undergoing a creative rehaul following Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton coming aboard as director. Word has it that Spidey 4 will go even more cosmic and ambitious than the last one, with Robert Downey Jr., Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire all potentially returning alongside Tom Hardy’s Venom (actually multiple symbiotes) and an outer-space setting.

Unsurprisingly, fans have thoughts. Many feel that this would be 100% the wrong direction to go in after No Way Home so perfectly placed Peter Parker to become the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man of yore next time around. “I really hate that everything Spider-man has to be multiversal or a grand event now,” grumbled one Redditor. “This movie is shaping up to be everything I DIDNT want it to be to a tee,” grouched another, one of several who are taking this alleged news as a personal attack: “This is such a headache. Really hope they don’t go the multiverse/Venom route with this one but they seem to have it out for me personally.”

Given the fan reaction, then, Marvel might want to consider if bigger really is better. What a lot of fans want, it seems, is simply for Spidey to hang (and swing) around New York and keep things grounded (or rooftopped, anyway). The irony is that the studios are thinking way too hard about this, as there’s a perfect title sitting in their laps, and it would deliver everything fans are asking for.

Spider-Man 4‘s ultimate title and team-up is right before our eyes, and Marvel needs to notice before it’s too late 611h3p

Spider-Man: There’s No Place Like Home? Spider-Man In Space? Even Spider-Man: King in Black, according to another recent rumor? Nah, thanks, we’re good. Honestly, the best title Marvel could christen Spider-Man 4 with is exceedingly obvious. Hear me out: how about they just call it… Spider-Man Four? Or, perhaps more accurately, Spider-Man/Four.

The USP of each of Tom Holland’s first Spidey trilogy was how they teamed him up with other Marvel icons — Iron Man in Homecoming, Nick Fury (kinda) in Far From Home, and Doctor Strange in No Way Home. It just so happens that Spider-Man 4 is coming out right as the Fantastic Four are entering the fray for the first time. So why not have Peter sling on over to the Baxter Building and meet Reed Richards and company?

Spidey has been friends with the foursome ever since the 1960s — he often teams up with good pal Johnny Storm — and he’s essentially the honorary fifth member of the team (alongside She-Hulk). There’s acres of history to mine from there, which makes a Spidey/FF crossover such a perfect direction for his fourth MCU solo outing. Deadpool & Wolverine has proven that slamming two IPs together in a title works wonders, so the heft of both Spider-Man and Fantastic Four as brands would surely push this past the $1 billion mark at the box office as well.

The only hitch is that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in another universe, as Pascal’s team doesn’t actually hail from the Sacred Timeline. Except maybe that isn’t an issue, as that would hand the film the cosmic/multiversal edge the studios are apparently looking for, given that Peter would need to cross over into another reality in order to meet them. That would also neatly tie into Downey’s Doom, who probably comes from the same world, and Garfield and Maguire could always come with him. Everyone’s a winner! Kevin Feige, I’m begging you, please return my calls.
