Marvel‘s 2025 slate has only just begun — and can only get better from here after Captain America: Brave New World — but it’s hard not to already start thinking about what’s to come for the MCU in 2026. Seeing as Marvel’s schedule seems to switch around much more these days than it used to, things could still change, but — as of this early stage in the year — it appears we already know the full slate of what’s to come from the MCU in 2026. Can the Russos and co. make something that measures up to the might of Infinity War and Endgame? That is the $3 billion question.

If we’re very, very lucky, 2026 could deliver the best one-two punch of MCU movies we’ve had in years. That’s assuming that Doomsday is everything we want it to be and Spider-Man 4 is a worthy follow-up to No Way Home. Tom Holland and Zendaya are back for this top-secret sequel which shoots in London this summer. Expect something a little different from the Homecoming trilogy with Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm.

Wonder Man actually kicks off this year, but its final episodes will presumably drop across January after it premieres in December 2025. This comedic series follows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood star turned superhero. The show has been dubbed a “love letter to acting” by Marvel’s head of television Brad Winderbaum, who also called it “the best show no one’s ever seen.” All right, color us intrigued.

Anyone who thinks Marvel’s 2025 is off to a bad start after Brave New World, do yourself a favor and binge Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, an innovative yet nostalgic Spidey cartoon in the classic mold. Thankfully, Marvel’s confirmed to be committing to yearly releases of this show for the immediate future. Season 2 is 100% coming in 2026 and a third is expected for 2027.

On a similar note, X-Men ’97 blew Marvel-loving audiences away when it debuted on Disney Plus in spring 2024. After a year’s break, the acclaimed sequel to the 1990s’ X-Men: The Animated Series is back for another run of action-packed, allegorical adventures in 2026. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the ugly behind-the-drama surrounding the show doesn’t impact on its quality.

Daredevil: Born Again was originally ordered for 18 episodes, which were ultimately carved in two, so it’s no surprise that season 2 will follow hot on the first run’s heels in 2026. Unfortunately, Marvel must’ve misplaced an episode somewhere as season 2 is confirmed to consist of eight episodes rather than nine. Filming is already about to begin in NYC, with Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Deborah Ann Woll all definitely returning.

In a welcome surprise twist, Marvel has also recently announced that Born Again season 2 will be accompanied by another Defenders Saga spin-off. Namely, a Special Presentation — you know, like Werewolf by Night and the Guardians holiday special — starring Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. “It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story,” said hype man extraordinaire Winderbaum.

Last but not least, in the wake of Agatha All Along‘s success, the WandaVision-Verse continues with a second spin-off in the form of Vision Quest (provisional title). This time, Paul Bettany is back as White Vision, as he goes on a journey of self-discovery… and probably also a journey of actual discovery, if rumors that he’ll track down his long-lost son, Tommy/Speed, are to be believed. Also watch out for James Spader’s Ultron (!) and *checks notes* that terrorist who kidnapped Tony in Iron Man. Truly, the MCU is coming full circle.

Stan Lee memorably once said that the “greatest thing about Spider-Man is that anyone could be under the costume.” He also stressed that Marvel’s stories “have room for everyone, regardless of their race, gender or color of their skin… The only things we don’t have room for are hatred, intolerance, and bigotry.” This is all to say that Spider-Man is one of the “wokest” of all pop culture heroes, which is perhaps why some comments from Marvel’s latest Spidey star have caused such backlash.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man voice actor Hudson Thames — who is stepping into the shoes of Tom Holland for this MCU-adjacent animated series — managed to singlehandedly change the tide of goodwill towards the new show with one far too candid sentence. In an interview, Thames threatened to flush his reputation down the river when he itted that he once feared the series would be “annoying and woke” due to its diverse cast of characters.

When asked if he was excited to be part of a fresh take on Spider-Man, which paired Peter with the likes of Nico Minoru (an Asian-American out lesbian), Lonnie Lincoln (an African-American teen who deals with everyday racism in the show), and Norman Osborn (here portrayed as Black, voiced by Colman Domingo), Thames had something shocking to say.

“I thought it was awesome. I mean, my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke, and it wasn’t, and I was like, ‘Yes, this is great, it’s so well written,’ like it feels real,” the 30-year-old actor said. “I’m the oldest of five boys, so I feel like I kind of know what’s happening in their lives and in high school, and it felt like it was doing that justice.”

Needless to say, Spider-Man fans haven’t been this furious since Gwen Stacy died. Given that Thames’ concerns over how “woke” his show would clash with virtually everything the wallcrawler has stood for 60 years, the fandom is now treating him with all the vitriol of J. Jonah Jameson on a bad day.

The darkly comic memes are also swinging in. Fans seem to think that this friendly neighborhood Spider-Man wouldn’t necessarily be friendly to the whole neighborhood.

Unfortunately for Thames, there’s now a growing population wishing for Marvel to replace him on future seasons — the series is already renewed through season 3. The top picks are long-term favorite Spidey voice actors Yuri Lowenthal (the Insomniac games) and Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man).

For once, fans are eager to see a Spider-Man actor get what you might call the Andrew Garfield treatment.

Thames’ comments might have done their best to tank the fans’ interest in this series, but one fan had a more fair-minded take on this here controversy, encouraging others to to the creatives who worked hard on this show and who have absolutely nothing to do with Thames running off his mouth.

Showrunner Jeff Trammell, for instance, had a much more positive interpretation of the show’s increased diversity, stressing that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is “flush with representation that accurately portrays the many different cultures in one of the biggest cities on Earth.” Not “annoying and woke,” then, but simply an honest and authentic depiction of both New York and the world of Spider-Man. In the words of Stan Lee, ’nuff said.

Matt Murdock is returning to Hell’s Kitchen, and Marvel fans are officially in heaven. At long last, the much-anticipated Daredevil: Born Again debuts on Disney Plus this March, finally providing pay-off to the dissolution of the Netflix series way back in 2018. And yet lovers of the Defenders Saga’s breakout star don’t even have to wait that short length of time before Charlie Cox’s demonic vigilante is already back on our screens.

One of the many wonderful gifts Spider-Man: No Way Home gave us is that its brief walk-on part for the really good lawyer established Daredevil as a character who could pop up anywhere in the MCU. And, even if it’s dragged its feet with Born Again, at least Marvel has embraced the potential of Matt Murdock’s project-hopping, with Cox cameoing in the likes of She-Hulk and Echo in the years since.

This January sees the avocado-at-law back in action once more, ahead of the revival of his own self-titled show, and fittingly it’ll bring his MCU appearances full circle.

Buckle up, webheads and hornheads, because exactly what you’ve been waiting over three years for is about to happen. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Cox’s Murdock met in No Way Home, but we haven’t actually seen Spidey and DD suit up and fight crime together in the MCU as yet. However, that’s set to change — as long as you’re not a Sacred Timeline purist — in this January’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

This latest featurette for the multiversal series from Marvel Animation gives our best glimpse yet at the many treats the show has in store once it hits streaming before the month’s out. That includes first looks at alternate versions of Doctor Strange, Doctor Octopus, Norman Osborn (as voiced by Colman Domingo), and… wait, was that a symbiote?! Best of all, though, the clip confirms that Cox will be reprising his role for at least an episode. This marks the very first time he’s played the character in animation.

OK, so obviously this isn’t quite the No Way Home reunion we’re waiting on ⏤ at one point, this series was MCU canon, but it ultimately moved into another timeline — and Cox is this time starring opposite Hudson Thames’ Peter Parker variant rather than Holland. Even so it can only be a good thing that we’re getting more Daredevil, especially with the added bonus of a new costume — this time, Matt will don a black and red number, one already teased in an Easter egg glimpsed in the Born Again trailer.

Honestly, Disney Plus seems to be doing its best to bury Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, what with multiple episodes set to drop weekly, but hopefully audiences will check it out as it promises to be the perfect show for those missing Sony’s Spider-Verse films and the ultimate entree for this March’s Daredevil: Born Again. At D23 Brazil, Marvel revealed some exciting details about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the animated series that’s bringing Peter Parker back with a fresh story and a nostalgic twist. The show promises to dive deep into the classic high school and superhero struggles we know and love, adding a new perspective to Peter’s origin.

Unlike Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with its colorful, dimension-jumping adventure, this show takes a more classic approach, bringing us back to Peter Parker’s high school days. Think of it as a throwback to the original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko comic era, with all the youthful energy and everyday challenges that made Spider-Man so relatable in the first place. As Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, explained, this show is “essentially Spider-Man.” Peter is just a broke teenager trying to juggle high school, family, and his secret life as a superhero.

During D23 Brazil, it was confirmed that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set to premiere on Disney Plus on Jan. 29, 2025. A teaser from the series was shown, and hinted at a world that’s both familiar and new. Peter will face iconic villains, get tangled up in high-stakes drama, and try to protect his Aunt May – all while figuring out his double life as Spider-Man. 

Unlike previous animated versions that go for big, sweeping changes, this one sticks closer to a grounded storyline. Winderbaum promises twists and turns in the neighborhood itself, calling the ensemble of characters the true strength of the series. Jeff Trammell’s long-form storytelling will allow us to see these relationships build and shift as the season goes on, raising the stakes and making every victory or defeat hit even harder.

What a treat of a week for Spider-Man fans this is turning out to be! First, we learned that Spider-Man 4 is officially getting somewhere at long last, as it’s finally found a director. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man? Originally titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year, this animated series was initially developed as a Homecoming prequel, explaining Peter’s origins, but along the way it received a rebranding and official confirmation that it takes place in its own timeline. To welcome us into this new world, Marvel is set to release a new tie-in comic book series beginning very soon.

As revealed by Marvel.com, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be a five-issue limited series going on sale Dec. 11. Set prior to the events of the Disney Plus show, the synopsis promises that it will feature “a young Peter Parker, his ing cast, and some of Spidey’s legendary villains. The comic series introduces some of the amazing adventures to come in this highly anticipated animated series that takes place during Peter’s earliest days as Spider-Man.”

Written by Christos Gage with art from Eric Gapstur, the two variant covers for the first issue (by artist Leonardo Romero) have been released — and they also double up as our first official look at the Friendly Neighborhood character design.

Again, this variant isn’t exactly the same as Holland’s — he’ll be voiced in the show by What If…? actor Hudson Thames (water a name that is!). And yet Gage promised to Marvel.com that this is definitely a familiar version of the character for anyone who loves the Homecoming trilogy and the MCU’s regular Peter Parker.

“I’ve had the privilege of writing a lot of Spider-Man’s adventures, both in comics and in the Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never gotten the chance to do is recount his earliest exploits,” Gage said. “And the exciting part about this book is it’s a brand new take on those formative times. While this is definitely Peter Parker, the Spidey we know and love, he’s got a new cast of ing characters – including Nico Minoru, who you may know from Runaways – and some surprising twists!”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s excellent voice cast also includes Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus, Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn, and a certain Charlie Cox as Daredevil. A release date has yet to be supplied, but it’s possible the show could premiere just in time for the comic’s arrival this December.

It says something about just how perfect Charlie Cox was for the role of Matt Murdock that his Daredevil is one of the most popular heroes in the entire MCU, despite hailing from TV and not the movies.

Just look at his brief Spider-Man: No Way Home cameo for proof — the sight of the Hell’s Kitchen lawyer being finally, unequivocally canonized in the world of Marvel Studios left theater audiences whooping as hard as they did during the end of Avengers: Endgame. Since then, of course, Cox has got to return in a recurring role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ahead of his own Disney Plus series.

Yes, now he’s back in black (or red, or yellow, depending on his costume of the week), and he’s not going anywhere. But what are all the MCU projects that Daredevil is confirmed to be swinging by?

It’s been an open secret all along that Echo is very much more of a prelude to Daredevil: Born Again than it is a sequel to Hawkeye, with Vincent D’Onofrio playing a key role as Kingpin. Likewise, the trailer attempted to play it coy, but we all caught that glimpse of Daredevil in a mid-fight scene. And fans will be pleased to see that he’s ditched his divisive golden She-Hulk costume in favor of the classic red one. No word yet on how many episodes of the five-part show he could appear in, but hopefully it’s at least a couple.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set to be less directly linked to the MCU than when the animated series was first announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year, but assuming the plan remains the same, then we know it’ll bring back Charlie Cox as Daredevil. Concept art for the series revealed at SDCC 2022 confirmed that he’ll be wearing another all-new suit for the series, this time one that’s all black with red detailing. Considering even Tom Holland isn’t in this one, Cox reprising his role is a bit of a coup.

This is the big one, guys. Daredevil: Born Again is the 18-episode continuation of the Hornhead’s story that we’ve been waiting to see since Netflix canceled the OG series in 2018. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as smoothly as we’d hoped. After Marvel decided they didn’t like what they were seeing, production was halted on the show in fall 2023 as the original showrunners and directors were removed from the project and Loki season 2’s Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson were brought aboard to retool it. D’Onofrio, who’ll once again feature as Fisk, assures us it’s all for the best, however, saying, “I’d be worried if we were settling for less.”

That’s it for those projects 100% confirmed to include the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, but here’s one more that’s been rumored. According to unconfirmed intel, Marvel is indeed looking to bring Cox back in a bigger way for Spider-Man 4, given the mammoth success of his No Way Home cameo. Don’t expect him to be Peter Parker’s new superhero mentor, though, as the other half of this curious rumor claims that this job will fall to none other than Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Throw Deadpool in there and you could have all the red-suited Marvel heroes in a gang together. Venmo me the royalties, Kevin Feige.

Spider-Man is coming back to the MCU, much earlier than we were expecting! But, wait, hold your (Spider-)horses, as there are probably some things you should know first before you start counting down the days to Spider-Man 4.

While Sony and Marvel have yet to announce another Spidey flick, the House of Ideas has surprised us all with the news that the MCU’s first ever TV show based around the webslinger is on its way in 2024. And it goes by the name of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Although we haven’t heard this title before, the project itself is one you should be familiar with, as it used to be called Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

That show earned a fair bit of buzz when it was first announced in fall 2021, as it was pitched as a Captain America: Civil War prequel revealing the secret origins of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Unfortunately, its creative development has changed since then and now the series is believed to take place in an alternate reality. What’s more, Holland won’t reprise his role. Voice actor Hudson Thames (who already plays Peter in What If…?) will take up the part.

So when news of the title update and its impending release hit the — forgive me — web, most reactions weren’t necessarily one of excitement but puzzlement.

So, to answer everyone’s question, Your Friendly Neighborhood… You-Know is part of the MCU, in of being part of its multiverse. It’s just that it’s not part of the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. We know because characters who definitely aren’t part of Peter’s life on Earth-616 at this point in time, like Norman and Harry Osborn and Doctor Octopus (played by Hannibal’‘s Hugh Dancy, FYI), will feature in the show.

And we thought Marvel’s 2024 was going to be a barren desert. Although we’ve still got just the one movie to come in the form of Deadpool 3, it turns out there are two more MCU Disney Plus series on their way across this calendar year than we were expecting.

At a press event to mark the premiere of What If…? season 2, Marvel confirmed that two further animated series would be arriving in 2024. What is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and what happened to Spider-Man: Freshman Year? 3rt2a

Simply put, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is Spider-Man: Freshman Year. Out of all the Marvel Studios projects announced as part of Phases Four and Five, the formerly titled Freshman Year was the one that was sliding under the radar the most. As its old name gives away, the show was originally pitched as the official origins story for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on Earth-616, exploring how he got bitten by that pesky radioactive spider.

Somewhere along the way, though, Marvel walked back on this premise and the series is now set in an alternate continuity from the Sacred Timeline — either to better tie it into the Multiverse Saga or to give the creative team more freedom, or perhaps a combination of the two, we don’t know. In that regard, then, the title switch makes more sense, as it doesn’t imply that it is 100% MCU canon like the Freshman Year name, which sounded like a prequel.

It could also be a branding issue, as Freshman Year‘s second season — which is already in the works — was originally going to be called Sophomore Year. Now both seasons can release under the same title. There are lots of pluses to the new name, then, although Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man does sound a little like those cutesy cartoons Marvel makes for Disney Junior.

But have no fear, this will be a full-blooded Spidey show. Featuring Hudson Thames reprising his role as Peter Parker (who stood in for Tom Holland in What If…?), the series will bring in various other iconic characters like the Osborns, Doctor Octopus, Nico Minoru from Runaways, and even Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. Watch out, here comes Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — to Disney Plus, sometime in 2024.
