The end times are nigh on Netflix. ]]>
<![CDATA[

It already feels like we’re living in the apocalypse, which is probably why Netflix seems hellbent on depicting the end times on film. Over the last few years, the streamer has delivered multiple movies based around the end-of-the-world, be it from an impending comet, zombie pandemic or some supernatural force that preys on the senses. 68323l

Some have enlisted casts so starry they warrant their own constellation (Don’t Look Up), while others have gone on to birth massive pop culture moments (Bird Box). Below, we’re sorting through the ten most notable end-of-the-world movies on Netflix, ranked from worst to best. The end times are nigh!

IO 2vi3a

Margaret Qualley stars as a scientist who, despite the earth’s increasing toxicity, remains on the planet to find a solution. While others have jetted off to colonize IO, one of Jupiter’s moons, she stays behind to research an earth-saving miracle and encounters a man just two days away from leaving earth. IO has a great concept that it sometimes fails to execute, but it’s a very fun watch.

The Silence 6r4k6m

Given that it was released around the same period and its plot involved sound-hunting monsters, The Silence couldn’t help but draw immediate comparisons to A Quiet Place. While it’s certainly not as good as the latter film, The Silence earns points for its deeper dive into horror conventions with a cult subplot and eerie sound design. Oh, it also stars Stanley Tucci, which is always a major plus point.

The Midnight Sky 196y3m

The end times stretch all the way to the Arctic in The Midnight Sky, a quieter apocalyptic film starring George Clooney as a researcher finding other hospitable planets. Directed by Clooney himself, the film features breathtaking visuals and a third-act twist that throws a spanner in the works.

White Noise 49ig

When a nearby chemical leak causes an airborne toxic event, Professor Jack Gladney (played by Adam Driver) must evacuate with his family in tow. Directed by Noah Baumbach and starring his wife Greta Gerwig, White Noise offers an absurdist and comedic take on the apocalypse and clear parallels to the COVID-19 pandemic. It might not have had the Oscar-worthiness some had hoped for, but it’s certainly a memorable entry into the genre.

#Alive 95x6t

If urban parkour was a sport riddled by zombies, #Alive would be the training ground. The 2020 South Korean film follows a video game live streamer trapped in his apartment when an undead apocalypse breaks out. Claustrophobic but still packed with gore, horror, and action, #Alive feels like the spiritual cousin of Train To Busan in all the best ways.

Cargo 20656y

It’s rare for a zombie film to have heart, but 2017’s Cargo delivers on all the feels as Martin Lawrence’s character searches for a home amid an undead outbreak. Fans of the genre’s more thrilling aspects will find plenty to love, too, but Cargo is at its core a film about parenthood. Who said zombies can’t be family-friendly?

Bird Box 1z1g6t

Audiences were swept up in Bird Box mania in 2018, when Netflix premiered the Sandra Bullock-starring film to widespread fanfare. Bullock stars as a woman surviving an apocalypse in which a mysterious entity compels people to suicide, battling hysterical fellow survivors and a perilous trip to a safe haven along the way. The film was watched by more than 45 million s and enjoyed the best opening week for a Netflix film in the streamer’s history.

Army of the Dead 4m513z

Following his acclaimed Dawn of the Dead remake in 2004, director Zack Snyder had much to prove upon the release of his fellow zombie movie, Army of the Dead. Thankfully, the apocalyptic movie delivered on much of its promise, with stylish set design, a totally game cast including Dave Bautista AND Yellowjackets’ Ella Purnell, and a fresh take on the genre with a heist twist.

Don’t Look Up 4rl16

Memorable for its A-list cast that includes Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Cate Blanchett, Don’t Look Up is Netflix’s starriest apocalyptic movie. It follows two scientists who discover that an extinction-level comet is headed towards Earth, and their attempt (and failure) to alert the public to the imminent threat. Director Adam McKay has fun with the clear parallels to the climate crisis, and scored an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Leave The World Behind 4e363f

Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke star as a married couple in Leave The World Behind, an apocalyptic thriller chronicling the onset of a mysterious blackout, environmental oddities and a civil war. The film is based on the 2020 novel of the same name, and makes fascinating commentary on society’s penchant for in-fighting when faced with a foreign threat. There’s also plenty of eerie deer symbolism, and a Friends cameo.

George Clooney’s New Movie Set To Become One Of Netflix’s Biggest Hits Ever 12206p https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/movies/george-clooneys-movie-track-netflixs-biggest-hits/ <![CDATA[Scott Campbell]]> Fri, 01 Jan 2021 15:17:14 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[Netflix]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[The Midnight Sky]]> https://wegotthiscovered.play1002.com/?p=980050 <![CDATA[
George Clooney's new movie is on track to become one of the most popular Netflix original movies ever after drawing in tons of viewers.]]>
<![CDATA[

George Clooney has been keeping a relatively low profile over the last few years, having not starred in a movie for close to half a decade before The Midnight Sky was released on Netflix three weeks ago. The existential sci-fi is comfortably the biggest project he’s ever directed with a budget of $100 million, but the reception has been lukewarm to say the least. The literary adaptation currently holds a 52% score on Rotten Tomatoes, coming in for plenty of praise for the visuals and the leading man’s performance, but the slow pace of the narrative and struggles to strike a consistent tone have left others feeling cold. It continues a directorial career that’s been marked by inconsistency, but The Midnight Sky is proving to be a massive hit for the streaming service.

The apocalyptic tale has been rooted at the higher end of the Top 10 most-watched list ever since it arrived, and has managed to nab the #1 spot in 77 countries, one less than Enola Holmes, which went on to become the platform’s sixth most popular original title ever. The Midnight Sky is now projected to draw in 72 million viewers in its first four weeks, which would be good enough to place it above The Kissing Booth 2 to take ninth place on the all-time chart. As well as reaffirming George Clooney‘s drawing power, the success of The Midnight Sky continues to show that Netflix subscribers pay little heed to the critical consensus when it comes to choosing their content, as well as vindicating the company’s decision to spend top dollar in order to secure some of the biggest names in the industry and hand them complete creative freedom to deliver the movie they’ve imagined without any compromise.]]>

With Christmas now behind us, and 2021 fast approaching, it’s a good time to review all the new content that’s been added to Netflix in the last week. Highlights include the period drama Bridgerton, as well as Charlie Brooker’s Death to 2020 special, and the George Clooney-directed The Midnight Sky. What’s been made available, then, to the platform in the last seven days? Well, on the movie side, Brooker’s Death to 2020 adapts his Screenwipe review format for Netflix, with the likes of Hugh Grant, Stranger Things‘ Joe Keery, and Samuel L. Jackson popping up in a fictional take on this year’s events. Given the quality of the recent Black Mirror entries from Brooker, we have high expectations for this new one-off, even if the world’s apparently been too bleak for a fresh batch of episodes. Another big original release, meanwhile, is Robert Rodriguez’s We Can Be Heroes, which follows up his 2005 hit The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. Elsewhere, already doing well since being released by Netflix, The Midnight Sky is garnering praise for Clooney’s direction and its sci-fi plot. We also have well-regarded Korean drama Your Name Engraved Herein and French picture DNA. In addition, the streamer has new material from Ariana Grande and London Hughes, bolstering what’s been a pretty solid run for originals. For series, the biggest title is Bridgerton, the Regency-era show co-produced by Shonda Rhimes, as well as Korean serial Lovestruck in the City, new instalments of Fast & Furious Spy Racers, acclaimed African program Sakho & Mangane, and plenty of kids’ titles to round out the holiday season.

Here, then, is everything that’s come to Netflix recently:

21 New Movies Added This Week After We Collided (2020) AK vs AK (2020) Netflix Original ariana grande: excuse me, i love you (2020) Netflix Original Atlas Shrugged: Part II (2012) Bridezilla (2019) Cemara’s Family (2018) Death to 2020 (2020) Netflix Original DNA (2020) Netflix Original Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019) Isa Pa with Feelings (2019) London Hughes: To Catch a D*ck (2020) Netflix Original Mohamed Hussein (2019) QLIMAX THE SOURCE (2020) Rhys Nicholson Live at the Athenaeum (2020) Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer’s Llamas (2015) The Con Is On (2018) The History of Future Folk (2012) The Magic School Bus Rides Again In the Zone (2020) Netflix Original The Midnight Sky (2020) Netflix Original We Can Be Heroes (2020) Netflix Original Your Name Engraved Herein (2020) Netflix Original 8 New TV Series Added This Week Bridgerton (Season 1) Netflix Original Fast & Furious Spy Racers (Season 3) Netflix Original Lovestruck in the City (Season 1 – New Episodes Weekly) Netflix Original Rhyme Time Town Singalongs (Season 1) Netflix Original Sakho & Mangane (Season 1) Shaun the Sheep (2 Seasons) Timmy Time (Season 1) Toot-Toot Cory Carson (Season 3) Netflix Original

With the streaming giant set to launch even more high-quality exclusives heading into the New Year and beyond, it’s going to as hard as ever to keep up with new output. And although its facing increased competition now, it’s difficult to imagine Netflix losing its crown among subscribers anytime soon.

Indeed, given the amount of content already added to the service this December, it shouldn’t be difficult to find something to watch over the holidays. In of original films, the George Clooney-directed The Midnight Sky provides a timely story of an Arctic scientist trying to a team of astronauts before they return to a worldwide catastrophe. George Clooney is still regarded as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, which is impressive when you consider that he hasn’t appeared in a movie for almost five years. The leading man of the Ocean’s franchise was last seen in a feature film in Jodie Foster’s underrated Money Monster, but he’ll be back on our screens later this year as he’s headlining Netflix’s sci-fi The Midnight Sky. The apocalyptic tale is an adaptation of the novel Good Morning, Midnight, and follows what could be the last man left alive trapped in the Arctic following a cataclysmic event. After finding a child that he takes under his wing, the protagonist also attempts to an astronaut and her crew returning from Jupiter to tell them that there’s no point in coming back to Earth. It sounds pretty out there and existential, with Clooney directing, producing and playing the lead role, backed by a solid ensemble that includes Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler and David Oyelowo. Now, the first official images from The Midnight Sky have been revealed, and you can check them out below.

There’s no denying that George Clooney is an incredibly talented filmmaker on both sides of the camera, having won an Academy Award for Best ing Actor in Syriana and scooped another for producing Argo, as well as picking up an additional three nods for Best Actor and one each for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. However, his track record as a director is marked by inconsistency, and he’s never been able to recapture the quality of his first two efforts Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Good Night, and Good Luck. The complete creative freedom afforded by Netflix could turn out to be a blessing or a curse for The Midnight Sky, then, depending on what kind of George Clooney we end up getting.]]>
