It’s not always easy to discern why certain films assimilate into the pulse of a culture, nor is it much fun to argue why they shouldn’t be there. Indeed, whether it’s The Godfather, The Silence of the Lambs, or more timely classics like Home Alone and Elf, some movies are simply here to stay, so we might as well get comfortable with examining them year in and year out.

In the case of the latter, it’s been examined on streaming for quite some time now, and today is no exception. Per FlixPatrol, Elf is currently the third most-viewed film on the United States’ Max film rankings at the time of writing, dancing jolly circles around the likes of a sixth-place The Goonies (which houses the likes of now-household names like Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Ke Huy Quan), and inspirational Christopher Reeve documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (seventh place).

Elf stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human who was raised in the North Pole as an elf, and who one day discovers that he is not, in fact, an elf. This revelation causes him to set off on a journey to New York City in search of his biological father, who he’s never met. The industrial indifference of the Big Apple is, of course, a far cry from the sugarplum optimism endemic to the North Pole, but with Buddy sprinkling his magic everywhere he steps, he just might inject a never-before-seen Christmas spirit into the heart of the city.

For the remaining few out there who have yet to watch Elf for the first time, it may be hard to grasp how this film has cemented itself into the public consciousness the way it has. It’s not structurally sound on any level, there’s not much in the way of a plot, characterization is mostly measured by a willingness to goof off, and the comedic beats ride a largely inconsistent wave that all but minimizes its artistic identity.

And yet, Ferrell is as beloved in this role today as he was back in 2003, so what’s the special sauce of Elf that has prevented it from being lumped together with the likes of Harold and the Purple Crayon (which boasts the same wacky, disted man-child antics of Elf, right down to including Zooey Deschanel in the proceedings)?

Well, Ferrell (together with the film’s script) demonstrates an unwavering commitment to Buddy’s outlook on life, one defined by unfettered joy and love that we so often forsake in hopes of becoming more successful in a cold, hard, numbers-driven rat race. We don’t necessarily laugh at Elf‘s jokes because they’re funny, we laugh because Buddy’s sincerity is just that charming, and we all secretly wish we were capable of living that way.

And really, that collective wish has almost single-handedly defined this millennium. Buddy’s optimism was surely a breath of fresh air for a newly post-9/11 America, and with an abundance of cultural and international tensions dominating the headlines of today, it’s no wonder Buddy’s reckless love remains a welcome sight all these years later.

Look, I get it; it’s easy to write off legacy sequels as complete and utter cash grabs operating at a cinematic deficit for the sake of lining the pockets of executives and egos of fandoms. This emotion, however, could most aptly be characterized as resignation, and that’s not a great approach to any facet of life.

So, when confronted with a film like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — perhaps the definitive legacy sequel of the year thanks to the 36 year gap between it and the original film — we need to at least bring our most sincere eye to the film, if not to spot its ostensible purpose for existence, then to try and understand what the franchise could do better going forward. And now, you don’t even need to buy a movie ticket to do so.

Per FlixPatrol, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has debuted as the top film on Max in the United States at the time of writing, outclassing the long-incumbent Will Ferrell classic Elf (second place) and a sixth place The Goonies, a beloved 80s film that has yet to be hit by the legacy sequel hammer, despite the internet’s best efforts.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sees Winona Ryder reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, who now finds herself navigating adulthood as a mother to her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) and as the host of Ghost House, a television program where she interviews people who claim to have encountered spirits in their homes. The death of Lydia’s father brings the family back to Winter River, where they find themselves drawn into the series of gonzo afterlife shenanigans that Lydia will, unfortunately, need the help of Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) to resolve.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made $451 million against a reported $100 million budget, so it was certainly a case of Mission Accomplished from Warner Bros.’ point of view. As a viewing experience, however, it’s a different story; with an almost pathological adherence to distedness coupled with its overflowing bucket of nostalgic assets, the film is a completely alienating outing for anyone who hasn’t already dedicated part of their identity to Tim Burton.

Except, Burton knows that. Burton knows that this audience won’t care about the film’s creative boons so long as they get to see the things that they like about Beetlejuice; after all, the reason the original film has persisted the way it has had nothing to do with its genuinely inventive themes or storytelling, but because of its fatefully co-opted vibe that’s so-often used by fans to ensure others how strange and unusual they are.

With this in mind, pay attention to how Burton characterizes Lydia, Betelgeuse, and Catherine O’Hara’s Delia. Lydia loses her inner identity following the death of her ex-husband, and her arc is centered around learning to let go of the things she used to decorate her outer identity in order to make up for that. Delia uses the death of her own husband as the fuel for yet another insincere artistic endeavor that leaves her as empty — if not more so — than she was before.

And then Betelgeuse, the eponymous wildcard, is a character who has always, deliberately been written in a way where he’s entertaining without being interesting (i.e. he has no development as a character). Meanwhile, his film of origin, Beetlejuice, is both entertaining and interesting, but no one seems to love it for how interesting it is, instead attaching to how entertaining it is. Oh, Burton, you son of a gun.

Where was the original ‘Goonies’ movie filmed? https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/where-was-the-original-goonies-movie-filmed/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/where-was-the-original-goonies-movie-filmed/#respond Fri, 25 Oct 2024 10:58:14 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1116300 The film's location is just as iconic as its brilliant cast, characters, and story.]]>

It’s not an exaggeration to say that 1985’s The Goonies is one of the most iconic and impactful movies ever made. The dream team of director Richard Donner and writers Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg made an epic adventure comedy that evokes charming childhood memories and a sense of wonder for millions of film fans worldwide.

The Goonies is so brilliant because, besides the geniuses who made it, it has a fantastic cast of charismatic (primarily young) actors playing various memorable characters, a gripping story, and an iconic setting perfect for the zany exploits that occur in it. That tremendous cast includes Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano, John Matuszak, and Mary Ellen Trainor.

The eponymous group of kids is so named because they live in Astoria, Oregon’s fictional “Goon Docks” neighborhood. The movie follows their attempts to save their homes from foreclosure after they find an old treasure map and follow it to unearth the long-lost fortune of the legendary 17th-century pirate One-Eyed Willy (while being pursued by a notorious crime family, the Fratellis, who want to claim the bounty for themselves).

But where was The Goonies filmed?

Where was The Goonies filmed?

Most of The Goonies’ on-location filming occurred in the real Astoria, a port city on the Oregon coast, while some were filmed relatively close by, and others on studio sets.

Specific locations used included the interior and exterior of the old Clatsop County Jail, which was used as Jake Fratelli’s holding place at the beginning of the movie (it has now been converted into the Oregon Film Museum). A real house on the city’s eastern end, 368 38th Street, was used for the Walsh family home (pictured above). The Captain George Flavel House Museum was used as the museum where Mikey’s father worked. Most of the coastal scenes were filmed in Oregon but far from Astoria. The eponymous group cycles to Ecola State Park in the movie, which, in reality, is in Cannon Beach, over 26 miles (42 km) south of Astoria. The climactic scene on the beach was filmed at Goat Rock State Beach in Sonoma County, California.

Some scenes were filmed on specially built sets at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, including all the underground scenes and the scene in which the Goonies discover One-Eyed Willy’s ship (that one was filmed in the studio’s Stage 16, which is one of America’s most vast and prominent sound stages).

Movie fans regularly flock to Astoria to visit some of the iconic locations used in The Goonies. If that’s something you plan on doing, you can check out a visitor’s guide at Movie-Locations.com, which lists all of the above-mentioned locations. There’s also a handy guide at Roadtrippers.com for anyone planning a whole road trip around visiting The Goonies’ filming locations (which sounds like an absolutely awesome thing to do, by the way). Now, where’s that long-awaited sequel, dagnabbit?

If there is one kind of film that can get people’s heads turning, it’s a Stephen King adaptation. If there are two, it’s a Stephen King adaptation we’ve been waiting five years since its announcement to see. And if there are three, it’s a Stephen King adaptation we’ve been waiting five years to see that also happens to be not-that-great, which is, of course, a key ingredient in pandering to the shoddy viewing habits of the average streaming service .

‘Salem’s Lot just happens to be that third kind of film, and its overwhelming ascent to the top of the Max charts has plunged this particular Top 10 arena into a whole new era, complete with the oddest little footnote the streamer could have possibly conjured.

Per FlixPatrol, this day of Oct. 8 has seen ‘Salem’s Lot rocket to the top of the worldwide film rankings on Max, leaving Will Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die (now in second place) firmly in the dust. Other prominent of ‘Salem’s Lot‘s newly-conquered domain include a seventh-place The Batman (whose goal of recruiting more great movies to the Top 10 will have to wait as Halloween gets underway), and a sixth-place Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, a longtime streaming villain whose dearth of creativity is a more terrifying horror story than ‘Salem’s Lot — both diegetically and production-wise — could ever hope to be.

Except ‘Salem’s Lot actually could have been a horror classic. It is, of course, quite literally based on one of the most prominent horror novels of all time, and it’s just as timely a story now as it was back in 1975.

But unfortunately, a weak narrative and the relative absence of human emotion stripped down the first-ever ‘Salem’s Lot film adaptation into Just Another Vampire Story™. The worst part? If there was ever a time to talk about how we desperately need to quit tolerating a culture that won’t put its foot down on enough venomous evils (as the original novel did with impunity), it’s right the hell now.

On the other end of the consequentiality spectrum is Treasure Trackers, a decidedly unceremonious B-movie that, back in the day, probably would have been given the direct-to-video treatment. Instead, it’s landed directly on streaming, and happens to be genially bumbling around the charts in 10th place.

The film follows three middle-schoolers on the hunt for a legendary treasure chest said to be hidden somewhere in their hometown; a hunt that ultimately goes sideways when the treasure turns out to be a spooky curse.

Treasure Trackers cast
Image via Level 33 Entertainment

One look at the poster says everything you need to know; Treasure Trackers’ prime directive is to serve up a safe, pleasant, ankle-deep, preschool-appropriate romp that captures the Halloween spirit without being the least bit scary. Think Goonies, but designed in a way that it could not have possibly been rejected by anything less milquetoast than the Disney Channel or a kindergarten classroom.

It’s honestly genuinely adorable that the first royal decree of the bloodthirsty ‘Salem’s Lot was to ensure its G-rated sidekick received a place in the Max rankings. Indeed, you can’t have shadows without a bit of light.

Adding yet another item to his storied fanboy catalogue — which has recently come to include Baby Reindeer and Jake GyllenhaalStephen King has shared his excitement over another piece of Hollywood memorabilia.

Taking to X on May 28, the Carrie author shared an image of himself proudly holding a Funko Pop figurine of actor and musician, Corey Feldman. King accompanied the image with a caption that can only be read in the cadence and tone of a school-aged superfan.

“I got my Cory Feldman Funko!,” King gushed (though a true fan might’ve spelled his name correctly), “Signed!”.

While it’s difficult to discern (we’re guessing famous people don’t have time for calligraphy), a bit of investigative journalism will tell you that the Goonies star inscribed King’s name, the words “dig it,” and his signature, which was more than enough for King to sport a bashful grin.

Responding to the post, Feldman wrote that he was “glad” King liked the figurine “even [though] there was a typo,” adding that the It author “get[s] a ” because he is one of the greatest writers to ever live.

For those not up to date, the King/Feldman Funko lore is about as voluminous as any number of King’s books, and began in December 2023 when the author proclaimed on Twitter/X that he’s “gotta have a Feldman Funko.”

Replying at the time, Feldman assured King that he would get him the figurine, before referencing the film Stand By Me. Feldman starred in the 1986 film, and it was based on King’s novella, The Body. “U wrote the story 4 the most critically acclaimed film of my childhood career,” Feldman gushed, adding that he’d happily gift him any of his Funko figurines and “make sure it’s shipped.”

It’s the latest in a long list of interactions between Feldman and King, the latter of whom made his diehard fandom of The Goonies known just last month. “Time for The Goonies on SciFi,” King wrote.

Elsewhere, Feldman invited King to the premiere of his documentary (My) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys in 2020. For his part, King himself forms part of the Funko Pop range, with the author having two figurines made in his likeness and released in 2019.

Safe to say that King’s fandom of Feldman is about as fervent as his dislike of Donald Trump, so we probably won’t see any spray tan-stained figurines on his timeline anytime soon.

‘This is weird’: Ke Huy Quan already channeled his ‘Loki’ character a decade before his Hollywood comeback https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/marvel/this-is-weird-ke-huy-quan-already-channeled-his-loki-character-a-decade-before-his-hollywood-comeback/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/marvel/this-is-weird-ke-huy-quan-already-channeled-his-loki-character-a-decade-before-his-hollywood-comeback/#respond Wed, 11 Oct 2023 14:46:18 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1602615 Is Ke Huy Quan time slipping?]]>

The only thing more unpredictable than Tom Hiddleston’s trickster god slipping in and out of time in Loki is the incredible Hollywood comeback of co-star Ke Huy Quan, who plays Ouroboros (O.B.) in the Marvel series. Like the snake eating its own tale of the character’s namesake, the Oscar winner’s career has arguably come full circle with the role since the gadget-obsessed character resembles an adult version of one of his most famous child star roles as Data in The Goonies. However, Quan has already channeled a fully grown Data in an unearthed interview that seems to foreshadow his Loki role in retrospect.

Though you could argue that Quan playing a multiverse guy in the chair type character in both his Academy Award-winning role in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Loki could put him at risk of being typecast, it may surprise you to know that Kevin Feige and company locked down Quan’s MCU part before the release of last year’s Best Picture-winning A24 film. Besides, O.B. arguably has much more in common with Data anyway. In fact, Quan even called O.B. “a grownup Data,” according to Loki producer Kevin Wright.

Quan’s unexpected dress rehearsal

Back in 2009, more than a decade before his Hollywood comeback, Quan was interviewed for a Collectormania Midlands event mostly talking about his Goonies role. In it, he shared a story about uncovering the famous oversized coat that Data would wear in the movie.

“I moved last year. And I was just going through my stuff. And I found this box laying in my garage, right. And I haven’t opened it for maybe like 10 years. And I open it and there was some stuff on top and I took it out and at the very bottom was the coat. And I took it out and it still looked exactly the same 20 years later.”

At this, the interviewer revealed she had a surprise for Quan and pulled out the very same coat in what was apparently a duplicate prop. Holding it, Quan said “This is bizarre” and explained how he had to “put this on every day for five months.” To his surprise, it still fit when he put it on. Check out the clip for yourself, timestamped at the moment the coat gets pulled out.

“This is weird, this is very weird. Well, I feel like I’m Data again,” Quan quipped while donning the olive-colored garment.

What’s even weirder in retrospect is that the jacket actually bears a striking resemblance to Quan’s O.B. outfit as it has a similar green hue, has patches, and is made of a thick-looking fabric. With Quan being a full-grown adult while wearing his Data coat in the interview, complete with glasses, he certainly looks like O.B. in perhaps an earlier part of his career at the Time Variance Authority.

The entire interview is quite splendid, especially when you hear how humble Quan is in regard to stepping out of the limelight. At the time, he was doing more work behind the camera in the States and in Hong Kong. When asked whether he planned a return to acting one day, Quan said, “If the right role comes along, yeah sure, why not.”

Catch Quan on Loki on Disney Plus this Thursday at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.

A while back, Dwayne Johnson was given a makeover by his daughters that immediately positioned him as an unlikely candidate to be cast as Voldemort in the first season of Max’s Harry Potter reboot that nobody seems interested in, but it turns out that was just the beginning.

Seeing a secondary face plastered onto the back of The Rock’s head was bad enough, but a video edit the actor and producer shared on his Instagram is full-blown nightmare fuel. If you’d ever wondered what would happen if you took the highest-paid star in Hollywood, crossed him over with the most fearsome wizard in all of history, sprinkled over Sloth from The Goonies, and then drenched it in self-deprecation, we have questions first and foremost.

Beyond that, the video in question might be exactly what you’re looking for, even if there will undoubtedly be people out there unable to sleep after witnessing Johnson’s additional face barking instructions and giving out hugs like it’s nobody’s business.

Like the man himself says; if you laughed at that, then you need Jesus in your lives. Quite why anybody went out of their way to create the most unsettling cross-pollination of celebrity icon and legendary family film there’s ever likely to be is anybody’s guess, but The Rock is obviously a huge fan of the Frankenstein’s monster that’s been created as a result.

The best idea is not to watch it before bed, otherwise you’re going to be haunted forevermore by the specter of The Rock/Voldemort/Sloth/whatever the hell that is lurking under your bed.

Ke Huy Quan boasts one of Tinsel Town’s most heart-warming comeback stories of all time. The actor rose to fame on the strength of his childhood performances in blockbuster hits like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies but slowly slipped off of Hollywood’s radar, instead appearing in foreign market films and eventually finding work behind the camera as a fight choreographer and assistant director.

That all changed in 2018 when Quan saw the movie Crazy Rich Asians and, believing Hollywood’s discriminatory casting policies had changed, decided to work to make his dreams of acting success a reality. Now, Quan’s Oscar-winning role as Waymond Wang in 2022’s surprise art house hit Everything Everywhere All at Once has brought him back into the spotlight. The film and Quan have amassed critical acclaim and won a slew of awards. Outside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Quan has won dozens of other Best ing Actor awards from Film Critics associations nationwide and even picked up the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a ing Role.

With the now Best Picture-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once and Quan’s career looking brighter than ever before, including most recently having a prominent role in the MCU Disney Plus show Loki season 2, here are 10 of his best performances in movies and TV, ranked.

10. Red Pirate

Quan’s fanny pack action sequence in Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the movie’s most riveting action sequences but Quan has a long history with action films. After his career as a child actor was drawing to a close Quan appeared in the 1997 Taiwanese actioner Red Pirate. He starred as Hong Kong inspector Kwai Chia-Chiang, who travels to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to try and bring down a notorious crime lord.

9. Breathing Fire

Quan’s martial arts movie debut was Breathing Fire, a 1991 remake of the 1977 Hong Kong action movie The Flash Legs, aka Shaolin Deadly Kicks. The film was produced by Tan Tao-liang – a former martial arts movie star who was Quan’s Taekwando mentor. The film nearly featured the late Power Rangers star Jason David Frank as Quan’s adoptive brother but Frank had to refuse the role due to scheduling conflicts.

8. Second Time Around

Quan starred in this 2002 Chinese romantic drama as the protagonist’s best friend. In a strange twist the film — which would feature Quan’s last performance for nearly twenty years — also featured the use of parallel universes (although not nearly the same amount that Everything Everywhere All at Once utilizes).

7. Together We Stand

After earning big-screen success, Quan had his first major television role in the short-lived 1986 sitcom Together We Stand. The show featured Elliott Gould and E.T.’s Dee Wallace as a married couple who adopt two children in addition to their biological son and daughter. Quan starred as Sam – an Asian-American orphan adopted by the pair. Although initial ratings were high, they soon plunged and the show was canceled after only one year on the air.

6. Finding Ohana

While fans have been clamoring for a sequel to The Goonies for some time now, this 2021 Netflix family adventure film is probably as close as they will ever get to having one. Finding ‘Ohana is loosely based on the 1985 hit directed by Christopher Columbus and featuring Quan in one of his early childhood breakout roles. A pair of siblings move to Hawaii and find themselves in the middle of a Goonies-style hunt for pirate treasure. Quan was the only member of the original cast to appear in the movie.

5. Encino Man

Though Quan only plays a small role in this fish-out-of-water story of a stone-age teenager transplanted to ’90s-era California, it did introduce him to star Brendan Fraser. The two formed a friendship that has continued to this day, a fact they are both celebrating in a year where both of their stars have changed trajectory and the two of them are celebrating critical acclaim in a way neither has for years if ever.

4. Loki season 2

Though it’s early in its run, Ke Huy Quan’s appearance as the Time Variance Authority agent Ouroboros in Loki‘s second season is already proving to be a standout performance. That’s an impressive feat when you consider he is sharing scenes with Hollywood heavy-hitters such as Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson. However, with an Oscar now under his belt, it isn’t entirely surprising to see him completely knock it out of the park with his role as a quirky technician for the mysterious agency that exists outside of time. Coming off as both authoritative and yet friendly and eccentric, Quan carves out a unique character in the Marvel pantheon despite it seeming to have a lot of similarities with his Everything Everwhere character on paper.

3. Goonies

Goonies is undoubtedly Quan’s second-biggest role of his childhood and one that is still beloved by Gen-X kids and Millennials alike. His performance as the gadget-loving kid genius and James Bond fanatic Data was the role that cemented his child star career. Quan has stated that he’s even open to revisiting the character although he finds the idea of a sequel unlikely given the death of the movie’s director Richard Donner.

2. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Very few people get to make their movie debut in an Indiana Jones movie, much less one of the most popular sequels of all time. Quan nailed down the role of Short Round when he was only 12 years old and auditioned for his part at his own elementary school. Before winning the part, Quan had no plans to become an actor. “I love Steven Spielberg. I love this man with all my heart,” Quan told Variety. “And after I gave my speech on the stage, I looked over to him, and he gave me a standing ovation. Can you believe it? I could not believe it. Here is the most successful director of all time. Gave me a standing ovation. And he gave me a lot. Gave me my first job. He’s the reason why I fell in love with acting.”

Waymond Wang — the husband of Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn Quan Wang — may be the role Quan was born to play. Though his character at the start of the film is a nebbishy, almost henpecked husband, by the end of the film we get to see Waymond transformed into a multitude of alternate universe versions, not only showing the heart of the character but allowing Quan to demonstrate the extreme acting range that has made him the darling of this year’s awards season. He even got to utilize his impressive skills as a martial artist. It’s safe to say no one will ever see a fanny pack the same way after seeing Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Last night, actor Ke Huy Quan cemented his Hollywood comeback with his Best ing Actor win for Everything Everywhere All at Once. His speech was emotional, and, along the way, he revealed he had the backing of The Goonies.

For those who may not , the 51-year-old starred in the 1985 classic before stepping away from being in front of the camera due to a lack of opportunities for Asian performers. Recent success of films with all-Asian casts like Crazy Rich Asians inspired him to return to acting and he tells Deadline Hollywood in a new piece that pretty much anyone from the past has his back.

“My younger self would not know all the struggles that I went through to be here. He was just having the time of his life being a kid, being on a set, being on a pirate ship, going on a water slide. Right before this night started, Corey Feldman, one of my Goonies brothers, called. I was talking to Kerri Green, and of course tonight Jeff Cohen, who is my lawyer [and played Chunk], is here with me. He was in the audience. I owe all of them so much. Every single one of them is so happy. Sean [Astin] reached out, Josh [Brolin], Martha [Plimpton], and we are always bonded. We are family forever. Goonies never say die.”

Former Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom co-lead Harrison Ford is the same. He has said before Quan’s award he could not be happier for him and it looks like the “Quanissance” is set to continue with a number of interesting projects. In the time ahead, he will be in The Electric State on Netflix and will have roles in Loki and American Born Chinese over on Disney Plus as well. He is very happy and, above all, is grateful to his mother, whom he says is the reason why he has a better life in the United States today. Quan and his eight siblings did not have it easy, as they came from a refugee family after the Vietnam War concluded, and, without his mother’s sacrifices and the willingness to abandon the life she had, he would not have his Oscar now.

Corey Feldman would love to do a ‘Goonies’ sequel https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/corey-feldman-would-love-to-do-a-goonies-sequel/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/corey-feldman-would-love-to-do-a-goonies-sequel/#respond Thu, 02 Feb 2023 20:59:21 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1414156 We'd certainly love for Corey to do a 'Goonies' sequel too, if the minds behind it can ever get the timing right.]]>

Goonies never say die, and when it comes to a sequel to the 1985 smash hit, neither does Corey Feldman. A legend of ’80s Hollywood, Feldman is one of the most beloved actors of his time. With starring roles in movies like Gremlins, Stand by Me, The Lost Boys, and The Goonies — Feldman could do no wrong.

Pile on his more recent projects Corbin Nash and 13 Fanboy, and it’s clear that no one has had a career quite like Corey Feldman. In a recent interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Corey spoke to Drew about his love for The Goonies and a potential sequel.

During the in-depth interview, Corey Feldman talks about his time in show business, struggles from over the years, and of course — the long awaited sequel to The Goonies. Which — according to the actor — has been listed on IMDb for more than 20 years.

“Listen, back when Dick (Richard Donner) was alive, we were all pining for it. In fact Sean (Astin) and I actually wrote a treatment at one point, and we presented it to Dick and Steven (Spielberg’s) Assistant, and Chris (Columbus) — and they loved it, but they said it was too expensive at the time. Which I didn’t understand. I’m like ‘If you’re gonna do a sequel to this movie, it’s got to be expensive.'”

Who knows if those crazy kids from the Goon Docks will ever end up returning to the silver screen for another wild adventure, but much like the Goonies themselves, we won’t be saying die anytime soon.

Golden Globe winner Ke Huy Quan reveals his comeback could include that ‘Goonies’ sequel https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/golden-globe-winner-ke-huy-quan-reveals-his-comeback-could-include-that-goonies-sequel/ https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/golden-globe-winner-ke-huy-quan-reveals-his-comeback-could-include-that-goonies-sequel/#respond Wed, 11 Jan 2023 12:53:41 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=1394812 Goonies never say die!]]>

Ke Huy Quan made his name in a pair of solid gold 1980s classics. In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, he played Indy’s sidekick Short Round, following that up with playing Data in The Goonies one year later. Despite this great start, Quan found it difficult to get roles and decided to switch career focus away from acting and towards being a stunt coordinator and assistant director.

Now he’s made a truly incredible comeback with his first role since 1992 in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The multiversal adventure had a fantastic night at the Golden Globes, scoring Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for Michelle Yeoh (who gave an instantly iconic acceptance speech) and Quan scoring an upset against the likes of Brad Pitt and Eddie Redmayne by scoring the Best Performance by an Actor in a ing Role in Any Motion Picture award.

So, with his career having a belated resurgence, might we finally see the long-awaited Goonies 2? Quan discussed the long development of the movie with Deadline, saying:

“For the last 30 something years we tried to do Goonies 2. I wished it had come to when I was young, I thought I would need it to make a career comeback. We had numerous scripts, but not one script that felt that it could live up to the original,”

He also paid tribute to The Goonies late director Richard Donner, itting that he was a big part of the original’s success:

“Sadly we lost Dick Donner, the captain of our ship. I really don’t know if there will be a Goonies 2, but I’m open to revisiting the character.”

Despite Goonies 2 looking doubtful, there is some light on the horizon for fans. In December 2021, Disney Plus picked up an Our Time, a drama from The Bold Type‘s Sarah Watson about a group of film students trying to make a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies. We haven’t heard any news on that for a while, but at least in some form, the Goonies dream remains alive.

Or, as you’re no doubt thinking right now, “Goonies never say die!”

For collectors of classic movie memorabilia, it doesn’t get much better than this: The house used in the 1985 coming-of-age adventure film, The Goonies, is now on the market, meaning that lovers of the film who have a spare $1.7 million lying around could potentially get their hands on this piece of cinema history.

The Goonies was a story of adventure, overcoming adversity, dealing with prejudice, and buried treasure. At the heart of the story is Sean Astin in his breakout role as Mikey Walsh, a boy desperate to save his family and friends from moving away after developers plan to expand the country club, destroying the Goon Docks area of Astoria, Oregon in the process. Whilst clearing up the attic in order to move he comes across 1632 doubloon and an old treasure map leading to the treasure of famed pirate ‘One-Eyed Willy.’

Of course, the kids go on the adventure and find the treasure, and despite not managing to get their hands on all the gold, they get enough that they can stop the sale of the Goon Docks area homes and stay in their hometown. Well, despite saving the house all that time ago it is actually on the market, albeit this time with the consent of its true owner Sandi Preston.

Potential buyers may consider capitalizing on the interest in the house, making it open to the public who come to visit the now-famous location in their thousands. Jordan Miller, the real estate agent for the house, told The Hollywood Reporter, “We have a few interested parties right now,” adding, “It seems to be everybody’s intention to be able to open up the house a little bit more and have more access.”

Along with its fame from the movie, the 1896 Victorian home comes with other charms, including a sweeping view of the Columbia River flowing into the Pacific Ocean. The house is currently listed on Zillow for a cool $1.7 million and is described as “fully loaded with history, nostalgia and iconic level of fame.”

The town itself celebrates its very own Goonies day on June 7, the release date of the film, which sees thousands of fans descend upon the area. Miller further describes the house as “kind of a fun buy. Whoever buys the house is going to have a relatively steady stream of extremely happy people walking up outside to fulfill their childhood dreams.”
