‘One Piece’ trailer teases Netflix might be about to break a notorious curse

Let's set sail, Straw Hats!

The One Piece trailer is finally here, as revealed via Saturday’s TUDUM event from Sao Paulo, Brazil. And – it actually looks great. With any luck, Netflix might finally be about to break its curse of making bad anime adaptations (see Death Note and Cowboy Bepop).

The original story is as follows.

The Straw Hats will soon officially be back to make waves in the live-action scene as Netflix finally drops the long-awaited trailer for One Piece, the epic adaptation of the record-breaking manga sensation, which is expected this weekend as part of the TUDUM event.

After years of anticipation, the One Piece live-action trailer will make its grand entrance at long last. Taking us back to the East Blue saga, fans are hoping the series introduces a young Luffy gathering his future crewmates on a journey that will be faithful to the beloved story. With eight epic episodes and custom-built ships, the One Piece live-action is finally getting ready to set sail in 2023, with Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji.

Albeit received withleft us skeptical, One Piece could be the groundbreaking show that redefines the genre.

Led by the talented Iñaki Godoy as the rubber man Monkey D. Luffy, the remaining Straw Hats come to life with Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. While these names might not ring a bell, as a die-hard One Piece fan, the sight of new faces embodying these iconic and complex characters gives me a glimmer of hope that this live-action venture could actually pull it off.

On that note, let’s get ready to set sail with One Piece on Netflix in 2023.
