Spawning countless catchphrases that have seeped into the pop culture vocabulary and creating a universe on par with (or even better than) Marvel’s, The Real Housewives is a touchstone of reality television and society writ large.

In celebration of this beloved franchise (can you tell I’m a fan?), we’re sorting through all the staple iterations of The Real Housewives, ranked from worst to best.

Given that it is the most recently-launched iteration, RHOD needs some time to establish itself before it can reach the heights of its peers. The first season was entertaining enough, and heralded a bonafide star in the form of castmate Chanel Ayan, but we need to let the friendships develop before anything truly jaw-dropping can occur.

In its heyday, RHOP certainly would’ve been higher on this list. Seasons one to five are top-tier, and established the ladies of Potomac as somewhat novel given the relative obscurity of their hometown. However, even the most diehard of fans will it that the last few seasons of this once-beloved show have been lacklustre, thanks in large part to an assortment of women who simply refuse to move past their issues (ahem, Gizelle). Bravo’s recent cast shake-up might help this fan favorite franchise rise the ranks once more.

I’ll it that having RHNJ so far down the list is bound to ruffle a few feathers, especially given that this iteration is home perhaps the most iconic moment across the entire franchise (Theresa Guidice’s table-flip). But, like RHOP before it, the ladies of New Jersey are suffering from a stalemate that has slowed the momentum of the show, forcing tired storylines to continue without resolution. We hope the most recent season’s lack of a reunion isn’t the final nail in the coffin. 

6. The Real Housewives of Orange County kt2e

It’s the franchise that started it all, but it’s also the franchise that suffers from a lack of consistency. RHOC has certainly had its golden years (who can forget the Cancer-gate scandal that rocked the reality TV universe?), but it languished during the pandemic, and its rotating door of castmates in recent years (good riddance, Kelly Dodd) has left it feeling untethered. The return of staples like Heather Dubrow and Tamra Judge, however, has made it feel as though things are looking up.

This is again a case of the near-perfect earlier seasons making up for the more recent dull ones. RHOA is undoubtedly the funniest of all Housewives franchises, and is home to quotable moments that are surprisingly applicable in everyday life (“gone with the wind fabulous”), but the departure of Bravo icons like NeNe Leakes, Kenya Moore, and Kandi Burruss has left RHOA struggling to rediscover its footing.

Seasons one to ten of RHONY should be studied and hung in the Louvre, but even that isn’t enough of a tribute to the sheer brilliance of this show from 2008 to 2018. Every single Housewife was perfectly cast, delivered hilarious antics, and kept the drama consistently engaging. It also boasted the franchise’s best backdrop in the Big Apple, and created household names like Bethenney Frankel. 

Unfortunately, the declining quality of this unanimously adored franchise saw Bravo’s biggest fall from grace, resulting in a recent reboot with an entirely new cast. While they have Herman Munster-sized shoes to fill, the new ladies of NYC show lots of promise, so here’s hoping those glory days return soon enough.

RHOM came back from a years-long hiatus firing on all cylinders. Since its return to screens in 2021, the show has not faltered, somehow outdoing itself with consistently captivating seasons. The cast is pitch-perfect, the drama is enticing, and the Miami lifestyle is fabulously enviable. It’s an underrated iteration, but it deserves all the flowers and then some.

Housewives fans should stop and take stock, because we are currently in the midst of RHOSLC’s glory days and we need to savour every minute. Despite entering the Housewives universe somewhat recently, the ladies of Salt Lake City have not yet put a foot wrong. It is undoubtedly the most outlandish franchise — with a cast that feels like a parody or caricature of what it means to be a Housewife — but that’s what makes it so fun. 

Oh, it’s also home to the franchise’s most juicy storylines. Jail time for federal crimes, alleged religious cults, and running troll social media s are all just par for the course in Salt Lake City.

I will concede that RHOB might not be the most jaw-droppingly dramatic Housewives franchise, but something about it is consistently engaging, to the point where each new season maintains, or sometimes supersedes, the quality of its predecessor.

It gets points for having the starriest and richest cast, from child actors to Bond girls and restaurateurs, as well as for boasting the franchise’s best ratings. When someone wants to start the Herculean task of watching Housewives for the first time, you probably suggest RHOB — and for good reason. 

After it was recently announced that The Real Housewives of New Jersey would not have a traditional finale for season 14, fans have been guessing what a change to tradition means for the long-running reality series.

The show, which premiered in 2009, has been faced with an increasingly fraught core cast of friends – extending to estranged family like Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice – making production much more difficult, especially getting all the cast in one room together.

Recent speculation has claimed that the series is getting a makeover, with some new faces taking the places of well-known cast . It’s not the first time The Real Housewives franchise has fired an entire cast, and Andy Cohen is now commenting on what the future of the series will look like.

On his Andy Cohen Live show on SiriusXM, the TV host and Bravo figurehead discussed the latest season of RHONJ with a listener, who complained about a downgrade in quality in more recent episodes. “Have you heard that we’re gonna do big changes to the show?”, Cohen replied.

“We’re gonna reboot [RHONJ]. We’re gonna do something different,” he continued. For most television shows, a reboot implies an entire reset to a new storyline – with an all new cast too. When it came to the specifics of what a RHONJ revamp would look like – and to the extent of how different it would be – Cohen was a little more vague.

“We’re gonna see what we do. We’ll see. I don’t know. Maybe just all fresh faces.”

Melissa Gorga, a main cast member since RHONJ’s third season, seemed enthusiastic about the shake-up. “Listen, I’m excited for what’s to come. I think we are due for some type of change,” Gorga told Page Six.

In October 2023, an investigative piece by Vanity Fair detailed incidents of racism and discrimination that took place on the Real Housewives of New York set between 2020 and 2021. The piece reported that Ramona Singer, an alum of the first thirteen seasons of the show, had used the N-word on set while speaking to Darian Edmondson, a Black producer for the series, as well as using slurs against Catholics and Jewish people.

According to Eboni K. Williams, the first black housewife to feature as a main cast member on RHONY, Singer had also invoked a stereotype about black people not having fathers, resulting in the then-housewife, as well as several others, having to attend a virtual “education session” for diversity and inclusion. Williams also walked off set after what she reported were a series of microaggressions from co-star Luanne de Lesseps, in which she was called “an angry woman”. Her walk-off prompted Singer to retort that this was why they shouldn’t “hire black people”.

When asked about the allegations from Vanity Fair by Page Six, Singer began to spell out the first few letters of N-word to a reporter for the outlet when quoting what she allegedly said, which did nothing to quash the allegations of racism made against her.

The on-set issues over racism were said to have influenced the Bravo network’s decision to drop cast in 2022, before the Vanity Report was published, alongside criticism from viewers over microaggressions that were shown on-screen during the airing of season thirteen. For the fourteenth season of the reality series, the entire cast had been let go in favor of a full-scale reboot.

The RHONY reboot has been pretty successful – although fans may miss the old cast that made the series such a long-running franchise. Newer faces to the series, such as Jenna Lyons and Brynn Whitfield, have continued to captivate viewers despite the change to storylines.

It is confirmed that some very big changes are coming to The Real Housewives of New Jersey – at least, according to Andy Cohen, who said in June that there were no plans to reboot the cast for season 15. However, what a major reboot may actually look like is unclear – and it seems maybe Cohen himself isn’t sure, either.

The series should at least, to some extent, add some fresh faces, which is very much a requirement if the show seeks to create new storylines and spice up the now-15-year-old series format. In a softer reboot, the show may drop some of the less popular cast , but a big announcement seems to imply something much more radical.

However, as shown by Melissa Gorga’s excitement over a series shake-up, as shown above, perhaps some of the cast will keep their jobs after the reboot after all. However, the reality star did it that she doesn’t know what a rebooted series would entail, responding “my guess is as good as yours” when asked by Page Six about the details.

Despite the friend group drama, the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast Danielle Cabral and Teresa Giudice might be ready to become friends again. One Reddit posted that they’d like new Real Housewives cities instead of a new RHONJ and wrote, “Go back to the roots of what makes these shows great” and explained, “a solid cast with real friendships, relationships, love, humor and of course REAL DRAMA within their lives.” Others thought this was a good idea, but other fans thought maybe certain cast could be fired if they’re just not that entertaining to watch anymore.

There isn’t much of a consensus among the Real Housewives of New Jersey fandom, though. Some would love to see a reboot: one viewer posted on Reddit,”I would totally watch a rebooted NJ with a new cast.” But other fans wrote on Reddit that they would be sad to watch a show that didn’t include some favorites, from Dolores Catania and Melissa Gorga to another long-time star, Margaret Josephs.

The main reason why I think The Real Housewives of New Jersey should be rebooted? Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga’s relationship (or lack thereof) truly seems over… and we should just let them be.

I can’t help but hope that if the season 14 cast comes back, Teresa won’t leave the show because like many other fans, I’ve grown attached to her. But… I also have to it that a reboot sounds compelling and fun. And isn’t that the point of a reality franchise like The Real Housewives? Although in the past, jokes about Melissa giving Teresa sprinkle cookies that she promptly threw out were funny, the sisters-in-law are too mean to each other now. Watching RHONJ needs to be a break in our day and a chance to move beyond any daily problems we have, not that sometimes you have such bad family drama that you can’t even be in the same room together.

In fact, I think pretty much every city in Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise could use a reboot. It worked well for The Real Housewives of New York and brought us our new favorite cast member, Jenna Lyons, who is a style icon thanks to her years running J. Crew. The Real Housewives of Orange County and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have lost some of my favorite stars over the years (I miss you, Vicki Gunvalson and Lisa Rinna!) and the shows just aren’t as enjoyable without them. The exceptions to my dream of a full Real Housewives reboot? The Real Housewives of Atlanta is still a fan favorite, and The Real Housewives of Dubai has great gossip.

But I can’t help but think that thanks to all the Netflix reality shows over the years, from my personal favorite Love Is Blind to the (underrated) The Ultimatum to Too Hot to Handle, the Real Housewives franchise has to make some big moves in order to keep us all invested. I’ll be watching to see what happens next in the beloved Real Housewives universe.

Born to Hungarian immigrants and raised in Mahopac, New York, Josephs graduated from New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in fashion design. She then worked as a dress designer at Manhattan’s Garment Center before starting her own business.

Her star continues to rise as her army of fans grows. Known on RHONJ for her no-nonsense nature and witty dialogue, Josephs will undoubtedly continue to be one of the show’s highlights well into her 60s.

If you’ve been a long time fan of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, then you’ll likely BLK Water. The product featured in the show around 2011 but is it still a thing? Or did BLK Brand LLC sink into the murky depths after a certain controversy?

If the Wilkie sisters are to be believed then the drink, Black Water, was first invented by, Jacqueline and Louise Wilkie, back in 2008. According to an article from The Hollywood Reporter, the story goes that the two sisters created the bottled alkaline water after their mother was diagnosed with cancer. The drink is essentially just water mixed with Fulvic acid and a collection of minerals that give it the iconic dark appearance.

They also went on to claim that Black Water provides numerous benefits to one’s health including anti-aging, lowering blood sugar, and helping with gut health; they also claimed that it miraculously cured their mother. Just like the drink the health benefits it actually provides aren’t clear – though it is certainly not curing cancer – a study from Health Digest suggests that although fulvic acid has some health benefits, taking in too much could be toxic.

Anyways, the Wilkie sisters ed forces with Real Housewives stars, Chris Manzo, Albie Manzo, and Chris Laurita to form the company BLK Water LLC in 2010. As a result the product was featured in The Real Housewives of New Jersey and became a household name as people bought into the whole story.

It turns out that story might not be entirely true as the company found itself at the center of a lawsuit back in 2011. The reason why was because another company known as Creative Thinkers alleged that they had invented the formula for Black Water and that the Wilkie sisters had stolen it and claimed it as their own before forming a partnership with the Manzo-Laurita families.

Creative Thinkers had shared the formula with the sisters as they had told the company that they had connections to Starbucks, however, they just ended up running away with the formula. According to an article at the time from Pillsbury Law, “[t]he suit alleges that the Wilkies entered into an agreement with Creative Thinkers to bottle BLACKWATER.” However, instead of working with them “the Wilkies stole the idea and trademark and marketed the product with the Manzo-Laurita family.”

The lawsuit also names of the Manzo-Laurita family as they used their fame to spread the false story about the origin of Black Water. However, the accusation goes deeper, suggesting that the family and the Wilkies conspired to steal the idea after seeing it at a food industry trade show. BLK Water denied the accusations and sought to sue Creative Thinkers for trademark infringement.

Believe it or not, the case is still ongoing after more than ten years. The most recent article covering it comes from The Forge in February 2022 and it doesn’t look like the case has progressed much since 2011. Either way, Black Water is still available and still owned by the Manzo’s and Laurita’s for now.

The Real Housewives series has been a Bravo institution since it first began airing in 2006 and though it has gone through several iterations over the years, the franchise remains our guilty pleasure to this day. If we’re being honest, we do have favorite housewives and so does longtime executive producer Andy Cohen, who finally shared which housewives he likes the most.

In Nov. 2023, Cohen sat down with Alex Cooper on her Call Her Daddy podcast for an interview in front of a live audience. The television personality mostly made headlines for his candor in discussing his intimate life — apparently, he’s a “daddy” in the bedroom so the podcast appearance is apt — but he also got candid about his favorite housewives.

This isn’t the first time someone asked Cohen, who also hosts the show’s reunions, which housewives he likes best; it is, however, the first time he’s answered.

The resident king of Bravo shared his favorite housewives of all time are “the ones [he has] the longest history with.” He could’ve left it there but Cohen chose this moment to finally stop being coy and named “Vicki, Tamra, Teresa, Luann” as his favorite housewives.

Those who’ve kept up with the Real Housewives over the years will recognize these woman as Vicki Gunvalson (Real Housewives of Orange County), Tamra Judge (Real Housewives of Orange County), Teresa Giudice (Real Housewives of New Jersey), and Luann de Lesseps (Real Housewives of New York).

I can’t fault Cohen for having favorites, especially when he’s known these women as long as he has. Though, I must confess I’m a bit disappointed he didn’t include NeNe Leakes or musical icon Erika Jayne on his list.

Let’s be honest here. No one watches Real Housewives of New Jersey (RHONJ) for the socioeconomic and anthropological insights. It’s all about the drama! Fortunately, there was buckets of that on hand during Watch What Happens Live (WWHL), as Luis Ruelas took back a claim that he hired a private investigator to spy on the cast.

During the explosive finale of the show, Ruelas made the claim he hired famous P.I. Bo Dietl, who had “sh*t on about everybody in the room” and “brought me information on each person” in the group, and that it wasn’t just “gossip.”

On WWHL, Ruela’s wife, cast member Teresa Giudice, said the P.I. statement was something he “just said” and that the idea came “out of nowhere.” Ruelas, who was sitting in the audience of the show, agreed.

Ruelas said he was “at the end” of his rope and that the long season wore him out, on top of “you know, trying to get married.” Andy Cohen seemed incredulous, remarking that the statement was an “amazing thing to come up with out of nowhere.”

The famous husband agreed, and said he regretted saying it. Giudice said “he did not do it” and pledged to defend her husband, claiming he wouldn’t “waste his money” and he only said it because he was “frustrated” by “what they were putting him through.”

“Do you know how much that would cost? How many people are on the cast to investigate each person?” Giudice said. “Do you think we’d want to waste our money on that? No. I’d rather him waste his money on me.”

People aren’t really buying the story, however, with many fans calling them disparaging names. “So, Luis is a liar. Thank you for confirming,” one person said on Twitter.

“‘Hired’ being the operative word. Luis said Bo was one of his best friends so either tea for free or Luis totally lied about everything,” someone else said. “They are toxic people steer clear,” another replied. Other important drama involved the couple being shunned by Melissa and Joe Gorga, who reportedly did not attend the wedding.

The drama around that could fill a dictionary-sized novel, but basically the show is on hold until Melissa Gorga and Giudice bury the knives. The show was supposed to start filming in June, but a source told Page Six that “No official decisions on Season 14 have been made as the finale, Teresa and Louie’s wedding special and the reunion episodes have yet to air.”

Say what you will, they know how to stir the tea. The idea that the show “won’t” be coming back will probably only stir up even more interest in it. Funny how that works.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Melissa and Joe Gorga are always making headlines, but their marriage has stayed strong through it all. The two have been married for almost 18 years, and only the first five were enjoyed outside of reality TV.

Appearing on E! News recently, Melissa said the couple is “doing a pretty good job of navigating right now for being on television this long.” The reality star expounded by saying that public opinion and tabloids are always something that they have to deal with but that family is the most important thing in her and Joe’s lives. “At the end of the day, it’s about the five of us,” the Real Housewives of New Jersey star said.

One such example of harmful rumors happened during the most recent season of the Bravo series, where fellow housewives Jennifer Aydin, Teresa Giudice, and Danielle Cabral brought up an old accusation that Melissa had cheated on Joe. The 44-year-old has denied everything and told Andy Cohen she was bringing “receipts” to the Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion, which was filmed on April 20. During filming, Joe reportedly said his niece Gia Giudice called him to tell him to divorce Melissa over the allegations, which Giudice denies.

The Gorgas have three children, Antonia, the eldest, Gino, and Joey. They have recently moved into a new house in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, but Joe is being sued for over $100 thousand by the construction company for failing to “pay the monies owed to the plaintiff for the materials that were previously provided,” The U.S. Sun reported on Wednesday.
