Michael Lannan and Andrew Haigh took viewers on a journey through a San Francisco rarely seen onscreen in their gritty, real-life series dropped this past Sunday. However, due to low ratings, the cable network has since decided to cancel the series.
In order to wrap up the show and gift it the send-off it rightly deserves, HBO has announced plans for a one-off finale episode. This will conclude all of the storylines left dangling at the end of season 2.
Here’s HBO’s official statement:
“After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special. We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans.”
As fans of the show are well aware, Looking sparked much critical discussion but failed to attract the sort of viewership required for renewal. HBO’s decision to axe the series is a sad but understandable one. Thankfully, for the leading trio played by Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett, their individual stories will now be issued a proper goodbye. We can but hope that Lauren Weedman, Raúl Castillo and Russell Tovey – all of whom co-starred – will show their faces in the Looking finale. Especially if Weedman is going to lead that Chicken Window spinoff….
